I have more than 300h in DayZ, so I believe I can suggest a resolution to the "Buddy" (friend) problem in DayZ. After some time you get used to running to find your friends, but you shouldnt need to get used to anything. I think the simplest solution would be to just make a "Buddy" system. It would be sort of like the system that is in CS GO right now. Before joining a server you would go to a "Buddy/Friendlies" button on the main menu where you can browse for groups. The only way you can join a group is if you do not have a character who has been alive for longer than (for example) 10 minutes. Now this might sound like a bad idea, but it would ensure that there would be no way to abuse the system for loot farming. I hope the developers see this and maybe tweak it into something that could make the game easier :)
