How to Fix the Fashion Issue

There have been waterproof spray for clothing in the market for years, this could be a cool add on in the game too. While those are far from being the perfect solution against the rain and they wear off after a while, they still work and with spray in the game you could make your personal favorite clothing somewhat water resistant. The devs could use the graphics of disinfectant spray or spray paint, just change the color and label. What I'd like to see for example are rain ponchos, disposable rain jackets, plastic leggings etc. stuff which you could wear on your other clothing. These would take less inventory space and you wouldn't need to empty your coat to change a rain coat on.

    Anti-stab vest

Thanks for the post, it answered to many questions I had in mind. Someone, might have been Wobo's testing, claimed pans and pots offer protection. Do they, or are pans and pots counted as the Protector Case, as 1 item only?

    Surviving hypothermia

That's actually lucky, as hypothermia can easily be fatal. I just found that out yesterday. I had the shakes for past two or three days, but other than that I seemed healthy. Even measured my temperature few times, and it was 35-35.6 C. Yesterday I did a very successful loot run, and was going back to my camp. I had my prime gear on, and my backpack was mostly filled with all kinds of nice stuff it's usually hard to find. It was early morning and it had been raining every now and then, and I had made a fire 3-4 times to dry myself. It started to rain again but this time as I got drenched I got hypothermic as well. Immediately I cut couple of trees but there was no place near enough I could go inside to make a fire, so I was happy as the rain ceased and I got to make a fire as soon as the trees were cut. My clothes dried and I started to get messages I'm warming up quickly... and I was like "phewww looks like I can make it!"... but then I just died. This happened about five minutes after receiving first "i'm hypothermic" message. Respawned to the coast and spent 45 minutes running to the spot to salvage my backpack at least, but didn't make it in time. Nooot happy.

more loot / weapons on private hives

Btw is there any chance to find tents/barrels in popular private servers, with persistance on? I know places where to look and I've been going around looking for stuff to store items, but no luck so far. Only couple protective cases I've found.
  6. Recently I've been going to bed and waking up in funny hours, so the servers I normally play are often empty. Sometimes I start to hear directional sounds, such as gates and doors being opened etc. Checking playerlist confirms that another player or more have logged in. Now it seems like if you play in a populated server you will hear these sounds even there aren't other players nearby, so lulled to a sense of false security by this thought I kept looting one of the small villages when there were only 3 players in the server including me - until I luckily spotted a guy with an AK in his hands on my trail. While I think I can tell the difference between ambient sounds (like gates clanging in the wind) and action based sounds, it seems it's difficult to judge is the cause of latter sounds near or far. As far as I know, if I hear sounds like gun loading or steps then I know for sure someone is close, but how about other sounds? Are all these sounds more or less buggy or can you use them to help your survival?

Sounds of movement, near or far?

Thanks man, this is something I totally forgot or never learned to do.

Sounds of movement, near or far?

Hopefully the devs read this! :beans: About player created sounds... what I can tell, most sounds a moving player makes play equally loud, there's not much difference if you crouch and move, crawl or walk. Running is a bit louder but sometimes you can have people running right next you and you won't hear a thing or vice versa. I hope they get this fixed too, if you run around on a pavement wearing heavy boots - well there should by sounds! Other thing is at the moment you can be quite soundless, if you nudge your guy by tapping direction keys quickly, and while it works it's stupid. They should add a stealth mode as it's obviously needed. This mode could make your movement more silent but of course very slow as well, as you have to think about every step you take.

    RARE!

The clothes the characters wear is one of the most funniest and surreal parts in that show. Like Rick Grimes wearing the same dirty brown t-shirt for five seasons. They walk around a lot, and he changes it to a gray or white t-shirt every now and then, but he never seems to carry a backpack for clothes. You can spot similar oddities happening with other characters. The way the characters wear helps viewers to identify them better, so The Walking Dead is very much a tv-show. While it's well made still it's just a fantasy. In Dayz there are a lot of various civilian clothes and gear, people have that choice but they tend to choose military gear. There are plausible real life reasons they would do so in a post-apocalyptic world, such as military gear probably endures difficult conditions better than H&M clothes and trendy teenager school backpacks. I go outdoors a lot, I do hiking, so I have collected green/camo/black/brown colored clothes and equipment for it. To find military gear I don't have to go to the nearest military zone or helicrash site, I can just walk twenty meters from my laptop and take an M65 out from my closet. :D

how do i refuel my truck?

Maybe the fuel tank is damaged? If so, it's repaired by server restart.

I killed my first man today.....

Nice story, and sounds like a justified hit. I also killed my first in police station. I was on the 2nd floor in Elektro PD station changing pants, and heard one of the doors being opened downstairs. Some guy rushed immediately up the stairs, I had just enough time to exit from inventory and turn as I was standing my back towards the stairway, and the guy was already on the second floor. Bang Bang, said my .357 and the guy fell down dead. Just an unarmed freshspawn. One of those "no time to think"-situations. In most cases if you don't start shooting around you have a good chance to survive meeting me even in a police station, I figured out a routine so I can atleast try to have a word first.

Sounds of movement, near or far?

True, I played last when 0.54 was on, and non directional eating etc. sounds were pretty common. Now almost all sounds are directional, so it's been another learning opportunity for me lol Wooden door closing, a thudding sound, I imagine is ambient too normally. Really close to what the player makes when closing a wooden door. Haven't seen or heard any cows since I came back, thought there are no animals either but then saw a horde of deers near Novy Sobor.

    Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

I would imagine anyone in their right mind would use any aircraft for an attempt to get out of zombie/hostile survivor infested place, to look for better living conditions or remains of organized civilization, instead of staying inside an 225 square kilometer area just flying around and hunting other survivors and their campsites. But this is exactly how it's going to be when aircraft is added, and because of this, the whole idea doesn't make much sense. Still I voted yes with some reservations, something like one civilian helicopter and one civilian aircraft (such as Cessna) per server would be fun... but to have a lot of air traffic or air combat over post-apocalyptic country doesn't read like great gameplay or "realistic survival in a post apocalyptic world infested with zombies".
  14. I spent few days of past week picking mushrooms in the woods of north Finland. It's customary in here, that if you see people in forest, you should go to meet them and have a short chat and maybe an exchange of information - like if you've seen an elk earlier and then you meet a hunting party, you can tell them where you saw the animal and in return they can give information about whatever you're after. Something like that. Can be real fun too, once I went to have a chat with few dudes by a campfire, and we ended up having drinks as they had brought an impressive amount of booze with them. But when I spotted some hunters now, my first thought wasn't "Hey I should go meet them" but more like "Hmmm... can I risk it, I don't even have a gun on me yet?"

    Is this item gone?

Found more combat knives than military boots, but it's true they are somewhat rare. Couple days ago I even had two, so I was gonna give the other one to next random survivor I meet, but the guy kept shooting so much, so I thought maybe he doesn't want it then and moved away.

Tried H1Z1, tried Aftermath, please halp

I wasn't talking about brutal survival game, I was talking about earlier bugs which could kill your character for no apparent reason, which don't seem to exist anymore. Besides why shouldn't I have a hard time dying in PvE situations? I've been in very interesting situations in rl, and survived. Zombies were enough a threat in 0.55 to have people complaining zombies being "too hard" even here. As said, a single blow could ruin your jacket/pants with everything inside, cripple you, or even kill you. To avoid this you had to avoid zombie attacks, so if you were smart enough to avoid them easily, then congratulations, but not all will agree with you or 31ROX on zombies not presenting a real threat.

Tried H1Z1, tried Aftermath, please halp

    1. How have the updates been the past year? Didn't play much in past few months, but looks like during this time they managed to got rid of some bugs, which could kill your guy for no apparent reason. In couple weeks that I've played now, I've only died if shot by another player, so that's very cool. Looks like they are going to add a bunch of new vehicles in the next update, that can change the game in a big way. 2. How fun is the zombie aspect? Not much fun now, as there are almost none in the game, but what I hear they will return reworked - so I'm expecting them to be more fun than they were previously. I slightly disagree with 31ROY, as zombies were enough a challenge so they could ruin your gear, or even kill you with a single blow at least in update .55, which I played last before returning. 3. What is the best format to play DayZ in? Not sure if I understand what you mean by format, but if you're talking about how to play the game, then you can try to play in different ways in different servers. It's a rich world, there is no single best way to play. For example, you can learn to play very stealthy if you play lone wolf in a popular server. That skill then will benefit your teamplay too. 4. Invite me to your bandit clan cuz I want to force feed people rotten food for their can of beans. Not in a clan, so no can do. As there are no zombies you might want to wait before buying it, like update .59 or .60. But given that the map is big you might also want to have some experience before the zombies return.

Did I do something wrong? Sniping in the Airfield

I don't get this, how clothing is designed for killing other people? Anyways, I don't think anyone gets traumatized playing Dayz, and original post doesn't definitely refer to a traumatizing experience, but a moral dilemma. The guy who was killed by FrigginTommy might have been the nastiest basterd or the coolest person ever, but there's no way to tell. I don't know if you realize this, there are people playing this game in various ways which don't include killing other players. Well experienced players who choose to not to kill, not because they suck at fighting, but because they want to learn different ways to play the game than just pvp. As most of these players want to equip well like anyone else, so they will go to search military sites for better gear, exactly like the ones who will kill others just for fun or loot. You seem to judge that everyone in military site is free game as they present a threat. My point of view is not that much different, maybe I am less trigger happy I don't know, but I know Dayz is not Tetris, so there is no need to oversimplify the game experience.

    What's up with the loot?

So is the word now, and it would be a major letdown if they didn't. But which cars and how many there will be per sever, this we will find out when the patch comes.

Suits for women too, with matching skirts, for that secretary/businesswoman look.

The problem with the game. My views

Agree, although feels like in some private servers might take an hour or two longer to get such a kit. Seen two SVDs, both in Mi8 crash sites. I think SVDs are supposed to spawn only in crash sites. Only fired one shot with an SVD, just to see how it works, as both times I was killed pretty soon after finding them lol. AK101s seem to spawn in military tents, along with all attachments, but you're much more likely to find an AKM or AK74 though.

POLL: DayZ and BI experience so far

Dayz is a fine game, and Bohemia has kept doing good work since Operation Flashpoint which blew my mind back in 2001, but honestly I don't see myself participating in another early access alpha project as a player and a customer. Why there are generally less players at the moment is anybody's guess. Maybe it's because there are no zombies or some other issue, but as well it can be linked to the fact that summer's over and many people focus on studying & school & work for now, but most likely after a while there will be more people returning to play games. I can only speak for myself. I don't regret buying the game nor I have had much issues understanding that this is an early access alpha project. But what I do when I encounter a dealbreaker? I have a pause and check later if the game works better. I just came back from a four month pause. Initially I needed to focus on other things, but why I didn't rush back was my experience with 0.55. Loot was really hard to find few days after the patch, and after all the effort I put in finding it, I STILL kept dying often just because early access and alpha, like climbing to a watchtower, standing 10 meters away from the edge of a cliff, crouching still in a barn, invisible zombies, bouncing trucks, truck crashing to invisible walls, getting stuck under a floor because happened to be in a wrong hut when server restarted etc. etc. Admittedly I did find new ways to play and further developed survival skills because the loot was so scarce, but I grew tired to this repeating pattern, that after overcoming all the hardships I was then rewarded by some bug killing my character. Now after a week or so my experience goes like "Okay, so there are no zombies, I can live with that for a while as I acknowledge they needed fixing, but I don't get how one can have a leg injury just by crouching still in a barn?" Still, I guess it's improvement, I didn't die to it this time. :)

    How was your Day(Z)?

The Fisherman of Skalisty Island: Prologue To keep my promise given in general discussion thread, I decided to be a fisherman in Skalisty in one of the popular EU 50 player private servers. As you all know Skalisty is one of the suckiests place to respawn. Very limited chances to find food or clothes. Back in 0.55 days I once died there due to starvation, which was probably quickened by my idea to dig worms and eat them, as only thing I could find from the island was a shovel. Well, to be honest I did find a orange boonie hat too, so it was not all bad. Anyway, then I puked few times which I guess made my hunger even worse. After swimming to the mainland I then fell unconscious to the ground, woke up, fell unsconscious again, and finally died. So, I have been thinking the best way to help fresh people is to give them good fresh fish. Also, maybe some clothes, and even matches so they can make a fire to dry up when they get to mainland. Personally, I need some gear too for my own survival, and maybe a hand gun or a sawed-off Izh 43 or something like that for my protection, just in case if some newcomer comes up with an idea that "Hey me smart boy me take that raincoat and orange hat from the friendly fisherman [insert an idiotically smiling monkey face smiley here with a shining light bulb above it]". I also will need some way to storage stuff too to keep gear on me limited, to make myself less tempting target for robbery plus then some stuff will survive, if that idiotically smiling monkeyface newborn manages to kill me somehow. After all it's well possible, the other day I was invited to a bum fight after I just respawned with some food as a price for winning, and I knocked the other guy down with I think one or two hits with just fists. I'm not planning to keep the storage on the island, so don't get any ideas! ))) And of course, I will need all possible fishing gear for the best optimized fishing performance! On Skalisty itself I can fish sardines and mackerels from the sea, but there are no ponds on the island, so carp is not there. But the cool thing is that if I swim over to mainland, over Skalisty Proliv or Skalisty Strait, there's a group of ponds on the other side, immediately west from Krutoy Cap. I'm not sure if I can fish in those, as I remember at least earlier not all ponds were there for fishing for some reason or another - but anyways I will take scavenging tours, so at least I can do rod fishing then. What I need to gather for all this fishing: water bottles, knife, metal wire, netting, shovel and rope. Or guts. Maybe it's gonna be guts. To wear: Definitely a rain coat and a boonie hat, and wellies. Without proper clothing the professional fishing just can't happen. There's one thing I'd like to figure it out by the time when I get the operation running. I am not sure yet how to identify myself then, is it like Skalistyan fisherman or Skalistenese fisherman or what? Any suggestions? Anyway, let the salty and smelly adventure begin!
  24. If you know already what's behind everything, how it can be done easily and better already then what's the point of this discussion? Can't you just present what you have in mind to the devs? Also, since I saw the trouble of taking part in this discussion, you in turn can well use my username.
