Best Hacker of All Time... Scariest Moment Ever.
Aeoneth replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I was crawling around kamyshovo the other day as a freshspawn. Just managed to grab an ax and was checking a shed there. As sonn as I was done I heard a zombie aggro and popped my head around the corner. And there staring back at me was this guy. However, he didn't sing, we just kind of stared at each other while I grabbed a screeny. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198001271077/screenshot/576711581998419628 He decided to attack me and as a result I attacked back, we broke each others legs and tried to roll away but the zombies he'd aggro'd finished both of us off. Now we know what horrors lurked under Green Mountain. And we know why the zombies are in Chernarus, they have the power to rival these.. things. -
Why can't i interact with my tent?
Aeoneth replied to jmastersam's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You've even tried Ironsighting (lol not even a word) at the corners? I've found a couple of tents that could only be accessed like that. -
Did the server you were on have side / all chat enabled. If so then if you were in that chat channel when you made the marker then yes everyone else could see the marker. If you were on vehicle / group only you would be able to see it. and direct chat would broadcast the marker to anyone ~40m from you.

How not to kill everyone on sight without being killed.
Aeoneth replied to Cave (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Protip for not getting shot in the back after someone joins you. Don't show yours. Get the FNG to takepoint and direct him to where you wanna go. If he refuses that's a strike against him. You can elect to have 1 of your group go 1st but always keep 1 person with a gun preferably, watching the FNG's back. People tend to be a whole lot more trusting when they know they can get shot from the back. -
Liar, no man can take Green Mountain. You merely believe you can when you are away from that place.

Firepower to the People: my new end game plan
Aeoneth replied to LaurenDanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yaaay another end gamer that isn't a sit-on-a-hill-and-ruin-freshspawns-dayz player. If that ever gets boring for ya you can always follow my route and take up arms against the aforementioned players. Then give some freshspawns their gear. though personally I don't trust freshspawns with high powered snipers. -
As i understand it amongst games... You are generally allowed to edit files that affect your game and your game alone (barring exceptions) FoV and certain textures apply. Where the line is drawn is when making OTHER players become affected. Replacing building textures with glas sor putting everyone in bright pink uniforms fall under here. That is as I understand it, so I don't think its the edited profile data that's causing this.

Question: can I supply you with guns and keep a "tab" of sorts so if I want a weapon fast as a newspawn I can come and collect from you?
-
I like playing a naive but capable survivor. I believe everyone could be friendly and deserves a chance (save for those that shoot at me). But don't approach me if you've heard shots recently as I get jumpy.
-
I've more or less been doing this in on of the CA(nada) servers. grabbing me an L85 and stealthing around the woods waiting for some gunfire to go off. Most of the snipers there are piss poor shots so I usually get a long enough time to narrow em down.

To play Devil's advocate, BattleEye has blocked many people before. If you'e ever seen the message XXX was kicked by Battle Eye that's because the player has been logged as a scripter/hacker. However it can't predict the future, If someone starts hacking the game won't immediately know. It will log the situation and then in a wave of mass bans it will take down a person with enough logs. However, due to the troublesome nature of ARMA2 flexibility (troublesome for the following reason) the game was meant to be customized for any situation that could be contrived. Because of this certain scripts are labelled as "fair" and it's these that are currently causing the players of DayZ trouble. Rocket says he's working on it and the rest of us can only wait until whatever he has planned rolls out. Until then we have to take it in stride and remember rule 1 of dayZ: Don't get attached to your gear.

Few men dare speak of Green Mountain... and even fewer dare speak its name. Save they invite the evils that surround that place. But seriously that thread has all the Green Mountain you need.

How populated is Green Mountain?
Aeoneth replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ohhhh dear. You went... even with all the warnings you went. And worse yet you survived... You have been marked my friend. Green Mountain, and the denizen therein, have chosen you. You don't realize it now but you are one of it's children. You will feel it, an urge to return. You will try to rationalize it, but in the corner of your mind you will always know the real reason. Green Mountain will call you. And you will answer. And when it does.... well.... just remember you were warned not to go. And how do I know all this? Simple my boy... I am one of it's children too. -
Alligators? Oh I really hope rocket is adding alligators. TO hell with wether they should be there or not
-
Hmm, if I could ever get one to spawn I would gladly aid in this endeavour. Even if only to temporarily remove that infernal spire. Maybe after tonights loot raids I might be able to. We should definitely create an anti-paranormal task force. Founded to fight the evils that Green Mountain spews forth.

"Sorry you may have been a friend, you just weren't worth the risk"
Aeoneth replied to Gogster (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with your post with the exception of these 3 points. 1) Yes snipers need to be on par with old Lee Enfield noise (aka ringing the dinner bell) 5) Yesss Ammo is wayyy too common (guns might be as well) However, 2) I'm fine with the damage they do now. Its enough that one or two won't be majorly annoying to deal with, while also ensuring that you pay the price for not paying attention. 3) If anything I think we need more zombies to be spawned around us as well as pockets of them in the woods if possible. I believe combined with the lack of ammo and louder gunshots changes it would really force people into making the decision of "Is shooting my gun now really worth it?" As a sub point there should be a longer period between their spawns that way you don't get the problem of I finish dealing with the initial wave and now a new wave has come that heard the shots from me dealing with the old wave. 4) We already kind of have those positions. And they are good enough that if you take that pose and then get shot at you still have a chance of firing back and saving your skin. 4-5 seconds and most people are dead. -
Only until people learn that NOONE has any ammo. Bandits can kill everyone for their gun and oooh whoopie they just wasted ammo because the guy they just killed has none / a weapon with less ammo than theirs. In any event this is an alpha for a reason. It is my personal belief that Rocket should enact changes such as these along with a master server reset so that everyone can see what its like to be desperate and destute. (would also help with the mass stores of ammo from the rampant duping, at least for a while) Also removing the auto refill glitch (contrary to what everyone believes) will not fix the massive amount of ammo. It's so common that you can easily find more ammo lying around than you will get for abusing the glitch. Zombies are not hard enough either. However right now its a very binary state. Either they are on your ass hoofing it at top speed or they are standing around with their fists up their noses. I think rocket needs to add a middle state where they shamble towards you and when your at the edge of their view it triggers this state. Then once you get closer to them it trigger the ASDF RUNN FOREST RUNNN state.

My brothers... I have returned from a journey to there, though not one I volunteered to go for. You see it all began after I had been shot at Starry Sobor. Getting equipment for myself and my allies. We were plagued with graphical artifacts and as such when we were fired upon my group chose to DC (this was not us alt f4ing like pansies, all night we'd been getting errors like this and when my friends got it I just told them to DC sine they wouldn't be able to see the shooter even if he had been flared.) I was left and attempted to flank my attacker, however I was unsuccessful. I returned to Balota and primed myself with a remington 870 and marched toward starry again, determined to recollect some gear so that I might reconvene with my friends tomorrow. But without a map or compass to guide me I opted to follow the roads. Eventually I made it to a small town and was swarmed by zombies, which forced me into the woods. Picking what I thought was north I trekked through the woods eventually reaching the other side. But what awaited me was not the plains and roads I expected;but instead standing tall, breaking the horizon and piercing into the sky stood the infernal tower. Green Mountain was calling me. And I found myself unable to refuse it's call. I had long since been disconnected from the chat with my friends and now was all alone. With only 2 other players in the server whom I had been chatting with earlier, I knew there would not be any bandits prowling the region. But I was still uneasy after my past experiences with this place. Yet I pressed forward, determined not to let my fear control me. A fools courage guided me toward the cursed spire. The trees in the distance seemed to form shadowy figures beckoning me closer. As they swayed in the wind they seemed to usher me forth with a wave of their "hands". Yet I continued, with naught but my Bastion playlist to keep me company. But it seemed that this too would succumb to the eerieness of this place. For you see although the music played normally as I approached, when I was able to see the gate this began to play. At first I jumped as I was not expecting a vocal sound to begin. But nervously I chuckled at my own skittishness, and continued inside. But the music never changed, instead it looped this song several times. And the game made no sound to challenge it. No buzzing flies again, Not even the moans of the encroaching platoon of zombies. And the zombies themselves were out of sorts. They marched forward as if on a routine patrol. Four standard combat fatigues with two officers falling behind them. they moved forth as a unit only breaking when they noticed my incursion to this place. I wasted no time in attempting to hide from them. Running into the tower and climbing to the top, I listened as the song ended for the sixth time and was followed by nothing. Silence, a moments peace in the otherwise relentless assault on my psyche. However, it was not to last. Even though the silence remained, it was quickly broken by the sound of hands on the rungs of the ladder. But these were not the normal clak, clak, clak of someone climbing the ladder. These were slower, heavier, more bated. I dared not even gaze over the hole for fear of seeing what was taking so long to climb to me. So I waited, and waited, each noise made stabbing deeper into my subconscious mind. Each noise, eroding a part of the sanity that remained in me. Finally the bastardly creature reared it's head, to which I gladly greeted with a shower of lead from my Remington. And as it fell to the ground I felt a small bit of relief. That is before the sound of the scaled ladder returned. The same slow and heavy clak as the first time. When eventually the second creature came into my view I resolved to get the hell out of dodge. I quickly blasted the damned thing and grabbed hold of the ladder. I descended for what seemed like an eternity before finally reaching what I thought was the bottom. But Green Mountain was not quite ready to simply let me leave. My character glitched as soon as his feet hit the ground and shifter into the wall partially. The zombies were directly in front of my face and I panicked. Firing several slugs form my Remington into them I was met only with the sound of glass shattering and zombies aggroing. They ran around the tower and clawed at it in an attempt to reach my terrified flesh. Luckily for me they were unable. I turned my back on them and mashed upon my keyboard attempting anything and everything in my power to escape. Through either divine intervention, or a pity release from the spirits that haunt that place, I was able to escape. I forced my character into a full sprint, out the door, through the gate, through the forest and across the plains. It was only once I was halfway across the plains that I gathered up enough courage to run and look back. And there, not far form the edge of the forest, standing there and looking back at me... were two zombies. No sprinting, no rage. It seemed as if they were merely seeing me off, and taunting me with a "You'll be back" expression. And breaking the horizon, was that infernal tower.

I was reading a thread about a friendly player when someone mentioned shooting a person in the leg and taking their morphine. This got me thinking what if we found a way to knock out players instead of JUST killing them. It would allow friendly / no murder players to fight back without ruining they kill free streaks. It would also give people a chance to give others a chance to identify friendly without making themselves a (huge) target. You could knock out a player you are unsure of take his weapon and then find out about their intentions and from there the player could choose to kill or return the equipment to their captive. But what would constitute a non lethal weapon. Well there could be tranq bolts and darts for both the Crossbow and CZ respectively. Could also be blunt weapons like the crowbar but only slightly do blood damage and do more knock out damage. A beanbag gun / stun gun could be good for medium ranges. Pros: -Gives players a chance to fight back without straight up murder -Would be interesting to knock out a player running from zombies and thus nor be directly responsible for the murder. -Allows for safer, "friendly" confrontations Cons: -Trolling (constant KOs) -Might not necessarily fit the setting

Have this spawn only at night.
Aeoneth replied to xTLRxPrototype (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That looks like something out of the SCP Foundation. Keter class I would think. -
I'm sure rocket plans to add more guns eventually. But right now I'd like to see guns with other effects than "those things fall down dead". Maybe something like "those things fall down unconscious." :P

Lol I love these ideas. I'll take a Stab at it. The Crazy Hippy Roleplay a drugged up crazy person. Muttering phrases that make no sense and occasionally screaming at the top of your lungs (can be about anything like spiders, insects, snakes etc) Follow around the 1st person you see and help them out (stalking can work too) Bonus points if you get a survivor to be so unsettled by your acts that they Try and escape you.

That sucks OP. It's rare you find a sniper that's good with a Lee and is capable of handling the aggro that comes with it.
