Bye so.

The last guy went for over a month, until I blew myself up. Never had to worry about food for a single second once I got over the first 30 minutes. The toon I'm using since the 1st Sept. is the same. There was a half hour at the beginning where I looked for a knife and then some chicken meat, Once that was done, food completely ceased to be any kind of an issue. I shot a cow on the 2nd Sept. and haven't looked back. I didn't even have to take all of the meat that it dropped. Because it doesn't matter. There are stags and roebucks everywhere. Wait a wee while and you'll attract a wolf. Cows and pigs spawn very regularly. There are more chickens in Chernarus than there are indoor toilets.

I wonder if there's any chance that we can get the AK situation fixed for 1.09's release? It's frankly ridiculous the way things are at the moment. Having them essentially impossible to find because so few spawn and what little do are hoarded is a terrible mechanic. In three months of solid play, I have found ONE KA-74.

Except it isn't an important factor later in the game. That's the problem. I want to see hunting for food become more significant than it is. But that would facilitate a more balanced start when the player spawns. For example, last night I stupidly killed myself with a grenade that bounced back in my direction (duh) so I had to respawn. I had about 30 minutes or so to get my shit together food wise. Once I had found a knife, matches and killed about 5 chickens, I was fully sorted and I'll never have to worry about food again. So the only thing the mechanic does, as it currently stands, is makes things exactly the same scenario every time you start. All my stats are white now and from here on in, all I have to worry about is other players... ...or a bouncing grenade.

That's not the case, because food in general will be harder to come by and hunting for it will be a necessity and if you don't hunt for it, you will starve. I get the feeling that people here are seeing "start on a fuller stomach" and missing the rest. I'm not saying that players should start on a fuller stomach and keep things as they currently are. I want a reduction in canned food, fizzy drinks and wildlife too. Which will, in fact, make it essential to hunt for food and stock it up...so you DON'T starve. As it stands, the ONLY time a player may starve is at the very beginning of the game. The revisions I am talking about will make that a possibility THROUGHOUT the game.

Has anyone ever found one of these? I know they're supposed to be rare. But, frankly, it's "rareness" is absurd. In months of playing I have not found a single one. Looking for it as an attachment for my KAS 74u, which is the only bloody AK type weapon I've been able to locate so far, too. The only AK type weapon... ...in Russia! SMH. Where is it that they spawn?

A pelt back pack is a good idea. Personally, I usually run with a burlap bag on my back and that tends to be all I need from a backpack POV. Once I get some hunter trousers on and a hunter jacket (and possibly throw in a buttpack) and I'm as happy as Larry as far as space for stuff is concerned. Plus, my profile is significantly reduced. On the plus side, pelt backpacks can be water proof too.

No. Even without using shift and just jogging, new spawns, especially new players are starving to death because they start off near starvation. There's an imbalance at the moment, in my view and a mechanic that disappears once the player gets over the initial irritation and finding food just becomes a meh and easy to do task. I think there's a case to be made that the initial, overbearing and repetitive chore at the start of each player character should be changed and the abundance of foodstuff, including animals, needs to be downgraded in order to make the need for food an actual responsibility that the player needs to be aware of. Right now, people are more afraid of getting wet than they are of hunger, once they're outside that initial race for food at first spawn.
-
No. I'm dead serious. At the moment, the only time that the player has to worry about food is at the beginning of their "spawn life", where it's frankly ridiculous and completely one note every time you start. But after you sort it out, it ceases to be a concern because hunting animals is so easy. I'd like to see a better balance introduced where the player has to think of food as important and not just a minor task, once the initial silliness is done away with. I'd like to see less animal spawns, but a fuller stomach at the beginning, so that every start isn't the same mad dash around the place so you don't starve. BTW, I am not asking for the game to be easier here. I'm asking for it to be somewhat harder.

The struggle for food should be a core mechanic throughout the game. Not just something that's annoying at the beginning. As things stand, when you spawn the ONLY thing the player has on their mind is racing around looking for food so the don't starve because the stats are so low. But once you get your stats into the white, it ceases to be a concern. So, what we have is JUST an irritating obstacle at the beginning of the game.
-
It doesn't have to happen in a split second.
-
The solution there is to delete the body and the gear, so freshies don't just sprint to where they dropped.
-
Agree with this. That change makes no real sense. But what I'd really like to see as far as a change in spawning goes, is for players to spawn with a full stomach, so there isn't this silly, automatic, need to go racing around for food the second you're in the game. But, food sources, including animals should be made harder to find/hunt. As things stand, there's a mad dash to get all your vitals into the white. But from there on in, it's easy street as far as food is concerned. So the only hardship, as far as food is concerned, is the pain in the arse the player has to go through at the beginning of every character. So, spawning characters with damaged clothes also, is just going to make that pain in the arse even worse.

Even so, American weaponry should be less common to come across than AK weaponry in a game set in an Eastern European country. The AK line of rifles are literally the most popular and most produced in the world. Demanding that AK's "piss off" because someone wants US weapons in a game set in Eastern Europe strikes me as "off" to say the least. Players should be able to come across AK's and their attachments fairly easily in the game and finding American gear should be an occasion and perhaps limited to a single base and US helicopter crashes. In any case, this is all academic, because the devs has seen fit to basically make it nearly impossible to find an AK due to the strange way that the loot economy is set up and how stashes effectively eliminate the spawning of certain items. I was hoping to see a change in that angle with 1.09.
-
You're playing a game that's set in Eastern Europe in the 90's. AR's and whatnot SHOULD be rare and AK's SHOULD be common.
-
It's one of my biggest bugbears with the game that the AK guns are as rare as hen's teeth. An AK47 being rare in an Eastern Bloc country in the 90's is like having trouble finding a pint of Guinness in Dublin. It sounds and is ridiculous. However, they DO spawn. I've sound a few baby AK's and one AK-74, which has become my main rifle. I have yet to find my beloved AKM though or a silencer to fit the AK's. The guns spawn in military barracks buildings and I've also found the baby AK in the military prison building. I have only found these weapons on Persistence Off public servers. The problem is that people find them and stash them, making them not spawn and screwing up the loot economy. The devs really need to look into this issue, because it's just plain sill at this point. They either need to up the number of AK spawns or do away with stashed items counting against number of spawning items. The hunting scope spawns regularly in the hunting lodges in those camping grounds and sometimes in the dear stands and the M70 spawns at the castle areas and also sometimes in the dear stands. You should have no trouble finding them. BTW, the SKS is a good rifle, in lieu of an AK. But if it's run and gun type play that you're after, you should stick to the SMG's.

I considered it very briefly. But having been caught in a room before with no way out and used as target practice by other players, I decided that getting out of there was the more prudent action. Considering that they just opened fire on me as I was running away, I would say that was the right call.
-
Fine. But I think you missed my point. I just don't see the value in wondering if it's a human firing a gun or a bot.
-
I don't think either myself or Kathosky are saying that DayZ will be destroyed completely by AI survivors. But, I do think that the balance as it currently stands would be severely lessened due to bot presence. Sure, if single players want a server full of bots to play with, then go ahead. But, to me, that misses the unique point of the game completely and there are numerous other single player zombie games out there that can cater for that kind of play and in the end I think it will only appeal to the run and gun crowd. Hopping onto a server that's full (whether that's human players or bots) would kill the atmosphere for me. Knowing that I would have a very high chance of running into a non-infected character really wouldn't do much for my enjoyment of the game. The best moments of DayZ are the "all of a sudden" panic stations that happen when you do run into people. For instance, a couple of nights ago I was running around the north at dusk on a server with about 4 other people on it. So, here's me letting my guard down and jogging around the place looking for that bloody AK silencer that I've been seeking for a couple of weeks now, and out of nowhere I hear talking and footsteps. I'm in a long barracks at a camping site, so I have nowhere to go if things get all bullety. So, I have to make a mad dash for the door and hope for the best. These guys are on open mics for some reason and I frighten the crap out them and can hear them startled. They, of course, start firing (what I presume to be SKS's because of the semi auto reports) and I'm running as fast as I can away from the area. I got winged, but managed to get down to some rocks on a small cliff face and bandage myself. I wait for a while and nobody comes so I try to leap back up the rocks, but can't so I have to carefully jump down the cliff face further, nearly killing myself in the process. I survived...barely. No bot encounter could rival that.

Mmmmm...I just don't see the point in wondering whether the enemy firing a gun at you is another player or a bot. I don't know what that brings to table really. Besides, in...erm...a "real life" DayZ...it could ONLY be a human as the infected don't use guns. So, when you do hear a gunshot, there shouldn't be any wondering going on. Besides, in my experience of playing computer games, which stems back to the 80's, AI shooting is either unbelievably accurate or exploitable to the point of uselessness once the human brain figures out their rhythms, which would make AI survivors a completely redundant element in a very short period of time. TBH, I'd rather modders made more efforts to enhance the infected AI instead of just creating bots to shoot at players.
-
I think AI will wreck the game. The beauty of DayZ is NOT knowing if you'll run into actual people, or if they'll be dicks (of course 99% of the time they're dicks 😆 ) and just start firing at you for your beans. Having AI survivors in certain places will just eliminate that feeling of always being unsure who you'll run into and kill that feeling of whether to hit that town, city or military base or not risk it. The player will eventually get the hang of the AI weak spots and exploit them just like human players exploit game AI all the time. The AI survivors will eventually just become something to farm loot off of for the human players. It's a terrible idea.

12ga 00 Buckshots fires 2 pellets instead of 8 --> 75% less damage but it still kills chickens Is the above confirmed? Cos I knew there was something seriously wrong with the buckshot since the last patch.
-
Do you have an IP address for it?
-
Is RUIN a server in America? Sounds like something I'd like to check out. The military stuff largely ruins DayZ to be honest. Unfortunately, If that server is in the States, my ping will be too high. 😞

I get what you mean. I just hopped a load of DE servers and every one was lashing. Found one that wasn't. Played for 10 minutes and it started raining. LOL. Ran for the nearest deer stand and chilled for a while.
