  1. Is the true dark a server side setting admins can change? All the Aus servers are only "grey-dark" along with the NZ ( tho i didnt bother checking every NZ server just tested a few ). "Grey-dark" ( allows gamma hack ) makes the game so boring and easy, I really liked the pitch black nights.

not fun to die to campers

Remove 3rd person. Implement unique full range zombie pathfinding. This will help alleviate camping.
  3. 3rd person removal is balance priority. Yes it gives an unfair advantage in certain circumstances, for instance players in high positions can view down without being seen while the target below cannot utilize this mechanic in reversal because of terrain differences. Although Im now doubting whether DayZ will ever amount to more than a freebie side project fun mod. To be successful it will need to cater for the (casual ) masses which will result in an easy-mode imbalanced trash heap.
  4. Or you could try strafing sideways. Also carrying a m1911 in your hands will reduce your detection to a 1 sound bar crouch running in any direction, this will work with other "heavy" weapons.

This is the best PVP game ever created

I wouldnt go as far to say its the "greatest" pvp game ever. Ultima Online prior Jan 2000 will always be heralded to many as the greatest , simple yet effective pvp and more freedom/sand than any other game since. DarkfallOnline was very close to recreating this genre while also rewarding skilled players ( Eve's PvP does not compare so dont even bother, when EvE includes FPS interaction then it may be comparable ) but unfortunately the microwave I want it now wowscrub generation could never handle such a game. DarkfallOnline 2.0 will be the next big thing for full loot open world FPS MMORPG with open PvP but unfortunately AV are very slow with development. It will always be a niche game catering for a niche crowd but that is why there will always be subscribers. You can't get this feeling anywhere else. I pity gamers who have never experienced such games and regard DayZ as the "best". Its a fun alpha mod but far from the best.

Is 3rd person really going away?

Comprehension fail? Because the defensive player can see his target without having LOS? A player on top of a tower can see below without ever revealing himself, while a player below does not have the ability see the location up top.

Is 3rd person really going away?

Sovereigns post is completely off regarding LOS. 3rd person gives reward without risk. How is being able to see around a corner without risking being spotted ( either peering with your head or using a mirror ) balanced? It's not. End of story. It is not about realism, it is about balance. This game is not PvP based, but PvP is part of the game. When you have 1 life and the possibility of losing all of your items, why should a defensive camper have an inhuman advantage with 0 risk?

Is 3rd person really going away?

Remove third person. It has many advantages over 1st person and there are very few 1st person enforced servers. 3rd person allows you to peer around corners/over objects which you should not with your headpoint LOS. Basically WoWscrubs crutching on easy-mode mechanics like gamma "hack", when it is there everyone will use it ( or if they do not want to be disadvantaged are forced to ).
  9. Loving no side chat, if theres side chat enabled on the server then I will leave unless there are no other local servers available. Hated all the retarded drivel spewed through the chat system as it constantly broke the immersion. Go join an irc channel if you want to talk cross continent. Feel sorry for the newbs but the information on how to play is not that hard to find, browse the forums/youtube/google.

    Why so much rage?

    gtfo wow scrub
  11. No. Unique name persistence, one per account. Reputation will determine humanity.

IF this was an actual game...

DayZ hype is growing at an astronomical rate for an alpha freebie mod. Capitalize on this to produce both an excellent end product and make moneyz. Whether it is a stand alone game or a mod it really depends on what you want to achieve and what is required to get it done. The game has so much potential it is hard to consider it a mere mod. Once off purchase - Once the game reaches a competent playable beta state , allow pre-purchase of the game to gain access to this beta ( ala GW2 ). A subscription model won't work unless you plan to host many servers across all locations which would be very tricky to pull off the correct ratio. Additional purchasable skins would also be nice but nothing that actually effects gameplay. These items should require players to still pick them up and not automatically added to the character upon purchase. Studio/community developed? - The game needs a very professional approach while also listening to community feedback. At the end of the day you need to have a vision for the game while the community will help nitpick on the finer details. Private servers for the current project are fine but admin powers of servers would need to be severely limited to help stop abuse and cheating. Kickstarter? Yes? Whatever you gotta do to get things rolling. I like the idea mentioned of a fee to participate in the alpha. This could be subtracted from the end game price. Also as mentioned this would deter hackers/cheaters to a degree. You are sitting on a gold mine, how successful it will be is dependant on the overall quality of end product and the business model employed to fund, develop and market.

Amazing game takes dive. Player worries.

Ive been playing dayz for only a few days. The patch hit me hard but Ive never been broken by a challenge. Priding on myself as a "hardcore" non wowscrub I found DayZ to be a refreshing fill of uber gaming. Searching for weapons unarmed upon respawn is quite frustrating and crawling through towns can be rather tedious but previously without any prior experience to DayZ, I could navigate through towns unharmed ( aside from PvP ) without a challenge regardless of engaging zs or not but now I have to approach all encounters with a new sense of caution. I rather enjoy the dark nights, in every other game "gamma cheating" has punished those that choose to immerse themselves with realism. The current mechanics are IMO far from perfect ( obviously? ) but the changes are stepping in the right direction.
