Journals/Diaries for writing down Events.
skipper1993 replied to TonyStarks's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I really hope Rocket is made aware of this idea, I dont think it would be too difficult to impliment. Also I love the potential for people to leave warnings about areas that are overrun with bandits (server specific issue), or the idea that people could leave tent and stash co-ordinates in their journals. -
Journals/Diaries for writing down Events.
skipper1993 replied to TonyStarks's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This would be amazing, it would add depth, immersion, emotional gravity or even humour, massive ammounts of benifits. you could find a dead guy, read his journal, he broke his leg jumping off a roof while escaping zeds, he crawled for days trying to find a hospital, but finally died of starvation. Loads of possibilities along those lines, it would add backstory to every corpse your find, sometimes sad, sometimes funny. I suggest as a game mechanic it works as follows: every player is bound to a journal, they can use it if they want or just ignore it, its 100% optional, it doesnt take up any inventory space, it simply exists within your gear screen in its own area, you cant drop it or remove it from dead players, so there is no need or worry regarding "how to carry found diaries" you simply have a journal in your inventory and it takes up no space and cannot be removed, un realistic yes, but this is a game, and this is the best way to impliment this feature in my opinion. -
I like this idea, but then again, my opinion is biased, I'm a musician...

An Idea to Stop most of the PvP
skipper1993 replied to THEOTHERJESTER's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like this idea, its much more realistic as long as its not over done. I think even if it did not cut down on overall pvp it would definatly cut down on back stabbers. Imagine you are clearing a house with someone you literally just met, there isnt a lot of trust in the air, but you still have to turn your back to loot a pile of supplies in the corner, your new found ally sees you aquire something valuable and then kills you for it, because he has the advantage with you not looking, he has no risk, and he gets what he wants/needs. Now this would not happen if firing your gun meant bringing down the hoard, or it would at least cut down the back stabbing behaviour, it would definatly make people think twice over shooting their ally for a specific item when in a zombie populated area, the risk is not worth the reward. You could feel somewhat safer around strangers, because you know that only a moron would kill you and bring all the zombies you just past down on himself just for the ak you picked up. -
Bury survivor to regain humanity
skipper1993 replied to A Man Named GOB's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think its a good idea, if you find a random dead survivor, you can loot the body because nobody else has, then bury them to show respect as their death has given you supplies to survive, you did all you could do, thus you gain humanity. As for bandits killing survivors, losing humanity, then burying them to gain some back, if burying the body took longer than simply hiding it that would definatly balance that out, bandits want to get the kill, get the loot, then get away from the area asap, not a lot of people would stop and go through the procedure of burying the corpse just for a bit of humanity, when good bandits put a fair ammount of planning into attacks, essentially the risk is not worth the reward for a bandit. Good idea man ;) -
Health mechanics:a study of the tap like man.
skipper1993 replied to invalidangles's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with this, when I get in a fist fight I dont spring leaks and drain of all my blood in 5 minuets from taking a hit to the arm. As for the biting thing, most zombies dont even have a lower jaw... -
Character wipes with patch releases
skipper1993 replied to Fiddlesticks's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think this is 100% a good idea in terms of testing, but it also adds something in terms of balance and shit -
Like I said, I didnt even physically play the earlier versions, only watched them and I can tell the zombie detection is abit off (ive read all recent patch notes). As a noob, people keep giving me requested beginner tips like "to survive in this game, sneak effectively, trust me I'm a pro" and when I put it to practice exactly as instructed within 5 min I find myself running for a steep hill unless I prone everywhere I go when in infected areas. I agree with the posters above, I like the challenge, but I also want to be able to sneak effectively without having to live my life in cities in prone.

I think the problem with the "two player" idea is that you dont want to have too many actions in this game that require more than one person, there are still lots of people who either choose to play alone because of personal preference or have to play alone because they have no choice, if you add lots of features like vaulting and blood transfusions (which is the only reasonable way to aquire a decent ammount of blood) that require two or more people then you alienate lone wolves, you make it more difficult for them, and you deny them the ability to complete basic game features.

I fully agree that this needs serious thought and consideration. I am fairly new to DayZ (as of 1.7.1) so from my "in game" personal perspective the sneaking has always been fucked on account of the recently fixed "zombie sight based on eyes not body direction" issue that was rolled back to an earlier version with the 1.7.1.1 patch. However before buying Arma II and getting this mod I had spent literially days on youtube watching others play the game and they could navigate towns and cities relatively easily so long as they stayed in "crouch mode" and did not run or sprint through the area. However even after the patch I joined on was reverted it is still next to impossible to get through a zombie populated area without pissing them all off and them suddendly sprinting towards me from all directions before I've even seen them, which is weird cause I always figured the way zombies were supposed to work was: Zombies have way worse sight than humans but they have way better hearing and smell, I mean every zombie fan knows this, its kinda like the un spoken rules, I mean c'mon most infected dont even have eyes? How can they see me better than I see them? I'm not a moron, I know how to sneak, replicating what I observed from others who did it flawlessly. However now it just feels impossible to get through a city or town unless totally prone, which means it takes forever to clear a town for supplies and most importantly leaves you as a massive target for other players. I dont want to have to prone through every zombie populated area throughout the game. It takes too long (I dont have all day to play this game unfortunately) It makes me a massive target for bandits But if I dont I get swamed by zeds that I cant fight off because I spawn with no weapons, I'm all for challenge, but this is just borderline impossible... (This is not a rant, just a "bug" report, I appreciate this is an alpha n shit so dont patronize me, I love the mod, keep up the good work guys)

Looking for UK survivors.
skipper1993 replied to iogc_broadsword's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hi, my name is Rich, I'm a 19 year old from Leeds, I'm moderatly new to DayZ but I've played in the arma series for a few years, I'd love to join your group. Unfortunatly I dont have a working mic atm, but I will be getting one, just saving up for something good (I might buy something cheap just for a temp solution). This game is easier and definatly more fun together than alone, so I'd love to find some people I can trust to play with in game cause none of my current mates own this game. I havent actually had much trouble with bandits yet luckly (mostly to smart playing), but I cant say I want any encounters with the fuckers when I dont have anyone to watch my back. My steam name is the same as this forum one: "skipper1993" hopefully see you in the apocalypse... -
Hi, green as grass with dayz, but ive played arma for years. I was just wondering how it is possible to go about changing your character/player model/skin, is this done through the initial arma menu on the profile setup or is this done else where? Cause I cant find where, and in the typical old arma profile setup I can only change my face. Ive seen people on youtube playing the game and they were all wearing different skins and breifly talking about how they changed them (not in game clothing such as ghillie suits, im talking about your core character model that you spawn with. One of the guys in the video looked like steven spielberg lol) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)
