Upgrading my rig with DayZ in mind - AMD or Intel?
Knight_Solaire replied to ZomboWTF's topic in New Player Discussion
Sorry if I'm kind of hi-jacking this thread. But I had a few questions. How do some of you guys that have these high-end desktops get such poor FPS in cities? 17-18 FPS in cities would be unbearable for me. I'm currently using a laptop (Hate on me if you will. "There's no such thing as a gaming laptop. Blah blah" But I honestly use a recliner as my computer chair and it works freakin' awesome (Comfort wise) with my wireless mouse and laptop (that sits on a cooling pad/platform to breath). I'm no computer wiz, but here a my specs. GTX 860M Intel i7 4700 HQ @ 2.4Ghz. 16 GB RAM 1 TB HDD (EDIT) *Forgot that I have TWO 1 TB HDD with RAID 0 (?) Enabled. The one that makes them rune as if they are one unit. If it matters. I paid the company to overclock my CPU / GPU settings. Since it was a brand new present to myself I didn't want to risk messing up it by listening to some random youtube video. I know the max overclock on the CPU is 3.4, though I forget if they set it that high. I've been playing day z for some time now and have always set my graphics to the lowest settings. I get good FPS everywhere which is why I am confused. Why do you guys get shitty FPS in cities? I realize that you have your settings maxed out, but then if that is the case.. shouldn't you just lower them some? Also, should I, or COULD I run at higher than minimum settings? Im not sure if its something to be tweaked but I find it really annoying when I'm scoping in on a building and the texture constantly flips between high-res and basically no res (Proper terms?). Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -
Im sure we've all heard it before "Its a game, not real life." OR "It's alpha!" But honestly, do you know how much your body would sweat when sprinting around a city wearing a MINIMUM of say, 15 pounds of gear? Most rifles alone are usually at least 8 pounds. Fire axes have to be at least 10. (There's one here at my work. It's much heavier than I expected) I've done things similar to this when I was in the military; and let me tell you man, you'd be surprised how much water you can drink and still be pissing dark yellow (Which means you're basically dehydrated) when you're carrying around your gear and constantly moving. It makes me laugh to look at my character who has an SVD, FNX, Fire axe, High cap vest, 10+ cans of food and 3 full water bottles, and at least 200 rounds of ammunition. That's a LOT of weight. Poor guy. For me this only happens in high pop servers. Like 50/50. I assume its just server lag. ^ This. As I mentioned above.

As long as you don't cross the visible "Line" that exists out there. Works fine for me.

how to navigate to big cities without signs/compass/map when it is day?
Knight_Solaire replied to thomas05's topic in New Player Discussion
You have to say "Backpack" in a loud voice over the push to talk. Then when all of your items start floating around you, you have to make sure to say "Map". Oh, and be on the lookout for a fox with a bandit mask on. If you see him, make sure you yell "Swiper no Swiping!" -
Thorough internet search huh? So you're telling me that you google'd "How to fix broken leg, day z standalone" and couldn't find a clear answer? Yeah... Im calling bullshit. Go away troll.

best place to find food and weapons?
Knight_Solaire replied to Arrtimus's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't do it! -
Just put your tents way out in the west in the debug/non terrain area of the game. People in the mod did it. Streamers do it. I do it. We all do it. Anyone who has the time to go out there and run the entire outskirts of the edges of the map DESERVES to have your stashed loot.

Go away troll. No beans for you.

The research I've done on shock is that it degrades at 30/sec. So 45 seconds is -1350 shock. If the old caps remain of 5000 shock/health... That'd mean that ballistic helmets and vests offer a substantial amount of shock resistance now. IF that hit really was for 11k shock damage.
-
Unless I've heard wrong, wasn't there some sort of changes to the damage system? The sporter has always taken 1-3 headshots. I wouldn't even expect a 22 round to go through a ballistic helmet, though I don't feel like searching for that information. I don't think its a case of shots not registering, but more of the new damage system taking place. Seems that vests and headgear are actually worth using now. I've taken shots to the chest with nothing but a flash of the screen, no bleeding. Pretty much what would happen in real life if you had a true ballistic rated vest. You'd have one hell of a bruise, maybe a cracked rib, but you'd be fine.

Though I admit I haven't used a shotgun this patch. If they received a buff then I agree with you on their use. So many firefights go down in close quarters.
-
Hate me if you want; but it's not a clip. Its a magazine! And the shotguns are trash man. There's so many instances where I've been shot by one, or shot someone with DIRECT impact and they've somehow survived. They're seriously underpowered.

how to get dayz to run better without turning graphics down loads?
Knight_Solaire replied to JarheadLeeds's topic in General Discussion
I get 40+ fps in cities easily. And I'm on a laptop. 2.7 ghz overclocked I believe, gtx 860m. Not to insult your intelligence, but for me the biggest change in FPS was changing my rendering resolution to the correct setting. Its often overlooked and can make the game run better while looking better. But its all voodoo magic in the end. I know people with better rigs than my own that get terrible FPS. There's so many factors that come into play, one of which is that the game is in alpha. -
Instead of inciting a huge debate over which gun is more powerful or arguing over who's dick is bigger because he can kill a 12 year old equipped with an akm by using a blaze rifle, lets AGAIN, stick to the topic. If it hasn't already been said (And I'm sure it has) if we take this as a real world survival situation. If anarchy breaks out here in the states, most people are going to be carrying their weapons out in the open. They're going to be loaded. That person Is going to have ammo on them. So ASSUMING that at least SOME of the population would have figured out that there was a freakin' disaster going on, they'd be grabbing their home defense weapons and keeping themselves armed to the teeth. So yeah, at least SOME weapons should spawn with magazines loaded, or a few rounds in the chamber. How many of you own a handgun but don't own a matching magazine? Doesn't make much sense does it?

When will the Sway be fixed?
Knight_Solaire replied to GhostSlayer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I realize that its a video game; but unless you've done anything even remotely related to combat shooting then you should please just stop talking. The sway is actually pretty damn good in my opinion. Your breathing plays a huge factor in shooting (accurately anyway). I challenge any of you to load up with the same amount of gear that your player is carrying into a real life scenario. Sprint 50 yards and then attempt to maintain a 6 inch shot group at 100 yards. I'd be willing to bet money that you couldn't. -
Well damn, how the hell do people hoard so much gear then? My only explanation would be that they have a group of people to help pick everything up?

What I have: Lots of protector cases (W/P) 1x AKM mag (30) 1x AKM Drum (75) 3x Grenades 3x Flashbang Ammo can full of: AKM ammo (1 box), MOSIN ammo (1 box) Full TTSKO (Im wearing it now, but I freakin' hate TTSKO) Fully decked FNX (Not sure If I want to trade it though, unless its a offer that intrigues me.) W/ 3x Mags (No spare ammo though, but they are all loaded. Ghillie materials X.x Edit: I have a LOT of 60 rd m4 mags, (like 5 or 6) I'd be willing to trade a few. Cuz' I mean, like I'll ever need that many?! =D x.X What I want: M68 Jacket. Green (if it exists?) or Tan (I know this one exists) <--- Green Preferred. Ghorka Summer pants/top. (If you don't have a jacket, I'd consider a ghorka summer top instead.) Interested in one of my items, but don't have what I want? Go ahead and message me anyway, I DO need to get rid of this stuff. Just have an offer that is at least fair for the both of us. For example, don't offer to trade your blaze double rifle for my fully decked FNX. You can add me on steam!: FullMetalBAMF (my picture is a knight with a sun-shield) All of the above applies to public 3rd person hive. Also, can someone please answer this quick question? If servers reset every Wednesday, and I were to have a tent full of gear; do I have to empty my tent to be able to pack it up? and do I have to pick up ALL the gear or it will disappear?

to the guy i killed at Bolota ATC with 5 pelican cases full of ammo and grenades:
Knight_Solaire replied to anarky321's topic in General Discussion
Well whatever adds you're looking at, they're clearly not selling anything. I've seen people selling full loadouts for 5$. These gear sets are obviously duped, of course. But I agree with some of the people who have posted; just because someone has a lot of gear doesn't mean they've paid for it, or had it duped for them. You don't even have to server hop to get good gear, just play at the times when all of the little children of the world are either in school, or in bed. Personally I play for an hour or two before I go to work, 5-7 am. Tons of loot, no KOS'ers. -
I think the mp5 is amazing! Its a submachine gun people, it's firing handgun ammunition. AKA its not going to have a lot of stopping power. If one uses it for what it was designed for; CQB (Correct me if im wrong), then it truly shines. Back when my boys actually used to get on, we'd go PVPin the major cities. Back then i'd roll with a mosin, and usually players would attempt to move up on me after hearing my gunshots. Pulling an mp5 out of my back and returning fire within a building usually results in their death, my survival. You simply can't beat that rate of fire. In such close quarters, you don't need range.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
Knight_Solaire replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This forum is pretty old, and most of the things I want have already been mentioned. Proper current U.S.Military uniforms, if we have NATO choppers, we should have NATO Uniforms. Woodland MARPAT digi camo would do pretty good in chenaurus, in my opinion. Matching backpacks! Hydration systems integrated into backpacks Facepaint! The ability to USE SPRAYPAINT ON ANYTHING. If I have a giant green hiking backpack, why cant I use my can of black spraypaint to make it SOMEWHAT TACTICAL? Of course these items SHOULD be rare, as any normal civilian wouldn't own these sort of things. As mentioned before, a clothing layers/customization option should be added. If I can find a military-grade poncho, why cant I wear it over my gear to prevent it from getting wet when it is raining? Why cant I wear a cotton shirt underneath my Ghorka jacket? Why can't I roll the sleeves of my camo blouse? A lot of this is simply for looks/customization. But if they could add these things eventually, i'd be stoked! -
Is there a way to circumvent the "weapon sheath/unsheathe" bug?
Knight_Solaire replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
Going into 3rd person wouldn't show your character doing the glitch. As far as I know it's a lag issue. I believe that one fi is to go prone, and put away your weapon for a few seconds, then stand up, and take it back out. -
Have you ever run into the only other guy on the server?
Knight_Solaire replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Happened to me on my last death. 3 players in the server including me. (Flame me if you must) Had just found a truck and was driving my heli-loot route. Out of freakin' nowhere I get rammed by ANOTHER truck, and roll onto my driver side. Luckily I have experience with crashing my own vehicle, so I knew to get out the passenger side. Managed to get out before he could get his truck moving again, and proceeded to play cat/mouse as I ran to a nearby tree. I tried yelling at the guy that I didn't want any trouble, but he insisted on trying to run me over. Used the tree as cover from becoming immediate road kill, and proceeded to shoulder my m4 and fire at the cab. Truck stops moving and sits there idling. Carefully moved up and opened the door, and his body falls out. Ruined hat and skull balaclava, the rest of the gear was undamaged. Took what I needed and proceeded to take HIS truck, since mine was now flipped over. Continued driving down the main road over a hill, and barely missed (intentionally) the only other player on the server who appeared to have hardly any gear. So yeah, 2 other players on the server and I run into them within 10 minutes of joining. Crazy. (Died right after as I met with a kid I was supposed to trade with. Got shot in the face upon arrival. >.>) -
I think they need to figure out a way to reduce the impact/power of gamma/brightness in the ''night'' servers. I'm one of the players that doesn't mind joining a night server, but I always end up turning my gamma/brightness all the way up. The only reason I do this is because I know that the chances of another player I encounter doing the same are very high, and If I'm wandering around in the dark with default settings and my weapon flashlight on, said player will easily be able to hide from me, or engage me within the darkness. I don't really see FOV as a problem, as it may give them the advantage of range, but in no way influences their ability to put rounds on target; not to mention that It makes them REALLY easy to flank.
