  1. Just to correct you in your rant he was already working for BiS when he offered up DayZ to the world as a free Mod and that it is in fact the design decsions of ARMA II not the RV engine it uses that causes the issues (ie. night time). What is happening with the standalone is that they are working on the pure engine not using it through an intermediary level of design decisions and limitations, there is only so much that can be done with scripts some configurations and choices need to be made at the Engine level these choices would conflict with those made for ARMA II. The use of RV4 (the updated engine that runs ARMA 3) will give them access to some newer bits of shiny but mostly the stand alone benefits much more from dropping the ARMA design layer (I expect most of the assets / tools and functionality will be used as is though).
  2. 11 hours around Stary and you expected them to be there :/. Lost 2 fully loaded Urals parked away from each other in 10 mins the other day in a very out of the way location that I know is usually very empty. unless you have a guard on Duty 24/7 it is only exceedingly good luck not to loose any thing any where on map.

    consider that 225km^2 is 15km on a side that = ~9 miles possible a little more reasonable. (Hint 225 square kilometers not 225 km on on side.) Plus do some ARMA research, speed is slightly tweaked for playability (sprint is 22km/h)

    I like this idea perhaps mp5sd mags and 9mmSD mags could be converted to Bizon (though something would need to be done on requiring differing numbers of mags as the Bizon has an enormous clip size).

    Yep both the Bizon and Fal you are only able to get the ammo with the gun (at crashed Helos) same as PDW (but many more possible locations) I believe (but that can use any other 9mm mag). so generally if you run out of ammo dump the gun as getting more ammo will also have another gun with it, conversely you can get a great stock pile of guns but no ammo.

    Yes they have and until serious issues with desync for pilots / passengers and the servers they are running on can be resolved.

    Very happy that global chat has gone :) disturbed by the range increase in direct though. Using direct chat with a 40m or even 80m :o is suicide in any environment where you do not have clear los greater than that range. I have personally been involved in ambushing a few groups using direct chat around towns nice and easy to identify their locations with and follow waiting for a nice safe point. There have been a number of times for my self in towns where I hear some one close by who I would prefer to talk to with out alerting every one around that I have either hidden from or just shot because using direct chat is to likely to alert other people further away. I would like to see a choice of 'direct channels' with ranges like 10m (talking quietly) 30m (chatting) 100m (shouting).
  9. YES. But I also like the randomised selection may be 5 items in total including the possibility of pistol, ammo, beans, water and med supplies. Would also like to see makarovs spawn in some places available out side of cherno / elektro on the coast.

    I am pretty sure more info here would be helpful, such as how long was it set to this for, was there any message in server name, was the server having issues prior to this (performance desync). Not being critical but with out any details it makes any investigation or categorisation a lot of effort and a possible waste of time.

Try that regularly and stay outside for more than a short time your vision will adjust to compensate a little, however you will also heighten other senses and begin to make judgments based more on inferrence than direct visual queues. Growing up in mid wales and spending years in back of beyond Ireland I can guarantee that it is possibly to run through wooded areas (with out masses of under growth which is impossible during the day time as well) even on over cast winters nights with little moon. On the worst possible case of no moon over cast / rainy night you will have to walk and perhaps stumble a little on low ground objects or bump into non bulky larger objects, but seeing people / trees walls etc. is still possible then. I play with gamma, brightness and HDR cranked all the way up in game all light sources in my room off and I can barley make out the side of the control tower at an airfield and only then due to a few a very patches that seem to stand out. This lasts the whole night period and has been so since 1.5.7 patch and on every server? this is not a weather issue or an environmental issue. The only thought I have for this is to make the game have a serious challenge and offer a more intense experience, this would be fine if it was 45 mins out of a 3-4 hour play session. but i get online 7pm - 8pm so that's 4 hours like this that is not even remotely challenging that's just plain unplayable. I just hope every one on US server enjoys shooting at my laggy warping butt.

    What is with spelling out Zeds? surly that is just Z its like people spelling the nick name J (from Jamie/James etc.) as Jay why! or conversely writing C as Cee. Any Way me I tend to call the Zombies - walkers, runners, hoppers or crawlers (when the mode of locomotion is needed to be conveyed) Z's if in a hurry and more details are not required. However the best one I heard the other day was 'Bees I shall now be using this in place of Zombies whenever I can.

    Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed

    Skin and all kills were not the right way to determine if some one was hostile or a bandit. We get 2 bonuses out of this, firstly we get to choose skins (and more stuff to scavenge) and secondly we get to look forward to a much more suitable possibly strangely unusual mechanic in the future based on PK's.

    MERGED: Night time, darkness, gamma

    Having lived in the middle of no where for many years I have only ever encountered darkness like this in one place that was a large hall with no lighting and heavy blackout shades over the very few windows, we opened the shades to let the light in (it was late winter 2am and quite overcast). This blackness Is unplayable I enjoy the new more numerous zombies and even can live with the insta spawns (as loot also re-spawns as fast), but that night I can safely if it stays I will be modding stuff. On the other hand the over cast nights with some moon where you can just see the grass as a light grey dusting is great and another great thing about arma.

    The last one is for myself

    I would love to see the option appear in the scroll list to end it all, this should be available when you have only a single bullet on you character (pouches / pockets or bag) for any of the weapons you are carrying (equipped or stored if possible). I dislike running out of ammo and having to run into a horde of zombies or using the respawn menu, It would be so fitting and a great way out after you have shot all your ammo and tried time after time to sneak into caches to find the wrong ammo or tin cans.
  17. I certainly agree with the sentiments here DayZ has leveraged the Simness of the Arma2 engine and enhanced them with grittiness, horror and suspense. However I would go a step further and say that what really makes this mod is chernarus there is no other map in any fps, adventure or MMO game I have found that can truly give you scale and variety along with allowing your natural expectations of how things should work valleys, hedges bushes where you would expect them etc. It adds such a huge element reality that you are completely immersed.

    Quick question

    So far there is no official statement regarding the future of the Mod with respect to ARMA3. There has been some canvasing of our opinions re payed for versions however. If it is difficult to justify the purchase of Arma2:CO and you only plan on using it for DayZ then my suggestion would be to wait for definite details. There will be IMHO 3 ways to part you with your money to play, the mod stays with Arma 2 (as free mod or paid for DLC/Expansion), the mod migrates to Arma3 (as free mod or paid for DLC/Expansion), the Mod is packaged as a stand alone Game (using either the Arma 2 or Arma 3 engines). Arma 3 is due out Q4 this year probably around the time the mod is ready for primetime so hanging on, hanging on until Rocket says something definite should not be to long. To be honest if I did not already have Arma:CO I doubt I would be spending money on it right now for the sake of a few months.

    Have you checked that you don't have another copy of the mod in another folder it should be in the operation arrowhead install location.

    The idea is not intended to fix any missing mechanics ad is not a critical feature that is missing, but as a suggestion to provide a little extra immersion and zombie apocalypseness to the game, just another little thing that makes you go WoW this really is how it would be.

    Possible counter to alt-f4

    Does not help the situation where you have some one cornered and trapped but out of direct LOS after they have ambushed you. While you are prepared to sit and wait them out they can just close game had head off to another server with out you being any the wiser (no name tags so the disconnect message us useless), any disconnect should include a local message and audible alert as well as a mandatory disconnect timer on all disconects.
