  1. Desync is so bad with zombies that we are back to just standing still exchanging blows as the most effective way of melee killing them. You can't avoid hits from them anymore, so be prepared to have your sh*t damaged. I think until they have the melee system reworked, they should just drop zombies out on the stable patches.
  2. Hi. Here are some ideas I did a search for and didn't find. 1. Land mines (pressure plate triggered explosives) 2.* Claymore (Directed positional explosive wired to door or tripwire) 3. Tripwires (Attached to grenade, claymore, etc.) 4.** Gun traps (Attached to door via rope or wire or tripwire) (*) Formula could be something as simple as 2 sharpened sticks (as per arrow crafting) combined with a wire or rope (more visible) could be placed perpendicular in a softer soil surface about 3 meters across maximum. Alternatively, a wire/rope could be attached to a closed door handle, and then a grenade (claymore, etc.) attached directly to that wire/rope. (**) Formula could be something like 3 normal sticks and duck-tape to create a makeshift stand (or alternatively use a tripod) that could be attached to a door handle, or a preset tripwire. At that point you could place the fiftieth shotgun you found on the stand, load it with ammo, and walk out the back door locking it behind you... Any differing methods or crafting ideas that would seem more probable/practical are welcome if they approximate the same end goal. Any thoughts? BTW - Tripwire should also live up to it's name. Even when not attached to anything else, people running or sprinting into them without jumping them should fall over.

    Zombie Kids

Ever since Bethesda decided to remove the ability of killing kids from Fallout 3 (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Childkiller), I think the trend has been set for games. They either have no children in the video game, they're removed from the gameplay areas (cutscenes, on other side of a wall, etc.), or they are somehow invincible to death. I'm not sure if it affect digital online sales, or how Steam handles age restrictions, but isn't child killing an automatic "AO" (http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp) rating for a video game? As mentioned previously, certain countries have made censoring of controversial content the norm (Australia, Germany, etc.). I'm not so sure people will want two different games that cant be played together, unless from a game & network standpoint, they simple change the textures & models to something other than children for those region's releases.
  4. I don't follow. Isn't the use of in-game direct communication, including walkie talkies for long distance, the intended mode of voice communication. BTW, admins can hear everything spoken over that if they are present.
  5. Teamspeak for gameplay purposes is technically cheating (not hacking). But as the previous example, I have encountered situations where it was obvious hacking and even once the people admitted they were on teamspeak. Not afraid of being caught I guess. I've been kicked by admins for killing in military zones, so who knows... maybe the admins sometimes are aware or are participating in it themselves. That aside, I understand a lot of people are using it purely to enhance their fun with friends. Oh well.. I'll just drop the issue, and and accept another unavoidable fate of internet gaming. You guys are probably right.
  6. I didn't mean to prohibit teamspeak from being used on your PC, Mac, etc. What I said was to disallow you from joining the hardcore server if it's detected. Let's be honest here. Even Steam gathers program info on your computer if it's installed through the official Windows install method (ie - Help > Steam Information). One of the only ways for administrators to determine who may be exploiting or scripting outside of video recording programs catching people is the in-game server log. Example: Teamspeak pretty much allows hacker 1 to notify hacker 2 of your exact location, where player 2 tele-ports in behind you, and desyncs themself while you miss every shot in vain after being axed in the head. God, I wish BattlEye did a better job at stopping hacking...
  7. Hello. I'm one of those people who has to deal with the IP server requests crashing my internet. I know the developers have put this on a to do list to be resolved. I'd like to mention a lot of the routers being crashed by this server search behavior are still being sold and manufactured, and are perfectly functional pieces of equipment. I've yet to see a video game list under the recommended requirements, a list of router models, or support of specific routing features to play that particular game. That being said, I'd say that this could be resolved by buying a new router. But... I'm not using a standard modem, and I don't have that option. My questions are more less surrounding the decision of the GUI interface for the server browser. 1. Could the interface be changed to display favorites without first polling them and displaying whether or not they are under a certain ping or even online? In other words, could they be made to be always visible? 2. Could the "Remote" direct address connection tab be completely separated from the internet, favorite, etc. list tabs interface? Because it automatically starts polling for servers, just loading the change server screen can cause the internet crashing behavior. Also, instead of polling for the response and displaying it, could it attempt to directly connect to the input address + port? 3. Could the default behavior for when the last server you played is down for whatever reason be to drop you to the main menu? Instead of jumping straight to the change server interface... BTW - This has helped reduce how often my internet goes down after browsing for servers. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2161-WUHC-8978
  8. Wooden stakes could only go into soft ground. But... I'd say for sake of reducing stress on the game engine, the first trip would break the wire leaving 'maybe' only one or both of the sharpened sticks. In the case of explosives being attached, nothing is left. Also, we could have something like only running or sprinting causes the player to fall forward. Crouch walking, crouch running, and normal walking would not cause you to trip. Additionally, crouch walking (ie - slowest sneaking speed ) would not even trigger the wire. At the very least tripwire, or a simple wire attached to a door, could be connected to a grenade or MON-50 explosive. Not complicated at all. Could even just make it so that wire could be simply be inventory stack attached to grenades or claymore alternatives (maybe increasing inventory size one slot), and these could be attached to very specific points in the environment. Grenades with attached wire would still function normally.
  9. Hi all. I've been playing a bunch recently, and I made some observations about the zeds. Wouldn't it be nice if they didn't have...? 1. Telescopic vision. 2. Psychic ability to see where you ran after leaving their field of vision. Some suggestions could be, and I apologize if this is already on the way... 1. They track the direction (or directional pattern) for a reasonable distance that you were last headed when you left their line of sight. 2. Search patterns. They should search around somewhat randomly (turning all directions) in the area they last tracked you to, or the area they heard a noise from (ie - gunshot), etc. 3. Throwing is still being worked on, especially as far as distance thrown and damage application. Maybe throwing could be used by players holding small items like stones (which should travel further than larger items) to draw zeds closer to the location of another player? Any thoughts?
  10. Hi. Starting about 2 weeks ago, I started getting crashes on failing to join games, and when exiting games that connected successfully. So in an attempt to resolve these crashes, I uninstalled completely DayZ & Steam using Revo Uninstaller to catch any leftover registry entries. I also did a reg scan with CCleaner, and removed any errors relating to Steam and/or DayZ. I again also made sure to delete any residual folders/files left over in the default "program files", "appdata", and "My Documents/DayZ" locations manually. Here is my current issue; While trying to join a game, at the "Wait for host" screen my ping keeps rising to the point of being kicked. My ping shows as 0 to begin like normal, but steadily increases to 400+ ping. It even goes as high as 2000+ on occasion. This has kept me from playing the game in over 10 days now. My OS is Windows 8.1 64bit. My speedtest can be found here = LINK. The last server I tried to join, but got kicked before even finished character loading, I pinged via "http://www.whoisxy.com/" and received these results. BTW - Steam auto-detects Pittsburgh, PA as my closest hub. Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this?

DayZ Won't SA Steam Won't launch

Reboot your PC, and try relaunching DayZ. When it fails to load the main Window, open up the task manager and check to see if it's listed as running. Better yet, download and copy to your system's path (ie - Unless you know how to add your own custom user path, C:\Windows will work) the Process Explorer utility. It can be used as a replacement for the default task manager, but I simply create a shortcut myself. After doing the above of starting the game for the first time, load process explorer by going to your start menu, and in the search bar, typing 'procexp' without the quotes. Turn on the lower pane view with dlls if you wish. Find the DayZ process, and right click open it's properties. The tabs of importance here are... 1. Image Check to see what launch parameters that might be applied during launch. Disable any custom launch options through Steam (right click on game > properties > set launch options) if you find any trailing parameters like -nosplash, -maxMem=*, -cpuCount=*, etc. You shouldn't being modifying the game options if you haven't even launched it with the default settings. 2. TCP/IP Should be obvious. 3. Security Checking for permissions.

DayZ Standalone no Longer works with MSI

Sounds like it may be a timing issue. The game engine may have to be run at the default timings to work properly. Have you tried the official Nvidia tools for your overclocking needs?
  13. Have you checked to see if... 1. Any other device, or program on the same PC, is periodically accessing your internet causing lag spikes? What you described as far as rubber banding is exactly what happens when you are out of sync. 2. Have you de-fragged your hard-drive recently, and or cleaned out the cooling fan for your graphics card & cpu? You might want to run some hardware diagnostics to see if you might have a failing component.

    Super high ping (400+)

Just a quick check back in... I decided to go ahead and re-install Windows entirely to see if that would fix the issue. I wanted to reinstall Win 8 in UEFI mode anyways... Well... IT WORKED. Considering that I used the same backup of DayZ that I had made before I started having problems, I would say the issue lied neither with the DayZ game files themselves nor the Steam cloud synced files relating to the game. Since I'll never know what happened now, I could only purely speculate that it was something relating to Battle-eye, or that my network configuration had gotten screwed up somehow. Anyways, there it is.

    Super high ping (400+)

    1. My firewall has the proper permissions for the games I play. That's how I've played this game in the past without issues. 2. My internet is a 4G LTE cellular modem with very limited router capabilities. It's actually effected by the game's net code DDOS modem crashing issue, so I had to use the Steam caferate method to 'sometimes' avoid that. 3. This issue only effects this game. The game nor battle eye has been updated since I last successfully (normally) played the game. If it is on my end, it's related to this game specifically. That is why I asked here. If this is a bug instead of a standard configuration troubleshooting, it would sure be nice to have a debug mode handy (hint, hint devs). Besides, I even pinged the last tried connecting server manually, and got a normal response. lastMPServer="198.144.183.50:2702";lastMPServerName="Ontario Gaming - Resets once a day!"; FYI - I did try this server connect, and manual ping, with my firewall completely disabled.

    CHECK THE TREES!

Well, the game already has an equilibrium situation in the works to be implemented. Why else would you get the I'm cold/freezing messages. You need a small space to be heated by our bodies emissions, a human designed heater, or campfire to stay warm/warmer overnights. Anyone still out at night hunting other players should be punished with hypothermia unless properly clothed with heavy winter gear. Of course the side effect of this is reduced movement... Anyone with experience in colder environments knows that the more heavily bundled your clothes are, the higher risk for overheating when you start strenuous activities like running. ie - A slow jog at best would be the only practical speed with intermittent rest while heavily dressed on a colder night. Ultimately, I would hope that those camping in the woods (and discovered) would only be potential victims because someone else needed the warmth, but couldn't trust them to invite them in.
  17. Hi. Considering the state of the game, and that most people are on cellphone plans, isn't it time for battleeye and other like anti cheat systems to scan for and kick teamspeak/skype/anyPCbasedComunication type cheating players? Only while playing the game of course... perfectly reasonable and realistic. EDIT; Kinda nullifies the ingame methods of playing, includung walkie talkies... People who attempt to circumvent basic game rules, like the night day cycle, should be auto kicked on offical hive servers.
  18. Hi. Sorry if this has been suggested before, but here goes. 1. Nuke the max sprint with reduce run times and a period of recharge at which point you are reduced to normal run speed). 2. Introduce item weights, and possibly reduce carrying slots by 10-20%. 3. Item weight reduces max movement speed, and turning (slightly) speed. It also allows through prolonged carrying, and running, the ability for your character to move as the game is currently setup (when not carrying over a certain max weight), increasing the importance of that particular character as an investment (less suicide, etc.). 4. Make non-soft cloth equipment like helmets, heavy machine guns, ammo crates/piles, and some clothing create way more noise. 5. Introduction of actions that require two or more people to carry out. Such as erecting the wall of a shack. Why all of these things? Well for several.... no more jack of all trades, and master of them all players having a high grade military sniper, smg, pistol, several case worths of ammo, an axe, several slots of food and water, sticks, medkit, etc... Although doable, you'd have to be way more specialized, and careful if on your own. Benefits would be distribution of equipment over teammates who wouldn't want to bogged/slowed down by carrying everything (Unless you assign a pack mule status to a teammate). More reason to keep the armor light for quick snatch and grabs, or sniper movement. Specialized your team members for a complete package. And stuff... These are my two cents, but feel to free expand on or deconstruct any of this.
  19. I'm sorry for the long delay. I was busy with work.

    Hey... You friendly?

Which begs the question... If no one is truly friendly, how do you ever get cooperation outside of bringing your real life friends? Shouldn't the game foster cooperation for some play styles as much as it does in the opposite (ie - mass killers, bandits)? Or does the game simply not have the components in it's current state to allow this? I'd would not find the only purpose of the game being simply straight up killing other players for gear very entertaining. Or..., just running around trying to collect it the hard way. Maxed out gear, then what?

    Hey... You friendly?

I've been playing this game over 70 hours at this point, and I still consider myself a noob. These are my friendly experiences with the other players, and all countable. 3 fresh spawns who call friendly. I was as well and was a fresh spawn. All other fresh spawns tried to melee me (dozens). 2 accidental encounters with armed people. We both surprised each other, and I'm guessing neither wanted a gunfight as we were just looting. We did have low level arms though (sportser, crossbow, etc...). All other armed people have shot at me - and missed, shot at me - killing me, and lots have specifically shot me in the back . In total I would estimate over a hundred encounters with people shooting at me unprovoked. I've personally shot one person after I tried approaching them with the intent to start conversation but he/she fired first. I've only actually killed 1 person who requested I axe them so they could respawn. At this point, I'm guessing that most people are COD/Battlefield players who treat the game as one large PVP map, or are in-game sociopaths. As I don't know any people in my real life that play, I have yet to experience any cooperative play (even coop banditry).
