What can be done about ghosting on public servers?
xhiril replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
At some point the "The game is not mature yet" argument becomes invalid. I tend to stop allowing that argument when the studio accepts my $, but YMMV. -
Sadly lost two pristine ones two days ago. One on the AKM I had and another I had in my inventory I was going to trade someone :( when server went down, came back up, attachments were all gone.

I got beaten up by an invisible zombie the other day in the middle of the street. I lost all my attachments for both AKM and MK5 (No, this is not from just the update, this was yesterday). The game still has a lot of bugginess to it, even the loading and closing screens. There is a lot of good in there though if you are willing to suffer through the unpolished parts though. In a perfect world (for me at least) we would see a patch that is only bug fixes, instead of stuff that is multiple iterations out when existing bugs hit. I realize bug fixing isn't the sexy stuff everyone wants to work on, but it certainly would be a nice gesture to your paying customers who have stuck by you (including additional costs like server hosting, etc). I do notice DayZ twitch numbers are way down since two other recent zombie games hit. FWIW though those games have had their numbers hit as well (and I can't say I am a fan of either of them), and right now if we could get a hack/exploit fix/bug fix patch I'd probably play a ton more.

So I recently was perusing reddit on my lunch hour and was noticing a higher than normal amount of posts RE: hoarders/dupers. I saw a few posts like http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2ww6kz/we_found_the_camp_of_all_camps_unlucky_ggc_swat/ http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2wuvc2/jackpot_near_svetlo/ http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2wx8x6/dupers_are_back_dayz_standalone/ I know hoarding/duping is something most of the playerbase wants to combat. What can we really do though? I actually had the same run-in with the players mentioned in the first link, and after killing 2/3 and running and escaping, I got booted from server for no reason. What can we as players do to combat this behavior? Email devs directly? Report servers? Make youtube videos? Post here? Any help people can offer to combat this stuff is appreciated, I want to do what I can to help stop this crap if I can. It seems like the Bohemia team could benefit from some BI. A report (like Eugene's heat map of deaths) that show military/combat loot, by spot, wouldnt hurt. That way if the developers see one or two servers where a ton of loot is congregating, they could act and do something. Thoughts? Advice? Any info or feedback appreciate as long as it is helpful :)

Are you really that arrogant you have the nerve to say "This is how this game is meant to be played"? Ego much? Last I checked you weren't Dean Hall.
-
I dont know, seems lame to me to grab gear you dont need, just keeps it out of other players hands everywhere on the public node. Just seems like bad sportsmanship to me.
-
no kidding? Thanks, will keep eyes out then. Have my beans.

The only reason I like the amphibia is it's noise. Otherwise I totally agree. But it is great for moving quietly through zed-infested areas.
-
Will trade AK101 mags for Amphibia, MSG me if interested.

Probably the public server owner did not extend the server life when the billing cycle was up. Hard to be surprised, a lot of players are leaving to play similar games that aren't still in alpha.

Funny, I hear that those that assaulted this event got rekt -
I try to stay positive on these forums, but let me offer this: I think you are a hoarding, selfish douche. This is your right though, because the game designers aren't prioritizing preventing this, they are busy doing <something else>. If you want to be a loser who hoards stuff you don't use, which means other players cant enjoy it, by all means. We certainly can't stop you. Also I hope you get AIDS.

They are just being GRUMPY NUMPKINS. Suprisingly, this forum has an FEW of them.
-
Stop what? Asking questions about a game on a game forum? This forum is truly the worst community I have ever encountered regarding game questions. So many of you elitist tools here, my god.
-
As a proud member of the PCMR, let me say to you sir "Quit being a douche".

please, what's sad is you think this is cute rather than a joke on paying customers DayZ may become the first game in history to have it's entire lifespan be between alpha and release

DayZ minimum/recommended Specs and your rig

Just in the outskirts of Svetlo, running through the streets of Novo is a bit risky on the server I was on lol :) Yeah Im with you on the performance stuff. I have the settings optimized via Nvidia, not maxed. Hoping the FPS/higher res textures/etc start to impress towards the end of beta, I certainly am not seeing ideal performance, that's for sure :( -

It's not spam, it's success criteria. Success criteria helps prevent people from getting into arguments with other people over whether or not something is now delivered/demonstrated. This is especially important when it is clear one or more sides have their minds already made up. Maximum settings aren't clearly defined. There is no MAX setting you can just toggle on/off. In fact, if you set DayZ to "Very High" (the highest allowed), that only sets some aspects of the game and in fact torks the view resolution down to a stupidly small area. I did that in the pictures above. Did you notice that part of my post where I said. -

Provide some more specific success criteria? What graphics settings, specifically? Rendering resolution? Texture settings? Do you want a Fraps video or live stream or youtube? What city? What vantage point? What view setting? Server hardware settings? Server host? Current server load? Internet bandwidth of both server/client? You aren't listing specific success criteria, so only an argument can ensue if someone attempts to provide evidence to answer the proverbial gauntlet you've thrown down. I feel like everything I just listed can impact FPS but it's hard to say, I've not done heavy testing with DayZ (Not that I've heavily tested graphics benchmarking on any game, fwiw) In general I will gladly agree DayZ does really poorly at graphics/etc, at this time. That said, I've not played in an alpha or a beta of a game that has done graphics well, this early on. -

Well FPS and refresh rate of the monitor are two different things, but if you have stuff like V-Sync enabled, refresh rate can limit FPS. That said, it's hard to get video like you are describing. Fraps maxes out at 60fps to record, that I've seen, and recording HD video like that with Day-Z run taxes my system, hard. I've used Action! for streaming, but even that has an FPS limit and also taxes the system. Nvidia shadowplay seems kind of dodgy to me, but I'll admit I got frustrated and kind of gave up on it a while back. That said, here is a video of me driving around the north that I had recorded, at night. http://www.twitch.tv/xhiril/b/602680687 Otherwise, here are some pics, Fraps puts the FPS in the upper left, in yellow: Long range scopin' outside town: Same pic as above, without zooming the view: Nighttime at the quarry: -

I run: Intel i7-4960X RoG Rampage IV Black2x GeForce GTX 780 Ti SLI2x BenQ XL2720Z Get 85fps most of the time but 45-60 in the rain in cities. -
You dont have to apologize for playing within the rules of the game in a way that makes you happy. Just be prepared for the hate other players will send your way if they know you server-hopped though.

Anyone else playing as a hoarder currently?

I had a nice pristine military tent and then the persistent server stopped being hosted. FML
