Play the experimental and follow twitter accounts. That's basically the most up-to-date information you can get for an alpha.

We're lucky they give us a status report more than once a month, and they are obviously pretty busy working on a lot of things for the big .56/.57 push to stable. Patience is rewarded.

A possible best protective character loadout?

Best protective against what...? -
What did everyone think of the Gamez today? The addition of the truck right at the end was awesome. Not sure why Anthony was permitted to rejoin, but really glad he did because that rambo move was hilarious. Love that Summit1G and Dimitri teamed up. Was a bit disappointed with their lack of knowledge of the map, and the fact that Summit didn't even have the game installed right up until the Gamez started. Starvation and dehydration seemed like a lot bigger of a problem than in SGZ V. Really added a lot to the Gamez this time. The accelerated time was pretty cool. I didn't expect for the survivors to be playing during the night, something that seemed impromptu as many of the streamers didn't know about this feature being in this Gamez. It looked like the old crosshair was back, not sure why they would decide to do that. I hope that they work on getting more reliable servers. Seems like some unnecessary deaths occurred due to lag, desync, and servers failing. Also hope that they work on the broadcasting. The only two broadcasters always seemed to be focusing on the same area, while missing some pretty important events in game. You'd think they could get a few more eyes on the battlefield so that all the action is covered. Maybe showing highlights and replays during the broadcast if anything was missed. I doubt it would be hard to treat it more like a live sporting event so that nothing was missed. At least everyone playing usually streams the Gamez live, so having multiple streams up until they nail down broadcasting was a must. Can't wait to watch the highlights and catch up on anything that I missed. I hope they keep doing the Gamez on a regular basis, as it adds more much needed visibility to this great survival game.

I too noticed lots of zeds in exp, but they are a lot easier to kill and avoid again. You can punch them out without being hit if you understand how they move now. Got a crawler too from hitting this chick with a pick axe. Couldn't stop laughing. Can't wait for it to hit stable.

I myself like a good BLT for lunch, maybe a tuna melt. Almost always go for the sandwich; classic lunch choice.

Honestly, I've been caught off guard by zombies way more often than by other players. Generally, if you see a person or they see you, there is still some distance between you and the other person and you have a pretty good chance of taking cover or reacting otherwise to the threat. With zombies, however, they always seem to pop up right behind me the instant I think that I've cleared/outrun the 100 that I've already encountered. That 101st zombie is always the one to ruin everything and break my limbs. Let's just say that my character isn't the only one changing his pants after those interactions. And fortunately (maybe unfortunately for you) the zombies are only going to get harder (less buggy, maybe, but for sure harder to avoid), and the value of your character's life higher. I think this is what makes the game worth coming back to play again and again.

The fact that my heart rate goes up and I start to panic every time things like this happen makes me realize how truly great this game really is.

What is this? An IDE for ants? EDIT: It needs to be at least three times bigger.

What exactly is the weekly server maintenance? Does it give you a chance to add small hotfixes between larger patches, or is it just for the servers themselves to full reset? Genuinely curious.

can someone walk me through on how to plant a landmine?
tux (DayZ) replied to anarky321's topic in General Discussion
Heard something about them detonating while standing and activating. Try crouching or going prone before activating (from a safe distance). I've seen plenty of mines since I heard this tip, but I'm too attached to my gear to try it out. :D Unrelated Fun fact: You can commit suicide with a pen (F11). -
Survivor Gamez VI Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
tux (DayZ) replied to tux (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I assume that they have other admins flying around watching players. Why not leave the commentary to the commentators and just have them watch a group of other admins flying around, switching between them when they report action. Basically more cameras (thinking like a real sports broadcast). -
Survivor Gamez VI Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
tux (DayZ) replied to tux (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Honestly, what's the harm in having these type of events at this stage in development? The event is highly community driven, and worked on by volunteers in their free timeThe players would probably be streaming, playing the same (broken) game, in a less entertaining fashionSGZ gives a lot more visibility to the game during the streams. Sure, there are severe problems and bugs that occur often during the gamez, but wouldn't you rather people be drawn to the game and expect these horrible bugs, rather than stumbling across the game in steam, where they ignore all of the alpha warnings, then complain about how broken everything is?I understand that a lot of people disliked this specific SGZ, and I'm sure that more feel that the game should be refined before doing these types of competitions. However, I know that some people do enjoy watching these events, no matter the circumstances; I know that I strive to become a more competitive player in order to someday play in this type of event (no matter how unrealistic that may be). -
Survivor Gamez VI Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
tux (DayZ) replied to tux (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's good to see Hicks and the other SGZ staff looking at the problems today to help make the gamez smoother in the future (as it should be). I hope that all of the negative feedback (especially on reddit, though I've been seeing a lot of people trashing the gamez here as well) doesn't give the staff the impression that we aren't very appreciative of these events. I have no doubt that future gamez will be a lot better; after reading that forum post, it looks like their solutions should do the trick. -
Survivor Gamez VI Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
tux (DayZ) replied to tux (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't understand why it's not 100% qualifiers. With a better approach to streaming, maybe more work on the custom interface that BI setup for the Gamez, and a few more people helping make broadcasting smoother, there wouldn't be any difference in my opinion. Except for maybe some of the goofy shit that the streamers do, which arguably doesn't contribute to much in the quality of the Gamez. -

Yeah he wasn't getting back up... Although I was really happy that he decided to get in the truck at the end. Plus I heard that he said that he was going to give his prizes to Dimitri because of what happened. -
Survivor Gamez VI Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
tux (DayZ) replied to tux (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Speaking of zombies, I didn't see a single one during these Gamez, and I don't recall seeing any from the last one. I wonder if they just took them out because they are pretty buggy right now. Yeah I'm hoping BI keeps working on the mechanics for these types of games (i.e. custom loot drops, physical barriers when players leave the play field, better spectating mechanics). It's also really good to see Hicks supporting the Gamez so much, and taking into account of problems so that hopefully the SGZ in the future are run more smoothly. I agree that despite all of the problems, it was still a very entertaining battle. -
Survivor Gamez VI Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
tux (DayZ) replied to tux (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah as much as I enjoy watching Summit1G play, the fact that he clearly hadn't played the game in months combined with his lack of South West map knowledge made me pretty sad. Hoping that the SGZ team starts picking players who have a better chance of winning rather than people with a big streamer followership. I wouldn't care if a player was a terrible streamer if they actually knew how to play. That combined with correct server maintenance and proper broadcasting would make this event a lot easier and more fun to watch. -
Survivor Gamez VI Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
tux (DayZ) replied to tux (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Agreed, the desync throughout almost the entire game (until they switched servers finally) was ridiculous. Not sure why they are having so much trouble keeping a server going steadily throughout the games. Sounded like people are trying to crash the servers, thought I have no idea why someone would want to do that. -
Wish this would fit in my forum signature...

Crabs and STDs confirmed in .56?
-
I agree. Nobody knows how everything is supposed to be working through each patch better than the devs. Being able to communicate and ask them questions is valuable to us and helps us be better alpha testers, as we can relay whether things are working as desired. I just hope that all this opposition to recent changes doesn't scare the devs away. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we love to hear from you guys.
-
I agree that a hostile environment shouldn't be encouraged. However, I'm sick and tired of seeing people saying the devs are lazy or not doing their job. Sure, there has to be room for any sort of feedback or suggestions, even if they don't follow the direction that the game is planned to be heading, but a lot of these posts aren't helping anyone, and are just alienating the dev team. For example, a while back, reddit (/r/dayz) used to have a lot of devs constantly replying to posts about the game. Though I rarely participated in discussions there, I always found it awesome that you guys took time out of your schedule to help us understand things that were unclear to us. However, as any sane human being would do, once the negative feedback directly pointed at the dev team became too much, you guys stopped posting anything to that subreddit and I quickly lost interest in reading anything. I recently found these forums, and even more recently started posting, because I'm becoming more active in playing the game and I love the idea of being a part of the development process. I'm just afraid that I'm starting to see the same type of stuff happening here that happened on reddit a while back. I know that you appreciate the support from the minority (or at least the less outspoken) of the players, but no way is that satisfying enough for you to put up with loads and loads of people telling you that you're not doing your job correctly. Hopefully you and the other devs stick with it and continue to post here and answer questions, because knowing how the game is intended to work (or not work) is extremely valuable, and I think it helps make us better alpha testers, which in turn can only help the development process as a whole.

I believe that private servers still have the option to opt-out of persistence for the time being (at least until the end of this week). Is the server on which you are playing on a private or public hive?
-
I don't think they have 99% accuracy in foreseeing what will work and what won't. For example, with the .55 central loot economy implementation, the small sample of experimental servers and players didn't give insight as to what would go wrong when pushed to stable, hence the change back to the older loot system. Had the devs supplied any information on the loot system working (which they did, all but an official changelog) then they would've been wrong about it working properly. And they know everything has a chance of breaking, that's just the way things go when you're moving any piece of software from a small testing/development platform to a more stable one. They do tell you what's going on... Every single server I've been in, there's a BattleEye notification that weekly maintenance occurs on Wednesdays. I'm not that active in the forums or on reading their twitter announcements, and honestly I've never tried to do anything relying on persistence (as I know it can be broken and I'd lose everything that I had spent time working to stockpile), but even I knew that not only does persistence reset every Wednesday, but that this being alpha, you always have the chance of losing your entire fortune and having to start over again.
