  1. The logical fallacy of the "server performance" argument is just astounding. You think everyone in the team work on the same things? The map designers fix the map, the audio designers fix the audio, the coders fix the server performance. The argument of heavy breathing is extremely legit, and I agree wholeheartedly when it comes to reducing the effect. But thank heavens it's not as bad as the female character was in the mod.

    server hoping wipe?

Sounds like a bug, joining server with different version than the client seems to be doing that. Also, deserved it.

You seem locked around the concept that endgame is something definitive. It doesn't have to be. What I mean when I say the game needs an endgame, I'm not talking boss-fights or raids. I'm talking about a loose endgame - something to do when you are fully looted up. People say that the lasting goal in DayZ is survival. Yeah, I agree that it should be. But today? Everyone can take a bag full of sardines and canteens and sit in a house in Msta all day. That is surviving, but it isn't fun. And no one does it. Because what the only lasting goal the game mechanics today encourage is looting up. And that's a lot of fun for 4-8 hours, but once you get all the loot you want people start seeking action because "there's nothing else to do". And I think this is what people mean by endgame. That you can build bases, develop character skills (medic/engineer/shooting), craft your own clothes. I think everyone agrees that these sort of funtions are needed to give the game more layers. What we're basically raging at eachother over is the definition of the word "endgame". I notice that some of you define it an "The End, game over"-type of thing, while me and some others in this post have more of an activity based view on "endgame", allowing for a broader specter of activities and lasting goals then there are today.

Something tells me you've spent some time in Tamriel. ;)

Haha, couldn't agree more with you on that one. I even remember a long discussion topic around the time the "Holy Book" was introduced in the mod, and some people for some reason thought it should be a definitive endgame to find a holy book, visit all the churches in the game and go to Green Mountain and burn the holy book in a fire. Then we're talking scewed perspectives on what DayZ is about.

    Are blood types implemented?

I can only answer to the best of my abilities. I administered a saline solution to a friend earlier today, and he reported a big blood boost. There was no option to self-administer, so I think you can only administer on others.
  7. I think we can discuss this page up and page down for the next year, but leveling the playing field graphically comes at a cost. And that cost is the sliders and the different graphical options. The way I see it it boils down to a trade-off between the individual graphical performance and the collective equality in terms of visibility. Where to draw the line is the difficult question.

Blood types are definitely implemented. Died from sepsis myself yesterday.

    Some Suggestions

I read in an interview (today I think) that he was thinking about making an "Extreme" difficulty with less loot spawns and only first person perspective. On normal/veteran difficulties I guess you are right though.

    Character keeps resetting!

As far as I know this is a known bug that is being looked into by the dev team. Happened to me yesterday as well. But I take that one on the chin due to karma from not being killed by the database wipe.

    Is it just me or...

DayZ is for the connoisseurs of gaming. Much like I guess you have to be interested in wine, cheeses or painting to fully enjoy all they have to offer, I think you have to be quite "into" gaming before you like DayZ. It takes a trained eye to see the beauty DayZ has to offer. But for those relatively few of us who get to witness it in its full glory. Well, we've got something special. That being said, I can't see why the alpher should be free of criticism. I think that most of us agrees that it's a good starting point, but I think we all agree it needs a lot of work. And it will. And people voicing their concerns aids in that respect, not destroys.
  12. Hahaha, loved this. I've been doing some most unwilling recon up there myself. Was trying to get from Gvozdno to Krasnostav, and without a map or compass ended up in the northern road network. Ended up in Khelm an hour or so later. 6/10 would get lost again.

    Looting Killed Players

It's most likely a result of combat loggers. Just about everyone who gets killed does it nowadays. Probably a fix coming up in a patch soon.

I agree that programmed mechanics shouldn't be an endgame in DayZ, bossfights don't belong here. But the way I see it you are the one not thinking outside the box. You define what you can do in DayZ by what the current standards says you can. But we're talking about how those standards should be expanded in the future. All due respect to your creative imagination, but selling watches or clothes in Kamenka.. That's as far from the experience I seek from DayZ as you get. By endgame I'm not talking boss fights or "The End", I'm talking objectives like base building, farming, running power grids. You know - stuff you would do to survive in the zombie apocalypse. That's what I mean by endgame.
  15. Yeah, I think that's a given. But what OP questions is the decision to base the SA off a completely new engine and architecture instead of starting with what they had in the mod and just continually develop. The plusses of the latter would be that all the functionality of todays mod would be intact (models, guns, vehicles, zombie and loot behavior). The reason they decided to go for a fresh approach instead of continuing to develop the mod into a full version has been elaborated on by rocket a great deal. I think his initial thought was the same as your. I remember he said somewhere around September last year that "the project was a failure if it wasn't out by new year". But the weeks came and went and rocket and the team saw the need for a totally new approach to many aspects of the game that needed more than just "tweaking" for DayZ:SA to become what he had envisioned. This includes the server architecture, the inventory system and the new animations. I guess these are the most important factors as to why they started fresh instead of building on what they had.

    Just an Idea

And having the loot/zombie system the way it is, how long since last server restart.

Well, he isn't doing that is he? He's just pointing out that he is a long time follower of the genre. But it doesn't matter what people write as long as parts of it opens up for a smug straw man comment, right?

What happened to concepts from early 2013?

Coming back to me now. Sounds right, guys.

What happened to concepts from early 2013?

I might be wrong on this one, but I'm fairly certain the first one was posted by rocket? For the second picture I'm not sure. Don't think I've seen that before.
  20. CREDiBLE

What happened to concepts from early 2013?

As for the GUI, I think the primary reason they didn't use it is because it is because that is before they revamped the entire inventory system. Now with the modular inventory system, that approach isn't as valid (i.e. you don't have toolbelt anymore, the modular clothing slots wouldn't fit). As for the overgrown concept of the broken city, I guess you as a graphic designer should be the first to know that it has to fit into the overarching art style. If they were to include apartment complexes overgrown with plants, then they'd have to do the same thing with all the other cities and buildings in the game.

I'll let you know it's pretty annoying with these dudes that have 65 posts and think that entitles them to being entitled cunts as well. You have two posts in this thread. If I were to weigh the douchiness and narcissism of your post and OP's I don't think you want to know the results. You have no right to define the area of discussion in these forums. If you don't like an idea that's suggested, then argument against it. If you think the suggestion is not worth discussing, then fuck off and let those who do discuss it.
  23. This is an extremely fair point. As it stands today, there's often very little use in playing on highly populated server's which have been running for a couple of hours. I'd estimate 70% of towns and all military grade loot locations have been looted. So basically you're risking your life with very little reward playing on these servers. Repawning loot is a must-have over the coming months, as hinted to by rocket in his roadmap post earlier today.
  24. I'll have to jump aboard the nay-train myself. Especially when there's no blood indicator in the GUI, the desaturation is a great indicator of your blood levels. I was taken hostage and had three blood-transfusions taken from me over a total of 15 minutes, and my screen went from vibrant summer feel to a blinding white. In the shittiness of the situation, that was a cool effect. And in addition, it makes the game a little harder if you get injured in combat, which adds some realism.
