Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

We use the Server Admin currently to post Mission updates on general locations of escorting groups, or status of the person that is the "capture" scenario

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

I forsee our server having HUNDREDS of mission options. Many, but not all will involve Zombie Hords or just the regular amount of ingame Zombies as part of the challenge. Ultimately I expect the more complex missions that have both Hords and Players / Clans to participate as rival forces. Something I have mentioned, but will point out again is some of the best PVP I have participated in was when a group was escorting a Scientist that had a potential Cure to the virus from point A to point B and while my clan pirsued the escort to capture the Scientist we picked off any Rival groups that were trying to do the same. On one of these we killed 12-13 players in just over an hour and even found the escort group twice and killed a few of the group (But never did capture the Scientist) as he kept moving and evaded us.

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

We have actually participated on 3-4 various servers and done in game Missions. Typically, the host team is at a huge disadvantage, which I think it how it sould be. Right now the only "reward" is the fun of alternative PVP and bragging rights, but Mods will change that. Escorts in pariticular are a meat grinder and you are right, players and groups will snipe the escorting group and lay traps to hinder their success. The one saving grace for the hosting escort group is often times these opposing groups will also kill each other off trying to get prime position or bragging rights. Often times the groups do not "play friendly" with each other, so that gives the escort group some chance if they play smart and keep moving to their destination. The Fun meter on these Missions is through the roof, and even when hosted on otherwise dead servers, they fill up and are always packed, as long as they are advertised ahead of time. I wanted to add too, that perhaps the best thing about "mods" may be that it gives server hosts (admin teams) the ability to structure the Missions correctly, and angle at ways to encourage players to play the Mission and not just play it as if they were in Open World PVP. We have had a very good participation rate on the Missions we have played without mods, especially on escorts and "Hold the building" or "free the hostage" situations. I guess every community might be different. It helps that our players and groups tend to be more mature and often times even helped us organize for the Mission quest. We ask our Clans to offer an scenario and serve as the host group. Maybe that alone encourages a spirit of cooperation?
  4. We recently put up a new banner on our DayZ Standalone Facebook page, and I think it came out great. Our banner creater was =Fish=DeptonesElite. We use this for both advertising our Server and for our Multi Clan Facebook page. What are you using for your DayZ FB page, server or FB page? Post um here I'd love to see what is out there and what different DayZ artist are doing out there!

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

A New Scenarios concept: SUPER MISSIONS - A cult clan group has stolen nuke codes from the military base and plans to launch the nukes from the safety of the base in an effort to wipe out all of the zombies and rival clans on the map. Their goal is to destroy all life outside of their clan and repopulate later. The Mission is for all Clans to attack at the base location (given in server announcement) and seize the Nuke Codes before the bomb goes off - Which means the server resets (We have considered locking the server on this "SUPER MISSION" after players acknowledge participating in the mission, and if there is a Nuke reset all players on the server outside of the group that set off the bomb die. Groups would have two hours to seize the nuke codes before launch. This type of Mission requires all players on the server to participate, whereas others do not hold any requirement.

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

Oh I agree. The Mods will be amazing for the servers that have the money, time, and skills to implement "Missions" and such. We plan to have hundreds of potential Missions for both Open world and Clan Bases (read all about them in my posts above) and we will even eventually host a "Mission Night" with one Scenario after another for the night (Groups can decide which scarios to enage on from a menu). Most of those will likely fall into the "open world" theme of DayZ, but some of the base missions are pretty amazing. One scenarios I think would be amazing fun is a Clan based defense of the ship at Rify. Inside the ship in four random places are barrels full of weapons, ammo, and mags. Stuff good enough that anyone on would definately want to go there and get it. The catch is that a Clan will be there defending the ship (the clan that initiated the mission) and whatever they can defend on the ship they get to keep. I also think it would be amaxing to give the host clan 15 minutes before the mission is announced on the server to set up booby traps, establish position, and also to give the attacking Clans a chance to get there to attack!

BTW - Don't forget to visit our Multi Clan Facebook page that is rapidly growing. Its for everything DayZ with a Clan play emphasis! Our host Server is First Person (HARDCORE PVP)
  11. Wow! This topic has over 1,300 views and some really amazing ideas for bases. I'm still thinknig over a lot of the ideas shared here, but have to admit that while Bases will be great for storing and stealing loot, I love how it could lead to saome really fun homefield advantage in Clan PVP. My most anticipated aspect of bases though will be the mods / Base Missions. The sky is the limit!

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

For me, I hate that notion. I like our server being First Person and only one connection to the Hive because it creates "our own" world of DayZ. While it wouldnt harm the loot economy to do it as you mentioned, it also just doesnt ring true in terms of creating everything from scratch in our Day FactionZ world.
  13. I agree. Building large bases doesn't make a lot of sense for a non pvp group or solo player, unless you are attracted to the Mods missions that will also enhance PVE at some point. Our Clan and some on the server are Friendly IsH, but PVP is definately our bread and butter. I do think though that bases have huge potential on a Multi Clan Server, or any that plan to implement Mods when it becomes possible. There is alot of room for DayZ to grow. Open world DayZ is great. It's enough for me in fact just to play the game for that mode, but the extension of Group or solo Missions using other rival players / clans and hords of Zombies will put DayZ over the top!
  14. I'm not sure how it will all come together yet for our server in terms of Missions, but I expect to have several hundred missions for players or groups to choose from. Detective types of missions and Treasure Hunt types are very popular and it well scripted they could add tremendously to DayZ Edit Note: It just occured to me too that it would be cool if a bandit or robber that stole loot could create a detective Mission that would "spawn" as a mission option the next few times he logged in at the same time the player who owned the loot was on. That would be pretty cool.
  15. I think active admins on a Private Server (More accountability and more knowledge of who the player base is) will be critical for dealing with hackers. A good Admin team can greatly reduce the impact of hackers, and server backups are frankly Very easy to do in case something really crazy happens. Any good admin checks the logs everyday and knows what to look for. Plus if the player base does a good job reporting it really helps. I do agree that base building most benefits Groups / Clans, but when the mods come offering missions and rewards for beating PVE or PVE / PVP missions Solo players will absolutely want to get in on that as well. Here was the types of Mod Base Missions I described: Could you imagine some in game scenarios like the following missions to change the pace of "Open World" PVP that DayZ is currently built around: - In game mission to use your base to hold off a "herd" of a few hundred Zombies, or even Zombies and other Clans that are coming to not only test your PVP skills, base building decisions, but also to capture a barrel reward with some of the games best weapons and ammo. If you hold off the herd and attacking clans for a certain time length, the barrel is yours, if not, then whatever clan can breach first and capture the barrel gets the reward. The best weapons are always great bait for PVP Clans to come hunting for you! But maybe your group will not only kill them and take their loot, but you can also win the reward loot! - Or, an in game mission to defend your base where you have captured a high ranking government official who was responsible for the virus destroying the world, and rival clans want to breach your base and capture the hostage. If a clan can captures him and get him to their base and hold him for a certain time limit, they win the event. If you hold him at your base, or recapture him for said time then you win the event. Who knows what type of reward a difficult mission like this has to offer. Maybe a map to the Heli locations in game at a certain time? - or, an in game annoucement regarding a Heli Crash somewhere in gerneral on the map. The mission requires you or your clan to reach a given Heli Crash where a Rival Clan Prisoner has survived a Heli crash while he was being transported from Novo to Prison Island. You have to fight off both zombies and other Clans also trying to capture him and return him to your base in order to interogate him/her and win classified information about a hidden cache of weapons, food, and ammo. At that point, the clan has a time limit to reach the cache destination and carry all you can until the time limit concludes (while other clans are aggressively looking for you on the map). Note: You will have to fight through Zombies to reach him (they may kill him if you take too long) and you will have to fight through Zombies to breach the cache. Keep in mind other clans want to also drink your milkshake! - Or, someone in your clan has brought in a barrel full of meat, lime, and seeds (and some large water storage) that seems to be attracting an unusual amount of Zombies wanting to get to it. They seem fully aware of where it is in your base and are gathering in large numbers trying to breach your base and consume it. If you defend the food successfully, its all yours, or if you defend a portion of it you keep whatever you can defend from the Zombie Army. You better have a well planned Zombie defense! Oh - and don't forget all that shooting may just catch the ear of rival clans! - At the start of this mission, a server wide message is released letting all players know the location of your base on the map. In the middle of your base a Military Tent is spawned with assorted goodies, including Military clothing, backpacks, helmets, gloves and all the various accessories that it takes hours of looting to find. If you can hold down the base for an hour from Rival Clans, the Military clothing and gear is yours. (Announcement actually begins 15 minutes before Tent spawns so rival Clans or players may find the base.) Ok - So as I said, I think the mods in particular will offer some amazing pvp and in game opportunities. These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I know my server population is planning on being a leader in the mod community and we will hit the ground running when they become available. With a base group of 25ish small to medium clans you can imagine how much fun this could be and what types of DayZ opportunites we can create. * If you like this "Missions discussion, there are a bunch more in the forums here: (We are hoping for folks to share more mission ideas)
  16. Exactly. I think every Clan that has a base understand that guys like you are a factor. You just can't "love you loot" because it can be stolen at anytime! My Clan is big on the idea of having secret hidden "Barrel Bases'. We have 3-4 spots that have last over a year! Some are in spots that you'd laught if I told you where because they are right under the poulations nose! We use those for quick Bambi gearing up so we can rush back to pvp and actually be a factor in battle. I would think MOST PVP clans like we are do the same, but I don't know for sure. We also have some bases further North but never place them near debug or in the Northern or western forests, because we find camps there literally everytime we take the time to search there. We have 3 spots that have been very reliable and can be defended if we are around! Earlier in this thread I posted about how the new bases will contribute to the game's PVP and PVE experiences. We will absolutely build a large base somewhere that we can defend, and poeple will sneak in and steal stuff when we arent around, but we are around a lot! We have Americans, Lithuanians, UK folks, Canadians, and our time zones allow us to have a presence on much of the day. Looters will certainly die sneaking in to burglerize our big obvious base. As I mentioned earlier though, We will build our base knowing that time and again we will have stuff stolen. Our goal is more about building a base that we can restock the shelves anytime we have things stolen, and construct a base where it will be difficult to take loot away or take away our persistent storage containers. I think the clans that can do that will experience the best of base building, because then we can not only use it for pvp defense but also as a real base of operations. don't forget too, the bases will have explosive defense like grenade traps, Electric fencing, etc. It wont be as easy as just walking in folks. Nor should it be. There should be a fine line between too easy to breach and unbreachable. The mods too will allow for bases to take on a whole new role if you read my post about "mod missions"... that will grow into one of the most popular aspects of DayZ IMO
  17. We actually have a few players that love the idea of managing the base and defending it. They also like to farm, etc and while they don't seek PVP they like it to come to them. For those sorts, they are built in base hounds. To each his own I guess. I'm still thinking that Bases will be best on Private servers with one connection to the hive. Especially when mods come in to being.
  18. Remember too that there is going to be electrified fences, barbed wire, and we already have bear traps and trap grenades. There will be some forms of protection even when we are offline. But again, don't love your loot in the base, it will get taken. You may even have to fight just to get your base back!
  19. This point you've made is really true of all servers, both public and private, that have more than one connection to the hive. That's why I have always preferred playing on servers that only have one connection to the hive! Servers that offer that 'only one connection to the hive feature" will be wildly popular (they already are in fact) when base building comes into DayZ, especially with the mods.

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

As a Multi Clan Server host, I really like that particular Hives will host particular Mods. I think this will provide the best servers with a means to "see the cream rise" in terms of the best server groups. Our particular group is a more mature crowd than most I have visted during my over 3,000 hours in game. Most of us not only have 2000 plus hours, but we are led by business professionals already working in our chosen career fields, which will make finances for mods possible, plus the training many of us have in the field. It should allow us to offer some amazing DayZ gameplay to our players! That said, we will always only have one connection to the hive, so our server spots in First Person will be limited to whatever the max population offered is by Fragnet. We are really hoping for 100 Capacity servers soon, because we completely expect to fill it up. Perhaps down the road if it becomes as popular as I suspect we will also offer a single hive connection on 3rd Person as well, but most our population prefers HARDCORE PVP and 3rd person has some well known in game issues that make it's PVP less than optimal (Wall glitching, seeing through and around walls, etc). Anyhow, I do think Mods will be what separate the boys from the men in terms of server hosting. Active admins that have a good team around them will definately seem their servers boom while the others will likely struggle for population.
  21. How dare you. I will now loot your tacos!
  22. I think that goes without saying. However, this thread is about when it does actually get here. Base Building will without question be one more revolutionary aspect to DayZ gaming. I think it will be on par with the new renderer in terms of how much "good stuff' it brings to the game.
  23. Welcome to the discussion, and thanks for participating. I have two answers that I believe are revolutionary to the DayZ experience related to your question! I hope I dont let you down... Ok, as to why Base Building can offer something thats different, keep in mind that whether it comes in game or with mods, when we can place bases pretty much wherever we are wanting to build (like in real life) defending a base becomes a real possibility and another extension of a potential PVP situation. This is huge for First Person Hard Core PVP Servers like mine! If you go through some of my posts on this thread I actually break own some of the ways we will use our base, and even share ways we may choose to create it that would clearly add to the game. The best potential though for Base Building might be something entirely different, and come through Mods. Could you imagine some in game scenarios like the following missions to change the pace of "Open World" PVP that DayZ is built around: - In game mission to use your base to hold off a "herd" of a few hundred Zombies, or even Zombies and other Clans that are coming to not only test your PVP skills, base building decisions, but also to capture a barrel reward with some of the games best weapons and ammo. Ok - So as I said, I think the mods in particular will offer some amazing pvp and in game opportunities. These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I actually have a thread up in these forums asking people to share their ideas for mini game scenarios so we can actually start creating a list of ideas for when the mods come. I know my server population is planning on being a leader in the mod community and we will hit the ground running when they become available. With a base group of 25ish small to medium clans you can imagine how much fun this could be and what types of DayZ opportunites we can create.
  24. We have a clan of about 17 players, and about 10 are very active for the most part. All of our active players can't stop talking about what Base Building can do for how we carry out our business, or for how we can use it to our advantage when hosting PVP events on the server or for storage. I'm guessing we have 5-6 that at least when it comes out in game, will be more about base building than they are about pvp (which is huge to us) and looting (also huge to us). We have a concept that may sound weird at first, but if you think it through is pretty solid based on what we know about the game. In a nutshell, I think the best base isn't unlootable, it's just put together in a way where the persisntent storage within the base can survive most "burgleries" and allow for the shelves to be restored through more looting. The best base is also easy to defend due to it's location, and design (A whole bunch can be done to create narrow passages that are difficult to breach). That was my original intent on this thread, is to not only discuss base building in a general way, but to also share ideas we have about specific ways or places to base build, such as some of the examples I have provided. If we place our base somewhere difficult to loot, like say on top of Triple Yellow as I mentioned earlier, All tents except Car Tents can be carried up the ladder. Car Tents or Barrels would have to be brought via Heli storage one or two at a time up to the top, where they could be placed inside the building already large rooms or within the base walls (or a few at both). Having a base in a location where the ladder processs hinders or excludes the actual storage items from being carried off creates a longer process for the "burgler" stealing loot and even if they have the time to grab it, climb up and down the ladder with gear, the worst thing that happens in most cases is you lose loot (which is normal DayZ) but you still end up with all your storage and your base intact in most cases. All that time looting too, and transfering gear up and down also gives us time to have someone log in and defend the loot. I think situations like that are about the most a Base builder can hope for, not to mention using a well hidden stash for the very best of the loot, in base or away from it.
  25. Brian Hicks did say in the video I posted that there will never be an unbreakable base. I do think though that the catch on that may be that a well designed base, in a well thought out location could be easy to defend for even a single player. That said, since it takes some skill to manage all that, and the fact that no clan or player is on 100% of the time, All bases can be looted if the "burgler" is also smart about his business!
