Server hopping, the 60 second countdown, crashes, and game loading
LORDPrometheus posted a topic in General Discussion
This topic is just to get a feel for what the community consensus is on server hopping the 60 second countdown and how it relates to server crashes and game load times The biggest question I am trying to pose is wether or not the obnoxious sixty second countdown to join a server following disconnecting from that server or a different one is A effective at stopping server hoppers, B applied correctly, and/or C improving load times. First things first if your disconnected from a server due to time out, client crash, or restart should you need to wraith the 60 seconds to get back on the same server as you were just on? Why should I be punished like a server hopper for my sister streaming netflix off the wrong wifi network? In my opinion your most recent server should be saved and you should not be required to wait to rejoin. Don't get me wrong sixty seconds isn't a big deal its just sort of insult to injury, oh your client crashed here wait a minute before you get on. Beyond that is it even a good thing? Its objective is to slow down and deter server hoppers from camping out in a military location and getting all the loot on every server but does it do that? Looting the vybor military base, if your fast or better yet working as a team, takes only a few minutes let's say three for a quick once over. Logging out takes ten seconds and then joining a new server takes another minute. It's not exactly hard for someone to loot twelve or more servers in an hour. So is it providing server hoppers with anything but a continent pee break? I don't think so. Finally could this time be used more effectively? absolutely. When your logging in with a sixth second timer only the last fifteen or so seconds are spent loading the world why? If I already have to wait a minute to join why do I then have to wait another thirty seconds to a minute to see my surroundings. Why doesn't the server start to load everything the second the timer starts ticking? Anyway these are just a few thoughts please share your own opinions and if that opinion is "ha ah your a wuss for not wanting to wait or I can loot vybor in two minutes" then oh well that's not my problem -
I've been forced to take a ten minute swim to stop my character from overheating which seems odd to me since he's wearing normal clothing.

I've found two player military tents. One at the western military base which was clever since the whole area is tests. Unfortunately for the owner he was Looking the other way when I found him and an AKM hurts. That was also the only time I've ever seen an AK74 magazine so clearly a hacker. The second time was at the NWAF just in the trees near the large garage buildings on the far north west end. This one was empty and the owner wasn't around so me and my friend left it be.

Scopes for AUG and Winchester model 70
LORDPrometheus replied to Heatofbattle's topic in General Discussion
Well the aug model they are using is the standard model that comes with an integrated 1.5x scope and iron sights. Putting in the base gun optics would be nice but improving the current scopes is probably a better use of the devs time. That and some reduction in muzzle shake. Anyone who has run a pentathlon or competes in three gun competitions can tell you that its not hard to slow down your breathing enough to get off a clean shot. -
To the hoarding server hopper I killed near barracks
LORDPrometheus replied to xhiril's topic in General Discussion
I think items stored in other items should not be able to have anything in them with the obvious exceptions of first aid kits hard cases and ammo cans. Can you fit a a tactical vest in another tactical vest? Maybe but not if its full of cans of peaches and bullets -
Persistence, dropping of items/maintenance
LORDPrometheus replied to Re-Patch's topic in General Discussion
Everything here is accurate as far as I know however for the items disappearing on drop thing my experience has shown this has two possible causes and neither are related to persistence. 1: the item is 'in limbo': this is due to the server update process becoming back logged, this is why you sometimes need to press F several times to open a door or cancel and restart an action to eat something. The server simply lost your request and you need to retry. For example me and my friend shot a deer the other day and tried to skin it but had to try... I think it was 6 times before our request got through. This is also why items will occasionally follow you around (phantom cereal boxes extra guns etc) after you drop them. Your client knows it was dropped but the server missed it and is stuck determining where it is. Waiting several seconds to a full minute usually fixes this issue which gets worse the longer the server is running and the busier it is. 2: the item is underground: in a world as big as this one, areas of poor terrain collision mesh is to be expected. Games like Skyrim and fallout experienced this as well. If you find an area where this periodically happens just avoid it or send in a ticket to the bug tracker. To clarify what is happening is the item leaves the inventory and looks for open floor space to be set down but sometimes the spot it chooses to go is under the floor and since item pickup is both proximity and line of sight you can't always see it. This is why dropping items on the second floor of a building (first floor for Europeans) can sometimes make the item go downstairs or outside the building. Back to persistence: its work in progress and despite its flaws I feel it is critical to the long term success of this game. Does it have issues yes, do they make some players need to server hop to find anything but boots and books yes. Does it often dump every pice of military loot in the map in one place YES! But is it evil and plotting against you to steal you hard earned fully kitted M4? Not at all -
ive had one temporary reset but a quick alt+F4 and reboot fixed the issue
-
have you by chance been switching between public and private hives? this is likely you making a mistake not a true loss of the character
-
I've never heard of this conversion so I'm assuming this is something done by a gunsmith using existing hardware in that case it's very unlikely to be common

It all comes down to play style and range. Close range passive: pistols or shotguns Close range aggressive: shotguns Mid range passive: mosin, repeater, carbine Mid range aggressive: sks or assault rifles Long range passive: assault rifles, sks, or mosin Long range aggressive: mosin Passive means you just scare people off or generally avoid a fight aggressive means you are looking for a fight SMGs basically don't exist so don't bother trying to find them As for the best in categories I'd say this: Melee: fire axe Shotgun: pistol grip mp-133 Pistol: FNX45 or magnum (longhorn if sniping) Assault rifle: AKM or m4 Long range: scoped mosin or scoped SKS Useless guns: Repeater 1911s (as much as I love them IRL) Makarov Ak-74 (due to extreme rarity of mags) P-1 All melee weapons beside splitting or fire axe Sporter if not really skilled Derringer (must be lucky to use)

Who still uses Mosin (+LRS) for range kills?!
LORDPrometheus replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in General Discussion
IRL the mosin was probably the single most accurate battle rifle of its era perhaps of all time! Its effective range could be about 1000m but not with contemporary optics. They simply didn't have the needed magnification. Nowadays putting a 12x or greater magnification scope would let you hit targets at least that far away provided your a proficient marksman. PS: I said battle rifle not rifle don't harass me about sniper rifles and other stuff I know what I'm talking about! -
Rarest Loot (Experienced Looters)
LORDPrometheus replied to punkvegita's topic in General Discussion
Huh I thought it was caliber based not weapon based my bad. I prefer the power you get with the AKM personally... Especially with a drum -
Rarest Loot (Experienced Looters)
LORDPrometheus replied to punkvegita's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't the AK101 use the NATO suppressor since its .556? -
I just love how everyone on this thread is still complaining about persistence existing despite a dev taking the time to come by and say its a core feature and is here to stay Yes it needs improvement Books and boots for one need to be less abundant and a cell needs to be purged on server reset when a massive amount of items is in it IE the ultra loots we all occasionally run across As for performance... Well this is not a game for the causal gamer anyway that being said my rig is an old Phenom II x4 and RadeonHd6850 and I get 60fps unless I'm in a city so unless your using an I3 or Athalon with integrated graphics your fine at this stage with low graphics settings on (I run normal)

Why is Bohema so bad when it comes to AMD?
LORDPrometheus replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
Everyting comes down to hardware settings i have a 4 (almost 5) year old system with an AMD Pehnom II x4 955 black 3.2ghz cpu and RadeonHD 6850 1gb graphics card. i play on a 19in monitor at 1920x1080p 60hz on maximum settings. i get 45-70 FPS in rural areas 30-45 in towns and 30-35 in cherno or electra (without rain rain sucks!). tinker with your settings and you can make any game better -
ive yet to see netting be as common as some of you have stated but burlap sacks are indeed scarce so ive been saving a few

i think persistence servers need hard restarts every few days. restarts that fully wipe everything to clean everything up

Rarest Loot (Experienced Looters)
LORDPrometheus replied to punkvegita's topic in General Discussion
ive found between 10 and 20 of them (the magazines not the gun) in the past month they are only in civilian spawns it seems -
Rarest Loot (Experienced Looters)
LORDPrometheus replied to punkvegita's topic in General Discussion
rarest loot ive ever found would be the RIS hand guard and a pair of 75rd drums for my AKM. other than that ive never seen netting grenades or western silencers. finding a CR75 was cool finding a hacksaw when you need one is impossible. the SMGs are essentially not implemented AK 74 mags... im almost certain they don'tspawn at all scopes are usuallt in garages or that house with the sunroom/mudroom -
a good idea is to have someone watch your back

9mm, .45 ACP and 7.62x39mm are military... why?
LORDPrometheus replied to AmazingAussie's topic in General Discussion
in eastern europe most "civilian weapons" are old russian military rifles such as AKs or SKS or mosin or they are shotguns not very many own handguns -
i think we can assume that until at least .53 the answer is a no

When will we see this game shift more towards survival?
LORDPrometheus replied to kumando's topic in General Discussion
right now i think the devs are looking to expand the foundation (and customer base) before adding more specific features -
every time someone picks up an item a new item spawns somewhere within 1km (after 5min i think) this means that if people cruise through a town and pick up everything but books and boots more items will respawn but the books and boots will remain. eventually its only books and boots left and everything good is locked in a handful of buildings that no one looks in. servers need to do daily hard restarts

What has been your biggest "I'm done" moment?
LORDPrometheus replied to aquamonkey's topic in General Discussion
a few days ago when i was trying to meet up with a friend and realized there had been a magnetic pole reversal only after he reached the coast (i was in Novy Sobor)
