    Better Gathering

    +Beans, gimme dat system!

Apartments are very inconvenient places to loot.

Perhaps the new renderer + optimisation will make this possible in the future. I skip apartment buildings and most times the major cities all together.
  4. +Beans, player deaths should result in rotting corpses!

    starvation and dehydration ridiculously unrealistic

First stop comparing your DayZ experiences to real life. If you do, realize that in Dayz Metabolism and (hopefully one day) Day/Night cycles are accelerated in DayZ. This is the reason you can sprint for X amount of time in RL but in DayZ you are winded/thirsty afterwards. As far as starving quickly, I personally have not experienced this. This could be due to many factors some you can control, others are controlled by the server. 1 - I almost always jog and always under the shade of the trees. Even if you are only partially shaded as you run it will keep your core temp down slowing the rate of energy consumption. 2 - Every so often I will stop at an apple tree or a berry bush (if it's in the shade) and try to forage 2-4 times. This gives you a rest and brings your core temp down. Berries and especially apples both hydrate as well as give you some calories. 3 - Almost never sprint. The exceptions are when running from a zed/player, or when crossing an open field (which I dont recommend). 4 - When a fresh spawn, if at all possible, hold off on opening cans until you get a pristine knife or better yet a can opener (I know this is not always possible). Eat any cereal/rice/tuna first. 5 - Let water dictate your movements. I move from one water pump to the next looting as I go. Keep 2-3 canteen/water bottles filled with you to get you by as you move between water pumps. 6 - Especially in .55, AVOID BIG CITIES! If while picking berries/apples you get the message "You are slowly cooling down". Take 5 and relax in the shade to bring your core temp down (assuming it is a 24/7 Day & Summer server which most are). When you no longer see the message, you are back on the road, or you can leave sooner. But I suggest taking 5. Moving this way I am almost always hydrated, energized and healthy (after the freshspawn stage ofcourse). I have all the max capacity gear (high cap vest, m65, hunter backpack, x4 protective case & first aid) with only 2 open slots, in case i find something shiny. Luck is a factor but if you stick to the small outlying towns you should bd fine. Good luck.

Some thoughts from a new player

A few things to help you out spittle8. .. Many people find door to door looting very repetitive, which leads many to PvP. I suggest find a more populated server as player interactions are key to breaking that monotony. You can garden? Hunting for food is also an option and can be rewarding.Although I have logged about 5 hours hunting far from major cities always creeping and haven't seen a single animal yet. Most do, I just have terrible luck. The zombies recently got an overhaul and can be a bit buggy. Avoid if possible, melee can be dangerous even for experienced survivors. To be honest you have come back at a seemingly exciting time. The future updates, like .55, will be changing and adding much needed core features. Stick around for another update or two. Then decide, good luck.

    Persistance?

Hoping the Persistence gets ironed out soon. I had to leave some food behind yesterday...inventory and stomach full :(

Can you still dig up cooking pots?

You should be able to eat worms but I don't think you can. Confirmation?

Can you still dig up cooking pots?

What is this Animal Crossing? I'm going to find a shovel!

    Accelerated Time Fragnet Servers

Very cool Vattenlarv, nice in game indicator for server restarts.

What Type of DayZ Character are You?

    Survivor / Outdoorsman

    Accelerated Time Fragnet Servers

Thanks Ebrim, saw that post as well. I'm looking for a more permanent accelerated time server though. Tired of all the 24/7 DAY / SUMMER. I do love that we've had the opportunity for the weekend though! Helps me out a lot when planning my day of survival.

    Accelerated Time Fragnet Servers

Haven't found an accelerated time server yet. Looking for a public but will do private if I have too

45 ACP rounds far less common post .55?

Found a box in a tree stand. Not many hours logged since .55 though.
  15. 8bit_Survivor

    I don't understand

Plenty of people, including the devs, have said this but some still don't get it...so here it is again. DayZ is NOT a PvP but a SURVIVAL game. Is there some PvP in it? Ofcourse! But that is and will not be the games focus. It was only PvP focused earlier due to testing focus and player choices. Devs also don't care much what YOU want the game to be. They are making the game THEY want to make and allowing us 'some' input. These were not my opinions, it's what the devs have said. To anyone using the term 'farm simulator'...I have survived without farming a single thing. This is also not a constructive comment in anyway, only shows ignorance.

In regards to .55 and a helpful hint

Zeds should be almost impossible for a fresh spawn to deal with. Otherwise they are no threat at all to a moderately geared player.
  17. 8bit_Survivor

To those who enjoy seeing more zombies

Yeah its a pain, this will be fixed hopefully no later than .56. I also don't want zombies over every square inch. I think having random/wander pockets of high concentration would be cool.

Tents have now become more important than ever

Lost tent after server restart last night.
  19. Weapon locations are correct, nothing was said of their spawn frequency...unless I missed that part.

Players bodies use energy too fast

Not sure if sprinting/jogging/walking changes your energy consumption. If not I'm sure it is something that will be implemented in the future. Walking seemed to slow down the need for water but jogging/sprinting seemed to make no difference. This is unconfirmed.

    Starving

You can in fact go quite a ling time without food so yes. Starvation should be, and most likely will be in the future, lengthened. Water on the other hand, you can dehydrate rather quickly. I find in game that I have to drink much more than eat though. It may also have to do with what it is youre eating.
  22. 8bit_Survivor

    Time to eat?

Well done, after about 4 hours of hunting in the NW of the map (always near deer stands/farms) I have yet to find an animal... Always crouch walking or walking, apparently they smell me coming :(

    More server admin shenanigans?

I'm not sure if this an admin controlled kick but it seems like it may be. If your name is simply Mookie. Server farming / admin abuse is a tricky subject. They do pay for their servers that's true but that shouldn't put players who don't at a disadvantage should it? After all, players pay for the game right? A certain gameplay experience needs to be ensured even if certain elements will change between servers due to admin rights (which is expected). I'll be curious to see how admin rights and setting options progress in the future.

75 round drum mag removed from game

Not what he said, he said they were also removed from inventory...
  25. Starting this topic to discuss the impact 3rd party comms such as TS3 have in Day Z. I would like if we could focus the discussion into the following key areas of concern: Atmosphere, Player Interactions (PvP/Social) and Game Mechanics. Atmosphere - How does this affect the overall feel of DayZ? - Hearing the muffled or distant voices of players interacting (using in-game comms) within the world would be the biggest atmospheric impact. Hearing these interactions adds to the ambience of cities. Player Interactions (PVP/Social) - How does this affect how players interact within the game itself? - Hearing the muffled or distant voices of other players interacting (using in-game comms) is also used as a vital tool to keep you safe within the world of Day Z. Or allow you to bandit more effectively. - Players can share information freely without being heard by nearby players and giving away their position. This clearly gives an advantage over players using the in-game comms. - Allows large groups to be spread throughout a city while still remaining in contact as if they were right next to one another again giving a clear advantage. - After death a player can still relay information to their group! ("He has a blue pack, carrying an SKS with black pants. He was moving south behind the police station!") That lone survivor may have been able to take out an the entire group were it not for the use of 3rd party comms. - Takes away the ability to eavesdrop on player conversations which could possibly reveal important information on other players locations, player intentions or locations of loot/equipment. As well as just having the fun of listening in on others conversations for the heck of it. Game Mechanics - What affects does this have on the established/future game mechanics put in place? - Renders the Walkie-Talkie pointless. This very cool item/mechanic would be invaluable were it not for the use of 3rd party comms used by many/most group oriented players. - Allows player interaction without alerting zombies/wildlife. Under minding, at least some aspects, the stealth system currently being implemented. Sorry if this seems like a purely negative post to those who use 3rd party comms. That was not my intention! I simply could not think of any pros to players in Day Z using 3rd party comms. Unfortunately I do not see any way to stop this either. I am of course open to what others might think and would like to hear both pro's and cons from my fellow survivors!
