Yes, we both have our DayZ on HDD. Before reinstall I used Razer cortex defragmentation tool for DayZ folder and it made no impact on performance, but I'm not sure how effective this Razer tools is. Also my Win 8 runs "Optimize Drives" (previously called Disk Defragmenter) automatically on a weekly schedule. But I must agree that your argument is very good; somehow I forgot about defragmentation.

Hello survivors, In past few months I was experiencing unusual performance drop on DayZ, and literally couldn't play the game (i play on Acer aspire 5742G powerstation GT2, which isn't great laptop nowadays, but FPS outside cities used to be 30-60; after performance drop it was even lower then 30 FPS outside cities). It seems that performance dropped after patching the game, and none of these typical solutions didn't helped: 1) configuring cfg file, 2) changing steam parameters, 3) changing in-game video settings to lowest, 4) tweaking geforce DayZ profile, 5) using gamebooster. So i reinstalled the game and it actually fixed the problem. This is the second time when such reinstall solved my unusual FPS drop. My friend, who plays on similar spec laptop, also tried this and it solved his low FPS after patch 0.53. So for those who experience an unusual low FPS after patching the game and if any solution failed to fix it, just try old fashioned reinstall (especially if you have fast internet, because it doesn't take much time). Also, after reinstalling DayZ don't forget to check steam parameters and in-game settings, because reinstall may reset it to default. EDIT: Before reinstalling the game try defragmenting your DayZ folder. If anyone tries this, let community know about the results. RespectfullyKarolus
