...this is why I am not looking forward to modding. I dont want the challenge that will some day be DayZ to be lost under the weight of easy mode mods as has happenned in the past. Understand I am not anti-MOD, the first MODs I created were for DOOM through the WAD Editor so I have been exposed to MOD movement for quite some time. I just think a game should have a chance to stretch it's legs before the community is allowed to gut it. Also, requesting MOD support before the game is out of Alpha is rather arrogant of the community.

Rare in my experience to see anyone outside of Cherno/Elektro/Berezino on public servers...I cooked some deer steaks in the middle of NW on a 40/40 server.

What is it that drives you to play DayZ a lot?
8bit_Survivor replied to doctorbadsign's topic in New Player Discussion
To keep things interesting I try and limit my kit. By this I mean every survivor I start will be of a certain playstyle. A cowboy with a repeater/magnum only,a city civilian with only a pistol grip shotgun. I also limit the major equipment like backpack, pant, shoes, etc. I make sure they are all things that fit the character. This is much more interesting and challenging than...Got to VMC/NW get military gear + automatic rifle. Helps keep it fresh for me. -

Almost had Tweedle Dee and Tweed Dum. Thanks for sharing! GG -
Ok, I'm sold on the idea. The wider view is to simulate peripheral vision while the zoom is to help you focus. While you don't have 'zoom' in real life your brain does have the ability to discard information from your peripheral vision in order to achieve greater focus and detail from a desired area or target. I was kind of on the fence before but I think I'm sold on the concept now. Perhaps the zoom was a bit drastic prior but removing it all together is a bit much. Also the only arguments against seem to be 'it don't make sense' and 'my eye balls don't have zoom'. Not all that compelling when you read the arguments from those defending the game mechanic. As previously stated this is alpha. I say we flip all the game mechanics on their head at least once if for know other reason than to see what happens!

You can pretty regularly forage enough apples/berries to sustain yourself until you move inland. Major cities along the coast are almost always looted. That's where everyone starts as a fresh spawn. So trying to loot the major starting cities over and over is in fact a problem with how you play. Good luck survivor.

It doesn't rick. Just postulating on why it is there in the first place. I play with AA and Post. Love the blur on peripheral when running :)
-
My vote is for iron sights and character zoom should be the same. Or no zoom at all, although I think the zoom is to simulate you focusing on an area or specific target.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
8bit_Survivor replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
The difference in play between 3PP and 1PP is substantial.Evil Minion was not saying that 1PP would stop server hopping or combat logging. He was using them as examples that just because everyone can do it doesn't mean it is in the best interest of gameplay. -

Great post p4triot. You have some valid points conce ring differect modes for 1PP cameras. I don't see your FoV narrowing in 1PP though. That depends solely on you FoV slider setting I believe. Didn't they also fix the camera being at your neck level by situating it at your eye level in DayZ? -

Can't wait, also glad to see that /r/Dayz Underground is back up and running! -
A brutal and unforgiving survival simulator. The current 3PP camera gives situational awareness that is extremely unrealistic and changes the way the game is played, the way you react to situations and the overall immersion of the game. These are not my opinions, these are facts. A disembodied view of your survivor is not more immersive, you just prefer that view. If you want to see your character, open yiur invwntory. I am a 3PP player myself but you have to stop kidding yourself when it comes to WHY you play 3PP. You...WE play it because it give you additional situational awareness and lowers the stress experienced with 1PP. The 1PP camera is clunky? Don't be absurd, navigating confined spaces is so much easier in 1PP. I can't believe a previous poster put GTA V and DayZ in the same grouping earlier in this thread...it has made me rethink being a 3PP player. Then again if 1PP servers had more population I would most likely switch anyway. I think it would give the true survival horror feel and atmosphere they intend to deliver with DayZ. I just love player interaction too much to join low pop servers. I don't want 3PP to be removed but it needs to be changed.

As a 3PP player I have to say that I am not offended by this statement at all and find it to be a very accurate generalization when it comes to 3PP players reaction to 3PP removal discussions.People have a hard time looking at things objectively. This is alpha and I am approaching this experience with a 'what is best for the game' mindset...not 'what is best for me'. Which I think is why I am one of the few 3PP players that openly admit that the current 3PP camera is game breaking and 1PP just makes more sense. Also, I don't view 1PP as a FPS camera. I have played many games that are 1PP and not FPS. 1PP camera is used when devs are looking to fully immerse you in the world they have created. It is a camera perspective used in horror and simulation genres regularly. Of which DayZ is both. -
It is being changed more than slightly...thanks for visiting Chernarus. I would reccomend atleast giving it a chance. Who knows in time you may end up liking it even more than the current 3PP camera?!

8bit_Survivor replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Well said ColdAtrophy. I actually find I die much less on 3PP servers. 1PP servers require a skillset and state of alertness that is far more demanding and tactical. In 3PP I can pretty much zoom around holding shift and still keep a high degree of situational awareness by swinging my drone camera around. 1PP is where I go for a intense gaming experience, 3PP is much more casual/arcade/relaxing. -

This game prides itself on choices? It allows for multiple play styles sure but as stated by the devs each playstyle has its own unique risk/reward factors. Unlike 3PP which allows situational awareness and intel that has only reward without risk.I thought it was a "anti-game" that prides itself on being (or rather becoming) an unforgiving and brutal survival scenario where every choice you make has consequence(again unlike the situational awareness that 3PP provides, all reward no risk). Before you jump down my throat for being a 1PP whiner/purist I want you to know that I almost exclusively play on 3PP. Im just not delusional about how it is detrimental to what the devs said they wanted this game to be (see first sentence of this paragraph). In the end we are all survivalist gamers and you are all my brothers and sisters in that! Lets try and be on the same team, but its ok to see things differently. -
Admin is and will always be around. This issue comes hand in hand with allowing the players to have their own servers. It will never go away and is one of the reasons most persistent world/character games like DayZ dont do it (although ARK will also be using this model so expect the same issues there). The only answer is only having official servers. This however is a game design choice and is not going to change. You see admin abuse much less it seems on private hives but that is only my experience. I chuckle to myself when the suggestion to report comes up. I dont normally record all gameplay and often screenshots are not enough evidence. One of the most p8pular servers is known for admins kicking you if you kill them. (See Respawnonme's twitch for the VoD) Im sure there have been multiple reports but the are still up and running. With a constant 50 population and advertisements over server messages for their game servers, why would they do anything? Same goes for names like 'Mass Loot'. Providers just dont care...

I would agree with GTX 970. Great performance for the price and if you purchase one from MSI, EVGA, etc., it wil be overclocked for you. I have a GTX 760 which has done right by me as well but the 970 should remain a viable gpu for much longer. Used HWMonitor recently and found mt GTX 760 was bottle necking a bit while playing DayZ. -

I would also laugh as I watched the outrage. I primarily play on 3PP, but I would still play and simply adjust if it was taken away. In the end 1PP is the perfect camera perspective for this type of game. 3PP seems to go against what I originally thought this game was setting out to be...an unforgiving and brutal survival anti-game. Even if 1PP was the original vision, I don't see BIS having the brass to take away 3PP at this point. -
To me it seems that in PvP scenario gaining the knowledge of what around the corner/over that wall should come at a price. The price is possibly giving away your position when you expose yourself. This new camera angle is a great compromise for those who want to see their survivor and those who want the risk/reward factor that we see throughout the game (i.e. drinking from ponds). I agree with the previous statements that the only players that will likely find problems with this will be those who wall peak with 3PP. I get it, it's much more stressful in 1PP, or when unable to safely hide yourself from harm while surveying your surroundings. But this game is meant to be stressful.

.56 patch coming anytime soon? Is this game progressing at an increasingly slower rate?

Last I saw stable would still have zombies removed but they would be put into experimental for testing. Did I miss something? -

Pilgrim and Sneaky Dude can we stay on topic? Thanks. This thread is making me notice and hate so many items around Chernarus :) -
/r/Dayzunderground is almost always close to the full 50. Although they are currently down for server hardware or some such. Should be back up soon, check out there reddit or steam community page. -UN- has a 1pp server that was high pop for awhile but has been struggling recently as well.
