Well now it's just a matter of the server being down. That's not against TOS.
-
By the way. I like this guy's post. We haven't been on the server in a few days. More admins in control should be a thing I'll suggest to Vaq when he ever comes on.

It is of my personal opinion that the treatment of server operators is pretty questionable. I know a semi-large community that wanted to hold a DayZ server but held back because of the high system requirements and the restrictive means to operate a server. I have never seen a game (or a mod) punish server operators for trying to make it a nice place to play. Banning hackers shouldn't require so much evidence to prove that it's a hacker. By the way, I used to be a demi-mod for a Minecraft server and sometimes we don't even need evidence if we know for a fact who did it. It's just a formality thing to prove that we don't abuse power for no reason. Hell, almost all servers in gaming today don't even do that. Because I believe that the game developers shouldn't control what goes on in servers. I'm not saying I don't support the whole blacklisting process. It lets players know what servers are suitable and ones that have a bad rep (Abusive admins) and I think that players playing on a blacklisted server shouldn't have their progress saved on other servers. Just in case it's a hacking server or a private one. Just that one server. I do however, want the servers to be much less restrictive. I mean it when I say I have never seen a Dev Team take so much control of the servers. The community should be the ones shaping the server community. Hell, they could probably use this forum to tell newcomers what servers to avoid. By the way, I think locked servers should be allowed for large groups who want a server to themselves. Just have it be so the locked servers have their own save data and that public servers have their own. Everyone wins. Just my two cents.
-
Yeah. The server has been down for a long time. We don't support that just so everyone knows. We don't like having the server down for this long. We want to play on it too.
-
Good plan...Multiple admins at different time zones would be good. I will push for that to the admin later on.
-
We've been wanting to get on all day man. I've been in teamspeak for awhile waiting for the server to get back up. If this game gets better anti-hacking measures than this is a problem I would love to get rid of. I actually like playing at dark so I'm disappointed that the server is off when the admin leaves. Still am defending the reasoning for it though.
-
No man. We love raiders. It's exciting. Come by and fight us and we'll prove you wrong. If you ghost however...That's a different story.
-
Fuck this. There's no reasoning with you.
-
The hackers usually come on and Thunderdome the shit out of us. Do you expect us to just sit there and die over and over again and not restart because of that reasoning?
-
You need to read that screenshot again. Ravin never said anything about taking servers down online to stop hackers. He asked about taking it down to stop Bandits. Big difference. Also, we can easily protect our server with the members on at night. It's when the admin is off. The server is advertised on the front page of Survivor HQ by the way. Most hackers see that thread and go, "Big Green Mountain camp with ton of loot these guys have...SCORE! THIS SERVER IS GOING DOWN!" Hackers have been coming in on the server because a camp is advertised on there. It's a prime target. It's the reason that the other servers Vaq's other servers aren't targeted as much. It's a lower chance to be targeted since there's so many servers, but a server advertised to have a big camp (Multiple actually, other players have camps too. So this protects their stuff as well) is like a fucking steak to hackers.
-
Name who gets an advantage? GMS? Everyone who has stuff on our server benefits. We've had Hackers come in and just literally wipe everyone's equipment and teleport them all over the map? Do you think it's preferable to let them run rampant and deal with it? Seriously. You have no basis for your argument. If you want to raid our camp, raid our server when it's up then. You going to the Dev Team and saying we shut down the server for something we don't do is lying.
-
Wrong. You are completely changing the content of the message. Ravin said, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't shut a server down to prevent people from looting your camp right?" He never said anything about the admin being off. Don't try to lie to me.
-
Ravin you realize that we don't lock the server down for bandits right? The majority of us actually want to be on when the server is shut down and we are perfectly well equipped enough to take down a few bandits. There is certainly enough members to take protect the place 24/7. The reason the server is shut down is due to hackers and to prevent serious lag. If we have no admins on and in the middle of the night hackers came in, terrorized the server and made everyone including non-GMS members lose equipment or spawn as animals or something, everyone would be asking for anti-hacking measures. Unfortunately, there are very little ways to protect against hackers. We get hacker attempts regularly and the admins are on to shut the server down and find out the hacker's accounts. Everyone on the server would be fucked otherwise. So yeah. We don't lock the server to protect our loot when we have people perfectly willing to protect it. You need to come up with proof that it's the only reason we lock the server down. This will probably last until the Dev team comes up with good anti-hacking measures. So I'm gonna send my own message to the Dev Team. Again, there's NO TOS rule that says the server has to be up 24/7 regardless of costs and consequences.

Doesn't that prove you were in the server? I never recall shutting down a server when we're shot at. Only against hackers is that the case. -

servebotfrank replied to a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We lock down the server not to protect our loot. Most members are perfectly willing to stay on and protect the camp. The problem is that the admins of the server usually get off and go to bed at the same time. If we leave the server on while they're gone and hackers come in than the server is fucked. I've been here for a short while but we've already gotten a few hacker attempts and they were stopped because admins were on to shut the server down. If it's left on in the night and hackers come in and terrorize it than there is not much that can be done. We don't lock to protect our loot. Hell, we enjoy legitimate raids on our camp. If we were that die hard to protect our loot than we would just insta-kill bandits. Which we don't. -

]Name:Frank Age:16 Location: Alaska Timezone:AKST Do you meet all the requirements? If not which ones are you missing and why: I fulfill all the requirements. Teamspeak name is the same as my ingame name. In game name:Servebotfrank Steam Id:Gateott Desired combat role (Medic, sniper, exc):Scavenger though I can adapt to most any given situation quickly Why you would like to join (Going to need to do better than simply ‘lookin 4 group’) : I would like to join because I have been a lone wolf for quite some time now. It would be nice to have some people watching my back for a change and not having to worry about being betrayed. Building a community in a game where civilization is shattered sounds great. Just like what humans in the Walking Dead go through day after day. What can you offer to the clan: I have plenty of food and I'm really efficient at getting in towns and out quick and without being spotted. I only take what's needed and try not to get greedy and attempt to take everything in a town even when the odds are stacked against me. I avoid popular loot areas though I am not afraid to occasionally loot those areas. I share and am friendly with other survivors. Probably my big weakness is that I'm really trusting. That has been my downfall on numerous occasions. -

put log out timer and make guns do less damage to players
servebotfrank replied to slugsmoneygirls's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Log out timers are not good ideas. Maybe five seconds but not for 30 seconds. That's ridiculous. If I log out somewhere for legitimate reasons and come back to find my character dead because I can't defend myself I would be mad. It punishes honest players as much as exploiters and that's not what you should be going for. -
Why is this advertised as a Zombie game?
servebotfrank replied to SolarClipz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Love how everybody jumps down this dude's throat because he's frustrated. OT:The other players are your major threats. You will find friendly players sometimes and you may find bandits sometimes. Just depends on your luck. If you have to go to popular loot areas, get what you need, then get out fast. Don't linger. Get some friends together as well. Bandits are less willing to rob you if you have a bunch of friends with you. -
Not really sure how I feel about the respawn button being disabled. Sure people use to get to a spot that their friends have but if say I get injured in the middle of nowhere (say I break my legs) then I'm stuck there and can't do anything. I have to either wait for a player to come by and shoot me or crawl to a zombie infested area and start attracting them to me. It's also a good button for in case someone glitches out and has to die. Just saying that removing that may cause more problems. That's my two cents on the subject.

An all-round solution to alt-F4 & server hopping
servebotfrank replied to chaR's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't really like some of these solutions that much. They kinda just punish legitimate players rather than the people who should suffer. Case in point: The delay for logging out is too long. If I log out in a forest and then a minute later another player runs by and shoots me and I have no idea I was shot until I logged in I would be pissed. With the timer on logging out in a server idea, there are many legitimate reasons to leave a server and go on a different one. Maybe the current server is really laggy (Regardless of connection) or you and your friends are just trying out servers looking for one suitable for you all. Also the logout delay punishes real players more since let's say hypothetically they are in a city and they have to get off for some reason or another then they are punished with a giant timer that will kill a character they might've worked on getting the equipment for.
