  1. it's not a question of fun; it's not a question of me raging; and it's not really a question about sniping, it's a question of story telling. dying can make for a great ending. i just don't think dying that easily adds to the survival aspect of the story. death by long range sniper is too quick and easy a way to die; that's my point - it diminishes everything. there's no struggle, no endurance, no chance of attempted retribution or escape. just black. the end. boring in other words, for everyone except the sniper. what i'm trying to say is that every encounter with another survivor should be personal, in some way. i don't mean taking a shot to the head personally and getting angry, i mean that in a story involving the decimation of mankind there needs to be an emphasise on human contact and interaction - long range sniping is entirely impersonal.

    Anyone else using TrackIR?

    TrackNoIr (http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htm) + ps3eye + CL-Eye-Drivers (http://codelaboratories.com/downloads/) = awesomeness for ~£10. any webcam will do, but i recommend a ps3eye - supports up to 125fps, made for gaming - added bonus of a built-in array mic
  3. i think that's a great idea. i've always thought the odd plane going overhead would be cool as well. just to give the feeling there's survivors elsewhere - it would make chernarus feel like part of a larger event.

stealth kills...? i dunno know if it's just me but when i have a rifle i can't use a hatchet without dropping my rifle.

    chem lights and contrast

yeah, exactly. people use these things to illuminate stuff, not to blind themselves - lol. does the player avatar cast shadows? walking along with a flare at you side would result in massive shadows being cast to one side, right? that could be very cool. pressing alt to look around could make you hold the flare out in front of you.

    Zombies after patch 7.1.1.4

been playing for a couple of hours this eve, and i gotta say i think the zombies are over-reactive again. 2 sound and 1 sight bar in the middle of the night, while crouched, walking on grass with just a chem-stick? whoooaaaa there Nelly! i kinda liked what you did with the sound penalty dependant while prone depending upon surface type, but i think that may also become irritating after a while. daytime in 1.7.1 was not impossible, just kinda boring/irritating on your own, but night time was spot on - absolutely spot on imo. imo you're currently drifting to and fro over a very fine line between challenging/down-right-scary and irritating/boring. i don't think you should go for hyper realism, a bit of fantasy's a good thing. is there any way you can make it so that distance defines the zombies reaction? so if it suspects something it shuffles over, but if it gets a bulls eye it just goes for you? could set up scenarios where zombies are coming to investigate someone who thinks they've stealthed a route etc..? or that they see movement from quite a distance and start shuffling towards it - keep people on their toes kinda thing..? try lowering the sound/sight penalty but putting head based LOS back in? - i mean, just how good is a walking corpse's sight and hearing anyway?

First impressions/experiences of a "New Guy".

the other night i'd spawned, pitch black - out came the flash light. noticed another flash light further down so headed towards it hoping for a friendly. what i got was a friendly moron. needless to say it wasn't long before we were running - for me, not only away from the zeds but also the other survivor, but it was too late, the zeds were on me. then i heard it, a car horn. thought i must have imagened it or that it was was outside my house, but then i heard it again. started screaming in direct comm's "sound off!!!" then i saw the tail lights. with zombies right on my back, flash lights swinging left and right and horns going off i just made it to the car, dived in and we were off. jesus christ i said in direct comms - everyone laughed at me. these guys turned out to be friendly pro's, cruising along with nv. we made it up to somewhere, got kitted up then some bandit pro's jumped us just as we were driving off. they must have been sat there with nv just watching us stock up, waiting for the right time. i died in the back of the truck, riddled with bullets, in a blaze of tracer fire and radio chatter. even bugged to hell and back, this game rules.
  9. played some night hours. 1.7.1 at night is spot on, during the day towns are so unapproachable the game becomes kinda boring unfortunately. night time is amazing though. funny how more more willing to cooperate everyone gets.
  10. i don't why i can't hold a flashlight in one hand and a pistol in the other, fbi stylie..?
  11. gotta say i don't think night's all that realistic - when you in an area with zero light polution the moon lights everything up with an odd silvery glimmer - very hard to define objects over distance because the light's weak and diffuse, but it's not pitch black.

    Do you like 1.7.1?

spawning without a gun's fine, i kinda like it in fact. but the zombies are now impossible. i think the zombie sight and agro distance was spot on in 1.7.0. with 1.7.0 there were great little moments when you could be prone with a zombie wondering past less than 1m away - tension through the roof. all gone now - they've got xray vision. i'm fairly certain that being crouched in head high grass, or prone in tall grass would provide you with very decent cover. also don't like the new zombie spawn. felt better when they hung around urban areas because hiking was a relief - when hiking have maybe one zombie spawn far away from you, as if it's just wondered off into the woods. you should defo be able to clear a town.

    No sound when joining server

same problem - even when connecting to servers with correct versions. it look like once you've connected to a incorrect server you're screwed no matter what you connect to.
