Here is a list of ideas my friends and I came up with that we feel would dramatically improve the game and add to immersion, there were many more that have already been suggested so I have omitted, I am sure some or even all of these have been suggested before however I was unable to find them. Notes, maps and books Ability to write on used note paper, also ability to write on both sides Ability to write on blank pages in books without removing them and the ability to insert notes into books Ability to pin notes to certain surfaces, trees, doors etc Ability to write/draw on maps Animation for the reading of books/notes/maps with actual models for books/maps and notes, not overlay screen Only able to read books, maps and notes at night with a light source (torch/candles/fire/flares/moonlight if clear and full moon?) Voice/communication Volume range for chat/voice similar to the ACRE system, whisper/talk/shout Morse code button on radios Nature Sun rising in the east and setting in the west in real time as in Arma (day/night cycle can be set by server admins as it is now) Accurately depicted lunar cycles with phases, crescent to full moon etc Variable dynamic wind direction, clouds, dead leaves, rain, tall grass, weather vanes on church roofs etc move with the wind Realistic oceanic tides, when the tide is out ability to forage for shellfish which takes us to... Food and drink Ability to store food in sealed plastic bags and refrigerate in ponds/streams to extend life Vinegar and jars to pickle vegetables and fish, to preserve it and extend life Salt to cure meat in order to preserve it and remove the need for cooking Ability to air dry and/or smoke meat and fish, also to preserve it Hot drinks, tea, coffee and cocoa and soups to help warm us up Thermos flasks to keep hot drinks/soups hot Medical Crutches to aid walking with wounded leg and to speed healing Slings for wounded arms, again to aid the healing process Visible bandages, ointments and antiseptic creams for dressing wounds to aid healing Ability to remove bullets/shrapnel from wounds using a sterilised knife to aid healing

I'm a part of a small group of players, currently 3 members, that choose to make this game as difficult for ourselves as possible, we strive for ultimate realism and immersion in order to extract maximum enjoyment and satisfaction from the DayZ experience. We do this by strictly adhering to the following 7 rules. 1 - No 3rd person view We play only on first person servers 2 - No 3rd party comms No TeamSpeak, Skype etc when in game, No email/Steam/forum pm's relating directly to in game activities or locations. No arranging to meet etc. We do this when in game via direct chat, radios and through the use of notes using pre-arranged drops. We are also working on a system of coded messages, for example 2 sticks left by a selected spot near the wall outside the NWAF indicates one of us is looting there, so be careful who you shoot. 3 - No Dayz db map bollocks We avoid any out of game tools that make locating items or places easier, we use in game maps/compass and the sun, moon and stars along with our knowledge of Chernarus to navigate our way around. 4 - No server hopping Absolutely not, we play on a small selection of 1pp only private and public hive servers, if the server resets during play we always rejoin that particular server to resume play although when beginning a new play session we can join any of our favourites, arrangements to meet on particular servers are done in game using the methods described above. 5 - No combat logging Even with the timer system we frown upon cowardice, the only time we log is when we are done for the day or night. 6 - Gamma cheating is for pussies Goes without saying, if the sun has gone down then flares, chemlights and torches are the order of the night. 7 - No Duping/exploiting Obviously absolutely no duping or exploiting of any kind is permitted, this includes ladder bugs and taking advantage of other flaws in the games mechanics. Things can get complicated, for example myself and a friend once lost each other for over 3 weeks, we kept returning to favourite haunts on favourite servers until I eventually found a note which gave coordinates for my friends new camp which I found, I left a note arranging to meet him there the following evening and our period of separation ended thus. These separations are not rare and often last for a few days, once persistence is functioning more consistently this will become less of an issue, although we actually enjoy this aspect of the game and the challenge of finding each other gives our game a real sense of purpose and that feeling we get when we finally spot each other is really very rewarding. Are there any other players that play in this way? Are there any other steps we could take to further improve upon our quest to play DayZ in the purest way possible? edit A couple of people have pm'd me and expressed an interest in what we are doing and have asked where we play, so here is a list of our favourite servers for anyone else who would like to try and get involved. All 1st person only, 2 public and 2 private. Scandanavian allstars (public) The violent gentlemen's club (public) The last division (private) Dayz underground (private) and we are - NobleSavage, BovverBoi and TrickyToerag, if you see us in the server list jump in and let's hope our paths cross and it goes peacefully : ) As stated elsewhere in this topic, we are not a clan, there is no hierarchy, we are more of a loose community of likeminded souls who share a common vision. Anyone who feels as though this way of playing might be for them is more than welcome to attempt to cross our paths and make a connection, the more the merrier, although it has to be said that anyone can play this way, it doesn't require any kind of group membership although an experience shared is always more valuable. We are planning on getting our own private shard server sometime in the future which will be whitelisted/passworded and aimed specifically at other players of a purist persuasion, I will update here if and when that happens, of course it will be persistence enabled, normal day and night cycles and will be purist in any other ways that the devs give admin options for. None of us have any experience with running a server so we would be very interested in hearing from anyone who knows their way around the admin console. keep it real : )

There's a utility currently climbing up the steam charts called Dimmdrive. the devs claims it will deliver substantial performance boosts to any game. Here's the storepage link http://store.steampowered.com/app/337070 Just wondering if anyone here has tried it with DayZ, one of the devs has said in a steam forum thread that the utility does indeed deliver a huge boost to Arma 3, of course he would say that : ) Really interested to know what others think of such programs, I'd especially like to hear from anyone that has tried it with DayZ.

too obvious troll, far too obvious, ignored.
-
unfortunately for you I read your first unedited reply and therefore I can't take anything you say seriously, you have just joined your pal on my ignore list ; )
-
I have 16GB of RAM but to be honest my performance is not terrible, although any boost would be welcome. I do agree with you that £23 seems a bit steep for what might be a marginal increase in performance and certain added inconvenience. Still be interested to hear from someone that has tried it and benchmarked the results even if that info would be subjective as PC specs can differ wildly.
-
indeed, an animation would be most welcome, i also agree about 3rd person to a point, at least we have 1pp only available to us, the way i see it 3pp servers attract most of the hackers/trolls/kids and other undesirables so in that sense I am a fan of it.

it has, I often die for my principles, it's the only thing worth dying for.

being able to access your backpack while sprinting with a gun in your hands, something i refuse to do out of principle.

Why is Bohema so bad when it comes to AMD?
Noble Savage replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
I had a pretty decent AMD set up that coped well with most AAA games but just couldn't handle BIS games, as I love Arma 3 and DayZ i treated myself to an Intel based system and it too copes admirably with most AAA titles and I have to say handles Arma 3 and DayZ very well indeed. I get a steady 25 - 60 FPS depending on where I am, it dips in Cherno but everywhere else averages out at over 45 FPS with a mixture of High to Ultra settings. Nobody wants to rubbish another persons hardware however it is fair to observe that Intel makes superior CPU's and Nvidia makes better GPU's than AMD, AMD are slightly cheaper but you get what you pay for. Right now I would strongly suggest to anyone that loves playing this game but has AMD hardware that struggles with it, you should consider upgrading to Intel if you can, the improved performance is well worth the investment. -
I agree that any high powered weapons should be extremely rare, a gun like that with a thermal scope should be something most players never even see.
-
To be honest I agree with everything the OP says, although his delivery could be better. I hope they don't put pooping etc in and as for mobile laboratories and viruses that need to be cured, Rocket didn't actually say that did he? can't see how that would fit this game at all. And a back story wouldn't hurt. Even the Anti materiel sniper rifle idea, why not make those in vehicles feel the same sense of vulnerability that us pedestrians are forced to endure? As for thermal scopes, could be a tad over powered but imagine knowing there were thermal scopes out there as you crept along a treeline, would certainly add to the sense of jeopardy that this game thrives on... they would need to be extremely rare but now we have the beginnings of a centralized loot economy why not? edit - and EVERYBODY calls them Zombies or Zeds, no matter what Rockets original intentions the community has overruled him on that one.

How do you manage your real life and DayZ at the same time?
Noble Savage replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
I have had dayz for a couple of months and have played 68 hours, I love the game but I love life more. -
I share use of a desktop pc with my 2 housemates, we all have Steam accounts and two of us own seperate copies of DayZ. Now, if my housemate has played DayZ since I last played wheni log in I get his character up on my screen and his character name, the same goes in reverse, if I finish up and log out of Steam when my friend logs into his steam account and boots up his Dayz game he gets my character and in game name. This is annoying but not game breaking however things have taken a stranger turn... It seeme we share a GUID, or at least Steam/dayz client is occasionally confusing our GUID's along with our characters and names. I know this because I submitted my GUID to a whitelisted server and my friend didn't. However, when logging from the desktop we can both play on that server, although if my friend plays dayz twice without me playing in between we can neither of us join the whitelisted server. This is not the case when we log into steam /dayz from our own laptops. It doesn't take much imagination to see the potential for serious problems, for example if one party hacked the other may get the ban not to mention trolling of friends etc, we are both too mature for either of those but i am sure there are hundreds if not thousands of other players in a similar situation who are unaware of this. Are the devs aware? and are there plans to address it?

multiple accounts from one PC = GUID chaos

multiple accounts from one PC = GUID chaos
Noble Savage replied to Noble Savage's topic in Troubleshooting
cheers, will do. There's definitely something odd happening, i am currently unable to log into any of my whitelisted servers, also, I didn't edit my house mates IGN and when in game I show up as him on the player list. Anyway, I will submit a ticket now. -
+1 This issue needs addressing and I imagine it wouldn't take too much work, the way the headtorch is now makes an otherwise awesome piece of kit pretty much unusable.

Meet & Greet hosted by [FOG] (Jan. 18th, Sun.)
Noble Savage replied to blunce's topic in General Discussion
better never late ; ) its 1pp only right? put me down. -
*throws him a shovel and walks away with wry smile and a shake of the head.

You think the devs didn't carefully consider the spawn rates before implementation? Do you really believe that ignoring one of the core principles of the game, scarcity, in order to pander to the lazy few will somehow give the development process a much needed boost? I believe there are shovels in game, I suggest you pick one up and try to dig yourself out of the pit of foolishness you find yourself occupying.

i don't hear the davs screaming for more testing, do you? I'm pretty sure they are getting all the data and feedback they need, otherwise this would already be happening lol. As well as testing new features and mechanics we are testing the game experience which is ultimately all that matters. It takes very little time and effort to meet up if you want to use out of game communications, simply arrange to meet at a particular place on a particular server at a particular time, then log in and start walking/running/swimming/driving. Better yet don't die and log out in the same place together...bingo! next time you play you got yourselves an instameet. This whole idea is nonsense.
-
The essence of the dayZ experience is the struggle, the struggle to survive, the struggle to find what you want, what you need, the struggle to keep it and the struggle to stay together and find each other. No thankyou, don't make the alpha easier than the game is ultimately intended to be because of a handfull of lazy players that don't get it. Want to meet up in game? Better start hiking.

depends on where you are, I find badly damaged clothing in green or brown work best as the patchy appearance of the fabric helps to break up your shape. i was once being chased through cherno by 2 bandits, I rounded this corner in the industrial sector and went prone near a pile of trash in the road and they both ran straight past me, ruined green raincoat, damaged brown cargo pants plus damaged black ushanka with my face buried in the dirt must have made me pretty hard to spot.

If he has logged out believing himself to be alone then no, I wouldn't stoop so low. If I suspected however, that he had logged in order to avoid a confrontation then I wouldn't hesitate to put one right between his eyes, I would then defile his cowardly corpse.

ok, myself and a friend finally managed to get hold of a radio apiece at the same time, both had attached working batteries (tested in a flashlight) and both set to the same (default) frequency, yet we failed to get them to work at all. We started close together and of course we heard each other but that was through direct, as we moved apart to a few hundred metres direct chat eventually cut out and then silence. Are radios functioning ATM? and if they are, is there a knack to using them? thanks
