If you insist, I guess this is your guy: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14524 Seems like an OK guy, but I thought you should know.

Amusing. It was an immediate bug detected when they were closed testing before releasing it to us alphas.. Seeing it... Isn't it more of a full sized axe? I had envisioned more of a Rick Grimes style one handed hatchet... And it's a pleasant surprise to see not only a graphic for it, but an animation, too! Since I'm effectively being petty (sorry!), the name 'fireplace' has bothered me for a while. Where I am from, a fireplace is in your house, next to your living space. Outside it's a fire pit or some such... In any case, funny video!

The only time someone gets stabbed more than once and lives is when the person stabbing doesn't know what he's doing. In "crackhead with a screwdriver" cases' date=' yah someone can get stabbed 10 times and live cause they're just swinging wildly and the victim gets a hospital. You get a knife to the spleen once and you're going to be passed out in about 10 seconds from extreme drop in blood pressure/shock, dead in 30 from bleeding out. Knife to the lungs: deflated lung/sucking chest wound. Knife through the neck: carotid gets severed you pass out then bleed out, windpipe collapses, you choke to death on the air you're not getting. That's just with a knife, we're getting a hatchet. One good swing, even with a small hand hatchet directed to the back of your neck, and your spinal chord is severed. you're alive for about 15 seconds after that, realizing you're not breathing because the nerve impulses can't get to your lungs because there's a hatchet blade blocking it. Does it require surprise, yes, but is it far fetched, not at all. [/quote'] You're taking extremes, ideal circumstances with likely immobile targets. Which I get, given the "sledge hammer" illustration above. My point was... I woulldnt expect a "modern video game" quick stab mechanic in this game. I would be quite disappointed to see it. The people I've known who were stabbed (three), all survived and were mobile and sentient for quite some time afterward, if shocked. One of them fended off his attacker with a shovel. One of them bled for hours from a face wound before going to hospital. Anyway, I won't argue that a knife can kill.. I would argue that it's not likely, and nothing close, except in very specific circumstances, going to be a quick kill in the context of this game. We shall see how this develops. Are you saying that you favor the kind of killing you describe? Instant knife kills? I keep mentioneing knives because someone wished for them above, clearly thinking of current fps games with instant knife kills. To be honest, I think a hatchet would be more and less deadly. A swung weapon is easier to evade or minimize than a stabbing weapon. But it's got more lovage, more momentum, more weight... Wounds are slashier and less puncture... Still, I'd say you need that immobile target and that lucky shot to instant kill someone with even a hatchet. Gruesome stuff, though.

Stabbing and choppiing are messy affairs in real life. Guns we invented to avoid the ickimess of dismembering and repeatedly stabbing your shrieking and flailing opponent. Have you guys thought about your expectation of melee vs real life vs current video games and movies? I wouldn't expect that we will see "video game" style knifings in this game. People would rarely instantly die from a stab wound. Imagine... You sneak up... Not terribly likely unless the guy is afk... You stab him... He's holding a gun. You've surely heard the expression "bring a knife to a gun fight"? How I see it: Guy 1: have at you *stab* Guy 2: ouch. That fucking hurt *whirl, shoot* Guy 1: gak *messy heap of perforated meat hits floor* Guy 2: *bandage* *rummage backpack, take knife, throw on pile of looted "assassin" knives * How do you think something like a knife attack will shake out in DayZ PVP?

As a funny side feature, it could be used to signal friendliness at close range 'clickclickclickclick' not going to shoot you :P Too much to ask, but if there was a brief "taking safety off" animation, that would be swimming.

Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.2
Villa Straylight replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
So that means me and my friend arent the only ones experiencing this crippling unplayable FPS?. When will it be fixed?, i dont understand how so many servers can be full and operational with so many people having so much trouble. So we are not alone in the terrible FPS since patch?. Correct. I am sure rocket is aware of the fps issue. You are not alone. There have been other threads, and it has been mentioned repeatedly in this very thread. -
Why is there 10 ways to install, and none of them work...

I would bet what you're missing is either the fact that there is an alpha of Dayz, AND a beta of Arma II.... OR (and this is more likely), that you have to launch Arma in such a way that it launches the beta executable, not the non-beta. Incidentally, not to salt the would, but the first computer I built was also a 386, I'm early forties, and I did this quite easily from the first few posts in the 1.7.0 updaye thread when it was still experimental, and you needed a password to get in. It really is easy if you grasp the concepts... Honestly the only thying im missing is what you are trying to say to me. Who cares if DayZ is an Alpha and Arma is a "Beta"which its not BTW, its a BETA patch before the newest release. All im trying to do is streamline the process for those having issues with installing it. Im glad you are early forties and built some PCs in your life. That has nothing to do with this thread. People wanted help installing and playing the mod. That is what i provided here. As far as in-game issues you people have, take that up with Rocket. I'm sure hes got plenty of empty jars around to store the QQ in. Also...i made a thread with these instructions in there. Feel free to bump it for other people having ssues. Sorry to anyone who took offense to my post. Everyone ont hese forums needs to lighten up just a bit. Kinda like the in-game Night...baaa ziiiing Take a deep breath... there... Someone else mentioned that the install was very hard and offered proof that they had been building computers or some such and were in their early thirties. I was just offering counter-point to that. I took no offense from anyone and just offering what I see as the main reasons that people are having trouble, when they feel that they have installed properly. -

I would like to ask. I know that the "rolling update" threads are for feedback. Rocket, are you wanting people to ask about to for additional fixes in this hot fix, or what purpose can this thread serve to further the goals? -

PROTIP: Having a hatchet is going to be very useful.

Also, very Walking Dead (graphic novel, not TV show). That hatchet is practically a character. -

My prediction: melee similar to the zombie attack, probably scroll wheel, no animations. As someone said and as was done with the zombie attacks, basically a scripted, short range AOE. Welcome, nonetheless. I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out! -
