Well for spawning i would say give different spawn storylines Crash boat (current) nothing on you at all Hiding in house with lots of food + water but only 1 gun and 1 clip Lost in the middle of no where with a shotgun Boxed in your apartment with no food but a decent weapon + ammo (fight ur way out) Maybe allow for half health spawns, or injured player spawns, give each type of player a goal such as gaining ammo for your gun, fixing ur busted leg etc. Even allow for people to spawn next to each other with no weapons (you choose this option) or gear, and the people must work together, i.e 1 agros the zeds and the other runs in and clears the town of loot. Just ideas but i do like the idea of having an option to how i start the game based on skill level and preference. Each one can give a different approach for each type of player, myself i would like the shotgun in a field (farmer on the run) :P
