  1. I am preparing this post for 3 days now looking if anything is mentioned already and refining my ideas, so please read it carefully. I know it is long, but it consitst mainly of images but nevertheless please read the image descripions. If you don't read it carefully, please don't even reply! And I know that some of these would require changes to the current inventory system. It is a common wish here on the forums to make your gear a mix of crafted/improvised and military gear to make for a cool and unique looking survivor. Something from Postman or Mad Max. (Full leather or full military outfit looks rather silly) Here are my suggestions and im pretty sure they weren't mentioned before. Of course all the leather itmems would have to look more crude than in these pictures and for all the stuff I mention here some pre-apocalyptic gear equivalents laying around in chernarus would be nice too, but not for all. It should force players to go hunting and crafting to get some of the cool stuff: Gun attachements:Butt Stock Leather Ammo Carriers which would fit on most rifles (one slot on the rilfe for emergency ammo if all your stuff gets ruined or ghillies who need all the storage space they can get). The focus here is on the butt stock, butt these is are some sweet looking SKS rifles. Rifle sling to alow you to carry a rifle on your back (different options: duct tape, rope, burlap, leather, rags) same for primary melee weapon; the sword is an exception. I'm NOT sure if this is too much realism for the comunity . Another solution would be if rifles randomly spawn with a sling. And a sling to carry a smg infront of your chest instead of a vest. This would be more realistc and cooler looking than carrying your backup MP5 in a high-cap vest. Backpacks:Yukon pack, larger than the improvised backpack and for some variety (crafted out of Tarp or burlap, rope and duct tape). Sheaths and holsters:There should be multiple ways to attach these to the character for greater individualization. Universal Leather pistol holster Leather and duct tape sheaths(Idea: carry gear visible on the outside; platecarrier holster was a good start)For knifes, machete, field shovel, hatchet and don't forget the sword; attacheble to your belt(Scout style carry for hidden knive), backpack, vest or like the chestholster. Remember: you need these tools for survival.Carrying them in Packpack without sheath shoud ruin the backpack Clothing:Reinforce clothing on knees elbows and shoulders with leather to protect you and make the clothing more durale. If you gear up with the best clothing, you wouldn't look as military, but more like survivor who has been out in the wildernes for quiet a while. I know that there is no leather in this picture, but imagine the black parts are leather. Leather Gaiters/shin protection ( additional protection from bear traps, broken legs, pants/shoes getting ruind and wet) Cooking:Cooking tripod/ pot hanger shloud be craftable. Improvised pot out of tin foil Cooking meat on a flat stone or on a sharpened stick

    Civilian semi-auto rifles

    For all you lazy people who won't read the whole post, this post is about the Ruger Mini-14 and Veper 5.45 Introduction I will refer alot in this post to what Chris Torchia wrote in the 23 Jun 2015 status report about guns in DayZ, so please read it first. So like the title says I would like to see at least one or two semi-auto civilian rifles more in the game. Currently there are only the SKS and Sporter .22 in this category. But if one takes the two sawn-off versions into account there are nine bolt action, single or double barrel rifles, which i think offers plenty of variety with single shot rifles. Now Chirs mentions several semi-auto rifles in the status report (various civilian AR15s, AR10s, AKs, tiger Rifles, SVT40s etc.), which are fine if you argue from a realism standpoint, but I think all of the examples mentioned above are problematic for gameplay. The two main points are: I think we can all agree that semi-auto .308 or 7.62x54r rifles should be verry rare and not spawn on the coast (like the SVD), but don't make much sense to spawn in military loctions either, so civilian AR10s, M1As, SVT40s and Tiger rifles can be canceled. Further more, if civilian AR15s or AKs would spawn in towns, mags for these guns also need to spawn there. The problem is that these mags are the same ones which the military versions of these rifles use. So if a decent amount of these mags are spawning in civilian areas, mags for assault rifles would be way to common. On the other hand, if the mags are rare nobody would bother searching for them and the guns would hardly be used or swapped out for the millitary verison as soon as you find it. This contradicts the Status report, where Chris says that the "expansion of the weapon set should occur with minimum expansion of calibers and attachments" but I think It would benefit the game if mags in this instance are an exception. Now that the introduction is out of the way and you understand my position I come to the fun part. Like I mentiond in the begining I sugesst the Ruger Mini-14 and Vepr 5.45, because they don't bringsaid problems with them. They both fire intermediate calibers (5.56 and 5.45) and both use their own mags which aren't compatible with M4 or AK74. Lets look into the guns in a little bit more detail: Mini-14 As you see there are many different stock options form classic wood to simple black polymer to a tacticool version with collapsible stock and pistol grip. I myself prefere the "All weather ranch rifle", just because of its stainles parts and the fact that there are plenty of wooden stock rifles in the game. The ranch rifle would also allow the hunting scope as an attachement, wich I favor over the M4 optics wich would fit on the tactical Mini-14. In terms of mags, ther are 10, 20 and 30rnd ones availible. IMO the 20rnd mags (like in the pic above) would fit best into the game because 10rnd mags would be rather unsatisfactory to search when you consider that the SKS can hold 10 more powerfull rounds without a mag. The 30rnd mag on the other hand might be a little bit OP. One minor point which I want to address too, is that basically the iron sights of all russian and civilian guns are notch sights that look very similar. The Mini-14 would bring some diversity into the sight pictures of DayZ rifles. Since the Mini-10 is around since the 70s and there is already a Ruger rifle in game (Sporter .22 aka Ruger 10/22) I dont see any objection why this rifle shouldn't be in game. Vepr 5.45 The Vepr would be an alternative for the " only russian guns" folks. It is based on a modified RPK reciver and is a AK style hunting/sporting rifle.(There are also versions of this gun in .308 and 7.62x54r but i won't pay any attentions to these.) It looks really cool but has several disatvantages compared to the Mini-14. At first it only has a russian sidemount for the attachment of optics which is kind of the same proble as with the AK mags mentioned before. Then there are only 5 and 10 rnd mags available which agian would be unsatisfactory to search.The Vepr can however be modified relatively easy to use AK74 mags wich could be a gameplay element. Conclusion These two guns would be great additions two the game and complete the class of intermediate caliber semi-auto civillian rifles with the more powerfull but lower capacity SKS which can oneshot players and zombies in some circumstaces on the one side of the spectrum, the less powerfull Vepr with the possibility for a 30rnd mag on the other and the Mini-14 in the middle.     DayZ on Windows 10

    Does anybody here know if DayZ will run on Windows 10? I know from other games, for example CS:GO that they run fine on the insider preview. If anybody here has experience with the game on the win10 insider preview I would appreciate it if you would share your knowlege because if it doesn't work I will wait with the update.

    Civilian semi-auto rifles

    The reason i think something like a SVT would be OP is because i have been using the mosin with PU for sinping lately and it's a beast up to 400m. The last time I killed more than a dozen people from the top of tripple yellow. The only limiting factors were that i only had 20 rounds when I started and missed a couple of moving targets. But most of the targets I killed( not just unconscious) with one hit. Imagine what a massacer it would have been if I had a SVT 40. The lesson learned here is: don't underestimate 7.52x54r rifles with PU scope just because the winchester with its fancy hunting scope are in game. I actually get more one shot sniping kills with the mosin than with the winchester in 0.57. Unfortunately i havn't found a SVD yet, but I have seen many vids in which the SVD dominates AKs and MP5s even in CQB.

But what really bothers me: how does he interact with other players in game when even if he has the time to prepare what he wants to write, it is barly understandable.

  8. Since 5.56 is the only rifle caliber in game without a bolt action rifle I thought it might be a good idea to add a rifle wich would fit this niche. But this rifle shouldn't simply be a different version of the ever so unpopular CR527 just in another caliber. For example a Remington 700 chambered in 5.56, but it should bring these features if it is added to the game: Internal mag, becaus searching for the CR527 mag is a pain in the ***Allow the bipod as an attachement (because everybody misses the bipod on the Mosin)Hunting or Long Range scope of coursemore accurate than M4, AUG and AK101Nato suppressor to set it appart form the other bolt guns in gamemaybe allow the M4 optics too How I see this gun being used: medium range sniping up to 500mtaking out zombies quietly from greater distances, since you probably won't waste your precious SP-6 rounds for that and the sub guns and sporter lack the rangeUrban sniping, because you don't attract as much attention with the suppressorAn alternative for the 5.56 assault rifles, if you plan for long range engagements I know with the 0.56 update there will be a whole lot of new guns and there probaply won't be any guns in the next few updates because there is a ton of other stuff that needs to be adressed, so no need to hurry with this.     Crafting Vests

    I just tought it would be a nice idea to be able to craft civilian vests by cutting off the sleeves of jackets and shirts to wear them as a vest. Here are some examples whiche would make the most sense in my opinon: Riders jacket for extra protecionQuilted and down jacket for extra insulation (when Namalsk is coming) since you can't wear multiple layers of clothing Aside form that, all vests crafted this way would give you a little more protektion and storage space than wearing no vest. To make the crafting not too easy since you can get a stone knive almost everywhere, I suggest that the item becomes damaged when you cut the sleeves of, so you have to patch it up again with a sewing kit. Some other advantages would be greater player customisation, more clothing options, more uses for knives and players would more like a survivor . What do you guys think of this?

I thoght anybody would experience this bug, but I recently realized that I'm the only one among my friends who has this problem: The weird thing is this only happens with gun attachments/mags and the only thing that you can see is inspect. Unfortunately I don't have a gun with more attachemnts because the bug would be more visible. For example, when I have an AK with 4 or 5 attachements and I rightclick on it, the black options box opens and I can select which attachment I want to remove from the gun but I don't know what because there is no text other than Inspect displayed. In my screenshots there is only one attachment on each gun, but you get the problem. It isn't a major bug, but it's annoying sometimes so if anybody knows how to fix this, I would really appreciate it.

    Equipment belts

    The reason I made this post is because it bothers me a lot that every geared player has a (military) vest. The problem is they all look verry similar and since they cover a big part of a players body, geared players look verry similar. To overcome this problem and to get some variety, I suggest some equipment belts which would act as vests in the current inventory system and may even be carried with a vest in the future. Here is a list of examples that came to my mind: Modern military belt (War belt)Old WW2 militay beltPolice beltCraftsman tool beltHunting beltMedic belt(The last 3 would be great for RP) I know Pistol holsters and knife sheats have been suggessted many times befor, but my idea is different and more specific so let me explain it: The idea is that a belt (depending on the type) would have holsters which can only carry a pistol or a knive and a few normal slots for storing any kind of gear. This would make them superior to the chesthloster and even equal to some military vests. The downside would be that they are less versatile. To make this more clear I will now describe each of my examples in detail: Modern military belt (War belt) Features: Pistol holster and knive sheath (both for any handgun/knife)4 or 5 storage slots arranged like the riders jacket (so you cant carry bulky items)The total storage space if you take holster and sheath into accout would be 10 or 11 slots, not bad, eh? Features: 12 to 16 inventory slots, but only for medical itemsno first aid kits inside the beltmaybe protection from KOS if you carry this instead of a military vest together with the full medic outfit.Spawn: Medical I think these would be a great additon to the game because of all the reasons mentioned above and one other reason: You would see more all the nice clothing nice clothing if it isn't covered by a vest.     You're right about the weapon storage, but this is the apocalypes. It is verry likely that the soldiers have fought the infeted and were overrun.The poor guys were killed or turned into infected themselfs leaving their guns behind were they died. It is also likely they armed every civilan they could to fight the infection so there would be no guns left in the vaults.     Idea about landmines

    One purpos would be to secure paths where somebody might creep up on you when you are in a fixed position. For example setting up a mine at the end of the ladder of tripple yellow so you don't have to worry about anybody coming up to harrass you while you're sniping bambis. I think this is what they were implemented for since you would need lots of mines to secure an entire camp. To make it clear: I don't think this is a good purpose, but anybody can play the game how they want, as long as they aren't hackers or abusing glitches. But in the end they are just another way to KOS, but the possibility of you stepping on a mine are way smaller then getting shot by someone who spots you before you spot him.

As you might know the Kashtan C-1 scope W.I.P model was recently shown: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/224053-trello-chris-kashtan-c-1-preview/ In the same post it is stated that due to ballistics issues the VSS Vintorez and SVD sniper rifles will spawn with the PSO-1 scope attached. My question to the devs: Will we be able to use the iron sights of these rifles like co wittnessing them with the scope attached or detach the scope?

    Yes and if you think about it, the new sniper rifles are pretty strong even without scopes. I mean the SVD is basicly like if the SKS would shoot 7.62x54r. If you can kill peole with a Mosin or SKS, you can definitivly kill people with a SVD or VSS, with or without scope. And IMO it wouldn't hurt the game if you have to do some searching if you want a semi-auto sniper.
