I've been playing the game since before .62 and I haven't seen any evidence of cheating either on any server that I've been on. And I play mostly on official. That's not to say there aren't any cheaters. I've seen YouTube vids showing them. But for something that's supposed to be so prevalent in the game, I have yet to see an incident where I can say with absolute honesty that cheating has occurred. Now, I've been shot at distances, shot through buildings, one shotted with remarkable accuracy even after apparently dumping mags into the other player, I've had my loot found no matter what I've done with it even on low traffic areas on low pop servers. But none of that is PROOF of cheating. There could have been cheating, but as a dead player or someone who logs in to find their gear gone I can't verify that. So you just move on. I'd wager that a LOT of the claims of cheating are just hot air by people that got whacked in a way they didn't understand. So the first thing to do is claim cheating out of frustration. I've heard people suggest that one way to stop that would be to have the camera zoom to the player that killed you. But the problem there is that you can just respawn and make a beeline to where that player was to get revenge. This would be especially easy to do on small deathmatch maps like Esseker. Although that would put a stop to these sniper dickheads camping in spots and just shooting players all day. At the end of the day there'll probably be no real way to completely eliminate cheating out of any online game, especially DayZ. There will always be exploits that people can employ to get an edge. The bigger question is what do they get out of it themselves? There's only a limited amount of "enjoyment" that can come from cheating in a game like this.

how does someone find my well hidden tent whithin 24 hours?
Tonyeh replied to Buddagee's topic in General Discussion
Nothing is "hidden". The maps, yes even Chernarus, are too small. Somebody will eventually find your shit, even without looking. I've stumbled on tents and boxes loads of times and I never even bothered trying to find other player's gear. I've had buried crates in the middle of nowhere found and dug up. I just don't really bother stashing anything these days. If I want to keep a particular item. I'll build a crate and leave it in a remote area under a tree...and even then, there's a rick that it'll eventually be found. -
I think this is the reason for a lot of the dumbing down of DayZ. And gaming in general.
-
Nope. Not going that way.
-
^ The flipside to that is that two players are also easier to spot...and hear.

Psychic Wolves miles away that Aggro me & ignore the infected.
Tonyeh replied to Raphael_RJ2's topic in General Discussion
It's supposed to simulating scent I reckon. IRL a wolf can pick up the scent of prey from a couple of miles away and they'll make a straight line toward it. But you can get away from them. Once you hear that first arrooo, run in the opposite direction. -
No, They're infected people, that's why they can die with shots to the body. Although they do have some abilities that need looking at. Their flawless night vision for one. Think more 28 Days Later and not Night of the Living Dead. Personally, I don't mind the fact that they're a bit dangerous now. They were stupidly easy before.

Psychic Wolves miles away that Aggro me & ignore the infected.
Tonyeh replied to Raphael_RJ2's topic in General Discussion
Yeh, I like the wolves as they are. In fact, I think I'd make the packs larger. One of the most intense experiences I ever had in the game was with a couple of packs of wolves and me with just a mosin. Not easy to deal with them with that type of weapon. Ended up having to hide in one of those hunter trailers and trying to pick them off, while passing out from lack of blood. LOL -
It depends what server you're on. You can play outback survivor on Chernarus or Deer Isle or even Namalsk, although it's a smaller map. But on a map like Esseker, it's crazy town. In saying that, I've met more straight up people on Esseker than anywhere else. I've ran with Swedes, Croats, Yanks, Georgians and god knows. But you tend not to last too long on that map. It's just PvP really. It's good fun though. However, it's slowly getting destroyed by the base builders and the hoarders. As for difficulty, it depends. As a loner, you are responsible only for yourself. So in some ways it's safer. When you with someone, they can often do stupid things and get everyone killed. I normally play alone and tend to use stealth and caution when getting around. Most people play the game like it's PUBG though. They get a gun, some food and go to town looking for someone to kill.

I headshotted someone and he got me with a legshot
Tonyeh replied to Homeschooliazon's topic in General Discussion
Yeh I riddled someone with the USG yesterday and I know damn well that I hit him multiple times. But...it was one boom...I'm dead. -
The silencers in 1.12 I don't mind at all I must admit. They're a vast improvement over every other patch and are great for clearing out a place of zeds. I actually use some weapons in the game now that I otherwise would never have even bothered touching. The Amphibia, Skorpion and Makarov are great little weapons now and actually fit for some purpose. But the zeds need do to be made more aggressive in their searches I think. Mind you, they do rile each other up now, which is a good thing. But yeah, the new infected are definitely a WIP at the moment. I like them though. They're certainly more difficult to deal with, but they really needed that.

Seriously, I have just this hour got into a scrap with about 6 of them at a military base and walked away from it. I was bleeding from all angles and had to bandage very quickly mind you. But they're not the death sentence that some players are trying to make them out to be. If I had my way, I'd make them harder and have many more of them too. I'd have them zone in to a greater degree on shots fired and make them hunt for longer. They give up far too easy now. And I'd get rid of that ignore mechanic that they current have. I'm on Esseker at the moment and the hardest thing about the zeds is the fact that they can clip through closed doors on that map. But if I want to get by them, I just crouch walk. It just takes a little more time (really, a LITTLE more time).
-
I'm really struggling to understand why so many people are having real trouble with the infected in 1.12. They're really not that difficult to get around. Are players just (crouch) sprinting everywhere? If so, it's no wonder that you are drawing attention to yourselves. As for pistols, yes use them. They fuck all use against players anyway (apart from the Deagle), so they're hardly a waste of ammo on the infected. Get a 9mm and your laughing. Every map I've played on is drenched in 9mm and silencers. It's kinda a no brainer.

Ugh, no thanks.

That would be a nice map alright. But I've never played any ARMA game so I don't know what it's like when actually playing. On new official maps, though, I reckon that we might not be seeing too many (if any) because the sales of Livonia weren't that great if I suspect correctly. The feedback certainly seems to have been quite lacklustre, that's for sure. Thing is, the game is ripe for expansion in such a manner. Make DayZ a worldwide phenomena. It would take quite a bit of work, however, re; asset design/implementation/testing, etc. I'd love to see DayZ transported to a jungle environment though. How cool would that be.

Big maps all the way for me. Small maps just end up in pew pew all the time and can get real boring, real fast. A bigger map will always have its pew pew areas, but also relatively quiet areas too where you can drink in the atmosphere. But I find that the encounters in the middle of nowhere are the most satisfactory. Found a guy in Northern Chernarus once with a handgun trying to fight off a pack of wolves. I ran over and he started firing at me. I said knock it off I'm trying to help you. I had a USG and dispatched them fairly quickly. We cooked the wolves and had a chat. He was from New York and I'm from Ireland. He has family over here. We had a few laughs and traded a bit of gear. Small time stuff. But it was one of the most genuine "howdys" I ever had in the game. But what I'd really like to see is a warm weather map. I'm getting really tired of the cold. I thought Deer Isle was going to be hot, but it was just another freeze. Deer Isle is a pretty good map though. I think what's needed most though are new map assets. The same old buildings can get a little stale.

Yeh, it's probably down to mods. It's no biggie. Just mildly annoying. Either way, on Namalsk, it really doesn't matter what you look like, cos you have to cover every inch of yourself as it's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. It's just that one of the characters looks a bit like in IRL. 😁 Plus, Spaggies has also instituted a policy whereby you have to select a username. But you can't select a character look? Anyway...c'est la vie
-
I've been playing this game for donkeys years, and I'm still stumped at how characters are generated. I'm on a Spaggie Namalsk server at the moment and when I create a character (a bald male), I join the server and...whomp...I'm a female. How? Is this a thing that's just a Spaggie server issue or something?
-
It will only end up with people getting ragdoll'd into space.
-
I'm not sure if this is the case? Last night I was wandering around a large military base and night fell. I ran into a barrack and I was nearly face to face with a zed and he didn't react. I was squatting though. He still got a bullet in the face.
-
I'm playing without a map for the time being, so I have no idea where the choppers are. I found one on top of a snowy mountain beside a cross. But there was bugger all there except infected. Found plenty of headstraps and helmets. But left them.
-
I'm in two minds meself. On the one hand the increased darkness on Namalsk is good for ambiance. On the other, you literally cannot see your hand in front of your face so getting anywhere becomes impossible...which can kill the game TBH. Unless getting to a shelter and hunkering down until morning is part of your game that is. While this is ok if your toon is relatively geared, clothing wise, it's near to impossible if you've just spawned in. Night time means a freeze in that case and I can see why people just log out until daylight comes. Torches are also crap in the game. I used my pistol torch to try and find my way around the underground bunker in the centre of the Namalsk map (which is pitch black at all times) and it was a nightmare. It just doesn't act like a real torch which would light up a room. Instead just merely get a circle of light to find your way around. It just isn't good enough really. Somewhat atmospheric, but annoying after a while. Not going down there again until I manage to find a NVG set...which has proven impossible so far on Namalsk.
-
It's one of the most bizarre changes that I've seen in the game. I mean people eat spuds all the time with their jackets on. And in a time of desperation, you could easily chew down on a potato with it's skin still intact. It wouldn't be terribly tasty, but it would fill a gap.
-
I dunno. All I know is that on the vanilla servers for Chernarus I can see at night pretty fine, once my eyes adjust. But on Spaggies Namalsk I can't see my hand in front of my face.
-
How long does it take to trigger the stones. I had times when I've been running up and down forest paths and they don't seem to spawn at all. Is there a timer involved? Or is it totally random?
