    It has been a different kind of situation for sure, but all games are different. I'll agree that they have to build the "best game" not the mod. BI has always cared about their player base and has supported them better than 99% of game studios out there. Building the game to be fairly hack free and support modding is no easy task. Enjoy your break. :P

    I keep hearing that DayZ will disappear because the development is (in some guys opinion) too slow. Like it will lose appeal as time ticks. And this ussually comes from someone with over a thousands hours. It sold 3 million alpha copies, and spawned a new genre in games! It's got legs.By your logic 12 year olds (that never played the mod) will be 18 and ready to play. If your burning out, just take long breaks. I think you'll be surprised how relevent it will remain when you return.

    First few days of dying and not much playing

    Try to learn how to rid yourself of canned food. This is not as easy in .58, but you can still learn the ways to do it. Fishing is a pretty easy source of quick food. First thing to make when you spawn is a stone knife. Then make rags (with knife) of everything, combine 6 rags and 6 rags for improvised rope. Cut a branch off a tree (with knife) and craft a fishing pole. Dig some worms. The problem now in .58 is there are no chickens around, which with you could make a bone hook with. You can find a hook, but it takes luck or time. So in the mean time learn: apple trees, berry bushes (poisonous and not), oak trees for hand drill and fire starting, net fishing, rabbit snaring. Also just learn all the crafting that you don't already know, like improvised backpack maybe.

    It feels much smoother, ive never checked any actual difference in fps. I do play over 1080, and it just looks lower to me, its not changed in settings. That's just a complete guess to understand it, or maybe the post processing is changed? I recently tried to play with it and see if it helps with the recent 2 second frame drop, forgot how noticeable it was! I have no answers on this, Hicks said it was unrelated, I'm confused by that too.

    I get better performance with the -newui too. And the game looks noticeably different. Could this just be from forced lower resolution? Something is very different, but I cant put my finger on it, lighting?

    I think it's been worth testing both sides. But I'll go with the higher damage, over watered down. Obviously it's not simple because velocity is also involved, not just caliber. But, more towards initial alpha release. Here is the reason; it matches the engine..which is about realistic distance and vision, or at least simulating it...so awareness, distance, and the element of surprise should be rewarded Games with lower view distance need more sponging, because it's not as much your fault being caught off guard. With DayZ you should pay not being aware or be rewarded for playing appropriately.

  9. I'm thinking very different. The mods AI was awful, it did the job for the mod, but it sucked. Especially if you already understood how knowsAbout works for arma. It was painful The horde mechanic he's talking about I think was to help with atleast these problems; The problem of them forming a line when chasing. The problem of them standing on top of each other. And the hoard all having matching animation at the same time. Could be more too. You can count me in on this playstyle.

    Realistically, I guess both would suit it. This one is from the area to make you feel better. :P im Looking for more patchy fog, that you would see in a forest after a cold wet night. That's really different than A3 fog. I guess I would be more disappointed if it was the sea type fog only.

    This is more of what I want with fog. Arma3 can't do this AFAIK This is more of a mountain fog, A3 is more of a island fog. I find the A3 for really cool looking, but for gameplay its not that great, your either in it or out of it, solely dependent on elevation.

    Some people just exaggerate. I'm thinking some of the freeze hiccups are exaggerated in the same way. I get under 1-1.5 second frame drops. I'm sure people get longer, by what's posted, But I just don't trust their estimations.

    I'm hoping its not exactly like Arma3 since it is more of island fog. It goes bottom up, that would look increadible by the coast, but you rarely see the contrast, except from the top of a mountain. Inland mountain fog should be more chunky varying at heights.

    Animal numbers right? Thought this was going to happen, but I've lost track. How about the NATO base? Also, sadly I'm waiting for after .59, it seems this is another patch that is aimed to improve stable playability. With desync and content. I want them to start implemention new tech that breaks my game! Which will lead to longer experimentals, which is a good idea.

    I'm with you on the water situation. I cant believe that the Devs are going to release the game with water so clean and so plentiful. It's everywhere. If water wells can be spiked with disease (I thought this was talked about by Dean), I will do it every time I can. I don't even have that type of personality, I just think the game needs it. Things for bases: how about firewood stand that doubles as a tire stand. This would need to be persistent container. Storing a stock pile of tires is going to be a bit of a problem, with their size. This would be a visual type of storage container, which they don't really have yet. I would like this in different formats, another example would be a pallet.

    Seems like they think they can get 2000. I know they may have said more at some point, but that might have been a while ago too. Recently they say 2000. I was thinking that sounded a bit low compared to the mod. But, if you look at a map and count the towns (very rough 70ish), it looks like that's a decent number. That would be 30ish per town. Small towns around 10, average towns around 30, that would leave cities maybe 50ish +. That's a complete guess, didn't take much time. But, one infected per 5 buildings would be really low and disappointing to me. The mod felt incredibly tough, nothing was easy, you had to be smart to make it, stealth and retreating were a big part of surviving, so large numbers have to happen for me. If I had my choice I would want 2,500.
  18. This is quite a radical idea. It kinda depends on how much you despise server hopping. Only, everyone that despises server hopping has private servers for that reason. One location only would be the best way, so last server would have to get erased. Not sure if I like it not. :huh: it would 100% eliminate server hopping. That's not too bad. Nice idea.

    Pretty sure this is confirmed, but not on the horizon. "Confirmed" that they are going to try to do it, since it's not on the road map. Maybe like Arma3, adding it after launch.

    It's a bit of a drama queen OP. You cant expect it to be perfect, they have to keep rolling. They seem to have been going deeper into making stable more playable, and planning on doing the same with .59 and de-sync. After that it seems they're planning longer times between stable builds, which sounds good to me. Though I'm not experiencing your problems :) and having no game breaking issues on high pop. Maybe you've had bad luck.

    I think "limb loss" is confirmed. By Eugene in that twitter quick question thing awhile back, couldn't find it....yet. I think it pertained to axing a leg off. I could be wrong I'll keep looking
  24. Yeah, I know Dark Souls or Demon Souls went as far as to not allow it on console. B. Seems like they are going to try with "Advanced Communication". Not sure it will work, but still will add to the game.
  25. No you describe it perfectly. Even about the robot part, because technically it is more like controlling robot, while other FPS game is just a camera. Arma2 which the movement is from was not made to go indoors. And it is ancient. But, they are not keeping this, it is all going to change. They're building the new player controller and animation system. I'm sure the challenge is going to be, to not make it to fluid and retain the simulation part. I think they even said that somewhere. Arma3 has many different paces which solves that, you can switch for the situation. Bigger strides outdoors and small steps indoors with sprinting, running, tactical, walking for both, and gun up and down (which changes pace) for three. I'm not even sure what the topic is anymore.. :P
