  1. "this alien plasma cannon can't be illegal to use because it is not named specifically in my nations gun control laws". While I understand your frustration at being banned, these weapons are not meant to be in the game at all - They are not meant to be used at all. That goes for both players and hackers. Remember that these are guns that, as far as the mods universe is concerned, does not exist. As an adult, if you start playing around with random stuff you've never seen before, you will eventually get your fingers blown off. It's not just against the rules, it's a rather silly idea from the viewpoint of an authentic Chenarus experience. Also, to sostronk (and anyone else blabbing on about BE). Please be a good boy and take some reading classes, the OP has posted already that this has nothing to do with global bans, only on a single server.

    Sins of a hacking gamer...

You are going to be getting so massively flamed for posting this, but I will still give you props for one thing at least - Having the balls to not only realize the shit you've done, but coming here and admitting to it publicly and accepting what comes your way. And yes, you do deserve all of the hate and the ban. You cheated in an online environment, end of discussion. To all others - Feel free to hate him for what he did (a fairly simple cheat that did not actually harm anyone), but at least be mature enough to keep it civil and respect his willingness to open up and admit to his actions.

Me, My bike and the tents you own.

wufnu, did you have a point in there somewhere? Of course he is a lone wolf, but most lone wolves would not tear apart the entire camp just for the giggles, they'd take what they could and keep the rest for a later raid. Having your camp raided is entirely reasonable, I never said anything else. But he needs to be honest with why he does it instead of making up reasons. The OP assumes that he is taking away power from item-hoarders and large groups, but he cannot in any way confirm that. It could just as easily be a small family that players together and needs multiple vehicles to transports everyone when they go out for food (yes, this is a fairly silly example, but my point stands). Getting sniped or otherwise killed by random bandits is part of the game, destroying camps likewise. But coming up with some vague justification based entirely on preconceptions for it, rather than just admitting he's a douchbag is just pathetic to me.

Me, My bike and the tents you own.

I think I would almost respect you if you weren't making stupid assumptions to justify it. Going around assuming that anyone with a camp at the edge of the map is a server hopper and that items in camps need redistributing? Retarded line of thought. Loot is not influenced by how many tents there are and not everyone is a server hopper. Be brave enough to admit that you do it simply because you like to wreck other peoples work and we can all respect your actions as those of a simple douchbag.
  5. Good post, deserves to be stickified, either her or on the Ban Appeals forum. Provided the information is good of course :)

Did I make the right weapon choice?

Admins don't have access to kill all commands... Only hackers do.

    Rocket Disciplined for 1.7.1

Bear in mind - alot of the previous posts were him setting up his "20 words or less" and replying to things in the many 1.7.1 threads that were created, it was not necessarily development-oriented. Now they are taking their time to get the next patch out and until it drops, the amount of posts they make will likely be smaller. I'd wager it will pick up again slightly once we start uncovering horrible bugs in 1.7.2 during large-scale testing (and have a chance to feedback on it).
  8. I found 3 helicopters within 800m of each other on one server (EU), and then spent 4 hours unable to find even one on another (DE). That does not mean that the spawns are more or less prevalent on any server. They all run the same mission file, hence there can not be variations in loot outside of simple RNG flukes. It makes bad luck streaks a lot easier to stomach if you decide it's the server though. I went through 6 supermarkets, 4 churches, 3 barns and a good dozen wooden huts without finding any compass, watch or weapons at all on my current life. Was it fun? No. But it was random.

    6200 blood.. coma.. dead

I have taken rather severe damage from single hits on occasion as well so it is not impossible that zombies simply do enormous damage sometimes. At 6k blood though, you likely got knocked unconscious and bled out or got eaten. Less likely to happen if you keep your blood above 10k whenever possible
  10. Random loot is random. Amazing isn't it?

    M1014 cant reload?

M1014 and Winchester takes different kinds of ammo. Are you looking at 2rnd shells for the double-barrel or the 8rnd for the m1014? Try right-clicking and see what sort of message you get.

    Crashed Choppers, What's the go?

I just cleaned out 4 crashed helicopters today, plenty of loot so keep at it. They do spawn in different locations after a server reset and they can take a good while to find any. I've seen them pop up in the same location on different servers, so it seems like they have a bunch of places that they can spawn and they are randomly chosen on restart.
  13. If you need the download, go grab the torrent if at all possible - takes a few tries for the request to go through, but the torrent file is small so we are putting less strain on the servers than trying to get the whole damn thing down. I will be seeding with 15 mb/s, for at least a couple of hours and on request later (grab me on Steam, or through PMs here). I can also send you the .torrent file if you are having issues, but in that case have patience as I may not be able to reply right away.
  14. If it is a BE problem, then no one here can help you as they do not have control over those systems. Try contacting the BE staff themselves if you are sure it is related to that.
  15. This needs to be seen by more people - the aggro is quite significant in the latest patches, but this is proof that single zombies does not need to end your characters life. Similar things can be done in the large brown barns with side entrances (get in through the big double doros, duck into the side, go prone and GTFO as fast as possible) by the way, although it seems a bit more hit-n-miss.

how do i downgrade to 1.7.0

Since no one seems to actually answer you... The easiest way is probably to grab the 1.6.0 torrent from the mirror folder "old" and the 1.7.0 code files, replace the ones from 1.6.0 with the 1.7 ones and you are set. As the others say however, the amount of servers you will find is TINY, and it will only decrease as servers update.
  17. If you are familiar with torrents, I can recommend the 1.7.1.1 torrent file from the download mirror - the .rar file is already formatted so you can just drop the extracted folder into your arrowhead folder.
  18. Lag is generally a fair problem in this game - Desyncs seem to be a fairly common occurrence, especially if you hit US primetime. Desyncs/lag become especially noticeable if you get above 100 ping (to me, at least). It will usually manifest itself in players "warping" around, or seemingly getting stuck in the same place. You should also be prepared for a fair amount of server resets and lost connections. Glitches are to be expected, DayZ is still in alpha after all, the main ones that will affect your gameplay are spawning in odd places, movement issues and zombies attacking through walls, alongside issues with dropped items and Inventory/Backpack interaction. All in all, yes there are a ton of issues, but most of the time you learn to either live with them or avoid them. Currently I would hold off as the latest patch kinda messed up a bunch of systems. Give it a week or two, see where Rocket and his team takes it with hotfixes and extra patches, then make your decision IMO. I am not a US player however, so I can't help you on US specific problems beyond the obvious lag issues, sorry.

Holy shit! Everyone has gone insane

I would suggest we don't jump to too many conclusions on the PvP activity - Obviously right now we have a lot of players killing respawned characters left and right, but will this actually continue or will the bandits move off in search of more profitable kills. At this point it is simply too early to tell. Give it a week or so to gauge how bad it gets (and remember to always check multiple servers!), then we can see about coming up with suggestions to deal with whatever situation we may end up with.
  20. I thought of this while discussing this topic with a friend of mine, a new forum specifically designed for Feedback reports - Set up a form/template in a sticky that players can use to create an easily read feedback thread and police the forum heavily - As in any posts that deal with anything not related to the topic of the thread is deleted entirely. General Discussion will always be the place to go for new ideas and features, but a dedicated forum where we can leave rational feedback, with a strictly enforced set of rules seems like it would be a solid place to go for the devs to see what the response is to any given feature. Could also be a good place for stickied versions of Rockets "in 20 words or less" threads. Any opinions on this idea? If we can get one solid forum, maybe we can from there build out and in time improve the other forums as well.

Tips and discussion for new players.

Very nice tips - Here is a quick writeup on stances in DayZ. Always remember to balance out the speed with which you are moving with 3 other factors - Targeting, Emergency situations and Objective. Targeting - When moving rapidly (running) you are very large target. Your movement is predictable and your silhouette is quite large, even from a distance. Your own fast movement also makes it difficult for you to line up your own shots, so you are more or less defenseless. These two factors increase the risk of running by quite alot. Crouching (roadie-run) provides a smaller targeting profile, at the cost of speed. Make your choice, but don't assume that any one stance will always serve your purpose. Emergency Situations - Sometimes, things go wrong (ambush, friends needing help, zombie detection and so forth). Here, the advantage of the roadie run becomes important - it lets you get up and run quicky (the animation begins and ends without your char stopping). Prone is stealthy, but makes it hard to react quickly. Again, use your own judgement, how important is quick reaction, and what do you need to be ready for. Objective - We all have our own objectives. Looting, killing zombies, killing players, exploring, whatever. Always balance your speed with your goal. If you are travelling a long distance, speed is often good, but do be careful. If you are looking for buildings or are worried about zombies, less speed may increase you chances to respond effectively. More guides for new players are always good, let's get this going!

1.7.1 in 20 words or less

Tune the sight range down slightly, make sure the damage doesn't get excessive and fix the new bugs.
  23. Too true rotekz. Negative critique is one of the most important factors in improving any product, but not everyone are capable of taking it well (I'm one of them :P). I would personally welcome a more aggressive approach from the forum moderators/admins, but for that to work we need a solid set of rules that they, and we, can refer to. Perhaps we can push the culture on this forum a little in the right direction. A more civilized atmosphere would also help alot in getting some meaningful feedback to the devs. I hope.

For those who Love and Hate 1.7.1

Spawn rates and the issues with attacking through walls (I guess the Raytracing that is mentioned in the patch notes is the reason for this, since they were unable to resolve all issues in time) seems to me to be the main issues that needs to be dealt with before 1.7.1 is really playable. Damage seems a bit over the top (I've heard stories of people loosing several thousand points of blood to a single hit from a zombie), but this is probably an easier thing to tune than stuff like spawn rates. I definitively agree with the "too many factors at once" thing. LoS/increased damage would probably have done a good job on their own, but speed, damage, spawn rates (bug, I know) and the increased range (leading to more wall-hacking Z's) was probably too much all at once.

    Northern Zombies.

Not sure what sort of game justification you'd use for them, especially since the greater population would be near Cherno/Elektro so that zombie variety would actually be greater there. I do like the idea, but it would have to be handled quite delicately I think. A potential pitfall would be that it would further incentivize bandits to staying near the coast, a big problem with the new defenseless respawns, since the zombies threat would be greater than it is now (obviously). I'd say the current distribution of weapons is ok, no need to focus more on north spawns, they already have places like Stary and the 2 airfields after all. Further risk might not be a bad thing there... Maybe simply give the enhanced sight/movement to Soldier zombies (if at all possible)
