Hello all, I'd like to make something of a minor suggestion for a change to the action system in DayZ. As many of you know, the current system is being replaced with a system wherein one must hold down the action key to keep performing an action (eating food, skinning an animal/player, etc.). I personally like this idea, and would like an addition to it. By holding down the shift key (or some other key) we could speed up our actions. However the drawbacks of this would be the same as in real life. The chance of failing the action or screwing it up somehow is increased while we do this, and it makes more sound as well, having a chance to attract the infected. A character's skill in a specific field will also affect their chance to screw up. The failure penalties will also vary by action and in severity. For example if you mess up bandaging a wound you'll probably just have to try again, if you screw up loading a gun it will just take longer and in worse cases you may drop the ammunition, and if you screw up skinnning a corpse you will recieve less meat and have a chance to cut yourself by accident. As explained above, this system and the chances of failure will tie directly into the upcoming soft skill system.

The helicopters and police cars don't actually spawn on server resets now. Servers reset every 12 hours and dynamic events are changed every 4.

I know the painting system is going to be expanded but I'm not sure to what extent. Like I know color variants for vehicles are in so I'm sure eventually well be able to paint them, and I remember hearing that more paint colors are coming. Graffiti will likely come eventually as well, although I doubt we'll be able to paint on everything due to engine limitations.

Personally I'm running on windows 8. I hAve a friend who playS on windows 10 and I think this launch parameter crashes his game on startup, but I'm not quite sure that was the cause. I'd test it yourself to find out.

It's not just a backstory if you start with a gun. That gives you an advantage over anyone who chooses another spawn, so no one will ever choose anything buy soldier. You should be left to develop your own story, gear =/= story.

I agree, I've always wanted to see shemaghs in DayZ. It's such a versatile piece of clothing...you could wear it like a scarf over your chest, or over your lower face and chest, or as a bandana, or as a head wrap, or as a full head/face wrap...meaning that this one item is effectively 5+ items in one. We need more things like that in DayZ, with how loot works the more items they add the less likely you are to actually find an item you want. If one item can be used in five different ways it's more likely to be the item you want to find. Hopefully they make shemaghs craftable, by sewing some rags together and dying it.

Vepr 5,45: Cherno's Answer to a semi-auto 5,45

This has been suggested sooo many times before. While I agree that the brightness/gamma exploit negatively effects nighttime gameplay, I don't think that removing the brightness bar is the way to go. Some people need that due to issues with their monitors. One idea I have heard is to allow adjustment of the brightness and gamma from the menu but not while in the server, preventing one from adjusting it on the fly, but obviously this solution is far from perfect. There isn't really much that can be done, unfortunately.

It's the only way that I know of personally, but I'm sure there are other workarounds

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
OnionOfShame replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
In DayZ, contrary to popular conception 5.56x45 NATO rounds are MORE powerful than 7.62x39 rounds. This means that the 7615P would pretty much be objectively better than the CR527, except (possibly) in terms of weapon/attachment/ammunition rarity. -
What about the fact that the implementation of a system like this would completely screw up the game as it is intended? If you can choose to spawn inside a military base, do you think anyone will choose another spawn? No. We will have the same situation we have now, only the coastal PvP will migrate to military bases. There's no reason to go anywhere else for most people; it combines the high-end loot of military zones with the quick respawn and return of coastal cities. Which would completely negate the dynamic that the devs are trying to create. The reason we see this "cliche" of the same character all over the place in towns is because, in the current state of the game, many people seem to not play the game "correctly" (that is, the way the devs intend). Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the devs aren't trying to create a coastal death match simulator. They want people to move inland, to explore, to progress. The situation we have now is like if in some standard MMORPG, the majority of players opted to remain at a very low level in the starting areas and incessantly punch at each other rather than actually moving to the next zone, questing, and progressing through the game. I'm willing to bet that you wouldn't see all that much variety in a horde of level 1 players, and of course this is the case in DayZ, where many people choose to punch each other's brains out in the spawn areas rather than actually moving inland to progress. If more people tried to progress, we would see more variation. All of that being said, there are other things that could be done to fix the issue you mention without breaking the game. I do agree with you on the point that seeing groups of the same character all the time (Caucasian male, jeans and a plain t-shirt and sneakers) One change I would definitely support is more visual customization of the player's default freshspawn character. More clothing options, designs on the T-shirt, different pants, the ability to spawn with any hat (only ones which don't effect stats much, like the Beanie or Ushanka), more hair style/color and face customization options, facial hair, and skin features like scarring or tattoos.

Could you explain how this would improve the game as it is?

That's not the kind of game DayZ is. Honestly you would think people would stop suggesting shit like this after a while...

Do you mean windowed mode breaks immersion? In that case I agree to an extent, it's a tradeoff. Running the game in windowed mode increases my FPS significantly and allows me to safely use the -winxp launch parameter which increases it even further (for those who don't know, it increases FPS but stops you from alt+tabbing without crashing), and personally I find extremely low framerate more immersion-breaking than the window. This is why DayZ needs a borderless windowed mode! However there are ways to alleviate the issue somewhat. If you make your window color one which does not contrast with the game colors greatly (personally I use a dark bluish teal color but I'm sure there are better colors) and set the Taskbar to auto-hide when you open the game, the windowed effect is much less apparent.

If you add -nopause to your launch parameters it should fix this issue.

Right now I never take a can opener. First thing I do when I spawn is make an improvised knife, it usually only loses like 3% of the can and doubles as a weapon or a tool to tear rags and chop bushes down, etc, all in one slot. If i find Military Boots and a Combat Knife I'll take those and drop the improvised, nearly identical stats but it won't take up a slot in my bag. The can opener is just a can opener. The only advantage it has is that it's still fully functional after it gets ruined, which isn't that much of an advantage. It would be nice if having the can opener actually made a difference, and I think the way to make that happen is by making opening a can a timed action.

I really hope they don't add icons like what the mod had. Having the icons constantly floating there is much more immersion-breaking than the message spam for me. -
I'd say no. In my opinion the system we have now is better. Something I would like though is an action (like Hands up, suicide, other F# key actions) to hold the item in one's hands out, and another player can simply use the action key while looking at it to take it.

I agree with you on this idea. Multi-use items like the changes you suggested to the Holster or the bandana are great because in a way it allows two items to spawn without it affecting the loot economy or performance by actually having two items spawn. I'd also like to be able to wear two chest holsters simultaneously, crossing or one above the other facing the same way. I love the look of the chest holster (you can actually see your cool jacket!) but statistically it's one of the worst options. -

This message spam is going to be removed, unfortunately the UI they'really replacing it with is really bad (in my opinion), to the point that I'd rather keep how it is. What we really need is for the messages to fade out much more quickly and a hotkey to make them disappear/reappear instantly. Also it would be nice if pressing the chat key made recent messages (let's say the last 10 lines) show again, like in many other games.
