Success!!! I made landfall on Schadenfreude island!!! Due to server restarts it was nightfall when I got there but I GOT THERE. I think BORORM hit the nail on the head . My last attempt I was wearing a rain coat with cargo paints, this time I have a rain coat with gorka pants and didn’t get any cold indications on my inventory dashboard. I received the typical “rapidly cooling off” messages but nothing more. I didn’t use any heating sources, just filled up on water then hit the waves. It took me 1 hour and 47 minutes. I wish I had brought some stones to build a fireplace. I feel like I should leave behind some kind of monument to say I was here. If I had a can of spray paint I would vandalize the hill, isn't that what tourist do? KILLROY WUZ HERE. Now I'm concerned I may not have enough water for the return trip. I left my mountain pack on the mainland because I thought this was going to be a one way mission and didn’t want my next character to start from scratch. That’s going to bite me in the ass. I thought you could drink while swimming but I was unable to perform that action. When I tried the message would say “you are unable to do that right now”. Ok, one item marked off my bucket list. Next item up for bid: The next farthest island. I understand there's another island 44 Kilometers out but I don’t know how it can be achieved without being able to drink while swimming. Maybe .56 will have some different options.

Please, stop building villages everywhere

Deforestation isn't just a Chernarus problem its a global problem. You may be OK with it but your characters kids and your characters kids kids will have to live in that environment. Global warming is a real issue in the virtual world and we need to address it before its to late. Maybe we can activate the DayZ Greenpeace initiative to spread awareness. And how about the senseless killing of those defenseless virtual bunnies? Please, wont you help? For less than a Koruna a day you can feed a starving Chechen fighter..... Ok that's enough shtick. -
Now that I've got the bug I'm also determined to make it. looks like its a race to join the barren island club. Here's to a long swim.

I'm on the island right now conducting my own experiments (see my Schadenfreude island post), so I ran around to check on a few of your question. Yes, the pump works. Yes, there are ashwood trees (I just cut one and it produces and ashwood stick). Yes, there are berry bushes but only the ones that produce blueberries (I'm pretty sure they are poisonous) No apple trees to be found (at least I didn't see any) Yes, loot does spawn. Its scarce and you may have to bump servers but I was able to find a few items. I found seeds, fertilizer, digging tools, some clothing, and a few melee weapons. I also found a derringer in one of the houses but no ammo. There are plenty or rowboats with raincoats, wellies, rope, and netting. Be advised, Zombies also spawn on the west side of the island. Good luck and don't forget to bring matches.

Now I’m really confused. I started my second experiment in the water where I began swimming from the docks at Svetlo and went south down the coast to see how far I could go before Hypo sets in (without heat packs). I filled up with water and food before I started and was well energized. I made it all the way down to the south side of Skalisty island before I had to come to shore to fill up on water and food. I never had a single cold indication appear on my inventory dashboard. I did get several “Im rapidly cooling off” messages throughout the trip but I dissmised them and kept pushing. I was in the water for 2 hours and 10 minutes and no cold indications ! WTF? My new questions are: Are there different climent changes between servers? I did this second experiment on a different server but it was a common public server. Is open water tempature different from coastal water tempature? Since I’m down here I’m going to head out into open water and see how far I can get to see if the server change makes any difference. More to come.

I havent played the .56 experimental yet but I was wondering, are the zombies still silent when attacking, Do they still have the 10 foot reach, and do they still get through doors? Has melee improved any? Thanks

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

I have a buttload of Mosin rounds you can have for nothing. I’m going on vacation and wont be back before .56 goes stable so someone might as well enjoy it. I'm in the USA on central timezone. I loiter around in the northeast area of the map so if you want it you will have to travel this way. PM me to work out the details if your interested.

I see there are servers that say “private Shard” in the title. I joined one and my character appeared in a t-shirt on Noobie Coast. I immediately exited out and joined a public server and had all my gear back. I did a small amount of research on the subject and it seems that you can have an entirely different character on a private shard that is not related to your public character. I wanted to see if this is true and does anyone else play with multiple characters on different shards? I have another issue where every time I log-in to a server my character takes some kind of damage. There is an audible voice of pain and a quick flash of red on the screen. I don’t suffer any other damage and it doesn’t happen again (like if you were sick it would continue in increments) until the next time I log-in. It happens every time no matter what server I’m on. Although it’s non-fatal, it is very irritating. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know how to fix it?
-
Why would this be called role-playing and why isn't it on a private shard? I input the IP address and it comes up on a public hive. I was kinda curious about what role-playing goes on in private shards? When I think of role-playing I think of a bunch of guys pretending to be wizards n shit fighting dragons. Is any event where people get together considered role-playing? Like Survivor GameZ ?
-
A lot of private servers are open so that more players come to the server. Some are whitelisted and have a community that creates certain "play environment" within the server, making it more role-play oriented. There's no server hoppers in private servers. Can someone give me an example of a "role-playing event" ? I mean aren't we all just kind of role playing or am I just confused?
-
No damage that I ever saw. All my clothes were prestine except my boots which were worn and those conditions didnt change as I hopped around. Thanks everyone for the responses. Im gonna get to work on some private shards.
-
Thanks for the quick response. I tried the splint trick and it worked great. I logged into five or six servers to check it out and had no issues with red flashes. Thanks. So if I use a private shard server I will not lose any of my public characters equipment? Sorry for beating this dead horse but I just want to be sure before risking all my hard earned gear.

There is some loot on this island. Odd place for loot to spawn.

Sorry guys. I can see the images I've uploaded in this post while I'm logged in but if I try to view them as a guest I get the "image is no longer available" I dont know why its not viewable to the rest of the world. I couldnt figure out why I was getting comments like this until I logged out and checked. Now I see that I still have some research to do.

Can someone from Europe play on the same server as myself here in the USA? Can you suggest any public servers that have been reliable for this scenario?
-
Thanks for the response but we got it worked out. Had the ping filter set too low.
-
Thanks. Looks like your directions worked for me.

How big is too big?

Ive got them uploaded to Imgur now how do I get them to my post? I clicked on the image icon in the toolbar and it brought up a window to load a URL. I input the URL given to me from Imgur but when I tried to post I got an error saying "you are not allowed to use that image extension on this community" Looks like this has become less about the original post and more about teaching me how to use the forum. Help please?

Sorry, I thought I loaded an image. Can anyone tell me how to load and image to my topic?

For anyone interested, I found a cooking pot in an outhouse a few moments ago. I only posted this because some are asking if anyone has seen them since the new build. I have aslo seen several of the blue gas canisters around the map. I havent attempted to use either of these items, just saw them as I was exploring. Im in dire need of 45 ammo, if someone knows of a reliable spawn point on the east side of the map I would greatly appreciate it.

I have completed another round of tests. Last night I began the second part of my experiments and today I logged in to see how it all shook out. My results are as follows… I set up 6 tents and planted 6 backpacks on 12 different servers. I went to a very remote location, set up a tent, dropped in some cheap loot, went to a second location on the same server, dropped an article of clothing (something with pockets) with and item in the pocket, then went to a third location and dropped a rag. I did this on 9 random servers and 3 servers I frequent regularly (on six I used a backpack instead of a tents). Today I logged into each server and checked the status of my loot. Only one server proved to be persistent while all others reset and wiped. The single persistence server was one I had never used before and it did not identify itself as persistent. Several of the other servers had “persistence enabled” in the description but still wiped. I have no idea how to distinguish persistence servers from non, but know this, there are persistent servers out there. A lot of time went into this test and using three different locations with three different items on twelve servers should cancel out the argument that some random soul might have wondered up and made off with the gear. BTW the single persistent server did in fact reset because I had removed ALL the loot from the spawn location and relocated it to my testing grounds. Today when I went back to the spawn location all new loot had repopulated. My suggestion, unless you know your server is persistent, don’t waste time collecting loot you can’t carry on your person. I posted this in reply to a thread on the STABLE BRANCH discussion board. I also posted here to further spread the word.

I collected 15 or so rags, went to a remote location, dropped one on the ground, logged off and went to another server. Dropped a single rag in the same location, logged off and went to another server. Rinse and repeat until I’m out of rags. Play my other character for about 6 hrs and then go back and check on all my rags. Only one remained and I think it was because that server didn’t restart. So to those asking, persistence is still not enabled. DON’T DROP YOUR $HEIOT if you want to keep it. I have completed another round of tests. I'll try the same experiment tonight with improvised back packs. It wont be 15 but I should be able to do 8 or so. More to come.
