  1. Just been wondering since it is soon approaching on the roadmap. I have had experience with so called "aerial transport" on the mod. Personally the idea of seeing it again isn't one I like. I understand it was easy to port over some of the choppers from Arma2 and because most everyone that came over from Arma2 were proficient in how to use them it was an easy sell. That was back in the mod and this is the stand alone. I don't think it requires re-implementation. Can you imagine if the makers of Counter Strike decided to keep the ability to carry a dozen weapons from Half-Life? It wouldn't be the game it is today if they had just decided to port it over and go the easy way. Anyways what does the rest of the more active community members think? Leave your argument for/against and maybe we can reach some kind of consensus on what direction we think this should go.

    New weapon confirmed? VSS Vintorez

PSO scopes generally have their own range finders. Shoot enough zombies with one and you will probably become an expert at finding distance. This is why I would rather not see it. It will become the omni rifle.

I think your post count is high enough to warrant an award.. You don't need to continue raising it with stupid garbage.

I'm sorry I had no idea you were Russian special forces. Like hell it can't penetrate a hard plate. With standard issue hardened steel or tungsten it can make swiss cheese of hardened 1/5" steel at 100m. Of course this could be carefully planted Russian propaganda to strike fear into their enemies but I doubt it. Also there is no armor penetration in DayZ? I guess I'll start wearing my motorcycle helmet to defeat snipers now. How is the AK the paper that cover's the VSS' rock?

"most players" are scavengers going building to building getting hacked to pieces with axes and peppered with shotguns. That is because getting a scope, a rifle, the ammo and finding the right target is alot harder than running amok through a town and jumping at everything that moves. That has nothing to do with what we are talking about though. Nobody needs to stand still when you have 10-20 rounds of fully supressed and highly accurized lead at your disposal. For as long as you have ammo and as long as your target remains in your line of sight the fight is going to be completely one sided. Hell your target will be lucky just to find out what is going to put cover between him and you. Not to mention your standard 100m fight is still going to be ruled by a VSS in full auto as long as he isn't completely outnumbered.

Actually the VSS round can penetrate a steel plate a 500m. So ontop of being able to participate at what is currently max range sniping it can also make armor obsolete. Also there is the feature that makes the VSS compactable and able to be fitted in a suitcase. Do I see high capacity vest compatability in the future? Maybe. I honestly can't see this gun not becoming OP as fuck.

I was under the impression the devs wanted to cut down on omnipotent snipers. Now they are introducing a permenantly silenced, pinpoint accurate, and full automatic one? Talk about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan wank. AS Val would be much more appropriate if you want to go down that road.

I'm not doubting that you did but I was talking about a single engine Cessna and how it would go down in a realistic scenario. Since there is no actual difference between roads and someone's field that they plowed other than texture you can essentially make anything your runway no matter how ridiculous. Hell you could land an airplane in 5 feet of water and notice no discernible difference going off ARMA2. My argument in a nutshell is this game could handle helicopters since their interaction with terrain is very limited but can't handle airplanes in any way that will satisfy even people with the most limited knowledge of physics.

Why can't I compare this game to others? GTA games like San Andreas have a map roughly the size of Chernarus (or South Zegoria I'm told). In fact it is actually smaller and that game even has jets. The thing is if you want any semblance of realism you're not going to be taking off with single engine Cessnas in the open fields. If you needed to make an emergency landing you might put one down there but you're not going to get it back up, not without a huge accident. You're either stuck to the airfields or those rare stretches of road that aren't on the coast where even just a mild breeze is going to push you into a mountain. Trust me I'm a private pilot with 80+ hours experience in operating a Cessna 172. Without some serious skill and luck that is not even feasible. As for the likelihood that there are cropdusters laying around I highly doubt that. The region where all the farms are is around an airfield and if you know anything about airfields it is that flying your crop duster around it is highly dangerous and illegal not to mention there is a military base just to the south of it and any flyover could elicit a some serious consequences. None of the farms are big enough to require a cropdusting anyways. Moving on you said a Cessna makes more sense than any other aircraft (I'm assuming you're talking about military choppers). All I am going to say about that is if I had one and my homeland just turned into a warzone I would have picked it up and got out on day one, military helicopters would have been in the area for a much longer time. As for seaplanes I have no experience with those and if they are just going to be used to cruise the coastline they sound pretty useless. So moving back for a second lots of the people who are advocating for airplanes want them to require a large amount of repairs. Something very difficult to do, for that you would need to be an actual mechanic to know how to accomplish it. I can't even begin to tell you how ridiculous I think it is you have to go around scavenging through farmhouses and industrial buildings looking for specific engine parts and the specific windscreen you need. You say I can't reference other games? Fine, but that is straight up video game logic right there. Lastly "more than half of the dayz community has already voiced their opinion that they want planes and even choppers" is a cherry pick. 100 people isn't the entire DayZ community. I want to keep this poll up and going up until Q3 before we start reaching conclusions like that.

Did you even need the windscreen? Couldn't you just go into third person view in the mod?

I don't really know what game you guys are playing that you think it is a good idea to have airplanes. Maybe in Grand Theft Auto it makes sense to hijack a plane and cruise to your destination for 2 and a half minutes because that game is centered around near mindless entertainment where if you're made to try to accomplish something for more than 5 minutes you will probably feel like turning the game off. That is probably why they introduced fast travel after GTA SA. Chernarus isn't that big. Going from the most southwest point on the map to the most northeast is 20km. Going the top speed of a standard single engine Cessna you can make that entire trip in just 4 minutes. Don't get me wrong, going from Vybor to Berizino in under 2 minutes sounds tempting but it just removes all the challenge. Additionally there is limited space to land. The only areas flat enough to take off and land are by the airfields and you are guaranteed to get ganked the moment you land at any one of them so while it may sound like a good idea to play around with one it really isn't.

    Possibilities for the endgame

I had this idea I posted on the steam forums in response to someone who was asking for ideas for a better endgame but that isn't really the best place to start a good discussion about the game so I'm bringing it here to see what you guys think. Taking a queue from MMO's lets create a raid mission DayZ style. No quest line, no NPCs, and no scripted events. Just one seriously hard to impregnate "dungeon" if you will and who ever you can convince to try it with you. The reason you would dare try it is this... Some of the world's top scientists were sent to Chernarus to study the infection. They were under heavy military guard and their goal was to find a cure that could stop someone from becoming a zombie and possibly even keep them immune. The facility they were using was as secure as it can get. Underground, thick concrete, blast doors, short dark hallways... you know all the works. They could have continued their work with impunity as long as it took to find the cure but something went horribly wrong. It could have been a guard who got infected on one of their many runs outside to find and capture a specimen for the scientists to study or it could have been something more sinister, maybe a scientists decided to start playing god and tried to modify the infectious virus to make someone more than human. We don't really know what happened but whatever happened the facility was quickly overrun and the evacuation order came. The helicopters came and took as much staff as they could but it was too late. Most of those rescued were carriers now and with helicopters already overloaded taking them down was easy once someone turned into one of those things. Now the facility is silent. The workers at the facility locked the doors behind them before they left and took the keys with them when they were evacuated with the hopes that perhaps they could return and continue the work that was done there. With everyone dead though it doesn't look like that remains a possibility. (this is where you come in) One day as you're left wandering the wasteland that was once chernarus you come across one of the crashed helicopters of the failed evacuation and in it you find a strange key. With it you have the ability to reopen the lab and see what lies inside but you don't want to go alone. You put a rag tag group of survivors together and you all decide it is worth it to check this place out. When you get there you notice the area is infested with the worst types of zombies, the heavily armored kind. You and your group hasn't come this far just to turn back though. You work together to bring them all down and when you're done you approach the doors. The guy with the key uses it to unlock it and you are greeted with nothing but a large dark room. As you enter you see signs of a massive struggle. Blood everywhere, bodies piled up against fighting positions, and nothing but silence. As your group continues the large room comes to an end. To continue you must go through a maze of cramped hallways and long stairwells and that is where you meet the inhabitants of the facility. They come at you fast and with little warning. No matter how careful you try to be they keep getting close. You are firing weapons at point blank range, just missing your comrades by mere inches as you try to keep them off of each other. Every now and then you see evidence of what the scientists were actually up to. Lab tables covered in blood, human body parts under microscopes, some really gruesome looking found footage on a projector of a live specimen being dissected. Then just when it looks like it is too hard to continue on you reach the end. Battered and bloodied you come across what it was all for. Amongst the lab equipment and failed experiments you find what makes it all worth it. Vials of the cure. The end. I think this is the direction the game should go. It gives a meaning to all the work you go through getting geared and establishing relationships with other survivors. Without heroes anymore there is not much incentive to have positive player interaction anymore. Stand alone looks like it will just be a lot of people avoiding contact and others grouping up for the purpose of protection and/or the thrill they get when they kill other players. The future looks pretty bleak even with animal companions who wont betray you. So how about give people a reason to band together and fight the one true enemy, the infection. Shift some of the focus from almost entirely being centered around PvP and bring it back to some of the PvE elements of the game. You could make it in the form of a underground facility in the far northern reaches of the map or put it out to sea on an oilrig or small island. Load it up with 200 army infected. Stash it with plenty of those storytelling elements you use to make the player guess for himself what happened then make the loot legendary and worth the effort. That can be done in a number of ways. Make it a cure or permanent immunity like I said. Or make it incomplete so you have to take the lab equipment with you and find out how to go about finding the cure in your own way. This can be used to enhance the already existing PvP structure as well. A whole meta could evolve around betraying your group to take all the science gear for yourself or rationing it out to whoever is the highest bidder for gear. Maybe we will find it out it has a side effect that lets a player infect whoever he wants with his own bodily fluids so a new meta would evolve around bandits taking prisoners and biting them or giving them an infected blood transfusion. The possibilities are immense. So what do you guys think? There doesn't have to be something like what I came up with. I am mainly just spitballing to see what you guys might want. A DayZ raid mission with legendary loot like I said or something else? What would you guys do to add to the endgame?

The mod had infection so I'm under the assumption that it is being carried over.

    Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

Yeah I kind of made a mistake when I made this poll. I let people select multiple answers on the first question when I didn't mean to and it inflated the number of yes'. To be clear you guys should just select one of the yes answers not two or three. I thought that was pretty straightforward considering they contradict each other in their wording but hey. Everyone makes mistakes.

Two sight options for PU scope

Two sight options for PU scope

I'm assuming you find the mount + screws + directions when you find the scope. It is fairly unlikely you will find a scope without a gun attached to it unless its still in a box. Also there are still some old soviet era PU scopes floating around the optics market. Some of the chernarusians could have acquired a few if some of them just weren't hand-me-downs from their elders who fought in the great war. As for AKM with a side rail, yes that is pretty odd. AKMs have been phased out of most militaries and when they were popular they all used ironsights but a side rail on a military AK74 or 101 is pretty believable. You also have to remember this part of Eastern Europe saw a large military reaction to the infection so some quality and surplus military equipment would be laying around.

Two sight options for PU scope

SKS can mount a PU, you need a special mount but it is doable. The Mosin apparently doesn't need a mount either for the PU. As for the adjustments it is pretty unrealistic but so is attaching a scope and having it zeroed right away. Some people can actually match irons with the scope pretty well and with the dual sight pictures on side mounted rifles makes it pretty easy. I would say zeroing it perfectly to 300 meters is a bit of a stretch, but hey so is a zombie apocalypse!

A new sniper rifle and a new LRS

I don't like the idea of slow military quality bolt action snipers. If you were getting sent to fight hordes of unarmed fast moving zombies I would bring a semi-automatic like the SVD. High precision and caliber sniper rifles like the M40A3 just don't have a place. Hunting rifles are more believable.
