Yes but are you forced to wear a goalie mask?
-
I never understood the mechanics of that feature. If I ran up and killed a guy I would be labeled as a bandit but If I kill a guy who was trying to knock me out, how would I be marked? What if I shoot someone who is trying to kill someone else or run across someone who killed me earlier. Can I exact revenge without penalty? How about just good old fashion robbery where no one dies? Theres also the question of switching sides. If someone starts off with noble intentions but finds the session to be non-entertaining, what would be the method to changing your appearance? Switching from hero to bandit seems pretty straight forward but how would it work going the other way? If there was a road-map to changing sides, how easily could it be exploited? I like the idea of distinct factions but there's way too many gray areas one could fall into and be “forced labeled” due to a gaming algorithm. I always became agitated with other games where if you made a decision in one town you became infamous across the entire territory. Chernarus is a non powered world with a collapsed infrastructure. How can the citizens of one area instantly know my moral disposition from an action that occurred somewhere else? I think RP servers and eventually the Modding community can do a better job at policing crime and punishment.

I have a spare hunting scope if your willing to travel to the Serverograd area to retrieve it. I'm in the UTC-6 (U.S. central time zone) and on play on public 3rd person. PM if your interested.

This works especially well if your a fresh spawn. Run up to the stranger and put your fists up for a fist bump. This international sign has become the new hand shake in todays world. If he backs off, just try it again. He will figure out what your trying to do and respond in kind. Congratulations, new friend made.

Your earlier quote: "this guy wouldn't stop for a drink if he's hunting me down". It seems you have now convinced yourself that it was necessary to drop this dangerous assailant. It just makes me think of the many many times I've been shot for no particular reason except that I was available. Anxiety and fear will no doubt make a uncomfortable situation more tense and thinking he might kill you was all the motivation your finger needed. I may have approached the situation differently or I may have done the same. It would depend on if my boss yelled at me at work that day or if my wife gave me a flirty pat on the ass, IDK. I'd like to think I would draw from experiences but in your case this was your first time in the situation so your reaction was not uncommon. Maybe next time you'll approach it a little different. In the end dead is dead and bullets have no regrets. Its your adventure to unfold how you choose. BTW, - what are the chances of someone else being here? - you will find this to be surprisingly high in the oddest of places. As for the military base, just going there will bring drama into your life. What you consider etiquette others consider opportunity and if your alone, watching the server-list will only distract you and lengthen the time you are in the killjar. Hundreds of players are looking and logging into low-pop servers to get that easy cache and if your the only one on, then the next guy see's there's only one other player so what are the chances? Im just bustin you balls a little for friendly banter. I like reading the stories because I enjoy the nostalgia I get from a novice perspective. Hope you don't take my criticism as insults.

New .60 infected jump over fences and objects!
Judged_Guitly replied to haknslash's topic in Gallery
Nice capture. I saw them jumping over the small fences but I didn't catch them hoping over the tall ones. -
I may have misheard but while he was talking to Jam I thought he said there were no military locations added . If I'm wrong I apologize.
-
I saw that. I thought it was pretty cool.

I wonder if the guy you shot in the house has committed your name to memory in the same regards as you have to Mr. V. BTW congratulations on your first KOS and your first KOS evasion. Gets the blood pumping doesn't it?

I have found enough netting to craft a couple ghillies since 59 was released but the problem was hanging on to it long enough to gather it all together. I’ve lost it to bandits, despawning barrels, shed poisoning, and camp raiders. I’ve never been able to actually craft a suit. I’m embarrassed to say how many hours I’ve logged running from Berezino to Electro and back. I currently have one net and will waste no more time in 59 searching for more. It is just too grinding. No kidding, I have actually dozed off while auto-running up the coast searching for the stuff. It does spawn but it is extremely rare. Heres a small tip: Be sure to look under the boats that are turned upside down.

If the building your unable to enter is a storage shed with a single door next to a double door then open the double door and make a running jump. If you time it just right you will enter the shed but be halfway in the floor. Dont sweat it. loot the building and exit any direction. You can walk out right through the wall. If you have time jogging is more visually pleasing but you risk extended exposure to hostiles. I know that military gear is very desired but at your level if you manage to secure any it will most likely get you killed. A shinny new toy will attract bandits. Stick to civilian weapons until you get your sea legs.

Something every new player should know before starting
Judged_Guitly replied to GlasgowGamingGuy's topic in New Player Discussion
I feel ya. I probably should have quoted Killawife instead since he commented on the idea of a fresh start at each login. I wasn't promoting these type servers just saying they exist. -

There are servers that do not have persistence enabled. I used to go on one in particular when I had a test or experiment to conduct. Problem is they have a very low population so if you like interaction you will be disappointed. -

I try very hard not to get into this mindset. I've been playing SA since Oct 2014 and I still immerse myself deeply into my characters, especially when I cross that line-of-value. When I first spawn in I consider my character helpless and useless and dont care if he makes it through morning but once I find that single piece of loot (gun w/ ammo, green drybag, M65 jacket, or whatever) that gives my character a little bit of net-worth, I get up on the keyboard and start paying attention. When a second piece is secured I begin a no-$hit plan for survival and I'm now fully committed to keeping this guy alive for the long haul. I'm more of a hoarder/base builder so it's not uncommon for me to keep a guy alive for several weeks. Color me ridiculous but after that amount of time I get attached and don't want to see my character laying ragdoll. When me or one of my friends gets sick or injured we pull out all the stops to nurse them back to health even though it would be quicker and easier just to die and respawn. I have a guy on a private server that has been alive since the middle of January. If you are strictly PVP then I can understand the "meh" outlook but it doesn't sound compelling to me. To each his own. -
You said, "i normally kill people easy when theres no desync or lag" & "normally i still hit people when there running". I think this suggests there isn't a problem with the hit box but instead maybe the gods of lag were shinning on him that day. I take it you didn't die in that encounter? Were you able to pursue and finish or was the element of surprise your only advantage?

You can’t expect, in this forum, to get a true unbiased opinion on who thinks the game is a disappointment and who doesn’t. Its like going to church and asking who believes in God? Most of those who are disappointed in the current state are probably not tuning in to take a poll. There maybe a few naysayers loitering about but the numbers at this forum will probably lean to the positive. Sinners are usually scolded pretty severely leaving them feeling unwelcomed, ergo, they don’t hang out for cake after the sermon. My vote is no, DayZ is not a disappointment. The development of the game is a chalky pill to swallow and every Wednesday I have less desire to log in, not because I’m disappointed, but because I don’t want to invest time into my character (I’m a hoarder) if there’s an update next week, or next week, or next week. I have never gotten as much “mileage for the money” from any other form of entertainment than I have from DayZ, so if they told us tonight the game would no longer be supported, I would be very upset but MAN its been a good run. I feel like I’ve been ripping them off.

Oh, I get it.

Where do i find .308 rounds!?!
Judged_Guitly replied to ZombieEvolution's topic in General Discussion
They can be found all around the NWAF. people will give them to you and you dont even have to ask. Be advised you may get them one at a time and they'll be coming at a pretty quick pace but rest assured you'll have all you can handle in no time. Dont forget to thank your contributors. ;) -
Gamma and Brightness - Night Play
Judged_Guitly replied to SirEpicTickles's topic in General Discussion
It would be very noble of you to play the game the way everyone should be playing but unfortunately everyone else isn’t doing this. I play almost exclusively on night time servers (not by choice, between work and sleepy time Chernarus is under cover of moonlight) and I almost never see anyone using flashlights. Once in a while someone will pop off a flare but it’s usually fresh spawns on the coast. Once I get inland I seldom see artificial light being used and I’ve have had a $hitload of encounters. If someone adjusts their render, are they cheating? How about spamming apples, suicide glitch, stacking ruined ammo, officer tent glitch, teamspeak after death, manipulate terrain quality, peeking through a wall, server hopping, crawling underwater, field of view, all of these are bugs/exploits. I watch a lot of high profile streamers and I keep hearing “if it doesn’t give you a tactical advantage it’s okay”, but doesn’t any exploit give you an advantage? If you were in Electro and I was in Cherno and we’re both yellow thirsty and hit a water source at the same time but you spam drinking and I drink normal. Let’s say a random event spooks us both to move out. You head west, I head east and we meet in the middle. I’m still yellow because in my time at the well I only managed one drink but you filled up in seconds. Who has created an advantage? Albeit a small one, your manipulation has given you a slight edge and if throughout your session you add in a couple more minor exploits, what’s the harm? It seemed at the time there was no tactical advantage but what about a strategic advantage? In the 30th edition game developers conference Eugen spoke about exploits in the video “Once a cheater, always a cheater”. He defines exploits as: “Using ingame bugs basically to gain an unfair advantage. It’s something that we leave behind, for the most part as game developers, and people find it and use it.” He glossed over this talking point pretty quickly and moved on to talk about serious hackers. As pseudo testers we discover bugs and report them to the throne. That is if there’s a working mechanism to do so. I’ve got several bugs to report and I’ve read other post claiming the same but I assume because of the new render it’s pointless for them to judicate our 59 discoveries since 60 will be its own proving ground. I know I’m the pot calling the kettle black because I admit to using gamma shine (Movie Pitch Black reference) but I’m not going to sacrifice many hours of gearing up if I’m the odd man out. I would enjoy playing night servers the way its intended if everyone else was on the same playing field. It might be fun running around Chernarus dependent on a light strapped to your head but if the rest of the server is playing with gamma glasses, well, When in Rome. Now somewhere in all this jibba jabba I got off track so I’ll end with this: I don’t like exploiting the system but if it’s not addressed at a higher level and a blind eye is ever turned then I don’t feel guilty over it, and if you meet me in the field you won’t find me carrying a flashlight. Let the backlash commence! -
Fellow testers, I've discovered a nasty bug/glitch that needs to be brought to the attention of the Devs but when I click on the "Bug Reporting Link", it shows the "under maintenance screen" we all saw when the forum went down. Does anyone have an alternate link I can use to get some attention on this? No need for trolls, I'll be keeping these cards close to my chest. Thanks for your civilized responses.

I saw this on some gaming show or a gadget show about 6 months ago. I dont remember the name of the show or the game it was being designed for but there is a company working on this technology. They took a picture of a persons face an added it to an avatar. They were talking as if it was the next step in gaming evolution. I thought it was amazing and would love to see it introduced.

As mentioned before, the only difference between hardcore and regular is the view perspective. Server titles that have "triple loot" or "no loot" or "extra heli crashes" or "friendly PVE only" or anything that draws your attention is just carnival barking. Server admins do not have the ability to increase or decrease the amount of loot, spawn or restrict crash sites, or prevent malicious people from joining their servers. Admins can however, password their servers, whitelist (you have to apply to enter) their server, and enable or disable persistence (items you collect will survive restarts). Some server admins are more active than others and are more likely to respond to reports made by players such as assassins on a PVE friendly servers, but be well advised, it does not provide you with a hazard free environment. Someone can kill you on a PVE server just as easily as if it were a PVP. There's just a higher likelihood that the offender could be banned. But you would have to die to make the accusation. Don't drink the koolaid! Be alert no matter what server you join. Player interaction is dictated by the players not the admins. EDIT: sorry if I repeated NL, He posted while I was typing.

I have a PSO-1-1 (P) and a Suppressor East but the suppressor is damaged. PM me if your interested. If so give me a general idea where your character is located and I'll choose a spot between us and drop off a barrel for you to retrieve at your convenience.

I have one. Don't remember where I picked it up.

I hope you don’t mind a little constructive criticism. -I wasn’t sure about the gun shop idea because I didn’t know if there were gun shops in the Czech Republic but after a little Googling I seems that guns are common in the culture. I like the idea of going to a shop to craft or repair. But there would have to be some sort of skill set for balance. -Improvised tents, Double hell yes! -Flint locks, I don’t think it would be worth the amount of effort it would take to implement. I believe you would have a weapon that people would just pass up and all that development would have been in vain. -Bounties: Like the idea but this would have to be done by word of mouth or notes. Remember this is an apocalypse and there’s no electricity to run computers. Maybe a bulletin board at the police stations. The player scan is a bit too futuristic for the time line this game is set in. -I think keeping water sources away from military locations is a better dynamic. It forces (or should force) players out of the zone to refresh. It doesn’t always work (supplies can be loot from the dead) but sometimes it keeps people from camping. -I agree with hunger and thirst. There’s no way I could consume the amount of water and food my player has to take in. I understand that it’s supposed the penalty of foot travel but sometimes I wonder if it’s not over exaggerated. Now for my list so you can bash. Some have been said by others and I’m just regurgitating. -Sunglasses. The glare is way over magnified. With morning glare, evening glare and night time there are only a few hours of prime daylight playtime. The sun shouldn’t look as if I’m staring through a dirty windshield. -Digging. The possibilities are fun to imagine. -We should be able to spray paint anything. Tents, hard hats, cars or whatever. A can of paint is a can of paint, right? -Better camouflaging. Right now tents and gorka clothing have a little shine to them and can be easily seen with a trained eye. At night if you turn up the gamma, they glow like beacons. We should be able to incorporate standing vegetation into our clothing. -Public servers should have staggering time clocks. Currently when I get off work its night time and when it cycles back to daylight, it’s late and I have to go to bed. -Lootable zombies. They were people once, why can’t they have a pocket knife or handkerchief? -Fresh kills turning zombie. Make it a little more difficult to run back to your gear if it fights back. Could also throw a wrench in squad assault plans. -More helicopter spawn points. Not just in fields but in the woods or other places that are difficult to access (ravines, rocky areas, mountain tops). -More sorting options for the server menu. Ability to exclude certain words at the same time you search for other words (ie… search for Veteran but exclude Vilayer). Don’t restrict the searchable words to only be in the server name but also hive and mode. -Ability to hold any item in your hands. -The ability to store container items (backpack, jacket) in a larger container (barrel, tent) without having to unload it. It takes up the same amount of space, why the unnecessary steps? Edit: sorry for the repeats. People were posting while I was writing.
