I need a Blood Transfusion in Berezino. +REWARD!
goblinshark replied to josuna123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have sent you a request. -
Jesus, really? Do you people ever read? http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=8029 WELL WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT - HE SPECIFICALLY STATED THIS ISSUE IN A PERSONAL FORUM POST, ROCKET HIMSELF, HUH. "It will be patched out, very easily, in a future update. The update is ready to go and will be released when the Beta patch for ArmA2 is out." He hasn't done it yet because it's FUCKING ALPHA - and EVERYONE is going to lose EVERYTHING they EVER worked for.

Which T-Shirt design would you buy?
goblinshark replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Option 1 & 2 are both great. I personally like 1: Option1: A bit more nerdy, a deeper reference to the game, "I survived (x) games" seemingly painful alpha. Option2: Just a straight reference to a game you love. -
'bin\config.bin/cfgweapons
goblinshark replied to AndyPandy44 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Can you post a screenshot of the error? There are two types of errors generally associated with this problem: 1) An internal memory / computing error between the .exe and your computer, this error will crash the game, and may be related to having misplaced mod files scattered through your C:\ drive. 2) An in-game configuration error that nearly everyone deals with. This error will NOT crash your game, and shouldn't affect gameplay. If this is a clickable error, you should be fine. As of the most recent patch, you are not supposed to spawn with weapons, so you shouldn't be seeing them whether or not you have that error. Additionally, please post a SS of what is happening when you try to loot weapons. Use both "G", middle mouse button clicking, and mouse scrolling to try and select the weapons. Make sure you are highlighting it in your inventory selection menu, and clicking the arrow to move it into your inventory. Also, make sure you have room for the weapon, or it simply may not work. Edit: after I posted this response I saw that your error was #2, I'm glad it works! -
Have you guys tried different servers? By different, I mean from around the world? Try servers from different countries and time zones and see how that treats you. That sounds like a connectivity issue between you and the remote host. Also check your firewall / antivirus - make sure that the exe's and file for this game are not restricted in any sense or form. Maybe even temporarily disable them to see if that is the issue.

Will the game eventually become a zombie survival game?
goblinshark replied to dds__@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And there goes any constructive debate or discussion that may have even had a chance of occurring. Saying, "yes all pvpers" is immediately wrong, and a deviation of the logic of what I was saying. I specifically noted that the crowds that do it are unique, and even used myself and personal examples as a contrast to show the difference in PvP'ers and the shapes and forms the come in. Really, I was trying to accentuate the trolls, because THAT was what PvE'ers complain about, not PvP in general. Pompous? High and mighty? You have research to do, sir. Again, you generalize without reading. If I had to guess, I would argue you formulated your response before finishing reading everything I posted, and finished your formulated response before ever even finishing my post. I myself am a gamer in my 20's, and was not targeting GAMERS in their 20's, but a specific groups of gamers in the range of 20-30+. A woman? You talk about generalizing, compartmentalizing, and reticule specific groups, then deem me a "woman" or "dandy" because of how you wrongly perceive my thoughts on game play? That's ironic if I have ever seen it. I understand the content of the game, and if you read my posts you will see that I agree with you, but you choose to be immature and nonconstructive in contributing to the community instead of partaking in dialogue. I Understand PvP, and again, PvP is fine. I'm merely highlighting the trolls that kill because it makes their little ticker count / epenis look cooler for a few days until they die. That's not what pseudo even means, it has nothing to do with professional psychology or a psychology class. It's almost conventional wisdom understanding the entry-level mental workings of a PvP'er. On numerous occasions you insulted my character, all while propagating the exact same character traits you used to describe me. You dedicated such an offensive and overzealous post to telling someone they're offensive and overzealous. Huh. -
Will the game eventually become a zombie survival game?
goblinshark replied to dds__@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would definitely argue that it is not "more so." If anything, an even split, but I do not think that PvP is the primary or leading focus for that matter. PvE players don't draw the line, but they are inherently at a disadvantage. I myself am a PvP'er, which judging by the offensive and aggressive tone of my last post, you may find ironic. But mainly, I was trying to shed light on the aggressive trolling of most PvP'ers, not not merely the act of PvP itself. Players starting unarmed in a post-apocalyptic zombie environment, and having to forage through towns accumulating gear against players that are camping with NVG's and a sniper rifle with a 12x zoom that are killing them merely to show off a ticker count to their "bros," is not PvP, not in its lowest sense. I Ultima Onlije is a different story, but I understand where you are going with it. In regards to pic threads, you can find them on most any significant or deeply rooted gaming community. And actually, many of the trolling and offensive players have a unique level of asshole to their look that "normal" or less offensive players don't possess. I myself am a fully sleeved, back tattoo, 6'2 service member, I possess plenty of traits to be categorically branded as a PvP'er, asshole, troll, what may you. But I enjoy letting other players have fun too. We're all playing and competing together here, it's a developing community. -
Will the game eventually become a zombie survival game?
goblinshark replied to dds__@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are a few ways to combat this issue. 1) The removal or significant limiting of weapons. Removal is a bit extreme, I understand. However, limiting both weapon availability and choice would make the game less PvP-intensive. The fact that a player can simply grab a sniper rifle and troll off of a building in Cherno like it was designed for that is pretty odd. To balance out the lack of weapons, you could add other features, other implementations. More miscellaneous items. 2) More abundant, aggressive zombies. This is an incredibly interesting topic of contrast. Players cry and moan about zombies being too easy, you make them harder and they cry and moan about zombies being too hard. You want a challenge? You want a simulator? Make them harder. That doesn't mean making them unrealistic, as in hearing you through concrete walls when you're prone. But it means making them more deadly when they DO attack, e.g. spreading infections, breaking bones more often. Additionally, making MORE zombies is a great idea once FPS / optimization issues have been fixed. Roaming hordes of zombies is an excellent idea, and a great way to really increase player immersion and perception - if you know there's 30+ zombie hordes roaming around that could strike at any moment, you're going to be more alert, more careful, and more ready to play. The most unfortunate thing about this game is the PK'ing. Occasionally I'll get into firefights or melee fights that require killing another players, or equally as often being killed myself. PK'ing and PvP invites extremely immature crowds. Immature doesn't mean young, it just means immature. The thought of PvP is often attractive to people who enjoy having fun at other people's expense, even in real life. It also is a void to fill in people's lives that think they're funny or comical. There are a lot of negative traits associated with people, psychologically, that are attracted to PvP and the trolling of people. In a competitive PvP game, that is one thing. In a survival zombie game like this, where PvP isn't the focus, but pissing people off is a possibility, you get a LOT of douche bags. Many of them have streams / Youtube feeds, and other immature idiots log on and like/comment on it. It's a pretty funny crowd to watch. Most of these goatee-bearing, 20-something 30-something year old, mountain dew-drinking, massive headphone-wearing guys are pretty annoying outside the games as well from what I have experienced. -
Interactive Chernarus Map
goblinshark replied to ryan@fantikerz.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Great map! Not much more to say than that, it helps me get done what I need to get done. -
Yes. Firstly, people need to stop fucking treating this game like a paid-for post-release product. This is an ALPHA game. It's not about supporting you because you're "bored." It's about getting a clean game developed that works, is mostly bug-free, and the community is in agreement that it's ready for release. That is what testing is for. Secondly, the more "maps" there are, the more "spread out" people get, the more distant you get from the master database, the more lonely the game will get. Right now, you can interact with people in this persistent world every server you go to. If there were different maps that you had all your characters spread out over, or they doubled the map size without doubling the amount of players on it, it would simply become more tedious and less fun.
-
Turok was not a survivor-based drama game. It was a guided-fps. What the OP suggested would be fucking awesome. Not that it's anywhere near feasible in this game right now, but it would be fun. It would take some of the annoying "bandit" shit out and not trusting yourself with 10-year-old minded people. And instead, you would have to team up to make it North, instead of just surviving in the cities.
-
This is a relatively common topic for threads lately, and a serious one. While I personally have not done it, yet, I do think it should be an issue that is addressed. You talk about a game of survival, a game in which you can simply click the wrong button while editing options and immediately delete everything you spent your time off from work earning. This should be in the suggestion forum, and posted as a suggestion rather than a complaint.
-
Traps are an excellent idea. In a game that takes place a a persistent and evolving world, one in which your commodities are persistent as well, it would make sense to be able to defend your loot. Being able to trap up your tent area would be a great idea. The issue though would be people trapping known loot spawn points and other high traffic areas. There could maybe be limits/parameters set around how you can or cannot set a trap. Again, a great idea to experiment with, but its got a ways to go before we get there.

I would like to see a new bandit system.
goblinshark replied to BadAnti's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Firstly, the title should reflect the post. So instead of "bandit rankings," it should be, "good/bad karma ranking system." Now. I like and dislike the idea of a karma system. Here's why I dislike it: - The karma system, firstly, is going to be used by min/maxers. Nobody, using the scale you provide, is going to want to be a Crossing Guard, a Thief, a Samaritan. Anyone utilizing Karma will want to be either a) Psycho or b) Savior. I also see a karma system promoting more manipulative behavior, trying to exploit game concepts. - You should, and would lose your karma each death. As the game stands, you are a BRAND NEW human being each time you make a new character, not a persistent one. As such, it wouldn't make sense to retain your karma as a person in this world. I could see it being bound to profiles, not players, but that would not make a lot of sense, really. Here's why I like it: - With the way the game is currently laid out, bad players can be bad and relentlessly so, because as you already stated, they have the advantage. They can sneak, wait, ambush, kill on sight, manipulate.... the map is in their hands, much like a network hacker. In contrast, "good" players and especially "neutral" players have virtually no motivation to be "good." It's really hard to trust anyone after you have low-crawled for 6 hours then were shot and killed by someone you tried to help. With the implementation of a karma system, both neutral AND "good" players would be motivated to do good deeds and seek out other players to do "good" with. Bandits, however, would still be solo often times, giving them less of an advantage. Final analysis: - I think a karma system would need a lot of discussion and tweaking before being a fully developed and semi-fair implementation. However, I do feel that the positives of a karma system would outweigh the negatives. While it does seem that a karma system is not intuitive to this type of game, seeing as it's a mostly solo "real-world" military simulated zombie survival game, the benefits outweigh the loss in "realism." An efficient, clean karma system would enable players to not only decipher who is better or worse, but additionally, they have motivation to be better themselves. -

I find deep doubt in many of these diluted posts claiming how "ULTRA QUIET" (x) person was when suddenly, ZOMBIES from the shades of hell appear and attack them. There are over 8 people from my work playing this game now, and 5 more en rout. None of us, as of yet, have experienced this over-aggressive zombie action. There are times where they aggro from way further than they should when you are at a full "C" sprint or sometimes an "X" run. However, while prone, I'm virtually undetectable. There are so many immature and inexperienced video gamers logging on here, hearing about it, downloading it, and expecting CoD, BF3, WoW, or some other mainstream game. This is a military simulator-based zombie post-apocalyptic SURVIVAL game. You aren't SUPPOSED to start with anything. The number one word I think that can describe people's issues here is patience, nobody has it. People just want to run in guns blazing and fight other people and slay zombies. Go buy Left 4 Dead or something if those are your intentions. You have to crawl, SLOWLY, throw tin cans and other objects to distract zombies. That gear you have should be both hard to find and hard to get. After that, it's a sneaking game. Everyone continues BEGGING for "realism," then when realism is thrown in their face they cry. You will not be running around owning up cities by yourself in "real life" under these circumstances. To continue enhancing the difficulty of this game while maintaining the current experience, the coders need to continue fixing bugs and other technical issues for a cleaner game, while not taking away from the difficulty. Stop your complaining, this forum sounds like a bunch of 8-year-old kids who just got slapped in the mouth by their mom because they drank out of the milk carton without a glass. *no offense to the good 8-year-old players who are doing good without talking* I REALLY hope Rocket and the other people developing this project don't give in to the cries for an easier game. I promise you, start a character with PATIENCE in mind, and you will succeed. You will need to crawl, wait, and search, but you will succeed.

To whom it may concern, As of late, I spent a lot of time on these forums. I work 12-16 hour shifts at work on computers and always have this website up on my alternate computer. I don't have the best night / digital computer vision. Generally, white, red, or any bright color like green or pink against a black background are very hard to see for me and create a strain on me eyes. Generally, I don't mind having trouble reading a forum, but with the time I plan to invest in this one, I would like to see if any other people have the same problem as me. It could also be the font, maybe a default bold font or a font type that is a bit thicker and lesser abrasive against the black background? Usually, to help keep my eyes from burning, I have to highlight all the text with my mouse to make it a bit easier to read. I don't want to give suggestions, as it is not my forum. However if requested, I would be more than willing to give examples that are less penetrating. I understand that these forums go in concert with the theme of the game, and I do not want to undermine that. And as such, if this post is irrelevant or intrusive, please delete or lock it. Thank you.

just an idea.......how about tranquilizer rounds?
goblinshark replied to mattckd's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No. Here's why - given both the lore of zombie and the environment of this particular video game, it simply does not fit in. Imagine, constantly being Tranqed, then looted for everything you have, AND unable to play the game for (x) amount of time. I just don't like that. Also, a tranq would most likely be a 1-shot-kill sort of gig; basically, someone shoots you one single time with it, then raids you for everything you have. I would imagine with it being silent as well nobody would even know it happened. I just don't think it's a good idea. It is a good suggestion, but not a good one to implement in this type of a game. I would like to hear other people's opinions on it, though. Because even when I try to theorycraft possible "good" and "productive" uses for it, I get nothing. Gobby -
To initiate some sort of balance, why not make it similarly as hard to forge an AA weapon as it is to repair and start up a helicopter? Make it so it requires mutliple <1% drop chance items that most people in all likelihood wouldn't get. You RARELY run into choppers in flight, it wouldn't be very good to have the entire map riddled with AA. However, with low spawn rates and assembly, there would surely be at least one person on a large map that had one somewhere. People could collaborate and engage in a team effort to take it down. It would inspire communal interactivity and the chopper pilot would have to keep on his toes knowing one could be out there in the woods waiting for him. Just thoughts.

Journals/Diaries for writing down Events.
goblinshark replied to TonyStarks's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That's just it, it IS only for entertainment purposes. There's one word that truly shines out in this concept from the OP's post, and that's "immersion." This isn't a game where people hop on and slaughter people then log off, for the most part. This game is about IMMERSION, about surviving in a most hostile and unforgiving environment. I don't see there to be a need for any practical reason to have journals, but I would LOVE to read the journal of someone I killed, or found. Better yet, you run into someone in the heat of battle, someone you witnessed be killed, someone you never had a chance to speak to. Where did they come from? How long were they alive? Is there anything in the area you should be alerted to? It doesn't negate the playing experience for anyone who decides not to use the journals, it can only benefit those who would use them. I for one would write about any significant experience I underwent. Maybe I narrowly escaped a bandit, maybe I narrowly escaped zombies while foraging in a city, who knows! The main thing is, someone, somewhere, would love to read it and be immersed in the game. It creates a more realistic atmosphere without sacrificing video game logic / playability. As mentioned already, of course there's going to be trolls, of course there will be foul language and ascii drawings. You can close the journal just as quickly as you opened it. -
It's Impossible to See at Night! - Other threads will be locked/deleted!
goblinshark replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love the night, both in real-life and in-game. However, this night is something terrible. It's really inconvenient when you are force to undergo 2 options as a new player: 1) Run in the dark and pray you aren't attracting zombies or being scouted by players with NVG's or some other midnight advantage 2) Run while intermittently turning on your flashlight to check where you are - again at a risk of having a trigger-happy player slaughter you on the spot 3) Simply run around with the flashlight on as a beacon to the server saying - HEY, CAPTAIN NEWB BOY HERE COME TAKE MY SHIT All three of those options are terrible. As suggested above ambient moonlight / starlight is an excellent option. Not only will we retain the "scary" post-apocalyptic ambience of the game, but you can navigate a bit better 24 hours a day. I find myself constantly searching for servers that are on day time. Which means at night I can't even play on local servers, not without hassle. -
I disagree with OP. I do agree with first response, though. It's a survival, war-time simulator based video game. Not a corporate-funded, "hey everyone, enjoy, it's easy and great!" game for the masses. The game is designed for people who want a challenge and a zombie post-apocalyptic experience. To be honest, what is the difference between dying in single player mode, and dying on a server? Nothing, really. I think about 2-3 hours I had a pretty good idea of all the basics. Only had to die 2-3 times for it to work out like that. This isn't CoD, you don't log on with prior FPS experience and slaughter people. You need to learn some new things, e.g. a clunkier interface and handling, slower acquisition of items and inventory, slower progress through the game, and a greater loss of equipment. Just hop on a server and enjoy, sir.

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
goblinshark replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes. Reasons have already been stated in the thread. It's subtle and quick, make sure it expires after each death/server change.
