The false doors are a WIP, the dev team is working on making all buildings enterable gradually (for example the former Fake Barracks, Water Station, and Workstation just became enterable recently and I believe there are more on experimental. I agree with you on moving people out of cities, and mushrooms are confirmed to be coming eventually, most likely with a poisonous variant. I agree that wind would be nice, but in my opinion another level of gameplay complexity such as that would reduce the already-poor performance and just generally be more annoying than good with the performance/desync/lag issues the game has. It would be cool if the infected could smell, it would add another layer of tactics to zombie evasion. Bleeding would be a sure way to attract infected quickly, meaning that one must prioritize escape if they are to survive. That last one gives me another idea...what if we could cut ourselves (not suicidally...maybe somewhere on the arm) with knives in order to make ourselves bleed to attract zombies? Could be used to draw a horde in, or to distract them from your allies. More blood should attract them more, so one cut shouldn't make us bleed much, but we can cut multiple times if the smell isn't strong enough to attract the infected.

Why would someone make a trap like this? Waste of a good firearm. Other types of traps are just as effective (if not more so), but are much less wasteful and (in some cases) would be less difficult to conceal. Also this has been suggested before...

I agree, it's important that the infected have some way to reach players through closed doors. Perhaps they could simply push open (instant open) doors that are cracked open (currently only occurs if the door has been hit/shot, but could occur dynamically), but an actual closed door should take 2-3 minutes for them to break open. A locked door should take much longer, 10-15 minutes maybe. Multiple infected can group up and open a door faster, and perhaps we could block the door with objects or our own bodies to make it take longer. After a (random?) amount of time zombies should give up and go away if you make absolutely no sound and they cannot see you in a window.

Was expecting this to be a thread suggesting the addition of flip flops. Pleasantly surprised it wasn't.

Exactly. I can see why they wouldn't want to make it the size of a normal Pistol as that would make it fairly overpowered, but it's underpowered and unrealistic for it to take up 4x3 slots.

I'd like to be able to pour soda/beer into water bottles/canteens.
OnionOfShame replied to Connect3d's topic in Suggestions
From the perspective of realism it is important that we be able to reuse these containers, but having containers that readily available could adversely effect gameplay and balance overall. Empty soda and food cans realistically should be able to be used as containers...maybe to balance it out their capacities are not very high (mode so for soda) and depending on their conditions (and for food cans, the tool used to open them) they may not function properly or have their capacities reduced, possibly enough to make using them non-viable. Perhaps even program them to leak water over time if damaged? EDIT: I just realized what I posted doesn't really address your suggestion directly (I'm baked leave me alone), but I'm going to leave it here because it's tangentially related. On topic, yes, I agree that all liquids should be able to be stored in all containers. I can be a true Russian, and fill up a jerry can with vodka! ;) -
I agree, I'd love to see this in game. Now that the models/textures/particles are in-game for smoke grenades a part of the work is already done as well.

The Z actually doesn't stand for zombie. It stands for zero, making the name of the game Day Zero (i.e. the first day of your survival).
-
I agree that it should be very small, but I see their points for making it SMG-sized. Maybe make it something in between, like 3x2, 3x3, or 2x4?

The dev team has discussed creating additional maps and it will likely happen at some point. I doubt there will be a predominantly-urban map as you describe, given BI's tendency towards more rural, sparsely-populated settings (and besides, imagine the performance...you thought your frames in Chernogorsk were bad!). But of course modding is coming and some modder will inevitably make a more urban map. I'm not sure if it will be as varied as you describe here (as that may not be feasible) though.

Not really a suggestion, but good to know!

Yeahh, a halberd would be one of the least viable melee weapons in this setting. Personally I think the Machete would be one of the best realistically, but obviously in-game this isn't the case. Back to the OP, you know there's an entire thread (probably the longest thread on the suggestion forum) dedicated to weapon suggestions, right? And the Mk14 has been suggested several times on that thread and on other threads. And aside from that, the M14 EBR isn't even a real gun. But that's just me being a finicky gun nerd, I and probably mosy others can tell what you're talking about. But yeah, I'd like to see the Mk14 in DayZ as well. It could exist alongside the standard M14 (i.e. the older iconic one with the wooden body), and would of course have some interchangeable parts.

Already been suggested I believe, but yes, this is essential in any survival game where overheating is a concern.
-
You don't have to Google everything, you can remember or learn anything you really need to know. If you think games should be easy then you shouldn't be playing DayZ.On topic, I agree that the maps should be in the cyrillic alphabet.
-
I believe this was the reason they gave, however I don't think this was a good idea. Before most people would just kill themselves when they spawn up north, now nearly everyone seems to. If their intention was to make the northeast of the map almost completely empty, then I'd say they succeeded.

Should be able to go over everything except for helmets I think, maybe could even go over some like the hard hat.

Not sure where to even start with this reply? What would make the majority of women "a nuisance at best?" While there is a difference between the physical potentials of men and women, it's not nearly as wide a gap as you seem to think. The difference many people perceive is much more a result of societal expectations than actual biology. Women could perform just as well as men in the majority of situations, especially if everyone has guns. So what you're basically saying is, women in general are wholly unfit to survive in an anarchic situation, so they should all just try and look attractive so they can get lucky and maybe become a powerful man's sex slave? I'm sorry, but your views seem to be heavily skewed.

The sun will always rise properly in the east and set in the west. The behavior of the moon is correct as well. Clouds always move northwest in DayZ (right now anyways), so you can use this to navigate easily. I've never tried to navigate via constellations, so I couldn't comment on that. The constellations visible from Chernarus should be the same ones we see everywhere in the Northern hemisphere. There is a tide system, but no real wave system I am aware of. If there is, it's very minor. Visible and audible wave splashes on the shore would be nice.

You just get an M4A1 free, just for feeding a few bambis? You could easily get a few friends and just give them things to exploit the system and improve your karma artificially.

Nah. Right now all female models in game have short hair so there would be any hair to see flowing in the wind. If this is ever changed and it somehow becomes possible to have long hair, in my opinion it would be a huge waste programming the hair to flow in the wind realistically, and unrealistic flowing just looks bad all around. Not to mention the major disadvantages that can come with having long hair in a survival situation.

This weapon has been suggested many, many times, including in the weapon suggestion thread. Personally I think the SCAR-L would be a poor choice to add to DayZ as it uses 5.56x45 and is very similar in operation and characteristics to the M4A1, meaning that it would basically just be an alternate skin for the M4A1, i.e. a waste of resources IMO. On the other hand I'd really like to see the SCAR-H added as it fills a new role not filled by any others yet (select fire .308 assault rifle/battle rifle/carbine depending on the configuration), should be common according to the lore (if Operation Arrowhead is to be considered canon, which I think it should but I find many people disagree), and looks pretty badass (much cooler than the SCAR-L IMO).

Even if the in-game player list was removed, you could still look at the one in the Steam overlay.
-
Personally I like the lack of a tutorial. Too many games these days hold the player's hand, it's refreshing to me that DayZ doesn't.

I support all of these except the scope. A scope mounted with duct tape would be worthless for any shot past 10 meters at best.
