For Everyone Complaining About The Loot........
SkydogHex replied to Bush_Wookieing_101's topic in General Discussion
Meh, I guess the patch should have said "Mileage may vary." My pub character has found so much stuff he can't carry it all. My only problem with him atm is that my SKS is damaged. Haven't found another one or a cleaning kit. Not the end of the world though. The character I play on musty's private server is pretty screwed. Loot doesn't seem to be working right at all. The area I'm in hasn't spawned anything new in days. Logged in this morning with the hope that something had changed after maint. Nope same red schoolbag, pink hat and flare gun in the building. Scouted around everything seems to be the same. Agro'd some z's, not enough ammo to shoot 'em. Tried to ditch them. Ended up climbing in a tree stand. Now I'm treed. LOL. Again maybe others are having better luck. But for me, even covering huge portions of the map, checking all those different loot spots things are looking pretty grim for him. -

Nicely done. :) -
I had an issue with apples not appearing in my inventory yesterday. However when I moved something to the empty slots, the apples appeared. Didn't happen every time but enough for me to figure it out. BTW if your inventory is full the apple usually goes to the ground and can be seen in the vicinity portion of your tab. My public character had a rough time yesterday, found an mp5 and a lot of ammo for it. Yay! But I got a bit stupid and sniped a zombie with my SKS. Two zombies ran toward me so I pulled out the mp5 to give it a try. Two bursts two dead zeds. Uh oh... there's two more zombies coming. Then I get hit from behind... I take off running and holy crap there is three zeds behind me and two in front. So five zeds beat the crap out of me. I finally ditched them but I'd bled so bad the screen was totally desaturated by time I could bandage. Dying with him would have really sucked but I pulled through and healed up a bit before logging in a safe place. My musty character is doing good. Scavenging new places and surviving.

The day has finally come LOL. That was my face when I found a bag of rice. :)

Well it was a rough day yesterday. My two week old character got killed by another fully geared player that I stumbled on in a building. I tried to say friendly but he shotgunned me through a door. While I should have just retreated, it's in my nature to try to be friendly and talk to people. It got me killed but I'm probably not going to change. Respawn. Found myself on the east coast, began checking every building moving along as fast as I could. After an hour or so I'd found a paramedics jacket and nothing else. Since I was about to die from starvation, I threw myself off a building. Respawn. Found myself near cherno. After a short exploration I found another player. We picked apples together. He moved off looking to explore some buildings. I tried to gather more apples but a guy with a shotgun came up so I ran away. I made it to that little set of houses north of cherno but before you get to Nadez when I spotted a goat. I pulled out my hammer, chased it down and killed it. Skinned it with my stone knife, rewarding me with 4 raw steaks. I realized I had no matches... can I eat this raw? I don't want to get sick, had that happen once, no way I'd survive an illness now. I'll go look at the wiki. I found a building to hide in, alt tabbed looked up raw meat. Hmm doesn't say you might get sick if you eat it raw. Oh well I'll take a chance. Alt tab back into the game to see some guy beating me down with a garden hoe. Try to flee... go unconsious. A min later I die. Ah well at least he won't have to eat me. Respawn. Find myself by a crane but nothing else in sight. Climb the crane... and jump. Respawn. Find myself up north near Novo. Started exploring. Picked apples. Found some gear. Headed west avoiding zeds and scavenging. Hunger was a problem for a long time but I finally found a bag of rice which fixed that problem. Managed to find the OREL uniform, a gorka helm, backpack. As far as weapons I ended up with a pickaxe, sporter with a few rounds and a CR75, a mag for it and some ammo. Ran into a player who was fighting zombies, helped him kill them, we chatted for a few and then I said my farewells and found a safe place to rest for the night. I think I'm in a pretty good position for today. I'm going to try farming and hunting once I find some matches... whatever it takes to survive.

My impressions over the last two days, playing on a priv server and a public, traveling all over the map. 1: Infected - Once the invisible z's were gone, I've actually enjoyed the zombies a lot. They hit more often than I would expect but their damage is not bad, most of the time. There are some hits that still flat out take gear from pristine to ruined in one hit. I do believe that getting hit repeatedly should damage gear, but one hit ruin is to much. Still there are lot of nice new mechanics, such as sneaking or losing them by breaking line of sight which works the majority of the time. One issue though I should not be able to stand and run right by one, nor sneak in front of one. I also like if you shoot other zeds are likely gonna agro you. Overall a real good start but some tweaks are needed. 2: Loot - Ah, loot is a mess. I do like the chance of having gear spawn in any location. But perhaps some areas should still have a heavier weighted chance to spawn in specific area's. For instance, I believe it's possible to find a military weapon in a normal home. But finding them only in homes and none in mil areas is odd. The other issue is persistence. I get that we want players to migrate and move around not just stay on the coast, but having no loot at all once someone takes stuff in that area? Ugh. No. The items should spawn all over, depending on when something is taken or used. Also consider weighting basic items heavier to starting areas, especially for respawning items. Making improvised weapons and backpacks and other gear is great. Especially for starting off. But as it stands you are likely to find better items, before you find the components to make them like rope, burlap sack, knives and axes. 3: Gathering/ Animals. Okay I'm going to say it, I hate gathering apples. Make the chance 50/50 or something. I spent 20 minutes gathering apples to get 7... While this maybe 'realistic' to some it's a boring time sink the way it works now. On animals, I WANT to hunt to survive. I want roast a steak on the fire but in two days I saw one goat. No other animals. Again, tweak the spawns so animals can be found and harvested with some 'work'. 4: PvP - Meh I really haven't seen much of a change mostly because the majority were so heavily geared to start with. I know people hate it but a character wipe probably would have been good to do.

I don't care about zombies being OP or not... but the "invisible" zombies that keep kicking my butt are a problem. It's not fun to be getting pummeled and not be able to fight back because there are no zombies that you can see anywhere around you.

So I went kinda crazy last night. I decided I was too attached to my gear, so I thought Hey lets go to go to Cherno and find a fight and when I die I'll just start over. So I started running through Elektro when I see a freshspawn fighting a zombie. I kill the zombie with my 357 and then tell the guy to put his hands up. After he complies, I'm like hey, crazy question but do you want my mosin? So I end up giving him my Mosin, pu scope, all the ammo I had for it along with my TTSKo jacket some food and water. I know he thought I was nuts. Then I ran to Cherno, and started looking for bandits or a fire fight. I spent almost two hours running around the city in the open with my 357 out. I saw a few players all of whom yelled friendly and ran away. I didn't get into a single shoot out. I did find a repeater before I finally logged though, so maybe I won't act so suicidal tonight, though I kinda enjoyed reverse robbing that guy in Elektro

Was hanging out on musty earlier. Went over that Kozlova mt area between Cherno and Electro cause I like hanging out in the woods. Realized I needed water and decided to hit up the well just east of Cap Golova. As I come down I scope out the area, see a guy with an orange backpack down near the houses. Before I can decide to risk it or leave. The sever resets. When I log back in about 5 min after the reset, I'm a bit further back up the mt. I hike down, get to my scoping out spot and now I see two players running around the area by the pump. Okay... I guess I'll head out, I unscope my PU and when I did I thought I saw a hint of movement to my left. So I freeze and look around. Hmm nothing. I start crouch walking when I hear a mosin shot followed by another one. I scurry next to a tree. They sounded like they came from right beside me! I swear I thought someone was trying to kill me. A min later, I see the mosin guy move forward, he's aiming down the mt at the water area. He doesn't even see me! Cool I'm out of here. Then I'm like but what about those poor guys down at the pump? I line up my sks on the dude and drop him with two shots. I lost sight of his body and wasn't sure if he was dead. So I start looking for it. Can't find it. Guess it got lost down the hill. So I move back to my scoping spot to see if I see anyone cause I really could use a drink and fill up my canteen. As I'm scoping I hear the sound of feet. I look behind me and a freshspawn looking guy tries to pummel me. I fire off some shots, breaking his leg. So I try talking to the guy, see what his deal was. He doesn't respond, doesn't type. Just pulls out a knife and rolls around. I pull out my sawed off. Blam. Blam. I miss. Oh well, fire axe time. One hit and he's dead. Head down the mt to get water. Encounter another freshy, who said he was friendly but seemed sketch so I left. Ended up drinking out of a pond somewhere in the hills. Yeah it was a good Dayz. :)

Nerves of steel. Who stays cool in life threatening situations?
SkydogHex replied to too-easy's topic in General Discussion
Even in a game situation panic is going to happen and affect you. Most times your ability to function is going to depend on your instincts and repetative training. In-game that means knowing where the buttons are and how to respond. In my first real in-game combat experience (Not counting where I was just sniped or killed while trying to be friendly.) I ran across a guy leaving a heli crash. I saw him running south and was content to let him go until he stopped and turned towards me. I raised my AKM and fired a burst at pretty much the same time he shot at me. My screen went grey and I fell to the ground. At first all I could think was how screwed I was. Red status effects were scrolling on the screen and I was bleeding. I knew I was in bad shape and in a bit of a panic, so I fired off another burst and the guy fled behind the heli. I quickly realized that if I didn't stop the bleeding that I was a dead man. So even though it was a bad move due to being in the open I bandaged. The action finished and I was still alive. Now what to do? I'd seen that my boots were ruined, and the text kept telling me that my feet were really sore. I decided to low crawl to the right and see if I could see him beside the heli. It took a bit and when I got into position he wasn't there. Oh crap. Oh crap where is he? I saw some bushes that were behind the tail and a bit off to the left. He must be hiding there. A minute went by and I see him rush back towards the heli. I fire another burst and he seemed to back track while fleeing away from the heli. I lost sight of him behind the bushes again. I was pretty sure I never hit him. I lay there for a moment pretty panicked and thought, well I really don't want to die. How am I going to get out of this? Wait... lets see if I can make it to these bushes to that are about 20' away to my right. I chanced standing up to run only to discover I could barely hobble along. Oh great! I made it about 10' when I start hearing shots. OMG they are behind me and to the right, I turn toward the shots and see him about 50 feet away. Ahhh! He's circled around me! How'd he do that? Without thinking I hit the prone button and he lowers his weapon and starts walking towards me. What? Does he think I'm dead? A sense of calm washed over me. I knew what to do... I moved my target over him as he made his way towards me. I knew I only had one chance so I waited, not knowing if all the damage I'd taken would mess up my aim or if he'd decide to finish me off. As he got to about 15' a way I fired a burst... all three rounds were hits. His body did that jerking motion and he fell. Dead. I'm alive!! Without a doubt panic made my shooting horrible and I also made some bad choices like standing up and not going for cover immediately. Hitting the prone button was pure instinct. That and the luck of a poor decision on his part pulled me through. While I did have to hobble a over a klick to find a town I could scavenge for shoes, none of my other gear was damaged so it turned out to be a good learning encounter. -
I try to make friends, but the few people I've seen just shoot me. LOL. In all seriousness, tonight in Cherno, I saw a guy a block away from me. He had an axe, bright backpack and beginner clothing. I turned and yelled, "Hey I'm friendly." He booked it around a corner. I ran down the street saying "Really I'm friendly." Came around the corner and the guy was gone. I figure he jumped in one of the buildings. I thought to myself, damn why'd he run away? Them it hit me. He looked pretty fresh, while I was in a complete black outfit, save my smersh and backpack, with my ghillie wrapped AKM out. Heck, I'd of run too. Oh well maybe next time.

I'm pretty new too, 3 weeks in but about 120hrs of play according to Steam. My mindset is pretty similar to yours, here are somethings I've figured out through experience. 1: Currently most people are going to try and kill you. Either for your gear or just because they can. Don't let it get you down. The game is alpha and with the changes coming, the game will evolve. 2: If you see someone first, observe them and try to get a feel for what they are up to. If you're seen first, play it by ear but be ready to shoot or scoot. 3: If you decide to approach them, try to keep cover between you and them. Then talk to them from a distance. Two reasons for this a lot of people are bad shots. Or if they only have a melee weapon. If they start getting to close before you feel comfortable, ask them to back off. If they don't either shoot or scoot. 4: Never stop moving. Even when you are trying to converse with someone. It's harder to hit a target in motion and might buy you the time you need to scoot if they get aggressive. This also helps with snipers but some of them are awesome shots. 5: Stay out of Cherno and Elktro. Both are deathtraps. I've not had problems in Berenzino but I've heard it's bad too. 6: Be aware of your surroundings. Just because you are talking to someone who claims to be friendly, doesn't mean they don't have a friend sneaking up on you, or on the off chance some other trigger happy fool spots you. 8: Trust your gut. No matter where you are or what you're doing if feel like you're at risk... Get out of there. I'm sure they're are many more tips that can help increase your survival chances without having to resort to joining the KoSers.

Have you ever run into the only other guy on the server?
SkydogHex replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Two days ago I was playing on a "friendly"server late into the night. The pop had dropped to three people. Which was cool since I was headed the the NWAF to see if I could pick up some extra ammo for the AKM I'd just found. I was just outside all the tents when I get attacked by 4 military zombies in a row. The last one manages to hit me. I'm spurting blood as I hear the sound of a truck come roaring up. ARRGH what are the chances? I sprint like crazy and hop in a tent throwing on a bandage. Next thing I know some guy lights the tent up, wounding me badly. But then no more shots, so I limp out of the tent and see the guy being chased by two or three zombies. I light him up. He drops down by a pile of stuff with two zombies gang banging him. And suddenly I hear another zombie yell and my screen goes black. "You are dead." I sure hope those z's finished that guy off. PS I've sworn off "friendly" servers since I seemed to be the only one dumb enough to follow the rules :)
