  1. Sorath (DayZ)

    New Player here

Here is my advice. First pick servers that are low populated and stick to servers with the least amount of players. This will make your life easier. Once you get weapons and ammo and are better supplied you can move over to more populated servers. The reason I suggest this is because no one and I mean no one can be trusted. The more players are on a server the more likely you are to get killed. Playing on low populated servers means you get hit some military instillation with out getting popped by enemy players and that is where you will find better gear and what not. When you spawn find a weapon asap. Ax or Fire Ax are your best choice but sledge hammer or Pick Ax will work. Once you have this you just have to learn how to time the Zombies so you can reduce how often your hit. Also don't use fire arms on Zombies trust me there not worth it. As stated head inland as quickly as you can. I generally hang out in land long enough to find food, water, and some sort of weapon. If I cant find anything I make my way inland. The further inland you get on a low populated to no populated server the better your chance are finding stuff. Us http://dayzdb.com/ as your map. At some point try and figure out where you are and then start setting tasks as for where you want to go. I generally start moving inland and head towards military bases. As a rule thumb I am super paranoid. When I get on populated servers I will scope out things before I move in. If I see a player I do not hesitate to kill them. I have no compassion, no mercy and no tolerance for other players. In fact I very much have a deep seeded hatred of all players. The more heavily armed a player is the more I am likely to stalk that person and kill them. Let me let you in on a secret one that will give you an edge over almost every one in the game. Know your surroundings. Learn the cities like back your hands. Learn the cities will help if you need to exit a building with out being scene by enemy players. Learn where best loot spots are because generally that's where they are headed. Unless your discovered and they know where your at you have the upper hand so take your time and pick the right time to engage. Some times you will come across heavily armed groups and you may only be able to kill one and quickly leave the area and preposition your self and wait and stalk them again unless they have your location and know where you are you have the upper hand. If they do spot you and come for you stay close to buildings. Knowing your surroundings can help you escape. Once you escape you can turn around and go back after them. In my opinion this game isn't like most FPS where you have to be the greatest shooter in the world to kill other players even heavily armed players. It's a matter of knowing your surroundings. Knowing what other players want. It's matter of knowing which buildings are best to draw them for an ambush. It's about being tactically smart. Being a great shot helps. Most of the time your going run across single players which are easy to deal with as long as you take your time. Again pick your moment that you feel confident that you can make the kill and not miss. When you see player and you know the area well you can probably figure out where they are headed and move head and set up a prime kill position. Be smart, know your surroundings, and take your time. That is best advice I can give. I have learn this stuff over the last few weeks. I was going to quiet because I was frustrated but now I learned and got smart. I haven't died in a week and now really well armed. I have taken down entire groups of players before by knowing my surroundings, taking my time, and just being smart.
  2. Let me be blunt I want to like DayZ standalone I really do but at the current state of the game it blows. I bought many games over the years that I didn't like but this game I finally threw my hands in air and gave up on. This game is by far one the most poorly designed games. Here just a list of problems I have had. The loot in this game is the biggest issue you. There times when I have no problem find loot and other times where there is absolutely nothing. What's worse is you can't sneak around zombies and finding weapons at times is damn near impossible. Then don't get me started on the Please wait loading screen. Let me just say this if your think about buying this game don't. Get DayZ Mod because DayZ Standalone is not worth buying. To the devlopers you guys should be patching this game almost daily if not once a week. Your taking money from costumers and giving them a piss poor game in return. I realize this is work in progress but you actually have to show you are making some sort of progress. Thus far I have seen no progress in the month that I been playing.
  3. For me it was never about killing Zombies per say. What made DayZ mod so much fun is the trying to get around them with out alerting them. For me that was half the thrill of the game. Just going across the street that was occupied by a deal of zombies took time. It meant that you had to think about where to go and to time it as to not alert the zombies. When you where in cities you had the added pressure of knowing that a sniper could totally spot you at any given moment and kill you. So you had to sneak past the zombies as fast as you could with out alerting them to your presence. That to me was a large part of the thrill of the game which is totally missing. I hope they do fix it and bring back that element of game play. The one thing I'd like to see them do is have the Zombies an effect on PVP. One biggest grips with DayZ mod was that players that armed to the teeth had no fear of the walking dead. They could sit in the middle of city and snipe unarmed players with little to no consequences. I always felt there should be consequence to your actions in DayZ. If you fire a round off in the City this should alert every Zombie go nuts and go straight to the location where the shot was fired. If the sniper is on the roof he should have seconds to clear out before all the zombies surround the building and converge on him. Even being armed to the teeth that player will have to deal being over run by Zombies. I for one don't think ammo should be so easy to come by. I've seen videos and have come across players that are so well armed that they could start World War 3. I believe ammo should be super rare. So that when you do find it your first thought isn't to go and kill some noob just because you can. It should be to constantly evaluate your situation and decided is the need to kill that new player with nothing on him worth wasted resource that you might need to defend your self from another armed player or Zombies. Any way sorry to drone on that is just my personal opinion. I'm going to go back to 7 Days to Die for time being. I will come back to DayZ around summer time and see how the game has progressed. Right most of the thrill in the game is non existing.

    Starting Over

Yea I'm done. I had a good start and lost it and to loose all that progress just not worth it. I wish I had never bought the game. It doesn't help that Zombies blow and aggro from a mile a way. I have yet to actually meet a play that didn't kill me. It just a lot of me dying and having to start over again. It not fun at all I can go play 7 days to die and fare far better and have way more fun.

    Starting Over

Honestly it would take forever to find where my character might be there just to many servers. Honestly I think I'm going to give up on this game. I should never bought it. I'm not going to sit here and try and figure out what servers share what there to many servers for that. I spent 6 hours to day finding stuff and making my way inland to airfields only to loose it all. I can't even begin to tell you how deeply frustrating that is. At the moment I have no idea what servers save share info. Basically you guys need to come up with a better system to allow players to find servers that will have characters saved and shared with other servers. Cause this starting over again and again is rather annoying.

    Starting Over

So I played DayZ mod a few years back. I decided to give the standalone a try. For the most part I like what they have done. There is one thing though that I think will make me stop playing and it is really annoying. Generally I try and stay on public servers this way when I leave I can pick up right where I leave off. It also allows me to play on less populated servers for time being with out having to worry about being ganked by other players. Now this was working fine till I left to do something in my normal life and came back to play only when I jumped back in I'm basically right back to starting over. Now if I die because of Zombies or other players fine no problem. However when I just suddenly have to start all over again that is annoying. I some times will spend hours working my way inland trying to get to Airfields or areas where I can find better weapons. It takes me hours to get a bag and supplies going. Then to suddenly loose it all for no real reason sucks beyond imagination. I don't find starting over time and time again because my character info is lost in to winds to be very fun. As I said if I spend hours gathering resource and working my way inland and I die to player or zombie and thus have to start over fine its reap of natural world. Starting over for no reason at all is beyond frustrating and complete waste of time.
