    Right, do we even need water tablets now? What would be the point of having these game mechanics if they don't use them fully? Is anyone going to actually pick up a heat pack unless they are cold right then? These things make more sense when you are expecting change. Ever wonder why they even made fruit (kiwi, banana, orange)? They don't grow in Chernarus. They only make sense at the beginning of a outbreak scenario.   4. ok, yeah thought you did. Yes, it is very interesting. I'm always interested in what will go into the Arma 3 branch from DayZ, occlusion culling? Maybe some of the A3 sound guys would move to DayZ once they're finished there. It has been mentioned in status report of sharing resources regarding sound.
  5. I agree B@ker, these other engines do not match the scale. All talk ends at, "I can't see over 400 meters". But, The mod running on A3 is still no where near the level of what SA is trying to accomplish. Everything will be on the server, without this hackers would run wild. 3-4 thousand infected all on server, over 100 players, over million spawn points, enscript, new animation system, player character. The mod comparision should end at infected local. It should be more obvious as time goes on, but A3 is a different game, besides the sound (which it will incorporate) there is not much it can do better that DayZ needs.

    Haha... sounds like my wife, who admits to misophonia, which is someone who is disgusted by the sound of eating. Seriously though, I agree. The eating sounds should be understated. Lets hope the Devs have some sense with this, as these will all be redone. The slurping in The Long Dark :huh:

    I remember them saying in a status report that when you find food it should rate a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10, this coming from Dean. I doubt this has changed.

    Which version are you discussing? I'm playing experimental now and the loot is very evenly distributed. But, :( food levels on experimental are just too high right now, zero challenge, without infected it's a little sad. I really hope this goes down. Remember they can now change these levels after .58 is released to stable in real time :).
  9. This isn't the mod? I don't know what you mean. This thread is about the mod and comparing it to Standalone. He brought up how long he has played DayZ (mod + SA). Then you swore at him because you didn't understand him. He has always had a good handle on the game, no need to belittle him. :)
  10. He's was referring to the mod being new and unexplored. Anyone with two brain cells should have understand what he was talking about, chillax fool.
  11. What else is there to do? Without infected the mod wins. But, there is more to it, it's visuals too, it's just not as scary or depressing yet. But, I believe it will get there.

    How tall is the character?

    I have been thinking about this while playing lately. I think a lot of it has to do with plant height. Plant height doesn't correspond to its form. So the grass is up to elbows, which is possible, but it would need a much more bushy form to get to that heights, or it would flop over in wind. It's like this with many plants and bushes. Same with the yellow parsnip (I think), it's over 6 feet (which is possible), but its form looks like a plant 4 feet maybe. It might have to do with the over all de-cluttering of Chernarus to Chernarus +, which I think looks great, but this might be a side affect to plant spacing.
  13. So I'm trying to envision what regional control will feel like. While for the Devs this will involve very complicated configurations and the chance to find something special anywhere. For us it will mean some items will be generally available in the zone. I'm looking at which items will be generally available in each zone. - Region control (Restricting item rarity levels to certain regions of the map) Previsualization of intended initial region support - NOT FINAL I only did Zone 1, but its contrast with other zones will be what makes the journey interesting. I was surprised that I put soo much in zone 1, but thought traveling back to zone 1 for medical supplies, truck parts, and tools might be interesting and provide interactions after getting past the initial nutrition hurdles. Should medical supplies be in Zone 1? I didn't think so until I looked through. The generally available items are in green, rare items in red. Going through and making your own might be more interesting than reading mine, just copy and color code. Or discuss what you expect out of regional control. ZONE 1 Clothing Equipment Food and Drink

    All of us who rarely pvp??? You mean do nothing, there are no infected right now. The 3pp camera fix has as much to do with maintaining infected threat, as fair player interactions. I believe they are working towards centering the camera when unarmed. This was talked about in some Dev thread. But, that doesn't mean it will stay that way this will change many times before 1.0, voice your opinion.

    It's Snowing! (On .58 EPX)

    Hicks said this was a bug a while ago. I agree I would rather have a community alternative of the whole map including buildings and trees, than parts of Chernarus. But, I think snow coming down like a short flurry would be realistic and practical as part of weather (not textures), just no accumulation. This would just represent colder air temps when precipitation was present.

    Great report, thanks devs. "hiking is least viable option" - I cant wait until this is true, seems like road map would indicate this could be coming soon? Hoping so.. Also, really love that they have developed the game from the start, with the idea of visually seeing the tools that need to be used. These small details are going to be great in the end. Similar to seeing loot, (as discussed in previous status report) it's going to make dayz have that authentic feel.

    Do not make DayZ SA Moddable.

    You can make an argument about mods being detrimental to the experience, but not so many in this thread.BI has always been about player freedom (not changing), it has drawbacks for sure, but the good outweighs the bad. Dayz wouldn't even exist if not for BI's openess. Who knows what will come out of this, great maps yes, snow maps and gameplay yes, survivor game tournaments yes, freaking dinosaurs yes, I could go on and on. If you don't like modding and can't stomach hackers go play on the console version. I'll probably get around to buying one once it gets closer, just to play with friends, I'll even buy them the dam game if I have too. Bi has shown strong concern for handling their public servers and keeping them up, no matter what comes of the modding scene. Chill out.

    Disease transfer to people in close vicinity.

    Yeah, cholera is really weak, never had it and might never get it. But, Ive always assumed that was just the proof of concept to something much larger. It's really just setting and transferring the variable on items. So hopefully cholera is just the tip of the disease iceberg.

    Making it an event when eating/drinking etc...

    I believe this is all assumed, but it's unknown how long these times will be. Im pretty sure they have stated that actions will be variable, you won't click an action, you will hold down button to engage. You let go to disengage, there is no cancel. (Think Minecraft eating) So with this logic, these actions will take "time". Just the fact that this is being developed for console tells a lot. Any dragging crafting, right clicking actions will need alternatives. From my understanding crafting will be done either by 1.) dropping item on ground, then holding other item in hands and commencing animation that way. Or 2.) having two hand slots and using them together, that would be awesome, but last I heard they were only investigating the idea, it leads to many other problems. With this logic I like this subject. I think some of your times might be slightly long, but when you think about the way it will work with disengaging, it might not seem so bad. we'll see.... BTW, am I the only one who hates round numbers in games, there has to be a perfect number or time limit and it can't always be rounded by 5's??

    increase Map size

    Lol, what? Maybe alpha is not for you. The crazy running speeds are for testing.While the idea of a forest only area in no mans land sounds good, I'm not sure it would help the overall game concept, it might even damage it. With all the concern over map size, dayz still has a high land/player ratio compared to most games even if they go to 140. Does anyone take time to think what this game will be like with infected complete?

    Make doors always open away from you

    you can lock doors with lockpick. I'm so paranoid that this is a priority for me, feel much better in a police station with the doors locked. Really like biohaze's idea of using mouse. Eventually everything will be like that (holding mouse down for action) so this could happen. Would be great in 1pp, peaking in slowly it needed.
