Shouldn't have bought a game when it's steam page explicitly states that it's alpha and to expect this kind of thing if you're not willing to get over it.Honestly, I think you're exaggerating. I know a few people who have been getting reset on the latest patch, though it's never happened to me. I very much doubt that it's happening as often as you are making it out to. It might be worth looking for servers with the lowest ping and checking your desync regularly. If it gets real high, disconnect and go to another low ping server. You also need to remember that different servers may have different hives. Each private server has its own character. First person only public servers give you a different character to first/third person ones. Finally, if you're regularly logging in and out of different servers, there's a good chance that that's causing the wipe. If your character isn't updated on the hive before you connect to another server, you'll lose it. Wait before connecting to another server. If you server hop, just stop. It ruins the game for you, puts you at an unfair advantage and increases the chance of your character being wiped. Outside of that, come back in a month or two. It'll probably be fixed by then. If it's an issue with you having used private servers, just check your history or add one to your favourites and start from there and keep your character until it's wiped for an update. Happens every now and then, but it's exciting as it means new features are there to explore.

Confirmed to be being worked on already. Look on over the roadmap; this year is the year of the zombie in DayZ. :P

So, I'm posting this here as I've absolutely no clue whether this is a bug, which, if it was, I'd report it to the bug tracker, or whether it is what is intended... But over the last two days, I've had my jackets ruined three times. Each time, all it took was a single hit from a zombie. The first was a Gorka military jacket, yesterday. I think it was spring camo. This was in worn status. Luckily, all of the ammo in there remained undamaged - and the bag of rice, which was badly damaged, didn't change either. The second was a Riders Jacket today. Again, a single hit from a zombie brought it from worn to ruined. The sawnoff shotgun I had in there went from pristine to ruined too. Ammo inside that survived. The last was my new Gorka military jacket, which, by some miracle, I found pristine in one of the tin sheds about 40 seconds after ruining my jacket. I then found another shotgun, which I decided to keep on my back. Even once I've sawn it off, I think it'll stay in my backpack or on my back from now on. My rice is now ruined too and some of the other stuff in there took damage also. But the issue is that, assuming this isn't a bug, it's incredibly unrealistic - and can't really be justified by 'improving gameplay' either. First, the stuff inside of the jacket, generally, shouldn't be reduced to ruined. The point of the jacket is to protect that stuff. I get something like a bag of rice, which is made of paper, being torn. However, ammunition and shotguns should absolutely be able to take hits from an unarmed human (or zombie, which still has the strength of a human), especially if inside protective clothing. I'll take issue with the Riders Jacket first, which appears to be made of leather. I live in the UK and am sixteen, which forces me to choose between either a moped or nothing. As such, I ride a moped. I have a cheap biker jacket which is made of some synthetic material. This is considered inferior to leather for protective purposes. About a month after I got my moped, so around 8 months ago, I came off of it. I was going in to a roundabout and there was some weird sludge on the road presumably dropped by one of the many industrial or farm trucks that drive down this road. I slid along the road with my moped on top of me for about ten meters. It hurt. My cheap jacket got a little frayed down its side, but it still works perfectly. My iPhone in the pocket that was against the floor was even completely untouched. If my poor quality motorcycle jacket can hold up to that and still be completely usable, a leather one should be able to take a fair few hits before being even cosmetically damaged, frankly. My jacket still looks fine after cutting off the frayed strings poking out. Now, I can't speak for the military jacket. I've never had any experience with one. However, I'd assume that they're designed to be incredibly durable and should have similar, if not better, durability to a leather motorcycle jacket. The items inside especially should be well protected. So, if this is an actual bug, I'm fine with it. I'll happily wait to get it fixed and not complain in the meantime. But if this is something that is simply to do with settings, I really, really feel that it needs to be changed quite a lot. I'm not complaining about my gear getting ruined; I'm used to losing it all together. But it's frustrating when you have to run for half an hour to a military base, hoping that nobody else is there, to possibly be able to replace gear that shouldn't be damaged at all, then, assuming you survive, run back to where you usually stay. I know that this is an alpha and I can't expect it to be perfectly balanced, but I know that it's not a difficult thing to fix (I'm doing computer sciences in college which includes coding for web, games and software as well as having been playing with various languages and game engines since around the age of eight or nine after I did a two-day course for fun at a secondary school's weekend openings). It's generally just changing an items configuration. Again though, if it is a bug, that's fine. So, has anybody else had something like this happen to them and does anybody know if this is config related or bug related. Finally, could anybody speak to the durability of military jackets irl? I don't really know how strong those should be and am just making presumptions as far as they go.

Oh. I guess I shouldn't assume things in DayZ. Interesting. I never really have low fps as I tend to stick to small towns and the woods - and I very rarely have any notable desync either, so it's not that for me at least. My vest has always stayed pristine, just the jacket gets ruined instantly. Guess it's a bug then?

Improvised ashwood bow/arrows are great.

The issue with this argument is that the game isn't supposed to have any 'hard skills'. While it's a survival simulator, Rocket constantly talked about 'authenticity' over 'realism'. You need to balance gameplay and realism carefully to not make the game straight up unbearable to play. While I agree that the grouping is OTT, it'll almost definitely be changed & balanced over time. The issue is though, there should be a way to craft good bows as well - and differentiating between the two crafting processes is a difficult task. As it's not a major focus at the moment, it's fair enough to have this bow as a palceholder. It's not all that powerful and you're unlikely to get slain out in PVP by an improvised bow unless you're caught off guard at medium-close range - and in that case, you can be killed by almost anything. It's more of a tool for survival in being useful for hunting. There's almost no doubt that they'll add wind and rain effects to not just bows but all projectiles in the future. But it's not worth complaining about now as there are still much larger, more pressing features and issues for the devs to work on. -
Pretty proud of this considering it's on a private, persistent server. Character's only a few days old, too. I have too much time when I'm not at college. Sorry for the dodgy editing. Threw it together quickly as possible & did not want to reveal my stash spot. :P Oh, pair of pants in each jacket, too. Clothes getting ruined all the time from single hits and stuff, jackets especially. Two Gorka & one TTSKO, any way. None of my clothing or weaponry is below worn condition, other than my fireaxes, which I have to keep at a sickening damaged. Now to replace every backpack with leather ones, all in time for the wipe of course.

I understand a wipe on release, but I still don't think that there's any necessity for wipes assuming that there's no major issues with loot spawns exploding & duping getting fixed. If duping is completely patched, DayZ its self tends to take care of wiping characters. Persistence wipes will probably need to happen a few more times, but character wipes, imo, won't really be necessary once duping is done. Though, again, I'm not saying that I'll be upset or angry if they continue to happen moderately regularly. I'm a lone wolf survivor who spends a lot of his time in the woods and, as such, I generally lose my characters through glitches and wipes - and it does start to get a little boring being fully geared after a while. I just don't see any valid reason to wipe characters after a point.

Here's a test group at 116 meters aiming at nothing: Beautiful. Straight up went and made myself a bow & 10 arrows instantly after seeing that last post of yours, despite having an SKS, AKM, Derringer and Sawed-off Shotgun all reasonably stocked with ammo. I think I might be using my new bow from here on out. :P I feel like (though I hate to say it) the arrow crafting system may be a little broken atm though. As it is, you essentially have infinite access to arrows if you search chicken coops & the ground for the sticks. Think they should make the coops more like normal loot locations where a small stack of feathers spawns right in the doorway. I dunno though, maybe they should be hella easy to craft. They are just sharpened sticks after all. -
Can't remember quite where, but I saw something about an item ID system coming very soon to prevent duping. Assume it'll be the next patch when they wipe?
-
Never thought about it before, but damn that's ridiculous.

Couldn't agree with you more, I find it difficult to actually pinpoint something I really dislike that I don't think will be fixed in due time. If I were to say what I want to be fixed first though, it'd probably be the loot system. Once there's no duping, good respawning of loot and perfect persistence along with balancing and the likes, we can put the resets behind us. We'll no longer have to worry about every single person being geared to the teeth with top-grade military gear. There'll be more of a challenge and variety in just surviving. I also dislike the clothing system as it is, though, again, I'm sure that that's going to change. I, personally, really want to see layering and a balance between civilian and military gear (like trading off space for protection, bulletproof vests underneath shirts etc). Plus the cosmetics could be awesome. The one item that I really, really want is a poncho - and I don't even know why. I can think of reasons it'd help gameplay, but those are afterthoughts. :P Maybe not something that should be a priority, but I'm dying to see it done. I think that'd be a better way to phrase the thread: What's a feature that you can't wait to be changed.

Assuming they get the anti-duping in along with some much needed loot fixes (including proper implementation of the CLE - don't think it's actually running yet, just in), I'll welcome a global wipe even though I've spent the last few days building up a beautiful stockpile. But honestly, unless they really think that they won't have to do another wipe, I'd rather they didn't. There's nothing absolutely game breaking at the moment, to my knowledge. There are dupers and the likes, but I've never actually been affected by that (to my knowledge - I may have been killed by one, but if it wasn't a duper, it'd be a legit player). When I say 'unless they think they won't have to do it again', don't get me wrong. I'm not saying 'they should never reset again'. But there's no point in a global wipe unless they actually think that it's going to work properly from there on out. Previous ones were fair enough due to the rampant issues that were actually fixed, but I really don't think it's that bad at the moment.

Agree with almost all of these, except for the ones that involve human npc's. Just not fitting with the style of the game. Would be cool to have certain areas that have really good loot to be absolutely packed with Zombies, though. Military tent areas and bases should be full of them. People would flock there in a zombie apocalypse situation, making them incredibly dangerous to loot. I especially agree with the 'lots of civilian guns, very few military ones'. Would be the first guns people tried to get their hands on and would go missing very quickly. Not sure the gunpowder guns would make much sense with more common civ guns though. I also have an issue with your ideas that include surgical procedures, etc, which kind of kill off lone wolf gameplay. Would be awesome, but just not practical considering.

And here I am on a private, mid pop server, constantly running NW heli routes & checking every truck spawn in the area. Found one looted Heli 30 mins after a server restart with two others on the server (was very early morning) and not a single truck. In fact, I've only seen one 20% gas canister which I accidentally emptied on stashing. :P

Nope, Zombies in DayZ are 'infected'. They're like Zombies in films like 28 weeks later, hence their running and ability to be killed by normal means. On topic, I'm not entirely sure, but I have hurt my arms while punching zombies at least. Not ever actually punched a player. Might be that the zombies hit my arm, but never had it happen with a weapon. Either way, this should definitely be implemented/vastly improved on.

Layers would, like people have already mentioned, add a lot to this game. First, there's the warming ability. Sure, wearing certain clothes types do play a large role in keeping warm, but if I have a shirt, hoodie, jacket and assault vest on, I'm going to be warmer than if I just have a jacket and assault vest on. Then there's the storage. This would need to be limited, as in only the top two layers could be accessed. Seems reasonable to me. Then there's damage reduction. First, the outer layer should take the brunt of the 'ruining' damage. This is useful to protect your items as you could place the toughest item you can find on the top layer to prevent your items being damaged, while your damage and chance of bleeding are reduced within reason. I'd say something like O+I/3, where O is your outermost layer and I is all of your other layers combined. I say /3 because a lot of the damage is blunt force that's not going to be prevented by having a couple extra layers. Blood loss could be something like O+I/1.5. As you can still bleed from blunt force injuries. I'd love to see an internal bleeding mechanic for serious wounds, but that'd kind of kill the game on a level for lone wolves - you're not going to be able to stop internal bleeding yourself. Bear in mind that all of the bladed weapons would need to have their bleed chance upped as they're going to break through most things. Then there's the fact that it could change the way, to some extent, that people interact with each other. Personally, if I see somebody who has really high level gear on them, I'm far more likely to avoid (or attack first) than if I see somebody dressed in civilian clothing. If somebodies well geared, it subconsciously and consciously makes most people more weary of them. The ability to wear layers over certain items of clothing would be great as you'd have the choice to go for intimidation - showing every high loot item you can, or try to ease people who see you by having something covering your more high level gear. This could be useful if you want to make yourself less of a target, less of a threat so that you can help other friendlies, or even to draw people in so that you can kill them. Finally, there's the cosmetic. I don't know about you, but it's not fun seeing a large portion of the DayZ population wearing almost exactly the same thing. A layering system could balance out the gear a bit somewhat, adding more storage space to civilian gear, and encourage people to have some variety. That adds to the 'authenticity' of the game, which is something that Rocket seemed to like a lot. The way I'd propose clothing, when finished, would be as such: - Current Shoes - Thigh holster available on each leg - can carry any single item the same size as or smaller than a sawnoff. - 2 layers on trousers. You can access the storage for both (in the winter I wear trackies under jeans, use both sets of pockets) unless you have a belt on. - 1 belt layer, items such as 'fanny packs' and tactical belts can go here. Could even just have a rope and some space that you can tie certain items to it with rope. - 4 Torso layers - Shirt/bulletproof vest (like the one removed from the game - no storage), jumper, jacket and vest. The vest includes items like the press vest, high cap vest or the holster. You can wear two chest holsters, one across either side of your body. - 1 Shoulder layer - Football pads, capes, cloaks, ponchos and drapes. This can be used to cover your chest and, on some of the longer items, the top half of your legs. Football pads offer extra protection against melee if you don't want to do this. Could have a Ghillie cape for camo when laying down. Possibly have a trench coat available in this slot. - Current Face/Head, though hoods over everything other than helmets would be nice. Legs only display the top layer, chest displays the top with the one below underneath (possibly a flat texture to avoid clipping issues). Shoulders are rendered on top of all of this.

That bugs the shit out of me. Was so happy when they called them Zed's and Zombies in State of Decay. So small and stupid, but so satisfying for me.

Actually, looking at benchmarks, only the higher end Intel consumer chips are better than the FX 8350. You can get a 8350 for about £110 here in the UK. Most of the good Intel chips cost a hell of a lot more. Nvidia vs AMD isn't a question. Looking at cards that cost similar amounts, AMD beat the shit out of Nvidia. Don't get me wrong, if I had the money, I'd buy the best Intel processor and the best Nvidia card. They both offer superior products... Just at ridiculously increased prices. Though, then again, I might actually consider keeping AMD and just getting the FX 9590 with a beast watercooling system. Would cost similar to an average cooling system and the top Intel CPU. I'd then proceed to nuke the shit out of it with overclocks and beat any Intel CPU. The issue with benchmarks for AMD vs Intel is it's always stock. I've never seen a friends AMD computer which I couldn't clock to at least .5 GHZ more than it runs at stock. I managed to push a friends 8350 to 5.5ghz. Dropped it down to 5.3 for 24/7 though. Might have been able to go higher, but he was reluctant to push the voltage any more. The main reason I dislike Intel is the fact that they push new sockets all the damn time. It's like what Apple do and it's plain shitty.

Are ladders/stairs supposed to be the most dangerous thing in the game?
Beizs replied to xhiril's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, not had this happen since very early days in the SA. Be more careful. In the last week, I've looted fire stations maybe fifteen times. The only time I've had a fracture is when I got stuck sprinting and ran off of the edge of the platform in those high loot barns. I do get an injured leg moderately regularly from fighting zombies, though I never know quite what that is. Needs a splint or morphine to heal it, but doesn't have any status effects. :/ Genuinely not had a breakage since maybe March or April. -
Imagine standing there, your back to the wall, desperately capping zombies as they sprint at you. Of course, one hits you and you're forced to run so that you can bandage yourself. But you're not fast enough. As you sprint, your screen begins to dim. There's no way out. All it takes to escape is one single bullet... Man, I really, really hope that DayZ ends up having real high zombie counts. I'd like to see their health reduced dramatically if this happens, though.

I've never found a note. Always get super excited when I see loose paper. :/ I want to start keeping a diary or something, as detailed and roleplay-ey as I can. My hope is that if somebody kills me on sight and reads it, it'll make them feel guilty. I feel bad whenever I kill somebody with good loot, even though I only kill when attacked. Just the number of hours they might well have spent collecting that (bearing in mind I play on a private, persistent server).
-
Yeah, I've started doing that. I play on a private, mid-high pop, persistence enabled server though, so it's not easy to replace military grade gear or even just uncommon items. It took almost two days just to find the first shotgun, searching Toplo, Sinistok, Vavilovo, Lopatino, Vybor and most of the barns in between. Hope that I just got super unlucky if my shotgun gets ruined again. It's terrible, but I love it. :P I like to stick to the north west as I have my loot stash there & running to places I've not looted for everything useful can be a real bitch. Loot's still not respawning particularly well. I just think that it'd make more sense to set the durability high than incredibly low until it can be perfectly balanced. Especially considering the fact that I was wearing an assault vest the entire time which has never changed from worn. Maybe that's something that I should add as a suggestion, though I'm sure they're probably already planning on doing it, but vests should block damage to jackets. The only place you could actually reach are the sleeves, which make little sense to 'ruin' it. Was not aware that items could absorb damage though... Very cool information.

That's the point. I'm sure the meme was a joke, but whatever. What they did was so freaking lucky that it could almost be considered doing the impossible. Props, OP.

Might be solar powered..? :P Eh, I get what you're saying though. Manual ringing would be awesome still.

Can confirm with backpacks at least, which are meant to be persistent like tents, that they get wiped on the maintenance (at least sometimes). Was on a private shard, had a couple backpacks stashed. I had three protector cases in there along with a tonne of food etc. Went down for a cigarette, planning on grabbing the cases before the reset just in case (ahahaha - terrible pun). Got back three minutes before the maintenance was scheduled, server was gone. I lost some lovely stuff that day. I know 99% that it wasn't taken because I'd hidden them incredibly well in a very low traffic area (but not somewhere that people would be hunting) and had been the only one on the server at that time in the early morning. You'd have to literally be searching every possible place to find them - they were completely hidden from every angle and would have to be tabbed to be found (can I just say that I love the fact you can't lie down on slopes?).
