Last night was mostly booring. There was a "find the admin" event going on in the private server, and it was raining like hell, so the city streets where empty. I finaly left svetlojarsk and was able to pick up a Gorka jacket along the way, so i could run freely in the rain. I met up with my buddy and headed over to Berezino. We stopped at Rify boat along the way. As we where checking out the boat, saw a fresh spawn come running trough the rain and in to the ship. We waited for him on the deck. He asked for our help nicely, so i gave him my spare hunter pants and raincoat, some peaches, a can opener and some matches. He was thankfull, and we left him at the boat. Afterwards i felt kinda guilty that we didnt let him tag along. I could have spared him some trouble and get a fire going for him or something... Anyway, Berezino was devoid of all life. Did a basic loot run, headed over to the sniperloot building, got attacked by a 8 or 9 zombies at the same time ( so much more fun than chopping down one Infected at a time). Logged my public character, because my buddy had to go. I did a military run to search for a PSO-1 scope, but found only trouble. I managed to survive tho...

Imho this is untrue. This is hardly the most effective route for new players at all. On high population servers, as a new player, you are verry likely to die before you leave cherno/elektro. Not only are these heavy PvP area's, these are also common spawn areas meaning there are a lot more players here competing for the same loot which means less loot for you. If you somehow end up on more or less friendly server, you might luck your way trough a few times depending on how you behave yourself. Which brings us to the next hurdle : Balota In my experience : even on low population servers with only 3 - 10 people on, there is usually at least one person lurking around this area. And he is most likely to kill you on sight, rather than let you compete for military loot. Unexperienced as you are, he WILL spot you before you spot him. Unlike you, who has just magically survived an emptied out Cherno/elektro, he will have good weapon and kill you. Forcing you to respawn somewhere in the sticks, and ending this "run" immediatly. I have spent many hours doing the "military run" from Kamenka up to NWE and back down again. Other than Kamenka, you are likely to run into people at every other possible military location. I usually make contact as soon as Zeleno or Green Mountain, but the real killer is surely Vybor, where you are most likely to get your head blown off. Im not even gonna talk about NWE and surrounding areas... I did this run many times as a new player, and its verry frustrating to run around for hours, find a nice gun, exit the barracks and get instakilled. In the end, you learn stuff, and you learn to sneak and be stealthy, learn to spot people before they spot you, and in the end you willl have your AK + magazine and military attire. Then you get careless and some fresh spawn ruins your clothings, and you can start all over again...or you get greedy and decide your gun looks cooler with a different handguard or scope, and you can start all over again... You can learn the same skillset sneaking around normal villages or cities. Just remember that people can be found everywhere. And if you treat every situation the same, you will also be able to do it right when it matters most. On my private characters i dont bother with military bases anymore. Gorka and TTsKO gear can be found in red barns all over the country side, or near UAZ wrecks all over the place. Same for assault vests and hunting backpacks and balistic helmets. You can find press vests in hospitals. And you can find a gun and some ammo in nearly every single village on the map. Everybody needs to drink/eat/build fires...so everybody lets their guard down at some point. If you ca surprise your enemy, you can do just fine with a homemade bow. And i find stealth and smart movement works better than any gun as self defense. So why go to the areas where everybody who already has an assault rifle goes to look for more scopes/mags and other goodies... Just my 2 cents

Get rid of inventory "tetris", its busy work and limiting.
nillie replied to franzuu's topic in Suggestions
If it is realism you want, they should have different animation of pulling out guns, depending on where the gun is placed in your inventory. For example : You place a handgun in your trowsers or in a gun holster around your waist (why only chest holster :s). Drawing this weapon will give you an animation where the arm goes to that area of the body and pulls out the weapon. If you place that handgun in your Assault vest or chest holster, the animation should be slightly different, but still quite fast. If you place the handgun in your backpack, the animation should be taking off your pack and grabing the weapon, and it should take a lot longer.... And also (IMHO) : an AKM, AK101 and M4 would all be able fit inside a hunting, tortilla or mountain bacpack, providing the buttstock is removed or folded. Shooting a gun without a stock should obviously increase recoil etc. Also, taking an assault rifle out of you backpack should take longer than a handgun. Offcourse, if this is implemented in the current system, those who hate playing inventory tetris would spend even more time placing stuff in the right slots.. Altough i am not opposed to the current system, i think the system could use some rethinking in general. -
Day 2 on the new private server. I only met friendlies yesterday, but i have a feeling today will be different. Logged in at Svetlojarsk, waiting for my friend to come online so we could head to Berezino and locate some bandits that harrased him the day before. First things first : Im not happy about my whool coat, and i need some new clothes. I immediatly find what i was looking for ! A pristine Biker Jacket !!! One of my favorite civilian outfits. I also pick up a pink baseball cap, just to look a bit more friendly. I also change up the SKS for a Mosin, since i have all the possible attachments and plenty of 7.62 already. Next house has a green raincoat in it, so now i am set! As i leave the house from the back, i see a guy with a Mosin running in the streets. I back off and try to locate him trough my scope from the Southern Hill, but he is nowhere to be found. Suddenly a Z spawns right next to me, and gets a hit on me ! My brand new biker vest is already ruined. Its been a while since a Z pissed me off like that ! Now i need a new coat so i head back into town and enter the small hospital. Suddenly i see the guy staring trough the window. I got careless and caught with my pants down. My Mosin is on my back and i got a pipsi in my hands. But he doesnt shoot ! Instead we make contact, and have a little chat. We proceed to loot side by side, but i lose track of him. I head towards the gas station in the west, when another Z spawns right ontop of me and gets a hit in. Now my raincoat is ruined as wel ! At that moment my friend logs in, and i head towards the easts side of the train station. Suddenly a Mosin shot goes off right next to me. I am beeing way too careless ! I zigzag for cover as more shots rain in. Has my new friend decided to kill me after all? I meet up with my buddy, and we decide to smoke him out. Suddenly, all hell breaks loose. SOmebody actually threw a grenade at me ?! First time i see this. Anyway it missed, and we hear more fire incoming from the train tracks. I decide to head to high ground and cover my friend, as he makes his way towards the target with a magnum. I spot the target, but cant make the shot, and he gets a shot at my buddy as he runs in the open, but misses again. Playing public with the AK 101 has not helped my aim. Then a zombie attacks him. He is completely suprised and slips up ! My friend knocks him out with a magnum shot, and finnishes the job with a hammer. Now we both have Mosins... I dont know why the guy suddenly turned on me. Or where that grenade came from. But it was good fun. I had to log off because i had to go after that. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. First things first : i need some new clothes :)

i am stuck beneath a house, and i cant get out
nillie replied to nillie's topic in New Player Discussion
Sorry, i forget to update this topic. But i sent in a bug report as Boneboys recommended, and 15 minutes later my char was fixed and standing alive and well in Stary Sobor with all of my gear intact, actually not to far from where i got stuck. Nice support, and thanks for the help guys. P.S. : I now always log off outside houses as welll :) -
unbelievable situation, searching 3hours for matchbox!
nillie replied to HeicPy's topic in General Discussion
A while back when me and my friend just started playing, my friend died of blood loss after a zombie attack. I had ran off and lost sight of him, so i couldnt help him. He kept running into houses like a mad man, searching for anything to make rags from, or bandages, or sewing kits...Nothing to be found. He even reached the hopspital in Novo...guess what : nothing there. By the time i reached the hospital he was already dead, and i died right next to him because of an infected wound from a random zombie attack. If this was realistic, there are litterly 100s of things he could have used as a bandage. Drapes, sheets from beds, unlootable t-shirts in piles of rubble... Anyway it was too funny. I had 4 different guns (overkill), full gorka clothing, powdered milks and full canteens....but i couldnt find antibiotics...in a hopsital... Now i always have antiobotics with me and i never get infected wounds. Same with morphine. I always have 2 or 3 morphine auto-injectors with me...and suddenly im not randomly breaking my legs in houses anymore ! I love it tbh... -
Ever since i got an AK101, it seems people on public servers are even more determined to kill me on sight. I got tired of the paranoid feeling of playing with my public character, having to constantly be on guard and spotting everyone before they spot me, so i decided i wanted to change it up and meet some friendly people/ have some fun. So i met up with a friend, and we created new characters on a high pop private server. And wouldnt you know it : I didnt get shot at even once ! I met 3 or 4 other fresh spawns in Cherno. Even tho there was some gun fire going on around town, i didnt witness any hostilities at all. The fresh spawns i came across mostly minded their own business. We exchanged greets and asked if anybody needed anything, but that was it. Too be honest, i was already happy that nobody was trying to bash my head or or put a 7.62 in my back. My friend had spawned in Novo, and at that point the server went down, so we decided to switch to a different one that had better ping. I spawned in Cernaya Polana, while me friend spawned north of Berezino. Se we decided to meet up at Svetlojarsk. Quickly saw another fresh spawn, but he didnt look verry friendly and i decided to leave him alone and head East. I met another fresh spawn near the car graveyard, he was beeing harrased by zombies, so i decided to help him out and put the .375 magnum to use. I dropped some food, he thanked me and ran off in the other direction. So far so good ! I arrived in Svetlojarsk from the railway station. Came across Mosins and MP133's, but decided to leave them be. So far i hadnt seen anyone with weapons, but i want to look as friendly as possible, so i decide to only carry the consealable magnum untill i can make a sawed-off. As i am looting the trains, i can hear chatter comming my way. This is definatly more than one person. I can hear 2 different voices. I hide in the train and hope they havent spotted me. But they have. I panic for a moment as i can see 2 people approaching with weapons in hand. One has a blaze rifle, the other has a .22 sporter. So i quickly take out the Magnum and prepare for the worst. But they both greet me and start talking to me from a distance. Its a male and female voice ! They ask me if i have .22 rounds, and if i need magnum bullets. I have 60 rounds on me which is more than i plan to use, so i thank them for the help. We move side by side into Svetlo, and ran into eachother multiple times, sharing the loots ! Eventually they dissapear out of sight. I remember laughing at how loud they where, especially the woman. She was constantly chatting away without a care in the world. If this was public, they would get creamed instantly ! Anyway, meeting those people was verry nice ! But it did make me reconsider my strategy about not getting a rifle. I still aim to go for the sawed-off, but in the meanwhile, i came across an SKS, a prestine PU scope and a 10 round clip spread out over 2 adjacent buildings. I dont like the SKS, but this was too lucky to pass up. I will try to keep it on my back as much as possible, as the Magnum will do just fine inside cities and villages. Out in the woods and outskirts, it might come in handy tho. My friend arrives in Svetlojarsk, we meet up at the docks and decide to log off for the day. Apparently he hadnt been so lucky in his interactions with other players. He had to kill a fellow a fresh spawn who came at him with an axe, and saw some bandits around Berezino. We will head back south tomorrow..

My current public character. I play lone wolf with this, as i play with friends on private hives... I stick to the magnum as a sidearm, as it works best for me. I generaly use the sawed-off as a backup when im checking houses for loot. It works really well for me so far. I think in this picture i was wearing TTSKO, but i have two sets of full gorka gear now. I prefer the gorka camo. When i am in cities i use a ballistics helmet and i dont cover my face. I am currently having a lot of fun on private servers, but when i get to playing public again, i will try to get my hands on a AK rail handguard and a scope. It will be difficult tho i think. Greets,

Anybody need a .22 amphibia mag? I need AK101 Mag AK 101 rail handguard or PSO scope

Hello, Where can i find the following items on a normal public server : - Magazines or clips for assault rifles - Weapon scopes I have been to every military base, camp and airfield 3 times already over the past couple of days, running up and down the map like a madman. I have found some assault rifles, and i am carrying enough ammunition of all types to start a private war, but i always end up leaving the rifles behind because i cant find clips for them. Its getting very frustrating to loot .22 clips everywhere, but never find a clip for an AK. Also, i cant find any scopes for any weapon. Where can i find these? I have found a long range scope in houses before, but what about scopes for assault rifles etc? Should i try and find crash sites? I havent seen a single one, and it seems like looking for a needle in a haystack on normal public servers... Should i just stop looking for them at military bases and stick with what i have got (SKS unscoped) ? it is after all a huge risk to keep visiting these locations, as i am bound to run into bandits or KoS-ers sooner or later there.

I started this game with the best intentions, as a lot of people do. First 2 people i met spotted me in Elekro when i was exiting a house. I tried communicating with them, but they instantly came at me with axes. Even tough i had a loaded shotgun, i decided to run for it and try to reason with them. I ended up having to shoot one, and getting killed by the other after running around for 15 minutes with those guys chasing me. I tried everything, but nothing helped. I only had the stupid shotgun and 4 or 5 shells, no good clothing, no food, not even an axe... I had read about this happening all the time, but it shocked me none the less. I have also seen movies of people beeing friendly and working together. Even tough i HAVE met a handfull of people who didnt try to kill me (some probably would have, if they had a loaded gun in their hand), there was never ever any sense of working together. Some kind words and good luck wishes where exchanged, but in the end we both sprinted off in different directions, watching over our shoulders. Since that first encounter, i was killed by other players many times. SOmetimes on sight, sometimes after trying to help somebody and getting backstabbed. I still hope to find a private shard somewhere, where i hope to meet friendly people and survive in a group. But with my public characters, i have geared up like a Navy Seal, i have learned to live off the land, and i will shoot on sight if i feel you will pose a treath to me. And if i dont shoot you, you will probably never know i was there, and you will never see me again... Eventually i will get killed by somebody else who spots me before i spot them, and i will have deserved that faith. Its all good...Its the way the game is right now. After u understand the basics, surviving is easy. There are loads and loads of guns laying around, and nothing much to do but get more guns or kill people. As the game evolves, so will the interactions between the people who play it. I hope there will come a time when you will NEED to work together to survive. I especially like the idea of fending off hordes of superstrongzombies with a group of people.

Here is what i do if i spawn near the South East coast : 1. Get an axe (best weapon to kill zombies, can chop wood for fires incase u get wet, can open up canned food ). 2. Get rags by tearing up shirts or hoodies (u can use them for bandages, or to make fire) 3. Get matches to light a fire incase you are wet and cold. Spawning in the rain makes everything twice as hard 4. Eat and drink everything i find instantly untill i cant find no more in the immediate area. Hopefully by now my health status says "hydrated" and "energized" in bright green. If there is no message, just keep eating and drinking untill u see it. You can even keep eating untill it says "im stuffed". 5. Gather some warm clothing along the way, prefferably pristine or worn. Then head towards the beach, and follow it untill u find fishing boats. They have raincoats, which you really need if you wanna keep traveling in the rain. 6. Get full prestine clothing and a good dryback or any backpack u like. Preferably in not too bright collors, stash some extra food and some water bottles... Everything you do next is up to you. You can craft or find various hunting tools, or you can go and search the cities for firearms. You can create your own clothes, or go search for military grade equipment and weapons. You can go into the cities and kill or be killed, or you can retreat to the woods, barns and fields and try to survive alone. Some other usefull stuff that you usually find as you are freshly spawned, : - Duck tape : If you find prestine duck tape, grab it. You can use it repair clothing after taking damage - Can opener : Open canned foods without spilling - Bottles of water or cantines. More than one can be verry handy. If you have a raincoat you can fill them up as you travel when it rains, so you always have water. - If you have enough backpack space, you can grab some extra clothing, so you dont have to run around with ruined clothing if it gets damaged : this is lethal ! - Medical supplies like antibiotics, painkillers, morphine injections, cleaning alcohol. Helps incase you break something or get infected wounds.... - Map of Chernarus : So you can see how many people are online (should this interest you). Apparently you can use P key also, but the map shows the area as well if you dont have access to the official map on a different screen or alt tab. Anyway, the ingame maps are pretty much useless so better leave this one out. - PRESTINE compass : helps you navigate untill you know your way around. - Kitchen knife : You always need a good knife to cut things up, skin animals, stab things :). Best way to learn what you should take with you or not, is by dying from things...many times... Good learning curve. Good luck.

Identifying where you are is verry important. Once you know where you are, you can use the official Standalone DayZ map (google it, its verry usefull) to find out what kind of items could be spawning close to you, where there is military loot, where you can find agricultural gear, where there are drinking wells or ponds etc etc. Its real easy to find out where you are using this map. It requires some alt-tabbing so always make sure you are standing in a safe and secure place when checking out the map, and that here are absolutely no zombies or players in your area. http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus All you have to do at first, is to find a road or railway. It doesnt really matter which direction you follow it, you will usually end up in a city either way. Near the edge of most cities or villages there are town name signs, spelling the name in russian. You can also find out the name of the city if there is a train station. It is spelled on the roof of the trainstation. Please note that names will be in russian. You can use the following list to figure out what is the english name of the town you are in : http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Towns_and_Cities Then click on it to see where it lies on the map. It will usually say North-East or something like that, so you know where to look on the map. Once you have figured out where you are, you can identify roads, buildings and landmarks. A pristine compass may help you to identify north and south, and than you should be able to navigate your way to other towns and cities in the area, building up a mental map along the way. After running around Chernarus for a while, using a the standalone map and compass, you will memorize a lot of areas. And in the end, you wont even need to use a map and a compass, and you can navigate using your instinct and the position of the sun... Note that navigation is something that comes naturally to some, while others just cant seem to get the hang of it. This method is how i learned to navigate and it worked verry well for me. May not be good for you. Having played games like the ArmA series or operation flashpoint is also handy, so you know how to run with a character without slowly going off course, and end up in the wrong spot. If you want to find out more about how tents work and how persistance works, click on my name and see my topics. A asked a similar question a while ago, and got some nice answers in my topic. Im sure it will help you as well. You can craft a knife from stones :http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Improvised_Knife But pristine machetes and kitchen knives are pretty common in residential areas, i usually prefer to just pick up a pristine kitchen knife. Skinning and quartering animals, like some other actions, is currently bugged apparently. Some have no problems with it, but for me the action is always bugged so i cant farm meat at the moment, and thus i cant coock it either. But if you can get meat, you should be able to add it to a fire with stones to coock it over the fire. The pot works with either a gas stove, or a coocking tripod over a fire, and both dont seem to work verry well at the moment, so i woudlnt drag one around for now. Just try and coock in fire. You can find guides for crafting, trapping, coocking etc. everywhere, just use google search ! And yes, everybody seems to Kill on Sight. And now you will do it yourself, and the circle is complete. I usually try to avoid getting into conflicts all together, so if i spot a lonely player without a firearm, i will just let him be and move off. If you are holding a gun and get too close, you are going down. The trick is to get a group of people you can trust. Bandits and lone wolfs are less likely to engage or be hostile against a group of people, and they will usually back off or try to just talk without shooting. Even if one of your group gets killed, the rest of the guys can help you start over again... So ask some friends to join the game with you, and find some servers you like playing on. Good luck, from a fellow new player.

One thing i would like to add : Before leaving the coast for safer inland havens, make sure to get a raincoat or two ! They keep you from getting damped/wet and as a result, they keep you from dying of hypothermia. In theory, you can always dry yourself up and get warm near a fire, but this takes time and people can see them from some distance, giving away your position. Also, fires dont work when its raining, so sometimes you will need to build one inside a hangar or a deer stand somewhere, which can mean leaving the safety of the woods ! They seem to be buggy inside regular houses as well. You can find raincoats as regular loot in houses or cars, but they are most common on stranded boats a long the coastline. One big question tho : Is skinning and coocking actually working tho in 0.52. ? How long does it take to skin an animal? I have tried it mutiple times with pristine gear, and it seems to go on forever...it looks like the action is bugged, and i never get meat or skins in return. I have also never seen steaks or skins as loot on other players. Also, does the cooking pot-gas stove combo work? I know for a fact that the cooking tripod does nothing. Makes it pretty hard to stay out fo towns atm if you ask me. Is fishing in ponds working correctly? Problem with ponds or the sea, is that they are often close to cities and therefor close to danger. So far i have been playing what seems to be the default playing style : Gearing up like rambo, or getting killed trying. But i would much rather live off the land and survive with cooking and hunting. I just cant seem to get it work tho :S

Some tips on finding magazines and crash sites.
nillie replied to nillie's topic in New Player Discussion
Just for some closure on this topic, in case anybody searches it. At the time of posting this, we are playing 0.52 public persistent. 6 days and 2 characters after creating this topic (i got killed searching for mags at the various military areas, as predicted), i have finaly found an AK 101 mag ! I found the actual AK101 two days earlier in roughly the same location, and had to run around with an SKS in my hand and the AK on my back for two days straight. Verry awkward, as a lot of barracks are crawling with Z's, and its a miracle i didnt lose the SKS by dropping it accidently along the way. Anyway, my hard work and searching finaly paid off. Apparently somebody forget to check under the bunk beds in one of the long barracks at Pavlova. On a side note, I have found AKM magazines the day before at the long barracks at Veresnik base if anyone is interested. In my searches for the illusive AK 101 mag, i also came across some attachements (buttstocks and handguards, unfortunatly no rail handguard or scope) for the various AK's. 90% of those where inside Pavlovo barracks, and i found a folding stock in Zelenogorsk, but left it behind. I have not yet found a non-damaged PU Scope in the afformentionned civilian locations, but there where plenty of long range scopes. So to summarize : it took me about 10 days of running between the different long barracks in the west, with regular stops at the tent sites as well, to find a single AK 101 magazine. Maybe i was unlucky, or maybe this is normal. Just saying : It seems to me they are quite rare ! I On another side note, i found like 8 nettings spread out over 2 boat sites on the southeast coast, and managed to make a full ghillie suit in just 2 hours of searching for burlap sacks ! Thanks all for the great info in this topic. -
Today i killed a human in DayZ for the first time. It sounds a lot more dramatic than it was, but my first murder is a fact. Here is what unfolded : I ran from the northwest to the northeast stopping at every garage, bar and pub to search for a scope for my SKS, finding only damaged ones. I know that one usually spawns in the boat wreck near Rify, so i decided to push out towards there in a final effort to find what i was looking for. Arriving there from the northeast coastline, i could instantly tell some things went wrong there. Its a common spawn and loot area so always prepare for trouble. I can see two bodies lying on the ground in front of the hull of the ship. I take a moment to scan the area with a longhorn, and move in closer when i see no further movement. The first body is looted completely, with no items left on the player. The second body is still geared, so i move on for a closer look. I then realize, this isn't a body at all. The guy is still alive and just laying on his belly, trying to play a trick on me perhaps. I have learned to keep my rifle handy at all times, but i decide not to aim at him as his shotgun is still on his back. I keep a distance and try to make contact. But he says nothing and sits up. Again, no reply. Finally, his hands go in the air and i begin to relax. I ask him if he can hear me, and if he has been inside the shipwreck...he finally breaks the silence..."Kill me..." I ask him to repeat his words, as i am not sure if i heard him correctly. "Kill me, i am dying"...he says again. For a moment, i hesitate...why would i kill him? I am not a bandit, i am friendly ! I have bandages, morphine and antibiotics. I could help this guy and he could live. But then i realize what actually happened. This guy came across the other guy and obviously tried to kill him for his stuff. One guy got killed, the other guy seriously injured. He had looted his victim, but he didn't get very far and now he was dying a slow and agonizing death. I also realize my character is getting hungry and thirsty, and that i should leave here ASAP instead of risking my own life! I ask him one more time just to be sure, and he asks me again to kill him. So i put a single 7x62 mm round in his forehead and release him from his misery. Good riddance comes to mind... There was no scope in the shipwreck, only a weapon flashlight. As i leave the shipwreck behind i wonder about what could have happened if i got there earlier... I survive my 7th day in Chernarus, and head inland again to meet up with my friend. It will be nice to interact with a friendly human that i can trust, after 2 days of solitude and caution.

Some tips on finding magazines and crash sites.
nillie replied to nillie's topic in New Player Discussion
Thanks for this information. Now i know i should not be wasting my time searching for a dangerous needle in a haystack, as i already assumed. I have been trying to just get a scope for my SKS, searching pubs and garage boxes as you guys pointed out. I have found multiple LRS scopes, but so far only 1 PU which was damaged :(. But i will keep searching thanks to you guys ! One more question, or rather a statement. I dont know if this is true or false, so please correct me if i am wrong. I see a lot of people running around on my last few servers, who have got some verry good and rare items like drum magazines, press vests, fully custom AK's and mp5s etc. Also a lot of ghillie suits, which seem to be pretty rare given the reduced spawns of netting. Are these players server hopping all the time to get those items? Or is it safe to say that they come from a public clan server where the admin may have helped them by spawning some good loot? I have been to servers where there are messages saying that the admin spawns items in certain locations. Is this only for private shards or does this happen on public clan servers as well? That doesnt really seem fair to me :( . Or maybe these guys are just lucky to get that gear, or kill people who had the gear before them? I cant seem to connect to most clan servers as i get insta kicked. Thanks again for your replies guys ! -
Hi all ! I am new to DayZ, playing for about 48 hours now. I have some questions about servers etc... It took me a while to find a server where there where not too many people on, trying to kill me on sight, and where i could find enough loot to basically survive. Yesterday, i found such a server with some friendly people on it, daylight time to play, and a good amount of loot. I have finally managed to set up a good character with good supplies and weapons. I don't mind getting killed in game by other players or Z's. Its part of how the game works. However, i am scared to lose this character due to stupid things such as server restarts or disconnects etc. So i have learned to disconnect when i see other people lose connections, as it seems to be a sign that the server will restart soon. In the past, i have disconnected from a server, only to find my character gone and having to start as a fresh spawn, losing all my gear. Sometimes, when i click play, instead of automatically loading my last created character on the server, it takes me to the server selection screen. I have solved this by placing the current server in my favorites, and when i rejoin, my character also seems to have been saved. I am doing the right thing here? It seems to work, as i have been able to successfully reboot this character now for a number of times, without losing anything. I am scared to join my friends on other servers, fearing that i will lose my gear and start as a fresh spawn when i join. Is there anything i should look for when joining other servers? Somebody told me to ONLY use the steam overlay to join friends and to only connect to public servers? Should i only join public servers with persistence on to keep my gear cross server? Which brings me to my other question : The server regularly shows an info message saying something like : "Server resets on Wednesday xx.xx PM. Pack up your tents in time if you don't want to lose anything". Does this mean the server will completely reset on that day/time, and everyone's stuff will get wiped? Or is it only the stuff that is placed in tents? If the server resets completely, will it help to join a different server with persistence, and then rejoin again the old server after the reset so i can maintain my gear? Some answers to these questions would be nice. So far, i have been really attached to some of my characters, losing them in a dumb way. I realize this is alpha and there are constant wipes and also bugs, so i should not get to attached to my inventory, but i still want to do everything i can to keep this character as long as possible! Thanks in advance !

OK thank you for this response ! Just to make sure i understood correctly : So to summarize : I can carry over my character AND inventory to any other public server, provided that server is up and running and not just restarting. I should probably join a server that already has people in it, to make sure that IS in fact running properly. If i want to join a friends game, i can do so via steam overlay, and will also keep my character and inventory, provided my friend is also playing on a public server. I can have 1 public character per steam account. Some additional questions about private servers : What happens when i join a private server? So far this has always reverted me to a fresh spawn. Do i lose my public character+inventory forever, or will my public character and inventory simply re-appear when i connect again to a public server? Thanks again in advance !

Got geared on a new server, got a shotgun and some shells. Then i ran into some guys with axes as i exited a house near Elektro. The came straight for me axes drawn. I told them i was friendly but they kept silent and continue to come for me. So i fired a warning shot in the air. The halted for a moment, but then advanced on me again, strafing...By then it was obvious they wanted my gear, so i ran around for about 5 minutes trying to lose them in the streets, but no use. Some zombies attacked me and i decided to try and make a stand. Killed one guy, but the other chopped me in the face with an axe.... Hope he made good use of the one shotgun shell i had left. All my other stuff was ruined anyway. Re spawned on a new server with only a few people on it. Berezino spawn, geared up and headed north. Get some guns and ammo, and plenty of food & water. Headed north towards Novo in the hopes of meeting up with a friend there. As i exited the police station in Khelm i ran into a guy. I had just dropped a bayonet in order to try and grab another item for use. He said he was friendly, but i backed off anyway keeping a .45 at hand. I accidentally grabbed my axe as i was waving to him, so he got scared. But in the end i convinced him i was also friendly, told him there was a bayonet inside he could have, and wished him good luck. Then i got as far away from there as possible. First human i meet that doesn't instantly tries to kill me. I wonder if he would have still been friendly if i had not been holding that .45, but i will assume this was just a good guy. Made my way to Svetlojarsk and found a guy lying dead in the police station. Probably killed by another human so i decided to play it safe and hide. Will cautiously continue on north towards Novo tomorrow. Ty.
