    Passwording public servers

I was under the impression that whitelists are allowed?

    Passwording public servers

Still just too much hassle to report servers. Needs to be able to be done in-game.

    Police Force?

I think it is awesome. However, I believe it would be best executed on a role-playing server.

    Police Force?

Little did he know what they would actually be used for. :D

    Chernarus and a new map

I think it just meant to serve as en example. The same size but in another environment!

    Chernarus and a new map

At the west end of the "northern highway" I stopped and looked both ways. And the view was what I think sums up DayZ perfectly: It's an endless road in the middle of nowhere, clouds, looks like it's gonna rain, pine trees on the sides of the road, It just looks so cool and makes you feel like you are alone in the wilderness. Well too bad if you walk 1 km east boom there is a city. Imagine a 200kmx200km map where cities are 50-100km away from each other so you need a vehicle to travel between them. BUT they are bigger, so one person can't loot it in 10 minutes. Of course there would be smaller villages between them to loot on the way. You would be walking on a road almost dying of starvation and then coming across a lonely gas station and finding the last can of beans to keep you going for another day. Hunting and fishing would be the most reliable food sources and you HAD to make a camp maybe with a small farm in order to stay alive. You could find a small cottage with absolutely nothing around it for many kilometers except a little old path leading there. You could board it up and go hunting before the sun sets. Hiding your camp would be actually possible if you take the time to find a good spot. Chernarus is always Chernarus and it will probably be one of the most played maps even when modding comes out. It has it's own unique feeling and it is a good map overall. But a new map for the players who want a hardcore experience would be a breath of fresh air could be the a nice thing. And if there was a lot of wilderness without towns it wouldn't be an impossible task. Sure the big cities would take a lot of work but I would say it is possible. Maybe share your thoughts on this? I truly feel that these kinds of HUGE maps are needed. You can't even set up camps because the map and thus the forests are too small to be able to hide them properly. You have my beans.

    Where to find Truck Batterys?

I saw a battery in some shed.
  9. IgnobleBasterd

Ok, so all that seems to happen in this patch...

I've wanted to report servers. However, it seems like such a hassle. An easy way to report servers is needed, preferably in-game.
  10. Gone to heaven, everyone? So I played today, for a few hours, after having a break for a couple of months (i think perhaps 3-4 months ago was the last time I played before that). I started in Svetlojarsk and ran around in the NE quadrant of the map (Svelojarsk, Severograg, Gorka, also in the forest areas). I was quite surprised to find that I didn't see one single zombie (!). No animals either. Have zombies been removed for troubleshooting or something? Also, does nails have any use? Another thing I noticed is that paper spawns randomly in my inventory. Strange.
  11. The map isn't big enough, and forests aren't big enough, to set up camps anywhere. You can't really hide camps or put them far enough out in nowhere for them to be hard to find. DayZ needs bigger forests. I'm talking hundreds of square kilometers big forests.

Ark has defecating. DayZ should too!

So, another survival game has defecating: tha game Ark. Ark has dinosaurs, which means that it is by far not as realistic as DayZ, yet it comes with the need to defecate. You may think this sounds ridiculous, but I beg to differ. There are several reasons for this: 1. You may leave tracks in form of feces, which other people could use to track you, or you could use it as a trap. One could even stick their hand in it to feel the temperature and how long it has been since the player defecated at the location. Dig you hand in -> "The feces feel warm to touch" -> Could very well be a trap -> You're dead 2. Could be used as plant nutrition. 3. If you're absolutely starving, and really MUST eat something NOW, eating your own feces could be an emergency solution, or if you are several players you could defecate into each others mouths and eat it. This of course should come with a 95% chance of contracting a disease, but if you manage to stay alive long enough to find a cure and real food, it clearly serves its purpose. 4. If you are dehydrated you could drink your own urine as an emergency solution, or you could pee into each others mouths if you are several characters playing together. 5. You could take prisoners, put handcuffs on them and then defecate and/or urinate on the, as the ultimate psycho/degrading action. 6. If you want to play as a real psycho, you could be naked and smear feces all over your body. Just imagine someone naked and covered in feces running towards you with an axe. Truly horrifying! 7. You would have to find a safe place to defecate, and you would be very vulnerable while doing to. This makes for strategic defecating. Imagine being caught off guard in such a sensitive situation! Just imagine the possibilities!

    What is/was the Cangate incident?

    Anyone ever 'played zombie'?

Actually did that when I didn't feel like playing "for real". Just wandered around and when I saw a player I'd start running towards them, while screaming "FLEEEESH" and trying to kill them with fists or any other melee weapon.

    Bigger Forests please?

You know people live in big IRL cities when they think the biggest forest in DayZ is actually big. :D The biggest forest in DayZ is really small. Not wilderness.

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...

    I tend to disagree.

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...

Which is why the developers need to include functions that stops this from happening. You can't say "don't do it" because people will do it if they gain advantages from it.

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...

Survival is about gaining as much as possible at the expense of as little energy as possible. This is why we are lazy by nature. Defining "exploiting" becomes quite difficult, almost philosophical. The rules are determined by the programmers, and the rules may or may not be intentional. The rule about being able to combat log, for example, is most likely unintentinonal. It is, however, still allowed considering you are perfectly free to do so. Now translate this to reality. If five people came at you with guns blazing, and you had the ability to teleport to safety, would you not do so because you thought it was against the "rules" that god or whatever entity had made up? I am exaggerrating intentionally, of course. There will never be "everyone" doing "this or that", but the vast majority will.
  23. IgnobleBasterd

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...

I AM NOT ARGUING AGAINST THIS. I am saying that if you can exploit, you will exploit. This is why the developers need to include severe penalties for such behaviour, and also why they need to remove the 3rd person view.
  24. IgnobleBasterd

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...

How about increasing character disappearance time to, perhaps, five minutes? This will make it very important to actually finding a safe spot.

Everyone plays the game the way they want, so...

It is amusing that at least 90% of the flamers in this thread are actually doing this themselves. Survival is about taking advantage of the rules presented to you. If combat logging allows you to survive, you do it. Same with 3pp exploits. The developers can solve this by adding penalties until it is no longer worth it, though.
