I agree completely. This should be applied to the pump-action shotguns too, as well as single-action revolvers if they are added. It would also add another layer of skill, as a player who is experienced with working the bolt would be better at timing the bolt quickly, allowing them to fire a consecutive shot much quicker (especially useful for sawn-off Mosin users).
-
Then shouldn't the entire concept of the reload button be removed? Realistically if you need to remember where you put your bullets then you would need to remember where you put your magazines as well.Or as an alternative, hotkey reloading could work as I described above but can only be done with ammunition/magazines in your vest, as the vest would be designed for quick and easy access.
-
Yeahh...no. DayZ is not a PvP game and the devs don't want it to be, and never did. While combat will remain, it is not intended to be the main focus of the game. Maybe once modding comes this will be on some private servers, but for now I'd say it doesn't have a place in DayZ. Try ArmA if you just want to shoot people.
-
I guess it depends on which jeans you're wearing. Personally most of my jeans could fit the entire upper part (slide) of most pistols in the pocket with little risk of it falling, and with a compact gun like the Makarov almost the entire thing could fit. But I know most jeans would have smaller pockets (for example most women's jeans have notoriously small pockets).
-
But by that logic wouldn't (most) pistols have to fit into a 1x2 slot? One can fit a handgun into the pockets of jeans fairly easily.
-
I agree completely. Maybe not infinite range for realism's sake, but it should be able to reach much farther. Maybe we could find a radio (2x2 or 3x2) that works the same as the walkie-talkie, but with infinite range. Now what I'd really like to see is TeamSpeak, Skype, etc. being disabled in-game. IMO squads running around communicating telepathically sort of goes against what the game is all about. However, I doubt there is any way to do this aside from server-based anti-TS rules.
-
I agree, have some beans! Really any 2-slot weapon should fit inside the boots. Additionally, somewhat off-topic but shouldn't the Combat Knife be found fairly commonly in military bases? It doesn't make sense that a base would stock tons of boots designed to hold a specific knife, but not stock any of that knife. And it's not like it only spawns at helicopters for balancing purposes, if you've ever used one you'll know that it's actually not very useful.
-
DayZ is supposed to be more of a simulator and this isn't something that's really possible in real life, so personally I don't think it should be added. However I do like the idea of giving handguns unique properties to make them more viable. Something I could see is having some use (with limited accuracy and field of fire) of the weapon while handcuffed if it is stored in one's Pants or Boots (when/if that's added).

Hello fellow survivors! Today I'd like to make some suggestions regarding dynamic events in DayZ. I am sure that some of these concepts have been suggested elsewhere, but I have not been able to find an entire thread dedicated to it. By dynamic event I mean something that has a chance to happen/spawn and often occurs at different locations, such as the helicopter crashes and police cars currently in-game. Here are some of my suggestions for dynamic events, feel free to comment on my suggestions or add your own! Crashed Civilian Supply Transport Vehicles Several variants of this vehicle would exist. Each variant would have been bound for a specific store and would be carrying the appropriate items (Guns and ammo to a gun store, canned food to a supermarket, seeds to a farm, car parts to a mechanic, clothing to a clothing shop, gasoline to a gas station, etc.) They will spawn crashed in the parking lot of the destination store, or somewhe en route. These vehicles should have massive amounts of whatever valuables they carry. For example a food truck should carry hundreds of cans of various food. Three of each type will spawn across the map, but only one of each type will have a chance to spawn loot. As a possibility, there could be built-in alarms on the trucks. This would cause a loud noise, alerting any nearby survivors or zombies to your location and making collection of the goods much more risky. Hidden Rebel Cache As many of you know, the back story of DayZ involves a rebellion movement in Chernarus (from ArmA 2). So wouldn't it make sense that there would be some caches of rebel supplies left over? These caches would consist mostly of guns and anmunition, and take the form of a camp in the woods or a small stash in an urban home. Only a few of these would spawn per server reset, and they will be very well-hidden and difficult to find. As a possibility, maybe some maps or notes found within homes could give clues or directions as to where a stash might be hidden. These could lead the player on a (sometimes fruitless) sort of scavenger hunt. For example they might find a letter in a house that says some supplies are stashed at Josef Vukov's home. They will then have to find a census record at the town hall or capital to locate Josef's address. But there may have been multiple people of this name living in the country, so the player will have to determine which one it is. The player eventually tracks Josef to an apartment building far from the first house where the note was found. They will now have to loot through the apartment building in search of Josef's former room to retrieve their prize. Destroyed Military Convoy This would operate similarly to helicopter crash sites. It consists of several broken-down vehicles previously belonging to the national military or UN forces stationed in Chernarus. These vehicles imclude mostly patrol vehicles (like an HMMWV), military transport trucks, and the rare APC. Large amounts of weapons and supplies can be found inside. Western weapons and equipment (M4, etc.) will spawn at UN convoys, and Eastern equipment (SMERSH Vest, etc.) will spawn at Chernarussian/Russian convoys. They will usually be found in the middle of the road, sometimes in a city or town. Most of the vehicles will be damaged beyond repair, but there is a (very low) chance that one vehicle will be operational, albeit with large amounts of repairs. This would give a group a very valuable vehicle if they can successfully repair it. There would be very large amounts of zombies in and around the convoy, making looting the site a riskier task, and not something some random lucky freshspawn can easily get fully geared from. This means that spawning a convoy near the coast would not disrupt the current loot patterns (i.e. have to move West to get geared) because you would already need to be geared to loot it safely. Zombie Infestation This event would consist of huge amounts of zombies - I'm thinking about 200-300 - packed into a relatively small area. This could occur in places out on the road or in the wilderness, or in cities and towns. If they are in a city they will be hidden inside a few close-by buildings. This will prove to be a very dangerous, maybe impossible situation for all but the largest and most well-equipped groups. Thus in most cases, flight will be the best option. Of course there will be no major reward for clearing these out (unless loot is added to zombies), so it will mostly just be a risk while looting or traveling, or a challenging combat situation to overcome if you are brave. Just to add more spontaneity and dynamism. There should be a few of these spawning per server restart. Five would be a good amount, as this would keep it rare occurrence as you would not usually go out searching for an infestation. Military Anti-Disease Efforts This event could take a few different shapes. The military in question could be Chernarussian, UN, or both. The loot found at each site would be based on which faction controlled it (for example, the M4 can be found at UN sites). The sites will be based on actions that the government would have logically taken in an attempt to stop the spread of the zombie disease outbreak, such as a refugee camp, an attempt to organize evacuation at the coast, a quarantine of a small town or part of a city, or a massive pile of dead bodies intended for burial or burning. There should be large amounts of zombies present at each of these. The loot present will vary between site types. For example a refugee camp will spawn large amounts of food. These sites can be useful for their loot, but their primary purpose will be as a set-piece. Again, the zombies present at each site will prevent the ruining of the current loot path system. Only a few of these (2-3) should spawn per server reset.

Yeah, this has been confirmed for some time.

Hello players and (hopefully) devs! I'd like tu suggest that the Burlap Gun Wrap return to DayZ standalone. Although it doesn't do that much for camouflage, this attachment has the improvised/survivor aesthetic that I and many of my fellow players would like to see more of in DayZ. Ffor how to get it, since we now have Burlap Strips we could craft it with one set of strips and a sewing kit or something llike that. What do you think?

Nametags + Reputation System Proof of concept
OnionOfShame replied to stray cat's topic in Suggestions
An interesting idea bit I'm gonna have to disagree. I'm real life you wouldn't magically know if someone else has good intentions. You would only be able to tell by their appearance, which is already in-game. For example endgame players in bright colors or wearing a UN Helmet are not usually looking to kill you in my experience, while players in full camouflage often are. -

Kriss Vector: The Vector is a very unique submachine gun which fires .45 ACP ammunition. Besides it's futuristic design, the major positive of the Kriss Vector is the Kriss Super-V System. This is an internal system which essentially completely eliminates the recoil of the weapon when firing. It also has a very high fire rate, allowing it to take down targets very quickly. Due to its versatility and compact size, it is commonly used by the United States Military as a backup emergency weapon for pilots and vehicle crews. IMAGE: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d0/Kriss_Vector_SMG_Realistic.png -
You mean a bank-like system like an MMO? In that case, no, never, not ever. This is supposed to be a survival simulator, things like that have no place in this game.
-
Animals don't necessarily stay where they spawn. They will usually wander pretty far.

[poll] Please bring back the Burlap Gun Wrap!
OnionOfShame replied to OnionOfShame's topic in Suggestions
could you clarify? I have cleaned a firearm many times before and in my experience, a wrap wouldn't effect the cleaning process as long as it doesn't cover any of the exposed moving parts, which would be stupid to do anyways. And by your logic wouldn't the ghillie gun wrap be non-viable as well? Many militaries utilize ghillie gun wraps, and I highly doubt that they would if it was that much of an issue. And even if it was an issue that would be another game mechanic. You can camouflage your weapon, but it will become dirty faster, requiring more frequent use of weapon cleaning kits. -
Take all my beans sir! Seriously though I love this idea, especially the birds. That would be great for a solo survivor playstyle. I think that there should be no status effects shown in the inventory window in-game. We only have the status effects about ourselves because we ARE the person so we can tell if we get hungry, cold, etc.. To determine an animal's needs and status, we should have to examine them and pay attention to their actions and behavoirs. I also have an idea for the player's death. When a player dies, a loyal animal will remain by their side. For example a dog will protect the corpse as if waiting for the owner to wake up. It would threaten and attack any players except for those that the dog knows to be friends with the deceased player. About the animal combat debate, I think that players should be able to hurt animals, and vice versa of course. DayZ is meant to be a realistic survival simulator and it would be a bit immersion-breaking for any thing to be completely invincible, especially as we are free to torture, murder, and even eat the flesh of our fellow humans. Animal mortality would also add another layer to the game, allowing you to become attached to and protective of your in game companion as you would in real life.

While I do like the idea of varied zombies, I think that L4D-style zombies have no place in the simulation style of DayZ. In my opinion the only variations should be those that could be found in normal humans. For example, one zombie might be fat and therefore have a knockdown charge attack but move slowly, some zombies with longer nails might be more likely to cause bleeding, some zombies can run faster, et cetera.

PvP people are in it to shoot each other, not to punch each other.

Pretty good idea, have some beans.

Really? I've looted through the entirety of the NWAF and Vybor military base about 10 times since 0.55 came to stable and I haven't seen any AKMs or magazines, although handguards, stocks, and PSO-1 scopes seem to be very common now. Wrecked vehicles do seem to be the best loot locations now (found a few AK-74s and a bunch of attachments, other guns and ammo plus my many military vests there) but I have yet to see an AKM there. And about safety, I intend to have at least one friend with me for security during the trade. Obviously still a chance they'll try something, but having backup will be good.
-
Hello, I am looking to trade for an AKM and at least one magazine, as well as Attachable Pouches. No stock needed, but I do need a handguard. Bonus points if it has an AK rail handguard attached or you have more than one mag. To offer you I have: -AK-74 -2 AK-74 mags (one black, one brown) -150 5.45 Rounds (for the AK-74 - five stacks of 30) -Green SKS -PU Scope -2 or 3 10 Round Clips (for the SKS) -4 Powdered Milk -Woodland Ghillie Gun Wrap -Pink Balaclava (for the lulz) -Combat Knife -(maybe) Black High-Capacity Vest -Plus some other stuff... What you have for me will define how much I'm willing to give to you. For example, if you have an AKM with a Rail Handguard and three magazines, I'll be willing to give more than I would if you just gave me an AKM with one magazine. This is all on the third-person public shard. Message me or comment below if you're interested in trading with me, thank you and happy surviving!

About the ammunition for the revolver, since the round is essentially the same size as a .357 Magnum round, I was thinking that maybe the player could craft the ammunition with .357 ammunition and paper (the actual ammunition is in a paper cartridge). Or we could smelt our own ammunition with scrap metals at a fire (this was very common during the American Revolution and other conflicts where one army had little ammunitionn), gunpowder taken from any bullets, and paper. -
The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
OnionOfShame replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
Hello everyone, there are a few weapons I would like to see added to DayZ. Here is a list of a few of them. I am sure that some of these have been suggested elsewhere in this thread, but I don't feel like looking through the entire thing to find them. So, here they are: MeleeKukri: The kukri is a knife of Nepalese origin. It is characterized by its inwardly curved edge, similar to a machete, and is used as both a tool and as a weapon. The shape and balance of the weapon allows it to be used in combat as a sort of hybrid between a knife and an axe. Although it can perform a thrusting attack it is most effective with chopping, with a kukri once being recorded to have chopped through a person's head and halfway down their chest. They are also very versatile as tools, and can chop wood, skin animals, open cans, dig, build, chop meat and vegetables, and be used for agriculture.IMAGE: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/07/Polished_kukri.jpg/1280px-Polished_kukri.jpg Improvised Tomahawk: The tomahawk is a primitive but effective weapon and tool. It was originally developed and utilized by native American tribes for both combat and utility purposes. It's construction is very simple, only requiring a sharpened stone and a stick (and a rope? Personally I would say no rope so that it can be made without urban loot, but it's up to the devs) to create. Items such as feathers can be added to customize it. In combat it can be used as a standard axe to chop at foes, or it can be thrown from a short range. As a tool it can be used to skin animals, open cans, and chop bushes, but it is not strong enough to chop down a tree.IMAGE: http://primitiveedge.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/DSC_0332.41183343_std.JPG Modern Tomahawk: The modern tomahawk is a modern adaptation of the ancient native American weapon. It is made from quality metals for a higher durability level. Like the improvised variant, it is useful as a weapon to be swung or thrown at foes, or a tool to skin animals, open cans, and chop kindling.IMAGE: http://www.brownsafe.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Omnivore-Bladeworks-Recon.jpg Shiv: A shiv is a type of improvised knife. Usually fashioned crudely out of a stick, bone, pen, or any other similar item, shivs are common in prisons due to their ease of creation and concealment. It can also be used to some extent as a knife-type tool. However, due to its crudely improvised nature, it has a low durability level and is easily broken.IMAGE: http://kk.org/mt-files/streetuse-mt/shiv5.jpg Improvised Club: A self-explanatory weapon. Improvised clubs are crudely-designed blunt weapons, designed to utilize the wielder's strength to cause blunt trauma and possibly bleeding to foes. It can be modified with barbed wire, nails, or rocks for increased damage.IMAGE: http://www.projectgermani.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/DSCN73751.jpg Trench Knife: The trench knife is a close-combat weapon originally designed for use in trench warfare during World War I. It is very effective as a weapon, being equipped with a standard knife blade and point as well as a knuckle duster integrated into the grip. It can be used for lethal or nonlethal takedowns, and it can also perform any utility purpose a standard knife would.IMAGE: http://www.aef-doughboys.com/fieldgearphotos/1918trenchknife2.jpg Bagh Naka: The bagh naka is a unique claw-like weapon of Indian origin. The phrase bagh naka translates to "tiger claw" in Hindi. It consists of four to five claws attached to a crossbar. It would be relatively easy to improvise a bagh naka. It can either be worn on the outside of the knuckles (like brass knuckles), or on the inside of the hand. When worn on the inside it can easily be concealed. In either position it is capable of making quick and vicious attacks, causing heavy bleeding wherever the attack hits.IMAGE: http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq273/greershane/American/e4a35557.jpg Bows/Crossbows/SlingshotsMedieval Crossbow: The crossbow is a deadly medieval ranged weapon. It consists of a small metal bow mounted on to a wooden body. It is found most commonly in the abandoned castles of Chernarus.IMAGE: http://i12.servimg.com/u/f12/14/72/92/15/willia28.jpg Pistol Crossbow: The pistol crossbow is a small crossbow. It operates very similarly to the standard crossbow, but it is smaller, meaning that it can fit in one's backpack but cannot accurately hit targets at as great a range.IMAGE: http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server1800/204ff/products/585/images/2884/1_8__12747.1410636523.1280.1280.jpg?c=2 Improvised Slingshot: The slingshot is a simple yet effective projectile weapon. It is easy to craft, requiring only a stick and a string. It does not deal excessively high damage, but one well-placed shot can potentially knock a target unconscious. The supply of ammunition for this weapon is nearly infinite, as it can easily be foraged from the ground.IMAGE: http://media2.hickorees.com/image/SlingShot_L1.jpg Sling: The sling is an ancient but very effective improvised weapon. It is very easy to create with items looted from settlements or materials from the wild. It does not deal high damage, but is capable of knocking targets out with a hit to the head. It can launch projectiles very far compared to the slingshot. Standard ammunition is easy to find on the ground wherever the user finds themself in need. However it can also use special types of ammunition, such as fragmentation grenades and bolas.IMAGE: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8e/Weapon_Sling_1.jpg SidearmColt Model 1851 Navy: The Colt Model 1851 Navy is an iconic single-action percussion revolver. It originally used .36 caliber ball rounds, but it has several variants wich can utilize a variety of ammunition sizes. It is of American origin and is most often known for its roles in American West folklore and legends. However, it was also used by the militaries of many other countries including the Russian Empire, so it is likely that a few people would have one at their homes as a collector's item or a family heirloom.IMAGE: http://theautry.org/colt/images/87_56_3detail1.jpg Apache Revolver: The Apache Revolver is a very unique weapon. It was designed in Belgium, and was named after Les Apaches, a gang of French street criminals which utilized the weapon often. The original was chambered with 7mm rounds, but a 9mm variant was used by British commandos in World War II. The gun itself has no barrel or sights, giving it a very low effective range. However, it has a built-in knuckle duster and small knife, which can be used by adjusting the weapon. Thus, it can be used for lethal or nonlethal melee attacks, and lethal short-ranged attacks.IMAGES: Weapon: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/28/Apache_revolver.jpg/1280px-Apache_revolver.jpgPositions: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/23/Apache_revolver.svg/300px-Apache_revolver.svg.png RifleMk. 39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle (or Mk. 14 Enhanced Battle Rifle): The Mk. 39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle is a rifle chambered in 7.62x51mm rounds. It is used by American and NATO forces, most often in situations where accurate but rapid long-range fire is required. The weapon was designed to replace the M14-DMR rifle as the US Marine Corps' marksman rifle. It is fed from a 10-round or 20-round box magazine, and can accept a variety of attachments including suppressors, long-range optics, and anything that can attach to a rail. In-game it would most likely be found at helicopter crash sites. If the standard M14 was added into the game, this weapon could be added as an "attachment" (would replace the wooden body but keep the internal parts).IMAGE: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0d/USMC-090417-M-4595B-185.jpg/300px-USMC-090417-M-4595B-185.jpg SR-25: The SR-25 is a semi-automatic sniper rifle chambered for 7.62x51mm NATO rounds. It was designed for parts commonality with other rifles used my the United States, and can share many parts with the M16 family of rifles. It is used by US marines and special forces and other NATO forces under the name of Mk 11, or M110 SASS (Semi-Automatic Sniper System). It is capable of delivering rapid and accurate shots at very long ranges. It is fed from a 10-round or 20-round box magazine and is compatible with any attachment which can fit on the rail such as long-range scopes, bipods, sound suppressors, and more.IMAGE: http://world.guns.ru/userfiles/images/sniper/sn13/sr25-mk11m0-2.jpg SA80: The SA80 is a select-fire gas-operated bullpup assault rifle of British origin. It uses 5.56x45mm NATO rounds and is used primarily by British armed forces. There are several variants of this weapon including standard rifle, light support weapon, (with a longer barrel and bipod), and a shortened carbine variant. The factory-default version comes with a SUSAT rifle scope pre-attached, but the scope can be detached to mount other optics. It does not have rails by default, but they can be attached. It would make sense for this rifle to be in-game, as UK Assault vests are found commonly in military bases across Chernarus.IMAGE: http://norfolktankmuseum.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/SA80.jpg ExplosiveM79: The M79 is a break-action grenade launcher of American origin. It is most famous for its usage in the Vietnam War. It can use any ammunition type that can fit in a 40mm shell. There are many varieties of special ammunition for 40mm launchers, but the mosy common is a standard explosive. The barrel and buttstock can also be sawn off to be made more compact, but with reduced range and accuracy. Although it was used mostly by the US, it is possible that military or rebel forces in Chernarus would use this weapon (plus it just fits the game's aesthetic better in my opinion).IMAGE: http://world.guns.ru/userfiles/images/grenade/gl06/m79-2.jpg RGM-40 Kastet: The RGM-40 is a Russian 40mm grenade launcher weapon. It is the standalone version of the GP-30 grenade launcher attachment. It can use any ammunition type that can fit in a 40mm shell. There are many varieties of special ammunition for 40mm launchers, but the mosy common is a standard explosive. The stock is collapsible, allowing it to be stored easily in a backpack. It was originally designed for use by police with nonlethal rounds, but it is capable if using lethal ammunition as well.IMAGE: http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111202121249/metalgear/images/a/ae/T_zbran_rucna_rgm_40_kastet_172.jpg Smoke Grenade: Smoke grenades are a nonlethal thrown device designed to emit white or colored smoke. These devices can emit white smoke for visual cover, or colored smoke for signaling purposes. When activated it will cause an extremely small explosion which can be harmful if a person is too close.IMAGE: http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/tlaststand/images/9/97/Smoke_Grenades.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130212011521 Improvised Grenade: Improvised grenades are lethal explosive devices crafted from materials collected by a survivor. They can be crafted from several different materials including paint cans and propane canisters. These can be just as dangerous as military grenades, but can blow up in the user's face if not assembled correctly.IMAGE: http://www.designboom.com/cms/images/andrea09/oilspill02.jpg -
Hello fellow players. While looting earlier today I noticed that the binoculars can be "opened"/"closed", like any item that can hold other items in your inventory. I tried placing a variety if items inside but I didnt find anything that worked. Does it actually hold anything, or is this a bug, or a plan for future content (i.e. combine it with the rangefinder or add a rope to hold it around your neck)? Thanks!
