56 members enjoyed it, the oddly sour souled Grinch here ^^ felt the unmistakable pang of jealousy and lashed out, laying bare several of his weakness for all to see. Pathetic. Grimey Rick with a silent 'P' -

For me it's the complete lack of variety, it's early days in the alpha process so what's the rush to fill the map with towns? FIRST - let's get every building and every room on the map enterable. these doors at the top of stairwells that lead nowhere lol, we have lock picks and the ability to smash doors in with our fists, get those rooms sorted. Let's have at least another 10 or 12 building models to help give some of these towns/villages a bit of individual character. Mix it up, don't feel like every town must have every house on the menu. You heard of paint??? ok, so we got a ton of the same houses, why not give them a variety of paint jobs, edit a line of code and turn a green house into a brown house or whatever, randomize door and window frame colur schemes...use your imaginations guys.... THEN start thinking about where you might want to add settlements, it's this mad crazy rush to fill the map with the same 12 or so building types that makes no sense, with all those resources and the much feted team of artists at your disposal? come on lol, GET THEM CREATING and STOP REPLICATING!

I never played the mod but I am familiar with the original chernarus map from playing Arma 2 and I agree with you OP, they have fucked up the North, and not just the North. Too many samey identikit towns with samey identikit buildings, no variety, no imagination, no 2 towns feel different in any way, it's just lazy house spamming across the countryside. Someone at BIS is clearly obsessed with towns. The beauty of the original Chernarus was in the wilderness areas, getting lost then the relief of spotting a farm or a small village, we have to walk for no more than 2 minutes now before we stumble upon yet another village or town, it's a bit crap to be honest. Someone needs to have a quiet word in the devs ear and advise them that vast swathes of wilderness are needed in order for players to experience all that the game has to offer, like making camps, realistic hunting and trapping and living off the land. DayZ should be about much more than just looting the same 11 building models over and over and over again. In my opinion the game would benefit from a drastic settlement cull, 12 towns and villages should be binned.

Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
Noble Savage replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
with the exception of those who use 3rd person specifically as a wall hack. As mentioned there is a choice, it's great that we can play on 1pp servers if we want, also, from my admittedly limited experience 1pp only players on the whole seem to be a slightly better class of player, so the existence of a choice acts as a kind of idiot filter. Not for one moment suggesting all 3pp players are idiots, far from it, but for sure all idiots are 3pp players. -

Once they make water purification a necessity then of course, we will do it, as should any sensible player, the same goes for disinfecting kit and cooking foods but that isn't really 'purist' in the way I mean it in the OP, I am thinking more about playing the game in the purest way without any help or assistance from 3rd party apps or sources of information and making things as realistic, immersive and challenging as possible. Surviving and communicating using only the tools provided within the game. Although I am going to look into this side of gameplay a lot more in the future. Another guy suggested surviving by only hunting, trapping and fishing etc and using only tools that you need for crafting purposes and weapons/clothes/backpacks that you make, again this is an awesome way to approach the game but you could do this without necessarily playing in a purist way by using 3rd person and teamspeak etc. I have found them and hooked up batteries but never managed to communicate with anyone, we are making this our next mission, to see if they work and if they do then we will use them a lot I am sure. -

you can find scraps of paper or tear blank pages from books, just drag the pen to the paper and select 'write note' and type your message, once saved you cannot edit or delete. Also you can't write on paper that has already been written on. -

by searching for them, and by leaving each other notes and coded messages in places where we know the others will eventually look, sometimes, when servers get wiped or persistence fails or someone else discovers the note etc the message never gets through, as mentioned in the OP we are often separated for days at a time, but we like this aspect, the feeling we enjoy after finally locating one another after a few days apart is really very special, it certainly beats 'hey meet you in starry in 10 minutes' over teamspeak. -

the 1pp rule is mainly personal preference, using in game comms only really adds to the feeling of being there, now persistence is slowly being improved the use of notes and coded signals etc really has the potential to allow more players to try dayz without the magical meta gaming chat tools that, in our opinion lessens the experience. -

''Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.” Winston S. Churchill The many = the player base, the few = the dev team -
if anything, in a purely post apocalyptic context, the act of totally removing potential threats might in fact demonstrate an entirely sane outlook from a perspective of survival at any cost, and this is a game about survival. On the other hand the needy quest to befriend strangers with guns might be viewed as a sign of certain mental instability and, as Einstein said ''doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results'' is the very definition of insanity. killers are always repeating the SAME behaviour (killing players) while expecting the SAME results (free loot and extended lifetime) whereas 'friendly' players are forever repeating the SAME behaviour (exposing themselves to danger) and expecting DIFFERENT results (maybe this one won't kill me) and are clearly displaying the signs of being driven mad by loneliness. So if any player group should be marked by mental ill health it certainly shouldn't be the sane and clinical killers, the winners of the greatest game on earth, survival of the fittest, no, the serial victims of KoS, it is they are truly mentally defective.

Great quote that nails the way most of us view this wonderful game, it is the ultimate human hunting simulator. A lot of ill advised hate out there for us PVP lovers despite the fact that WE ARE IN THE MAJORITY. Dayz is a game about hunting players and being hunted by players, the killing of players is simply the best part of the game, if killing players was not permitted this game would die faster than a carebear with hand-crafted backpack and bow saying 'friendly' lol. I particularly like the moment when I break a mans ego. Bobby Fischer -
Here's my own personal favourite kill, it was an exremely tough decision as I treasure the memory of each and every single precious kill, I mean how do you choose? there was the fisherman who cried, the panicky black lady of balota who almost managed to escape and of course the American squeaker I befriended at the airfield and had to tolerate until I finally found some rounds for my AK, who am I kidding 'favourite kill' lol, they are all acts of sublime gaming beauty in their own way haha, anyway here it is.... He was sat at the top of the town hall in novo reading from a book, his voice had a kind of singing quality to it, he was genuinely enjoying the literature and was so damned enthusiastic. every door was locked, I didn't want to smash my way in as that would no doubt spook him, so I went in search of a lock pick, it took a while but I finally found one in a house across the street. I sprinted up the stairs and began negotiating the locked doors, his happy joyous tones filling the air, eventually I was at the summit and the final barrier between us was removed, I raised my pump action shotgun, rounded the corner and behold, there he was, seated and still reading from his beloved text, I fired 3 shots at the side of his face and he died immediately, mid sentence. I love this kill because of the stark contrast between his happy, sunshiney voice and the stark brutality of the abrupt triple retort that emanated from the shotgun, truly a moment of wonder to be savoured. Many of us simply love killing players and this game offers up so many wonderful and weird opportunities to quench that twisted thirst, please share your treasured memories of your favourite kill and explain precisely why is it your favourite?

some crackers here, it's great to see people openly celebrating the killing of other players, a much maligned aspect of this beautiful game, keep em coming. even you carebears must have shed a little blood in your time, come on, share your stories, lets have more favourite killings to peruse and enjoy at leisure.
