    Regarding the toxic areas

I've been critical of them in so far that I've been meh about them. Searching the map for all the NBC gear has been a right pain in the hole. I'm many hours looking at the moment and all I've found has been a couple of gas masks and an NBC jacket. So frankly this is something that I'm going to be doing just the once probably. That means that the static zones will just be a no go area for me on Chernarus in the future. Mind you I am playing on a server that's full most of the time so all that gear is swiped pretty quick. The dynamic zones I don't mind really as it just adds another danger to the game. So if an area is shelled, I'll just come back later when the gas dissipates. It's a nice idea but, TBH, I can see people getting sorta tired of them in the near future.

    artillery gas

Sure, it's a decent development. Personally, I still pretty meh about it though. But it's WIP still so we'll see where it goes. It's cool hearing a shell flying overhead though. In any case, I'm on Zero Experimental at the moment trying to gather together the gear for a looksee at Pavlovo, even though I said it's a PITA to get the clown suit. But somehow I managed to get salmonella and that, sure as shit, is one of the most annoying things I've ever experienced in DayZ, so it's making that task doubly irritating. 🤬

    artillery gas

Agreed. It really hasn't made any difference to my playtime. It's too much of a pain in the arse to go around trying to collect all the NBC gear, so that means that the permanently gassed areas are just a no go for me and, TBH, I think the novelty will wear off for a lot of players in the near future.

    Disney/Marvel define zombies.

I can see it now.... "Phew, they don't want to eat me. They just want to beat me to death."

    Disney/Marvel define zombies.

Since George Romero's 'Night of the Living Dead' in 1968 we've come to accept that a zombie is a reanimated corpse that feeds on the flesh of the living. Before Romero's movie, zombies appeared in films like 'I walked with a Zombie' or 'White Zombie', neither of which featured flesh eating corpses, but voodoo reanimated "living" people. Usually in films before 1968, "zombies" were creatures under the "spell" of someone who would set them various tasks. In Hammer's 'The Plague of the Zombies', they were set to work in a tin mine for example. But it was Romero's films that set the tone of what a zombie was for nearly 30 years. More recently, the likes of '28 Days Later' muddied the waters a bit. But even Danny Boyle said that the infected people in his film were not "zombies". As for DayZ, the "zombies" in it are more akin to the infected of '28 Days Later' than the reanimated corpses of, say, 'Dawn of the Dead'. Personally, I grew up with Romero's zombie, so that's what it will always be to me.

    The UMP

The reason for the flags was to stop everyone running around with an AK or M4. So the devs had sound reasoning to put them in. They just didn't count on people running around the map and, basically, eliminating the top tier stuff from the game to the point where there were tons of people complaining that they couldn't find a decent gun anywhere. To me, however, those flags are the absolute worst thing about the game and I'm waiting for the time that they're gone from it. These days, though, with the boost in lethality of 7.62x39 (That is until they nerf it again.), it doesn't really matter as much any more. Picking up an SKS means you have an excellent rifle and there's a lot of ammo available for it. I've dropped M4's to take an SKS in 1.13. My only issue with it is it's semi and cannot take a real suppressor.

Ah nothing. I was writing something and then realised it was bollocks.

Whatever. All I can tell you is that when I was playing on official last year, it took me months to actually find an assault rifle. I had to server hop to a low pop persistence off US map to find an AK. They were impossible to find on any of the EU servers. I play only on private servers now and it's a better experience. Also the AK47u is a carbine, not an assault rifle, and it's easily the worst of the AK family. It's not subject to the restrictions that the actual assault rifles are in the game, which is why it's easy to find. But there's no comparison to it and a proper AK rifle.

    The UMP

On official it could be, literally, months before you get your hands on a real assault rifle due to the fact that the CLE gets fucked up by all the hoarders.

^ Knockback would be a great addition to the effects on a player from handgun hits. It would make a handgun useful, as opposed to just useful against the infected. BTW, always surprised that dum dum's are legal in the US, but are banned during an actual war.

If you get shot with a 9mm round to the chest at less than 50 yards, there's a bloody good chance of you being knocked on your arse and out like a light. A 9mm is not made of foam. It's a bit of metal hitting you at great speed. Sure, there are numerous variables at play as to how the human body would react, but It's certainly nothing to be scoffed at. A lot of people seem to go around thinking that 9mm or .380 is some sort of harmless BB round. Just because a 9 mil slug isn't a 7.62 rifle round doesn't mean that it isn't dangerous. It will incapacitate you to varying degrees, including death. As to the size of "holes", you can be shot and it might make a relatively "small hole" entry wound, but internally you could be haemorrhaging profusely. The external hole doesn't really mean all that much and it isn't the only one that leads to blood loss.

    Takistan

Unfortunately, this is the case. It's a nice looking map and a welcome change from the usual freeze your bollocks off DayZ experience. But the problem with it is the same one that plagues Esseker. It's just a PVP map because it's so small, which is always what's going to happen when the real estate is limited. It's a decent PVP map, but still just a PVP map. But for the time being it serves that purpose. In saying that, it's ironic that on both Esseker and Takistan, I have found more friendly players than on any other map I've played. This is despite the fact that it's solidly PVP. If anyone's trying it, I'd say go for Zero Takistan rather than Spaggies. Spaggies has tons of new guns added that just kills the game stone dead. You run to an airfield and gear up. Takes about an hour, tops. Then there really is nothing else to do but go on a killing spree until your dead. So, while it's great that we are getting new maps on DayZ, what we really need are new maps that are the size of Chernarus or bigger, especially if you want to do any PVE in a significant way. Because once players get bored of the smaller maps they are effectively useless.

Night Vision Goggles - Require Balance?

I've looked through real night vision goggles and after your eyes become used to them, you can see quite clearly. Close up. Far away is another story as everything tends to blend into a shade of green, and if a torch is shone into them it blinds you almost completely. The NVG's in DayZ are ok, but maybe a little too good. They're not crazy OP though like some might suggest. I like using them personally. As for the advantage they give over players that don't have them...well, that's the point isn't it? In any case, the best thing players can do if the nights are set to dark and they don't have NVG is find a place and hunker down. Then wait til morning. Much like real life would demand. I've had plenty of tense moments guarding a door of a house that I've selected for "bed time" and nights aren't really that long on most servers that I've played on. And when I'm on on official (which is less and less these days), they're bright anyway so who cares.

    DayZ Update 1.13

Yeh. We really need to get away from the idea that these are "zombies" and not crazed, infected, people. There are zombies... ...and there are, ahem, "zombies" (that aren't really zombies)... The guy below is a better representation of what's in DayZ. It's a living person infected with a virus that causes them to go into an uncontrollable attack on uninfected people. Personally, if such things actually existed I'd rather face off with the first one. They're slow and easily dispatched. The one below, on the other hand, SHOULD be more dangerous. They're fast, unpredictable, and still possess the physicality that they had before they got infected with whatever it is that makes them batshit crazy. I've said it before, but if I had my way I'd make them much harder than they are in the game right now. First of all, I'd make them be able to pass on whatever viral infect they had to the player if they managed to get a couple of blows in. Even with the increase in toughness they received, they still little more than a nuisance. Players should be terrified of PvP when there's more than a few of the infected around, because it would mean a death sentence for them too.

    The UMP

Well sure, "surviving"...after much hospitalisation no doubt. But I guarantee you that anyone getting hit with a 9mm slug isn't going to be running around like nothing happened. They're not made of foam. It's just that I think if you hit an unarmoured player numerous times (5 in this case), even with a pistol calibre slug, it should at least lead to a stagger effect and an unconscious state. Now, he must have been gushing blood and needed multiple bandages to stem the flow. But still. As I said, I understand that it's a game, but the likes of that just shouldn't be happening and all it results in is useless items that players aren't afraid of. Now, I'm not saying that .380 or 9mm should have the same affect as a rifle calibre round, but it certainly needs to be upped in terms of what it can do.

    Takistan

Yeh. I just know Chernarus too well now. Takistan is a complete unknown though. So when you find something, it really is new. The ingame map is about as useful as a chocolate teapot though. Plus the heat thing adds a new element, although it hasn't been too challenging I have to say and the sandstorms can be a bitch. If there's one criticism I have it's that the loot in civilian houses can be a bit sparse and underwhelming...and very random. So a lot of players just make a beeline to whatever the nearest airport is making places like that a deathtrap. There's no base building, though, so people can't horde shit and wreck the game. So there's a good chance to find some decent weaponry. It's worth a go.

    Disconnect Breath-Holding From Stamina

Yeh, I don't think have camper snipers sit around all day holding their breaths for 60 secs is going to go down too well with many people. Sniping is already far too easy in DayZ. There has to be at least a tiny bit of difficulty involved.

    The UMP

Nah man. 5 rounds of 9mm should be more than enough put an unarmoured guy down. I know it's a game and all, but seriously. It didn't even stop this guy's stride.
  20. Tonyeh

    The UMP

All of the guns need increasing in lethality. Especially the 9mm, because it is absolute fucking shit. I've just put 5 rounds into a new spawn and they didn't put him down. That's just a load of old bollocks.

    Wound infection

Um. Well, so far I have yet to get an infection from a zombie. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ In fact, since 1.13 I have yet to catch any disease, except for a short bout of cholera because I was desperate for water, which lasted aprox. 15 minutes and was managed with great ease. Also, I make sure to disinfect everything. With regards to freshie towns, I generally avoid the infected on the coast. I won't go toe to toe with them, specifically to avoid infection. I don't why people go on boxing matches with them at that stage of the game.
  22. Tonyeh

    Wound infection

It's really, really, not that difficult to avoid any sickness in this game.
  23. Tonyeh

    Cholera/Influenza (returning player)

If you're sneezing, it's a cold. It'll pass. To avoid them, don't get wet and cold. Although, IRL, that's not how you actually catch a cold. In any case, it's mildly irritating illness. Just stay out of populated areas til it's gone and keep your temperature up.

    KA74

The SKS is probably the best gun in the game at the moment. Decent ammo count, accurate, hard hitting and lethal at short and medium distances. It's only drawback is a lack of a suppressor.

    Disgusting 2

I ditched the Amphibia for a Glock, cos I thought I'd find a suppressor easy. They were so common in 1.12. A big fat duh on my part.
