So I've seen a lot of posts complaining about the KoS mentality. I think there are some suggestions I could make as a lifelong gamer and fan of this genre (open world freedom) I'll number this list because that makes it alot easier to read. 1. Create small trading posts with relative safety. I.E NPC guards. This would automatically create a place where people could have a small sense of security and possibly meet other survivors they would otherwise kill or be shot by. Maybe they could be faction controlled? Conversation is a great deterrent for murder. I understand this could create a place where bandits could camp outside and basically potshot guards/players. Which brings me to my next suggestion... 2. Bounties on bandits. They could be player posted, of course there would have to be something monetary for the incentive. Or maybe the incentive is just killing the bandit. Maybe a message could display after the bandit is killed. 3. Karma system for players. Karma system going into the negatives would prevent bandits from having access to cities. By access I mean not being shot on sight by NPC guards. 4. Makeshift player housing. A place to store gear and supplies. I know everyone feels like their ideas are golden, but even these four suggestions I think would create a better dynamic for pvp than is currently available. Hopefully this post doesn't get buried.

What exactly makes a bandit an asshat? Would the experience be more enjoyable if you couldn't rob/kill other players? -

As the devil's advocate. Why stop there? It most certainly won't stop there. As much whining as I see on the forums, it seems like the vocal majority hate PvP. Or at least they hate PvP when they are on the receiving end. This has happened to many many many games in the past. They start off hardcore, then eventually start catering to a more casual mindset. I love PvP. I think the way it is now is fun, but it's only alpha, who knows what the future may bring. My opinion I truly believe will be the minority when this game is released, if none of what I said is halfway implemented. Other games have used that formula and been successful. Every game that has been this unforgiving, I feel that numbers don't lie. It's more than anecdotal evidence. Look at games of the past, original MMO's with high risk/reward systems for example. Any game developer will go the money route before they cater to a minority, and let's face it, a game with this high of a risk VS reward will scare off casual players in the long run. Once again I think the game is fun, but adding these things I mentioned would level things out a bit imo, and also make them less stale. Otherwise in 4 years, you'll only see campers/clans/nolifers playing. Which would ultimately lead to servers with stupid rules applied that are anti-pvp. We've all seen it before. -

I think that mainstream thought is starting to deviate from the old trope of "Media warps our minds!". We live in a different time than we did 10 years ago. Our access to information and media has never been so easy. I remember when I was like 14 and some dude in my class told me about this twisted website. First image that popped up was some chick upside down in a shower spewing a yellow stream of shit out of her ass. I can imagine there are some reading this right now that have seen that very image lol. Let me tell you, that should have scarred most people, but I feel relatively normal, even if the image is forever burned in my head haha. Nowadays kids can just pull out a cell phone and look at all kinds of twisted shit. Beheadings, violent fights, murder ect. I think it would be sweet to do some research on Mortal Kombat. I attempted a Fatality on a class mate, but all I did was knock him out with an uppercut. His head did not actually get knocked off his body lol. All jokes aside, I think the era of blaming media for behavior is a thing of the past. -

That's my point. I'm looking at the big picture. I almost feel it would be necessary, at least partially necessary. Look at how many people complain about KoS. I shoot as soon as I see another person. I will never make any attempt to interact with anyone, because killing an actual living, thinking person, will always trump killing an NPC. If it stayed this way, you'll just see the servers eventually devolving into anti-pvp. Take World at War for instance. Totally different games I know, but try to find an active server with active admins where there aren't ridiculous rules set in place, i.e tactical crouch. I'm not talking about making things easier only more accessible to new players, bad players, and hero mindset types. Edited: Typos -

It is kind of funny when you think about it. I actually kind of based my idea around Ultima Online, which was the first game I played that high high level freedom and the ability to kill anyone on sight and take their gear. Even with cities and guards people complained enough that eventually they added a non-pvp facet on every server. I have high hopes for the game, but money sometimes trumps originality. I'd personally rather see these changes than logging on 6 years from now and every server says "Tactical crouch, friendly only, KoS will be perma banned." Without small compromises this is what I see. I could be completely wrong though :( -

I won't be at a disadvantage when I wait for you run through my area and I pop a cap in your ass from behind a tree. Actually, the fact that death has more penalties would make killing you even more exciting lol.

I completely get where you're coming from. Even if I disagree somewhat with your stance, I do understand. With that being said, we have to kind of look at human behavior realistically. I have played violent games online with 8 year olds in servers where racial slurs and just overall fucked up behavior is the norm. Kids that young have absolutely no business on the internet but I have also been playing online games since I was 13. I've seen and heard it all tbh, and I have used hate speech myself, and a huge collection of racial slurs. We were all 13 once. I am not a bigot, a rapist, or a murderer (unless you ask a liberal), so I would say the influence of games on how I conduct my day to day life is nonexistent. The people that act out on these impulses. They are already unhinged to begin with, and society/entertainment/people ect shouldn't change to accommodate the possibility that some psycho will snap. Educated research should be our tool to combat that type of insane behavior (real life murder/rape/cannibalism ect) -

It's something he just said to me, but honestly it's just talk, like 99% of what you might hear in an online game. Someone uses a racial slur or hatespeech, sure it's hurtful, but really it's just ignorance. Ignorance is just something that is part of the human experience. I also agree with what you said lol. -

I'm perfectly aware, but I'd argue that if a 12 year old is incapable of dealing with what they experience, the best solution is to go play Super Smash Brothers instead :/ We were all teenage gamers once and we all turned out somewhat alright. I think lol. -
Nothing reduces PvP KoS like...I don't know...EATING PEOPLE!?!

Rape is violence. Murder is violence. One has a higher mortality rate. He may have been trying to make that point, but just in an odd way. -

People are so used to games that hold their hands. DayZ does not hold your hand and I love that. In real life would I KoS in a zombie apocalypse? Most definitely not. I would do everything within my power to help other people. I would never take another persons life unless absolutely necessary as would most everyone else, even some of the sick fucks in chat. This is not real life though. Killing other players is fun. I have a friend in real life I play with. I will use any strategy that my mind can come up with to kill another player. I will lie, manipulate, and give you a false sense of security until I spray you with bullets. It's too bad you can't chop a body up, and keep a head in your inventory like the good ol' days of Ultima Online. I need collections of body parts. With that being said not everyone is like me and that's good, but without KoS assholes like me, the game would get very stale. Even the idea that there are sick twisted people in chat saying gay, rapist shit, ect ect. That makes it interesting to me. I'm not as bad as my friend. He said if someone killed themselves irl over what he did to them in-game he could write that off as an accomplishment. My suggestion to people that get upset about KoS. Wait a little longer until the game is more polished, join a teamspeak, join a clan, make friends in the forums, add people on steam. Be proactive instead of reactive. Trackin? Good. Now execute! -
Cmon dude it's alpha. Don't say anything negative now. Beta will be here in a year (maybe lol)

But it's alpha...A tale of magic and wonder (frustration)
Adams (DayZ) posted a topic in New Player Discussion
So I am new to Dayz. I never played the mod, and I don't use teamspeak. I normally hop on here with my buddy, loot the barracks and head to Cherno or Elecktro for some entertainment. Except...not so much. See I understand this game is in alpha. I get it, bugs, glitches, and just overall weird fuckery. With that being said hopefully I am not the only person this has happened to. Alrighty so without further ado. MAGIC! I make my merry way to the barracks near Pavlovo. Sneak sneak. Find an AKM. Oh wow! An AKM!? Server hop, because loot is broken atm. Oh wow, a magazine! And another, and another! Awesome! muchfun.jpg Spend the week hunting, doing fun stuff. Avoiding people ect ect. Thursday night. Buddy doesn't work tomorrow. Good times. Although....not so much. Go to Balota, scan our sector. Do tactical fun stuff. Crash approximately 4 times within a 30 minute time period. It's only Alpha bruh! I crash after I crash, loading up my game to crash. Crashception. So, things get stable. Just thankful to be playing with a buddy. Look over a wall, chat, fun socializing with buddy, warm fuzzies. AKM disappears. Frustration 1.0. Angry that weapon disappears. Dedicate the next 30 minutes to figuring out how and why my weapon dropped and search for it. bennyhilltheme.mpg Never find weapon. Frustration 2.0. Fun officially gone. Only continue playing for buddy, because friends and stuff. He hands me AK101 with 30 round mag. Slightly less angry. Arrive in Cherno. Crash two more times. Buddy crashes as well. Then I crash. Computer runs everything well, never had issues, not sofware, but alpha bruh?! So, we run around, find axe wielding playmate. Bukakke him with a 30 Round AK101, no ammo left, still being hit by axe. Buddy kills him with mosin. Profit? No. Take a guess what happens? A. Crash B. Kill myself C. Lose weapon D. Die while lagged E. All of the above If you answered E congratulations now shove a can of beans up your ass. Fuck my life... -

I feel ya on the RP thing, but being a soldier irl, losing a weapon is the equivalent of losing my arm. It should not ever happen lol. -

It is funny. My buddy is more than likely pissed off at me. Wanted me to cover him inside a house but I ran outside instead, and he got blasted. Came upstairs and shot the dude looting him 6 times with my magnum. Fairly sure he died before that, but umm, 28 rounds from my AK101 didn't even make this other guy flinch. Buddy said it was lag....but who knows lol. -

That's exactly what happened to me. What a shame lol. Hopefully it never happens again, but with DayZ I definitely won't hold my breath. On a side note has anyone ever unloaded a full clip into someone with an automatic weapon and they didn't fall over/unconscious/bleed/die lol? -

When it disappeared did you have it on your hotkey? If so, did the icon kind of white out partially? -

Adams (DayZ) replied to Adams (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
The disappearing weapon would happen frequently if I was using it in my hands (with another primary equipped) and had to drop it to fill a canteen/eat/drink ect. I would drop the weapon, but it would be on the ground somewhere else instead of where I dropped it. On some occasions it would just disappear altogether, although it's possible I just didn't look hard enough. Also, the disappearing in my hands happened today, and it was in a full server. That would really suck if the cheat scripter thing is for real and this is a common occurrence.... :( -

Adams (DayZ) replied to Adams (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I'm glad I'm not the only one but that does suck if it's a common issue. I read somewhere that this alpha has been out a year. Not sure if that's a long time for an alpha. A year seems like a long time. That's actually something I've seen religiously said on the forums. I do actually see this lol, and I didn't actually expect the game to have as much content as it does, so I was actually genuinely surprised. It does make you wonder what it is in the script that hasn't allowed them to fix that issue? Is this something new or has it happened since release?
