True. I had this strange accident, the truck I was driving started to fly, to maybe 200 meters high. We came down on a hillside, truck flipped but we were okay, and after server restart I picked the truck from the location. I was carrying a tire repair kit and a jerry can, but it was, as you say, fully repaired and refueled, strangely pointing north east.

Yeah that makes sense. Still about postponing, the latest status report says: "...we need to have a visible improvement on performance when it hits experimental". I recall Hicks(?) spoke earlier the new renderer having just about 10% increase on performance initially. I doubt 10% would feel like an visible improvement if fps is low to begin with, so likely they have raised the bar for the release. If it's good or bad in terms of progress and general playability, that I wouldn't know.

I feel stupid like I did in DayZ 3 years ago.. please help!
Herkyl Puuro replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Are computer game bugs contagious and can they be transmitted over internet forum discussions? Maybe it's the same disease I just got, and have slightly different symptoms to Irish. When the Kashtan scope is attached to an AK I get the zoom but not the sight through scope, and if I take the scope in my hand and try to use it like a binoc, then I get a weird picture where my thumb covers most of the scope. Binoculars and every other scope I have, PU, hunting, pistol, etc. seem to work normally though. What gives? Logging off and restarting Dayz didn't help this time. -
I remember reading, that they postponed release of the new renderer to work on it, because people were disappointed hearing about as you say improvements being very modest at first.

You can alter config file values, like scenecomplexity is by default 500k, which is the amount of textures game is trying to load at the same time, if you change it to for example 150k it will help your performance, graphics will suffer a bit but not greatly. Also you can config steam to use more memory etc. There are written and video guides about hot to increase performance with settings and configurations, this stuff is probably discussed under some topic here in the forums too.

That's wise. I also think nvidia optimization only as a starting point, because I've noticed with some games I can safely max all settings and it still performs great - while Nvidia wants to keep settings relatively low. And also, turning down some setting from very high to high etc, can increase performance significantly. Early this year I got a new ASUS gaming laptop with i7 and 970, and it works beautifully with pretty much every other game, sadly just not so well with Dayz.

If trying what is said here doesn't work, it might be a bug too. Couple weeks ago I had problem with binoculars & PU scope not showing as supposed to. Problem was solved when I logged off and back in though. -

You can't make a fire on the floor of any buildings any more, but you can make a fire using an oven, if the house has one. -
Couple weeks ago I was thinking to create a small camp just for one guy, but the official server I'm usually in spawns all kinds of tents and barrels, and it feels like I'm the only one picking them up there, so my one guy camp just keeps growing and growing. With all the stuff I have become super paranoid and super careful, but still seem to enjoy exchange with other players. Haven't met many people lately though, except had a mag trade with other campers, which went well. Everyone kept their gear and lives. Later I did have a firefight in eastern part of Severograd, I had the guy pinned behind a wall and was about to close the deal as he had a Blaze and I have a hunting scope missing one, but he logged off or ran away in those two seconds I spent reloading my SKS. It was okay, as I din't have anything against the guy really, it was just one of those meeting engagements when finding the talk key takes one second too much. And I found a Win 70 from a house soon after. Yea, I've stayed alive for two weeks. Maybe even three. If so, that'd be my personal record. Smooth runnings.

WHERE DO YOU FIND SOMETHING OTHER THAN CR75s
Herkyl Puuro replied to omera's topic in New Player Discussion
Go inland. You can directly run from the east coast to the western debug plains in about an hour, so spending hours and server hopping in the same whatever place you spawn into is just dumb. Smaller towns are good for pistols, shotguns and rifles. From military areas you'll find AKs and SKS rifles. There are many, not just "the military base", i don't even know which one you mean by it. The NW Airfield and Myshkino tents are the popular spots, chances are you get into some trouble in these. From heli crash sites you'll find Steyrs, M4s, SVDs etc. You're lucky you weren't around in 0.55. You would've been happy with any gun and complaining about not finding food. -
Met some Uk guys policing Berezino on Grumpy Gamers, forgot to swap Steam info
Herkyl Puuro replied to KenoSkir88's topic in General Discussion
Grumpy is a fun server. Had shortest life there, I respawned and some guy was standing like 10 meters away, said "Hello and good bye!" and shot me with a .357 lol -
It's cholera, you used to be able to cure it with antibiotics, but at the moment you just have to try to keep eating and drinking, and avoid puking. If it's bad like stage 3 or 4 he's gonna need many saline bags to survive. Here's a recent Wobo video about it. http://www.dayztv.com/video/dayz-a-guide-to-cholera-in-dayz-standalone/

In one server I found four Saline bag IVs from a hospital, but haven't seen start kits lately.

My dream is close to yours, to see all kinds of zombies, like zombies staying in one place - for example individuals staying near where their home was, and groups of different sizes wandering around Chernarus. And zombies inside buildings too, of course. Some could carry items worthwhile to loot.

Certainly feels like it, you get a bullet ricochet sound when you hit a wall with your fist, and then sometimes it looks like your enemy can hit you with his fists from a 5-10 meter distance, while running away ahead of you.

First few days of dying and not much playing
Herkyl Puuro replied to AnArmyOfBeaker's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't think they will add on screen compass as they'd probably done that by now. What you can do, is to have the compass in one of your hotkey slots, and it will show your direction there in your hotkey menu too. Like, if the red arrow points to center of the cover of the compass, then you're going north. This way you only need to hit tab key to check your direction. -
Found few STANAG mags, and mainly from crash sites, seen only one or two in an officer barracks. 5.56 boxes are really rare too. It's like with other guns, sure they are more or less available, but it's much harder to find ammunition for them. Well, SKS being the exception, plenty of ammo for it in tents and barracks. To your second point, I find the Red 9 as a real museum piece, so I don't know about that yet, can be a cool addition nevertheless. BUT! The Skorpion I've definitely waited since I started to play. It could eliminate need for both pistol and heavier short distance weapon like SMG/shotgun, so it could save some inventory space to have it. Also I really loved the Skorpion when tried in rl, it handled well even I shot bursts with one hand. It's like Ford Focus, you don't expect much y seeing one, but after driving it you realize it's really a good car. So I'm pretty fuken hyped to have the Skorpion in Dayz :D

I haven't created stashes or camps much previously, so I have few questions about persistence and storing items. 1. Ammo boxes and protector cases seem to work as a storage items, do they last 45 days too, like tents and barrels? 2. I play in six or seven private servers, which are full at most times. I saw some oil barrels etc. still couple weeks ago, but now that I actually want to find storage items I've spent a lot of time looking, and they seem to have vanished. Are there any new tents and barrels spawning at all? 3. How can I tell if the server I'm in has persistence, if it's not mentioned in title or admin messages? 4. Just to have the experience I've been setting up stashes in a public server. The other day I found couple of tents someone had set up previously, one was empty and in the middle of the road, and the other one in some hillside with few items inside. I couldn't roll up either one, I couldn't even get the command in menu. What's up with that? Thanks in advance
-
I don't know if this makes me lucky or unlucky, but seen two in 700 hours, and one of them in a server which wipes tents.
-
I think I lost two stashes I tried to set up during the weekend to a public server, but my character is okay. On my way to check the third big one, which I created last week. Not happy if that one is gone too.
-
Thanks for the tip! Both tents showed completely empty, I also emptied the one which initially had items inside, and spent time trying to figure out what's wrong - so most likely there were some invisible items inside as you suggest. Hopefully I'll figure out what to do with invisible items next time I come across a tent. Maybe I will, since I already figured out how to put attachments like bipods to AKs.
-
Did anyone else loose their stash/camp? At least I'm missing one with a barrel & 3 protective cases.

According to Harton's tweet 30 minutes ago it should be okay now

One way which has worked for me is to keep walking in crouched position against the wall, then pause for a second, and start to walk again. Try it few times, if no luck then try another wall etc. but it should get you free. edit: Oh yeah a buddy recommended this, keep walking either standing or crouched against the wall, and hit prone. You might want to try it also with pausing sometimes, if it won't work at first.

Hey bro I respect your style, but since you have some reservations about mine, I'll tell you exactly why all this crap is needed ))) So, I don't role play as such, but it's easily boring to do the same thing over and over, so I play these different self given missions. For example in one server I mainly stay solo, neutral and just observe, for example if I hear a firefight, I sneak to as close as I can, just to have a look without taking any real part in the action. Of course I'll drop rags to a bleeding fresh spawn etc. but generally avoid shooting. And sometimes, with luck, I spot a group who are on their way to inland, and then I just follow them around the map. It may sound weird, but why I like it, is because since I did my service I've thought reconnaissance is pretty much the coolest thing you can do in the army. Traditionally those guys really take risks and use their heads, they follow and observe the enemy troops much larger than their few men squads, try to remain hidden from hostile eyes and avoid direct confrontation since obviously they are nearer to enemy concentrations than their own. I don't think there are other games which you could play these missions, after all the whole Chernarus can be described as potentially hostile area. Why I carry water is in these follow & observe missions I can't exactly go to a well whenever I like without loosing the track or without getting into a firefight. Same thing with food. The risk of being spotted grows all the time and if you are spotted, as you can imagine there's not always time or space for a friendly chat. When compromized, I only take an aimed shot if the other guy is really near trying to kill me, but, as a rule I just fire back to supress so I will have a better chance to flee, without like four guys who suddenly are aware of my presence freely chasing me guns blazing. I also really hate situations when I can't return fire, with my nature it's easier to be flexible than passive. This is also the reason I don't like to surrender easily. I suspect, that if you drop all your weapons and do whatever they say, there's like a 80% chance to get killed anyway. Having different weapons serves more than one or two purpose. It's faster to run with a pistol than a rifle, but firing with two big guns might make them think there are more than just one guy, and I've seen a group taking a hike immediately when I changed location and started using a Mosin after initial shotgun shots I just took to keep the nearest away. While withdrawing, firing and changing location is often the key, and you can't exactly do that if your leg is shot, nor have time to start chopping sticks - so therefore the splint/morphine. And two sets of rags, as I keep other set in pants - as six rags can be all ruined by the same shot which can break your leg. Although it's fun to sneak close enough to hear them speak if they're not in TS etc. but all and all, if I play missions like these I like to have a healthy distance, stay on top of things and try to be one step ahead. Of course things don't go my way most of the time. Like I get cold or drenched and need to make a fire, while the group is leaving for the next place. But basically I like to carry some stuff to not get into a firefight and the other stuff to survive the firefight. I still don't survive as much as would like to, but at times I've managed to kept myself unnoticed for a long time, and got out of nasty situations intact or just wounded but alive. BTW after telling all this, do I need to tell why I prefer green/military/camo clothing even when it's not raining? )))
