Improvements for the **IMPROVISED BOW** (Quiver, Arrow Stack Limit, Range)
OnionOfShame replied to 0.64 Freerider's topic in Suggestions
It depends on which type of quiver we're using. A quiver on the back is what most people think of, as it is more common in fantasy games/films/shows. However this type is generally inferior to a hip-mounted quiver, which is actually more common in real life. The hip-mounted quiver would usually hold more ammunition amd take up a curently nonexistent Slot (which would probably conflict with a hip Holster if it is ever added). -
Some pretty good ideas here, have some beans. On another note, the issue you mentioned with the helicopter crash sites is a bug introduced with 0.55. In 0.55 I have found that the heli crash sites are 100% guaranteed to spawn in the same places no matter what. These locations are southwest of the Vybor Military base, in a field near the west-northwest edge of the map, and a field north of Stary Sobor. I rarely ever found anything at them, so I came to the conclusion that either A. Loot was not spawning there; B. Loot was spawning at random crash sites while the structures remained stationary; or C. Other players knew about it and always got to the crash before I could (Which I highly doubt). Also, not sure if you already know this but there are two types of heli crashes. These are American and Russian. Only the American crash sites have smoke trails, making Russian crash sites more difficult to spot from a distance. It's possible that you simply missed the crash sites because they were the Russian kind.

Agreed. Realism would be nice, but a system that's basically RNG would negatively effect the experience in my opinion.

It isn't really the infection that people consider a joke. It's more the zombies that are joked about, as until recently you could pretty much ignore them and be completely fine (Of course now they just ruin your pristine pants with one punch to the chest)

I disagree. Talking about gand design, having your character sleep and require food while offline is awful. It restricts actual playability to only people who can be on constantly or at least have a regular schedule with lots of playtime. Not all of us live in our parents' basements with infinite time to play.

Love it, mostly because it would add more of a reason to actually use bows. Maybe we could have more types of utility arrows such as fire (primarily to burn structures or light planted accelerant), obsidian (the arrowhead shatters, making the wound difficult to treat), stone/heavy (knock people out or break bones), poison, tranquilizer, rocksalt (salt in wounds is painful), whistling, et cetera. It'd be cool to have another role in the squad rather than just sniper and assault rifle like it is now.

I agree. Have some beans! I'd like to see a lot of instruments added like guitars, violins, drums, flutes, tambourines, ukeleles, (working) pianos, etc. and maybe some traditional Slavic instruments too. Of course we should have to learn how to play them as some random person wouldn't have the slightest idea what to do with a violin, but instruments could vastly improve the leisure/roleplay/whatever you wold call it portion of the game.

Agreed completely. In my opinion getting hot should give you a wet status effect as well as the current effects, as sweating is how water would be lost in that situation.

Craftable Dovetail Mount and Scopes/Sights
OnionOfShame replied to Bush_Wookieing_101's topic in Suggestions
Not necessarily. Driving a car can be very complex (depending on the car of course) and not intuitive at all for people from cultures without cars. Who's to say our characters weren't trained in gunsmithing before? What I was trying to say is that it's a video game. Yes it's a simulator so it should be realistic, but video games simply do not work when completely realistic. Imagine how horrible DayZ would be if the physical shape of our characters was completely realistic. Most people wouldn't be able to run through a major city without tiring or cramping up or something and slowing to a walk. TLDR it's a game, some BS is necessary -
Craftable Dovetail Mount and Scopes/Sights
OnionOfShame replied to Bush_Wookieing_101's topic in Suggestions
How would they know how to fire a weapon? How to reload? How to control recoil? How to skin a rabbit? How to drive a car, for that matter? -
Personally I prefer how the attachments are shown now. In real life we wouldn't have some sort of floating chart like that, we would just know what can and can't be put on based on what we already have. However I do agree with you on the animation. It should really take time to attach or detach anything from a weapon. I've always found it very silly how a player with a Mosin can just swap between the LRS, a PU Scope, and the iron sights in the blink of an eye.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
OnionOfShame replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
They don't really have to dig through, it's all compressed on the first post of the thread. I'm fairly sure the SVT-40 is on there already. That said, I have a feeling that the devs don't draw much inspiration from what weapons we have suggested here, at least not for now. For now it seems that they want to get at least one of each weapon "type" out before expanding the ones available. For example I haven't seen many people pumped up to use a single barrel rifle but the IZH-18 is being added in 0.56. -
I'd like to see this as well. But surviving there even for a short time will have to be a challenge, even once you're fully geared and you're only there for a short time. I'm a fan of challenging PvE and in my opinion DayZ could use a bit more.

I would support it, but honestly in my opinion there's no point. We already have a gun which fires the same round and looks fairly similar (AKM). I know they're different and work differently and all, but really I think all that adding this would do is make it harder to actually find a matching weapon and magazine.
-
I like it. But you do realize that this is probably the most commonly suggested weapon on this forum, right?

Add an extra experimental steam version to easy switch between stable and exp
OnionOfShame replied to Parad0x89's topic in Suggestions
Makes sense, and would be a lot easier than the current method. Beans. -
Have you even tried to do CPR? To do it, just go up to an unconscious player and scroll through the options to get to "Compress (CPR)" and press your action key.

Books and its future uses by Jorn von Veen
OnionOfShame replied to thefriendlydutchman's topic in Suggestions
I like this idea. IMO the footsteps should only be quieter to zombies/animals though. This way a statistical boost from a book will not directly affect your interactions with other players, and skill will trump time played on the current life. Have some beans. -
There is already CPR in the game.
-
Readable books already implemented. I think that the carving system could be really cool and add a new level of uniqueness amd customization not present in any other game (that I can think of). However, a completely realistic and unlimited system would require data processing that I don't think the current engine (or any other modern game engine for that matter) could handle properly. But who knows, maybe it is possible and I'll be pleasantly surprised.
-
Yeahh, the modifications are already confirmed to be in-game at some point. As for the ammunition, it would be interesting but IMO low-priority, as there are more important things to add.
-
Personally I like the idea, actually having to think about how you store shit would be nice. Here, have some beans.

Hello survivors, I'd like to make some suggestions for changes to the reloading system in DayZ. I'm sure sone of this has been suggested elsewhere, but I have yet to see a thread dedicated to it. 1. Internal Magazines Currently in DayZ, if you use a weapon with an internal magazine such as the SKS or MP-133, if you fire off part of the magazine it cannot be reloaded properly. For example if you take two shots with your MP-133 at zombies, there will be four rounds left before reloading is necessary. However you cannot simply place two more shells in, you have to empty the remaining shells and reload. I'm not sure why this is, as I have used several pump-action shotguns in my life and I have never found one that required reloading in this way. Probably just not implemented yet, but in my opinion this is essential. 2. Reloading Time The time for various reloads should be adjusted where the number of rounds reloaded counts (i.e. MP-133, Repeater). The amount of shells reloaded in the animation should be representative of the actual amount of bullets reloaded. Chambered rounds (like putting a single round in that AK you have no mag for) shold be affected as well. This delay should also apply to the refilling of magazines...in real life the bullets wouldn't magically stack up perfectly in the mag when I decide I want them to. 3. Reload Hotkey All weapons should be able to use the reload hotkey even without a magazine. This would only be balanced if the reload times are implemented as mentioned above. Weapons for which a magazine would not work at all (Longhorn, MP-133, Repeater, etc.) would simply reload normally. In magazine-fed weapons (AKs, M4, CR527, M1911, etc.), a single round will be chambered. Weapons that can use speedloaders or clips (Magnum, IZH-43, Mosin, SKS, Blaze 95, etc.) can reload via the button without the clip, but will take significantly longer to do so.

DayZ Virtual Paper Doll - Community Clothing Suggestions (v1.30)
OnionOfShame replied to Evil Minion's topic in Suggestions
I personally would like to see some new headgear. The issue with your list is mostly with the helmets, I think. You had several Russian helmets with visors on the list. These are already in the game, but they are all essentially the same helmet so they are all grouped together and called the Gorka Helmet. Same with the western helmets, they are all grouped together as the Ballistic Helmet. What I would like to see is more customization of these. Maybe wraps or covers to improve camouflage and allow the mounting of equipment or accessories, or additional visors for the Gorka Helmet. As for more clothing suggestions, there are a few not on the list that I'd like to see. Baja Coat - More commonly known as a drug rug, these colorful patterned sweatshirts/coats are very warm and can easily be layered, but do not protect very well against the wind. Lennon Sunglasses - self explanatory. The circular sunglass design iconic of John Lennon. Great for fashion, just like the rest of the glasses in-game. Maybe someday they'll actually do something, but for now, fashion. Masks - Just more masks in general. Maybe we could get a plain white mask and paint designs with whatever spray paint we can find (once more colors are added) Additionally, I really think that the Down Jacket should return. Such a warm piece of clothing can actually be highly valuable if the scenario is made colder or a colder one is designed (right now temperature isn't a problem unless you get wet). Cheers! -
Right here on the official forums. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/223307-central-economy/page-9#entry2244637 "It will never again become elektro deathmatch, prison island deathmatch, and gangs of guys in military gear looking for a fight. EDIT : Since there is lot of traction on the post, let me explain it a bit, especialy for those that havent read replies below. It will still be possible, but a LOT harder and will have huge consequences, since the gear will be really rare and hard to get and you will not be in a cycle of gearing up and engaging in group pvp couples times in a playsession. And most of all it will not be the primary type of playstyle. The statement is about the playstyle that has been predominant and will not be." So basically, the devs do want it to be possible (as to not ruin the sandbox feel), but it is not what they envision for the future of DayZ. Of course they're going to show combat situations in a trailer. The point of a trailer is to get people excited/hyped for a game. No one would be remotely excited by a slow-paced montage of walking and chopping down trees, not even the most fervent survival simulator-nut. There has been no real challenging single-player content in an MMO YET (even that's a bit debatable...). But that doesn't mean that the single-player aspect of an MMO cannot be challenging. The limits of a video game are really the limits of the developers' imagination/skill primarily. If the devs know what they want and know how to do it, they can definitely create any sort of game they want. No one is saying PvP cannot be in the game. I'm saying that the game is not and should not be designed specifically for PvP. I personally agree that the open PvP system should be in the game (the game would lose the adrenaline rush and excitement without it), but as it would be in a real-life situation resembling what the developers are attempting to portray, it should not be the most viable or the only way to live/survive.
