Dayz: the Road to Beta - PAX Aus Presentation
TerribleTomato replied to edwin3's topic in General Discussion
^ sounds like a good way to combat server hoppers to me, or maybe a start to that idea... -
I love statistics, data is life. Recently someone posted about DayZ’s rank on steam, and how it was lower than unturned and killing floor 2. This post is NOT hating on DayZ. I love the game, I just thought some might want to see the avg. players because this information is probably unknown to many. Month Avg. No, its not a statement about anything I just stumbled upon that data and wanted to share it.

is there a way to retrieve items from the hidden part of tent inventory?
TerribleTomato replied to edwin3's topic in General Discussion
If the slots above are empty, on a server restart they should automatically move up. Clean up the space above the item so when the server restarts it should move up. -
^Lol at HD Graphics 1792. Must be a vintage item *sarcasm*

Incorrect. I have used the compass many times in this patch and have not gotten a incorrect reading. Tbh, you probably were not paying attention and went the wrong way. Always use a map and identify landmarks to confirm you are going the correct direction. If you are really paranoid about compasses, go on a night server and look for the north star. I have been using that for much longer than the compass and have never seen that be incorrect. Regards, TT

^ I agree. Server hoppers are abundant where there is loot. Gotta watch your back because there is always a behind you.

Brian Hicks was once asked if he would as pooping to the game to make the game "more realistic". His response was no and personally I feel they have bigger fish to fry than adding farting noises to make the game more 'funny' and more 'realistic'. I did enjoy your opinion however. Regards, TT

Game Launch Parameters First of all, open Steam, then click Library, find DayZ and right click on it. Select Properties, under the General tab click Set launch options. There you will add the Game launch parameters. Now you can add multiple commands which will help improving game performance. -cpuCount=# # How many cores your CPU has, for example: for a dual core cpu the number 2 (-cpuCount=2), for a quadcore 4 (4 is the maximum value). If you got a CPU which has more than 4 cores, see -exThreads parameter info. -exThreads=# # How many extra cores/threads your CPU has, see the list below: Amd cpus: -Dual Core: -cpuCount=2, -exThreads=1 -Quad Core: -cpuCount=4, -exThreads=3 -Six Cores: -cpuCount=4, -exThreads=5 -Eight Cores: -cpuCount=4, -exThreads=7 Intel cpus: -Dual Core: -cpuCount=2, -exThreads=1 -Dual Core with 4 threads: -cpuCount=2, -exThreads=3 -Quad Core: -cpuCount=4, -exThreads=3 -Quad Core with 8 threads: -cpuCount=4, -exThreads=7 -maxMem=# # The amount of Ram the game can use, if you got 2GB of Ram set it to 2048 - 1024(-maxMem=1024), 4GB 3072, 8GB 7168 and so on. By the way, the game shouldn't use more than 2048 mb of ram, so it's up to you to decide. -maxVram=# # How much ram your GPU has, 512MB, 1024MB, 2048MB, etc (-maxVram=1024 for example). -nosplash and -noPause # Will simply remove the splashscreen at game start and let the game work in background. ---In game settings--- Now we'll set up the in game settings. At the Main Menu, click on Configure, Video. Now set the Rendering resolution to your native resolution, the resolution next to 100%.Overall quality to Custom, VSync ENABLED if you don't have a 120Hz monitor. Now click on the Quality tab, here you'll see 4 options: Objects - decrease it if you haven't got a powerful CPU, Very low should be ok for 2-4 cores Amd Cpus and 2 cores Intel Cpus (2 Threads), low and normal for 2-4 cores Intel Cpus (4 Threads) and 6 cores Amd Cpus, high for 8 cores Amd Cpus and 4 cores Intel Cpus (4-8 Threads) and very high for 4+ cores Intel Cpus (8+ Threads). Terrain - it affects GPU, increase it if you got a powerful video card Clouds - leave it on Very low or disable it. Shadows - affects both CPU and GPU, turn it up if you got a powerful GPU.After you set up the quality settings, click on the Textures tab, here there are 3 settings: Video Memory - set it to Auto Texture Detail - If you got a good GPU set it to Very high or high (it doesn't cause FPS drops), otherwise turn it down. Texture Filtering - This is the anisotropic filter, it doesn't have a high impact on performance, so if you got a good GPU, set it to high or very high. Now, the last one, click on the Rendering tab Antialiasing - i suggest keeping it on because it smoothes the game, but if you get low FPS disable it. Disabling it you'll get a good fps boost. For the ones who have a good gpu: You should disable the antialiasing and increase the resolution, this will improve the system usage and grant you some more fps. Alpha to Coverage - if you didn't disable the antialiasing this option will be available, setting it to All trees + grass will not cause significant FPS drops if you set Antialiasing on low. Edge Smoothing - Leave it Disabled or set it to whatever you like, it doesn't affect the performance too much. HDR Quality - Set it on Very low Ambient Occlusion - Disable it for a good FPS boost in open areas and cities (about 15-20 FPS). Post Process Quality - I suggest to disable it, it has a medium impact on performance. If you disable it you won't see the blur effects anymore and so you won't be able to understand if your character is healthy or not. You should check how many fps you're getting with it disabled and then enabled to see which value suits best for your system. Bloom -Set it as you like Rotation Blur - Disable it or turn it up a little bit, it doesn't affect performance too much. ---Cfg settings: video and mouse tweaks--- In this section, you'll learn how to properly edit the configuration files, in order to gain some more fps. Max Frames Ahead. This fix will smooth the game, so open DayZ.cfg with the notepad (you can find it in C:\Users\Username\Documents\DayZ\), find the lines GPU_MaxFramesAhead=# andGPU_DetectedFramesAhead=# and set them to the same value (between 1 and 4) (GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1/2/3/4 and GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1/2/3/4). These settings won't increase your FPS but will give you the feeling as the game is running at higher FPS. ---Other improvements:--- Open the file named YourName (.DAYZPROFILE) located inC:\Users\Username\Documents\DayZ\ with the notepad. Now find the following lines: sceneComplexity=# - set it to a value between 200000 and 50000 (other values are 1000000, 750000, 250000 but they require a high end cpu), it will draw less elements and reduce CPU load. viewDistance=# - set it to a value between 1800 and 1200, it reduces the cpu and gpu load. preferredObjectViewDistance=# - it decreases CPU load, set it to 1000 (or between 800 and 1600); terrainGrid=# - Set it to one of these values: 50, 25, 12.5, 6.25, 3.125. Higher value = Better FPS, Lower value = lower fps but a better graphic quality. I suggest setting it to 25 or 12.5 for the best performance/quality ratio. shadowZDistance=# - set it to a value between 100 and 200 (100 is the best for me), reduces gpu and cpu load. For example, my parameters are: (Intel System) sceneComplexity=100000; shadowZDistance=0; viewDistance=800; preferredObjectViewDistance=600; terrainGrid=3.125; Mouse X and Y speeds problem fix. Probably you've seen that mouse x and y speeds are different, you can fix this issue by setting the lines mouseSensitivityX=# andmouseSensitivityY=# (located in the YourName .DAYZPROFILE file), to the same value. Also you can disable mouse smoothing. mouseSmoothing=# - This is optional, set it to 0 to disable mouse smoothing. Note: After you edit these files, don't change any of the in game settings, otherwise, those settings will overwrite the .cfg ones. You can avoid this by setting read only property to those files when you edit them.

I was able to hide my camp perfectly fine on previous version with persistence. My largest camp being on a server with low traffic, and smaller camps (outposts) on high pop servers to be concealed. The fact that your saying you cannot hide your camp properly is merely an bloated opinion. Many others are like me and are able to hide their camps perfectly fine.

I completely disagree. I think that EVR storms would not be a good addition to DayZ. I have experienced it in some Arma II mods and believe that in modded servers is the only place it belongs. I dislike the concept of EVR storms and disliked their use in Arma Mods. I did however enjoy reading your opinion. -TT

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
TerribleTomato replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
The reason that there is an upgrade (free for genuine win 7,8 users) and a clean install is that Microsoft hopes to catch many people off guard in the confusion of what exactly entitles to a clean install and an upgrade. Unbeknownst to users, currently the ONLY way to get a free upgrade is if you upgrade your Genuine windows 7, 8, 8.1 to Windows 10. With a clean install, you cannot uprade your Windows using a Windows 7 or 8 serial. I personally clean installed Windows 10 and used a unused Windows 7 Pro key on it which did not work. Upon further review it seems the free Win 10 upgrade is only for those who actually upgrade (from windows 7,8,8.1) and enroll in the insider preview Win 10 testing (within the deadline in July 2016) to receive a genuine Windows 10 copy. Having a genuine copy of Windows, clean installing Win 10, then attempting to enter a Win 7,8 key WILL NOT WORK. Hopefully this thread will be brought to light to those who do not know this. Here is another common question. Do I get Windows 10 or Windows 10 Pro? So if you have a copy of Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic,Home Premium or, Windows 8 Windows 8.1 on your PC, then upgrading will give you Windows 10 Home. Windows 10 Pro replaces Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 8.1 Pro for Students. Regards, -TT **If you have OEM software and you did not back up your system here are some tears for you ;(. -
Hello! I have MSI Z97 Gaming 5 which comes built in with a E2200 chip that can track applications upload and download speeds. I recently read a post about BMB. I have myself a story to tell. Our first is a helicopter spawning not in its regular spot by Vybor military base. I send one of my squad (four total) to investigate as we surround sniper hill to cover him. My squadmate and another are immediately shot down entering the area. The surviving squadmate, Lynx and I bunker down to wait until they expose themselves to fire, and stay hidden. We see a person start to loot the bodies, and with my mosin i hold RMB and take a shot. Center mass, man down. Immediately, the server restarts. Lynx and I quickly join in the game, being the first to get in the game as well as three BMB members. We go prone again and wait for the enemy to rejoin. Being only BMB and us on the server (after restart), we see people roaming the area around sniper hill and where my squad was killed. Lynx fires his akm, says he may have hit one but was not sure. Immediately, the server restarts again. This is the start of the rivalry with BMB, knowing that they may very well have restarted the servers on purpose to either obtain Vybor spawns, or to reset loot. Weeks later... We found a outpost up north that must have been BMB's, with three trucks, (two seaters). We completely destroy all the tents, throwing all the guns on the ground and switching them over to another server for our own personal stash. We nick the tents as well, and proceed to take the cars. After hiding the three cars, we notice two fresh spawns wearing absolutely no clothing north of Pustoshka. A member of our squad Cal moves in to converse with them. Lynx and I move into sniping positions to take them out. BANG. BANG. Both are dead. We examine the bodies. BMB. Not five minutes after, the server restarts. Our squad as well as BMB are one of the first to be in the server. I see one fresh spawn in the similar location north of Pustoshka just after restart. I take her out, and examine name. This was the same character that I had killed before restart. I decide that we should move out before reinforcements arrive, and Cal exclaims he has found an M4. Then he says there are not only many m4s, but numerous backpacks slyly hidden in the treeline with duped protective cases full of m4 mags and grenades. We realize that we have found their base. We drop everything we have and take everything, keeping my squad moving quick as I know they will be back. Cal and I log first, and Lynx hangs back to protect our bodies as we log. We cheer over teamspeak over this victory, and discuss how we will take every last piece of gear they have as revenge on their clan. We join another server soon after, and get a message saying our characters have been reset. I join BMB's teamspeak and ask them why have they erased our characters. They simply state that admins cannot erase characters, and we have too much salt in our diets. They call us cowards for trying to log in battle, while I stay quiet even though I know Lynx watched us log out before he did himself. A few dayz later, I am near Pustoshka and think, i should join BMB to get some gear. I leave my gun and backpack on the ground, pistol in vest and log into BMB. After running into the strip where they have their gear, I am quickly mowed down by surprise mosin fire, and recieve multiple friend requests at once. I friend one with BMB in his steam id. I ask how is he. He says he wants me to know that it was their clan who shot me. We talk tense chop, and respectably go our own way. After this event, I decided whatever the case may be, that I nor my squad would be joining BMB's server again. Thoughts? -TT

You probably thinking, wow another DayZ hate post. This however is just a discussion for why did people buy this game. It started with the DayZ Mod, a friend told me that a new upcoming game was extremely fun. He said that four other friends and I should all play together. We even made a group called the Fruit Ninjaz to play as a team. Everyone bought the game, however all of my friends quit within the make or break period of the first one hundred hours because it was "too hard". Funny, I've kept the name Tomato ever since as a memento to how I stumbled across this game. I made new friends, and will never forget the reason I bought the standalone: Dean Hall's DayZ mod. After two years of playing the mod, the long anticipated Standalone came out in alpha. Of course, I had to buy the game because I loved the mod. Back then, I was playing on a laptop with no dedicated graphics, running an i3 at 2.1 ghz and played the mod at a solid 20 fps (i thought that was amazing at the time, lowest settings ofc). After downloading the standalone, I realized my poor laptop would probably not be able to play it. It was true, I could only get 5-10 fps with the standalone (back in the first six months) and decided I would never be able to play the standalone because my laptop would not run it. A year later, I attempted to play the standalone again, reading about how one could improve performance by changing the script (documents, dayz, scene complexity, etc) and was able to run Dayz SA at 10-20 fps. I was hooked, even at frames so bad I could hardly see (big cities, cherno, elek), I played the game. The new squad I had found and become acquainted with laughed at what poor frames I played at. I began to think, if I could just get thirty fps, I would be set and the game would be even more fun. I began researching computer components, trying to figure out how to get the most bang for my buck when I purchased a new computer. Two months ago, I built the computer I am currently using, a powerhouse with an i5 3.5 ghz processor and a gtx 970. DayZ had not only taught me how to survive in a zombie apocalypse, read compasses, maps, and tell that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, it also taught me how to build a computer from scratch (built my pc myself with the help of tomshardware and youtube). A grand and a half spent with the sole purpose of playing one video game (some may not building a computer or spending a grand and a half is impressive, but for a college student it was quite a big deal for me), Dayz. My dreams came true. Max graphical settings, 100% rendering resolution at 1080p, minimum 30 fps in cherno (processor oc to 4.2ghz helps quite a bit) I thought that I held a grand advantage now over all those suckers who were playing on computers like mine from the past. However this was not the case. In the first month of having my computer, I played about 250 hours of DayZ (I know, probably should have spent more time studying, but hey what can I say YOLO). From the day I bought the Standalone, and 600 hundred hours later, I can say without a doubt that DayZ is my favorite game. For those of you that say the mod is way better than the standalone, I whole heartedly agree that I had much more fun playing the mod. The hype it came with being a successful mod (i mean, Ive never played arma 2 once, know Ive missed out but I play a bit of arma 3 now) made the game seem larger than life. Now the standalone is out, I know even though I had more fun on the mod, I can never go back because the standalone is simply a better game, run on a better engine, made to be an improvement, a Standalone of the mod. Some Q/A -Are the two games the same? Absolutely not, there are too many differences to even mention. Would I buy this game again? After six hundred hours, I would definitely say the enjoyment Ive gotten out of this game is worth well over the 20 dollars I spent when the standalone was released. I believe the game is around 35 now, almost twice what I paid for. -Would I recommend this game to a friend? Yes and no. Always trying to get my friends to play with me, those that do buy it usually quit because they cannot get over the fact that the game is “hard”. However, there are many bugs and problems with the game that still need fixing. I give Developers my full support and trust that they will finish what they started. -Why did I buy this game? Because I enjoyed the Mod so thoroughly. Everything Ive done in the standalone is to replicate the experiences I had in the mod. Now that you've heard my story, riddle me this... Why did you buy this game?

Can you believe this? Back to the old loot system? Honestly, when there was low loot, everyone complained. It was difficult, and I struggled myself. After 100 hours on the scarce loot system, I understood what I needed to do to survive. I learned the ropes, and slowly but surely the game became known to me again. I log in today, and what I have been reading on the forums are true, the old loot system is back. DEVELOPS WHAT THE HECK! The plight of dying of starvation and being forced to learn how to survive, learning the new loot tables. The struggle made it fun, and now all those hours I put into learning how to survive are put to waste. I hope this could take a positive direction from now and don't rush updates with more bugs and old un-addressed problems. The hard-core fans say-- Its just alpha, its still in test phase. Sorry to break it to you, but I am too a huge dayz fan. They have worked too long on this game that they can't keep excusing themselves because it being an alpha. Thoughts? -TT

0.55 is Dayz Developers attempt to gain some publicity. Personally I believe they intentionally released the game as it is for a reason. Make it very difficult so people will talk about it aka free advertising. They are probably monitoring purchases between every update and seeing what generates the most revenue. Not the first time its been done in a market, Dayz is not so good now but I have faith in developers. Maybe they need the money for new tech, or have been working hard and are taking one update of a breather.

Hey guys! I need some help, me and a friend were looting the west tent city and found a truck. We just found m4's and aug's from a helicopter crash site. We also just found a large military tent at the tent city. We were driving north to set up our first tent and i stepped lightly on the side of the map and the car glitched through the ground. I was wondering if anyone could help me get out of this situation without losing my m4 and my military tent? Much appreciated, -TT

Yo, dont even bother submitting a claim. No response, its not worth it. Did a lot of reading, theyve got bigger fish to fry. Just die, games in alpha, get over it, blah, blah. Thats what I learned from that.

Thank you so much! I submitted a report and hopefully I can be unstuck. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=22504

Hey Survivors, Has anybody been experiencing a problem with the long range scope? Whenever I snipe, players bodies from 150m+ (Fairly close) are missing their lower torso and sometimes lower torso and chest. Backpack and head are always within sight, however for some reason I seem to be experiencing a sniping problem where the chest and legs are sometimes missing, and see through. I will post screen shots later tonight when I get online. I am able to see the complete body of zombies, and this problem seems to only be for players. -TT
