More vegetation in city's, warning announcement, roads
OnionOfShame replied to aldink's topic in Suggestions
I know that the heli crashes weren't necessarily there already when day zero occured. But if we go by your idea of it being 3-5 years since day zero, it seems like a bit of a plot hole. If it's been that long then the only reason NATO forces would be there is to try to clean up/recover the area, but 1-3 helicopters for the entire country would not be enough to do anything. Shouldn't there be more? -
More vegetation in city's, warning announcement, roads
OnionOfShame replied to aldink's topic in Suggestions
All of the pieces of evidence regarding the game's timeline seem to contradict each other. Many of the buildings look like they're well maintained (except the occasional bloodstain) which indicates that it hasn't been very long, and the NATO heli crashes are still smoking so they must be fairly recent. But then there's all the vehicles, every single looks like it was shot with a grenade launcher or two and left to decay for a few years. I've heard that the intended timeline is only a few weeks/months after day zero though. -
Herbalism in DayZ - Complete Herbs and Medicinal Plants List
OnionOfShame replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in Suggestions
It is actually in the files. There is a model and texture for the seed package and for the plant itself, but I don't know how long it'll be before it's actually implemented. -
I post here while high all the time but my sentences are at least somewhat coherent...

polish up the main menu, menus, and UI a bit?
OnionOfShame replied to d.walker43's topic in Suggestions
I personally like the menu and UI styles as they are, generally minimalistic and simple. I think the main menu (the wind/ambient "whooshing" sound and seeing your character) is meant to reflect the nature of the game (i.e. gives a solitary feeling), but I suppose it could change. If they were to change the main menu design they could add music, but I'd recommend a slideshow of the players screenshots or something over random clips from in the game. To remind you of old memories and all. The only major issue I see with the menu UI right now is the server browser filtering. I can choose to filter by a trait that isn't even in this game (the "Mission" field in the filter), but not by things like public vs. private and 3PP vs. 1PP? -
Sorry, wrong game.

1. Nope. Eventually you'll be able to modify your Mosin to take different scopes, though. 2. No shit...at least give ideas, we all know that the optimization is shitty, pointing it out again does nothing. 3. No. It's rare because it's very good. There's a reason M4's are rare. Additionally the M70 wouldn't actually be super-common in this setting. 4. Should be very rare, but possible (and eventually I'm pretty sure it will be). 5. This isn't even a suggestion...? 6. I'd like to see this too, low priority though in my opinion. 7. This is coming eventually.
-
That's called private servers and they're already implemented. The increase in server capacity is also coming, eventually.
-
We can already do that. With the useful helmets (Ballistic, Gorka, Motorbike, Pilot) anyways. I'm sure painting the others will come with the dynamic coloring system eventually.

This isn't youtube, no need to make the title all caps and obnoxious. On topic, I'm fairly sure this has been suggested before.
-
Yes it does. That's like saying game mechanics have nothing to do with how people play the game. Different coding means that modding works differently. It would be counter-productive to start allowing modding support before the infrastructure is finalized.

I agree that the size of DayZ's map should be expanded. In my opinion the best option would be to expand what we have to the west and south, making a map roughly four times the size of what we have now. There is a world outside of South Zagoria, and we could definitely play on parts of it. A youtuber by the name of Credidred made a video explaining this idea in much greater detail... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s8-JNiKoaDs

Not sure why, from a realistic or gameplay perspective, zombies would be made more weak to melee and more resistant to bullets...
-
I too would like to see a shopping mall. The more unique and realistic locations the better! Although I'm not sure if a shopping mall would fit perfectly well in the setting...

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
OnionOfShame replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
I know that there are many valid arguments for and against the inclusion of very heavy/high-powered weapons in DayZ Standalone. However, I believe that the inclusion of this one would be completely balanced and logical for the game. PTRS-41 The PTRS-41 is a Soviet anti-tank rifle chambered in the massively powerful 14.5x114mm round (side note: many vehicle-mounted guns such as the KPV machine gun also use this round). It is a semi-automatic version of the bolt-action PTRD anti-tank rifle. By default the weapon only has iron sights but one can find and attach a scope. The rifle is extremely powerful, being designed to punch holes through heavy 40mm-thick armor at 100 meters. It can be used as a sniper rifle against infantry to devastating effect, however due to several drawbacks it cannot replace one's standard sniper rifle. The rifle itself weighs a monstrous 50 pounds, nearly twice the weight of any other small-arms weapon considered for DayZ (for recerence, the AKM weighs about 7 pounds fully loaded), and has a length of just over two meters. These factors (as well as the high recoil) make it impossible to use effectively in close quarters, so if flanked a PTRS-user is effectively dead without a sidearm. Once a proper weight/stamina system is implemented the weapon's size will hinder movement and CQB even more, and even when it is put away on your back, to the point where some players may consider going without a backpack to conserve weight. The ammunition would also be fairly rare for this weapon and it should not be very economical to carry (thinking 10-round stack size), meaning that using the PTRS-41 as a standard sniper rifle would be quite inefficient. The armor-piercing capabilities of this weapon mean that the main role of this weapon would be anti-vehicular fire and firing through multiple walls at a target. However due to the drawbacks only organized squads will be able to make effective use of it. I'd like to see this make it into the game as well. There's actually evidence in-game that Chernarus does have carnivals (see the descriptions of the Payday masks), so it would definitely fit into the story.
-
I too would like to see this in the game. It's something that the vast majority of games don't seem to have, but a few games do (Dark Souls is one notable example) and it's one of those tiny details that really adds to the immersion. I'm not sure how difficult something like this is to program so I wouldn't put it high on the list, but it would definitely be nice.

I agree with you and I'm the same way, usually I like using civilian guns more than military ones. But there aren't dedicated places for civilian weapons to spawn, so ironically it's actually harder to look for a specific civilian firearm than a military one. There should definitely be gun shops and hunting lodges and whatnot, otherwise how did all these civilians get their guns and ammo (most of it anyways, of course some people might have an illegal handgun or something)?

Improvised camo backpack + color variations of the Plate carrier
OnionOfShame replied to jayfkay (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I'd love to see more coloring options as well. Most clothing (Improvised Backpack and Plate Carrier included) wouldpsu likely be colored through the dying system which is currently in progress (currently only t-shirts and armbands I believe, but it will be expanded further). It would be nice to have Plate carriers spawn in some different colors though. I'm not sure if this would be possible, but it would be pretty cool if the attachable pouches and holster could spawn with different color/camo variants as well. This way there would be more of a "rag-tag" look to many military players with mismatched colors and camo patterns, but if they want to go one step further they can dye all of the parts to have them match. -
Being able to switch through hotkeys with 2 primary weapons
OnionOfShame replied to KandyCid's topic in Suggestions
Ehh, maybe that could work. As long as it actually takes a significant amount of time to put it back together. You're not going to be able to just take all the parts of an M4A1 out of your backpack and slap them together in five seconds, even for experienced people it would likely take a few minutes to reassemble. -
I too would love to see musical instruments implemented into the game. There is the question of how playing would be handled though...Rust has an interesting way of handling this, basically left click is a single note, right click is a chord, and the angle at which the player is looking decides the pitch (i.e. looking straight up gives a very high note, straight down is a very low note). Personally I'd rather have some system that allows people who actually know how to play in real life to play actual songs, but I'm not sure if a system like this is actually possible with a keyboard. Other instruments might be easier to program...a simple percussion instrument (a drum, tambourine, cowbell, etc.) would only require a few buttons to be played, and we'really already using a keyboard so I think a piano may be simple to control (and they're plentiful too, one in every piano house right now).

New reload mechanic for bolt-action rifles with scopes
OnionOfShame replied to slizzedy's topic in Suggestions
I think you may have misunderstood Hasi's suggestion. The player would hold the left mouse button (which has no effect on aiming) down after firing to delay the bolting action. The right mouse button would not actually be involved in this, as it only affects ADS status and zoom level. The bolting action can be delayed whether the player is aiming through the scope or not. -
My squadmate and I had to put down our double-carried Sporter .22 and Mosin 9130 to swim over to the prison island...this is the result.
