    DayZ is peaceful

I first started with the mod for over 2 years ago and then,I started playing the standalone since over a year back. It is hard to compare the both versions since the Mod has vehicles and lots of other stuffs that are still missing in the standalone version but the standalone version will have all that stuff and even more pretty soon (like hunting for example). Wether it is worth paying for the standalone version while it is still in alpha is a question I always let everyone decide for themselfs. But if you are asking me personally then I would say yes, it is worth it.
  3. Wow, and here I was thinking that I was the only one who automatically plays this song in my head each time I get chased by Zombies in DayZ :P Its my dark secret until now...

    do tents still dissapear?

I placed a tent deep inside a forest and then it simply dissapeared from one day to the other. I admit that I have no proof of wether it was stolen or not, but I find it hard to beleive that someone found it that quickly because the location it was in is like 98% empty of other players. I dont really know if the persistence is still active or not after the latest 0.55 hotfix/rollback so I have decided to not use the tents until the persistence and the loot economy stuff are working properly.
  5. Nah, I think you should be able to outrun the zeds but with a stamina system in place you might instead end up facing a zombie or two but not having enough energy left to be able to outrun them. I also think that it should be possible to run behind a corner and hide from Zombies who are chasing you. As it is now you must have a certain distance between you and the zombies in order to get rid of them, or they will find you no matter what where you are hiding, just as if they are equiped with an X-ray sight or something. I think this will add a more dynamic mechanics to how you will be interacting with the zombies under various circumstances.
  6. However it is sooo fun to gather a hoard of Zeds and trap them inside a barn and then stay and watch when a newspawn comes by and opens the doors :P Then I usually start playing Benny Hill theme song on a loud volume through voice chat for him to hear while running away!
  7. They always rip my pants off (litterarilly ruin them) if I am only jogging away from them. They never miss my butt :/

    DayZ is peaceful

You are just like me until I started playing DayZ. I used to play console games like GTA IV & V, Battlefield, etc and DayZ is 100% different from all the console games I have played so far. DayZ IS brutal, harsh and VERY unforgiving (just like any regular game during the 80´s :P) I am too, however, tired of the mentality of shoot first and ask questions later. But lets also see it from the other side as well.... In a world where you can not trust anyone (not even yourself), then you will only end up in a world where you can only trust the dead ppl. A dead person will never argue with you wheter to give or not to give you his best gear available, he will never backstab you in the back nor complain about hunger or silly things like that. He will actually quickly become your best friend for the moment (even though he doesn't say much)! But from my own experience, I think DayZ is much more fun to play while co-operating with other players and I also find it more giving to try and interact with others first instead of only shoot them on first sight. Duche-bags WILL however be robbed and force fed with worms but they will always have a chance to run off, handcuffed and with a strange taste in their mouth... Let me know if you want to tag along! http://steamcommunity.com/id/MentalBurner

This is sounding like an upcoming drug deal. Be aware of the of the SWAT-team/bandits lurking around in here before you decide a location.

I know bro! But never forget, that whatever the bandits can do to us so called "luck-seekers", we can do even worse back to them once we have found our luck. I have currently found an MP-133 which is a true killer in close quarter combats inside Elektro. Hoohah!!
  15. This post is not about me complaining about the latest update (0.55) in itself, it is more of a question of "why a game which is striving for realism is getting away from realism"? I know it is in alpha stage still and I also like the thinking behind the 0.55 update! I like that it is harder to find loot in the cities, I like the idea about that every step you take also matters in the game, it is ALL about surviving with a limited amount of resources at your disposal and once I am lucky to find a can of food I have noticed that I smile every time! But lets also be honest here... Dayz has also become an apple tree picking simulator 2015(!) at the same time it turned into a non logic puzzle and bellow I will point out why: 1. When you spawn at the coast you have two options: - Head inland and try your luck, because there will be a 97% chance you will not find any cans of food anyway near the coast and you will only have like 30 minutes to find a source of food until you die of starvation (!?) . - Stay near the coast at the beginning and search for an apple tree in a town/city, before you head inland. This will make sure you get rid of the hunger status and lets you endure the travel into the next town/city without dying of starvation on your journey to the next town, but you have to spend like 30+ minutes in order to collect enough and you most probably get cold/sick during the time. (Note that this process will be repeated within each town/city you get into until you find some tools + seeds, + water source etc in order to plant vegetables or finding cans of food...) 2. Once you have been able to staying alive, making your way inland, collecting some tools, guns, etc and are ready to go for real... Then you are only going to be faced with unreal problems like: - Creating a fireplace = no problem, except that it can only be lightened with either a matchbox (which is almost impossible to find) or a flare (which are rare too). What ever happened to the old school stick-to-stick method with the cost of energy or even a primitive form of firestarter, flint stone, fire-steel, 9V battery shortcut, or using a magnifying glass on a sunny day? ( I have tried them all in real life with success) - Once an animal has been killed and you have managed to collect some meat from it + guts + managed to get a fireplace up and running, then you will only find out that you need a cooking pot or frying pan in order to cook it!?( I have searched for those for 3 days now) Why not only put the meat on a stick and hold it over the fire until it is ready to eat? The cooking mechanics needs to get better balanced and Dayz should also follow the rule: "You can survive weeks without food, but only a few days without water", which should be "tranZlated" into "you can survive DayZ without food but only hours without water"... Right now it is the opposite, since it is extremely easy to find water but you usually end up starving to death once every hour because of the the lack of proper gears in order to cook your food, unless you find yourself an apple tree, you tree hugers ^^

I am also still waiting for the complementary accessory to the handcuffs, namely the leash! It would be sooooo cool to be able to stroll around with one of those Elektro-bandits, handcuffed and in a leash, along the coast and randomly force feed him with.... PUMKINS! Or maybe tie him to a tree while you go into the supermarket and "shopping", while all the drunkies (zombies) nearby walks up and asks "killer" questions to him.

Nametags + Reputation System Proof of concept

I agree with you. The idea is a good thought but I don't think it is well suited for a game such as DayZ and once the loot will be harder to find, the danger of sickness etc gets more of a threat, then I also beleive that players will be more likely to co-operate instead of only killing each other. That will give more room for player interactions which I think is a better way of doing it instead of reading info from dead ppl.
  18. The question is IF the persistence is still active even though the Devs reverted the loot system back to the old one? I have not figured that out yet.
  19. Wuut!! Are you telling me that the aggro-man Zombie who wanders around here in the park during the days in my hometown is ONLY a drunk person and not a real Zombie!? Damn! I have been playing this "real life" simulator for too long...
  20. I knew it was you Chewie! :P
  21. The balance will get better the more the devs progress to the 1.0 release, for sure. They reverted back to the old system one week ago and I finally found a COOKING POT! I am actually missing the harsh reality that the 0.55 update originally trowed us into, at the same time I still know that the central economy stuff needs to get better balanced in order to become what it was originally intended to be.
  22. I knew it was you Chewie! :)
  23. Hmm, never thought about the oven thing. I will try it out for sure, since there are no cooking pots or frying pans ANYWHERE. That is the ONLY thing missing now  EDIT: Nope, cooking pot is still required, even for the oven.
  24. Come on! How do you think humans cooked their food from the very beginning after the humans mastered the art of making fire? I bet they first put it on a stick and held it over the fire in order to not burn their fingers while the meat was cooking :). I'm not worried that the game would be too easy only because you can cook meat on a stick. The hard part should be to 1. Kill a wild animal 2. Making a fire The hard part should not be to cook it while the above two points has been fulfilled.
  25. I where looking in a lot of houses along the coast (while I was a newspawn) and nothing! I made it inland and I am geared up again after finding some loot + tent, in outhouses especially, and I have hunted some wild animals too. I have learned now how to survive in 0.55. But still, I have found maybe 5 cans in total after 12 hours with this character. No problem since I live of the land instead and once you reach this stage the game gets much more fun then it was before. P.S. Chewie, is that you?!
