There are a lot of threads these days about KOS and "what was your first kill" but what about the nice things many of us have done. DayZ is a great game despite its ongoing development and has become an environment for a host of interesting events and encounters. Many of these encounters end in the death of at least one player but what about the ones which don't? My question today is what is the nicest thing you have done or seen while playing DayZ?

What new items do you want to see In the near(ish) future?
LORDPrometheus posted a topic in General Discussion
Bug fixes, optimization, performance, etc. all the things the community constantly wants take time and lots of effort to get fully implemented due to their nature. Items on the other hand are a bit more simple. Not saying that creating a balanced new gun is any easier than improving the AI but it does take a smaller group of individuals. New items are constantly being added so looking beyond .54 what do you (the community) want to see being added to the game in terms of new items. Be sure to post your specific recommendations/requests/demands in the comments below! -

Ok this isn't saints row -
(I'm not sure if this should be general discussion or suggestions so can a mod please determine and move me to suggestions if that's the right place. Thank you.) Now the devs have obviously got a huge To-do-list for the upcoming months but priorities constantly shift during the development process of a game. The biggest source of development priority shifts are time constraints the second biggest is user feedback. This thread is for you (the forum community) to decide what should be made a priority for release .54. I'm saying .54 since .53 is essentially finished and just being put through some QC before release. Please don't suggest anything ridiculous like tanks and helicopters since vehicles are complicated and a long term project. Also don't suggest switching engines or removing persistence. Everything on this poll is listed on the 2015 roadmap as a q1 or q2 goal I have no affiliation with the devs but want to see this game go in a positive direction and aligning development priorities with community desires is a good way to ensure sales and success.

DayZ is currently in alpha so optimization isnt exactly a focus and as such isnt a strong suit for the game. This question is not about what the eventual recommended and minimum specs should be but what they are at this point in development. what do you think is the minimum and recommended hardware to run DayZ at normal quality with a steady 30+ FPS in urban centers for example my current rig: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2Ghz W/ Coolermaster air cooler thing Gigabyte Motherboard 8gb 1333Mhz DDR3 corsair RAM 1Tb Seagate Barracuda RadeonHD 6850 1gb graphics windows 7 this system can manage 40FPS on normal in the wilds but struggles to get 30 in even medium size towns therefore it doesn't quite make the cut. my new rig (in progress build) Intel I7 4970k (no OC) W/ Corsair h100i cooler Gigabyte UD5H z97 motherboard 8gb 2400Mhz G Skillz Sniper RAM 128gb San Disk Extreme II SSD MSI Nvidia GTX 970 graphics 1Tb Western Digital Blue Windows 8.1 this new rig is defiantly above the requirements therefore my guess at the Minimum requirements is somtheing like 3rd gen Intel I5 or better/ AMD A10-5800K or better/ AMD FX 4300 or better 4gb of DDR3 ram RadeonHD R7 260x or better/ GTX 560 or better any thoughts/ shameless system bragging?

The single biggest performance improvement for DayZ is gained by installing it on an SSD Dean hall said so himself and I can agree With similar tweaks I can get a blistering... 33fps in downtown cherno (45ish on the outskirts) FPS was determined with Nvida Shadowplay and fraps separately My rig: brand new I built it musket last Wednesday Case: corsair obsidian 450d Motherboard: gigabyte UD5H z97 PSU: 750w EVGA supernova G2 CPU: intel I7 4970k overclocked lightly to 4.3ghz standard 4.7ghz turbo GPU: MSI GTX 970 4gb (factory overclock) CPU cooler: corsair H100i (do not recommend for intel mount it requires lost of washers to fit snugly) load temps don't pass 50c though Case fans: 2x Corsair AF 140 intake front and 1 AF 120 rear exhaust SSD: 120gb Sandisk Extreme II Hdd: 1tb Western digital blue Disc drive: LG 12x blue ray read write OS: windows 8.1 64x OEM I have a 21in LED monitor and run all my games at 1920x 1080 at 60hz It's not a super computer but it cost me $1600 so I'd have hoped for at least this -
Comparing DayZ to similar games.
LORDPrometheus replied to gromlicious's topic in General Discussion
All I can say is run on normal settings with the game on an SSD and lower your expectations. The game is in alpha development so this is to be expected. That being said why not throw us a bone and do something, anything to improve one of the many unoptimized features that is causing lag. What about a team member dedicated to performance? I'm not telling Bohemia how to run their company just asking if its possible. Every update is slowing the system further and further and the biggest issue is buildings. Is there a more efficient way to have the buildings function? And what happened to the improved renderer that was said to be in .53? -
Server restarts are a double edged sword. On one hand it helps fix memory issues and improves performance as well as resetting loot (on non-persistence servers). On the other hand it kicks you from the game sometimes preventing you from rejoining since others fill the slot before you reboot dayZ (because it crashed lol) and can cause character rollbacks or even total loss. So how often should a persistence server be restarted and how often should a non persistence server be restarted? Also what should the policy be in terms of warning by the server before a restart.

physics of objects are totally broken atm - why not just disable it for the time being
LORDPrometheus replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
The economy is in a major recession mr president what should we do?Let's go buy a few islands and create a new national sports league. But sir how would that help fix the problem? Who cares about fixing the problem ignoring it and making it worse is far more fun! -

LORDPrometheus replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
I both agree and disagree with your argument. I agree that they are constantly tweaking the game and that user settings matter significantly but not everyone can afford a $1500+ gaming rig and few games actually require that anyway. The new renderer released with .53 today should help but in the end it will require very extensive optimization that may take several months to fully complete since these guys are a pretty small team. Also how is being a teenager or a 21k in debt college student (8k for me in freshman year already) that persons fault? How is it an individuals fault for not being willing to spend their hard earned drinking money on a new GPU? Admittedly I am finalizing a new rig this week so my argument is altitude mute but still. Not everyone games as a sole form of entertainment. The argument in my initial post if you had bothered to read it would have made it clear that I was saying the current unoptimized architecture will only continue to get bogged down worse over time if new mechanics are added without any thought to making them run efficiently. I did not say the game is unplayable. Just that without some tuning it will be eventually. -

LORDPrometheus replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
They shouldn't wait to the end of development to address performance issues because if they keep adding eventually it will be unplayable. Yes its an alpha I know but they are making a game for us to play and are implementing our feedback constantly. If they want our input then the alpha has to be in a playable state so its important to improve some systems as they go not just save everything for the end. -
Why is such a drastic increase in enterable buildings considered a good thing?
LORDPrometheus replied to BC_Hawke's topic in General Discussion
The expansion of new buildings is beginning to drastically impair performance so I think the current amount of buildings is enough untill rendering improvements are made -

Do you have any information on what kind of renderer improvements we may be looking at? -
To be blunt this is kinda common knowledge. A better idea would be to post the tweaked that worked for you along with your system specs so others can try them.

http://www.dayztv.com/standalone/dayz-2015-roadmap/ Q1 goals clearly states new renderer. Were these statements made before or after this I'm not saying your wrong just asking where you heard this. Also the current DayZ engine is fine it just needs some polish and TLC -
In my experience the sawed off and pump action variants work a lot better than the normal double barrel which is odd and probably down to something bizarre and unexpected

DayZ minimum/recommended Specs and your rig
LORDPrometheus replied to LORDPrometheus's topic in General Discussion
Optimization for most games is the last step in the development process. Basically the devs spend a few weeks-months trimming down intensive processes and improving rendering systems. The end result is better performance with no drop in quality. However if the game is already released in some capacity such as how DayZ is optimization can also be split into several small bits over the course of development. The approach will help keep performance at adequate levels throughout development since each un optimized update strains the existing architecture and makes things slower. In my opinion attaching a renderer upgrade and some memory leak fixes as a small part of the next update is probably wise. Also the enfusion engine isn't exactly the pice of horse **** people are claiming it is. It's simply not running efficiently. The current FPS issues are a result of the ongoing development process and will be addressed in time. This being said there is only so much eye candy and fancy new items you can add before looks matter less than FPS. There is a saying that the architect designs the building the engineer makes it work. The DayZ devs (as dedicated and well meaning as they are) need to stop playing the architect so much and start being engineers. -
