What has been your biggest "I'm done" moment?
smochi replied to aquamonkey's topic in General Discussion
1. *Hackers* 2. Kicked by admin in firefights. 4. low fps in cities 5. Zombies slashing through buildings or under floor -
I shake my head too how increasing the settings leverages the workload off the cpu. I get 50-60 fps on very low and 20- 30 on very high. I tested by increasing every settings by small incrementals and that would just lower my fps in cities. Smaa, object detail have the biggest impact on my fps. I dont think my gpu is the problem as it would use only 85%. Same scenario on my desktop wich blazes through my laptop. Anyday, I would pick 60fps on very low over 40 fps high/med for firefights. So i doubt this method works as my fps would plummet by doing this as i have already tried it many times.

I have the GT72 with 980m and 4710hq, and it runs fantastic on dayz. I run without SMAA as the gpu can't handle it and i get huge fps drop as it also strains the cpu alot. I guess the engine does bad job at multithreaidng. The performance should be similair as the Radeon 290. High end laptop also allows few bin cpu overclocking with intel xtu wich helps to overcome low fps in cities. On my 4710hq I overclock it to 3.5ghz wich is +2 bins. the 4860hq allows +4 bins and 49xx +6/+8? I'd say its worth it only to spend money on a gaming laptop with 970m and 980m. The midrage 860m and below is worthless to play any game decently that are slightly graphic intensive. Although my 980m could handle it on very high but some of the settings have a huge impact on the cpu so i rather turn everything off to very low to maximize my fps to 50-60 in cities as its crucial for PVP. Laptop brand/model: MSI GT72 Cpu model:İntel 4710 HQ Gpu model:Nvidia 980m Ram: 16 gb 1600 mhz HDD/SSD: 128GB ssd, 1 TB 7200 rpm Psu (adapter): ? Operating System: win 8.1 pro Render Resolution: 1920 * 1080 Quality Settings: Very High Textures Settings: Very High Video Render Settings: Very High. SMAA/FXAA: Off. Too much strain on cpu and the gpu get bottlenecked to 100% usage. Steam launch options: nothing Dayz config files edits: Default scene complexity= Default prefferedobjectviewdistance=Default. Average FPS at wilds:60-100 Average FPS at cities:40-60

I would swap the GTX 760 for the Radeon 290 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-r9290dc2oc4gd5500W could probably pull it as the i5 doesn't take so much power and the corsair psu is pretty good quality. If you are wondering about your fps. it will be around 30-40 in cities.

Zombies spawn and attack you when you are in the process logging inside cities as it takes some few minutes to load the map. It's crucial as sometimes 2-3 zombies attack you at the same time. Before you know it your dead, Unconscious or low on health and your items are also damaged too. It caused me alot of headaches and flying keyboard against the wall. If zombies would not spawn and attack you during the loading process that would solve the problem. I don't have much time to play most of the time, so i have to log out most of the time in cities and login next day getting my ass kicked by zombies.

Will be quite playable as i had the Q9550 before on low but i was running on gtx 570, but this was on dayz mod. Then i upgraded to 2500k 5ghz and my minimal fps sky rocketed in cities to 50-60fps. U hit 20fps in cities. My gf has 960T with radeon 290x and shes not complaining, The X4 750k should be somewhat better then 960t but i would invest into a better graphic card. If you are on a low budget, try 750TI. Will be abit better around 30 fps and you can also overclock the cpu to get free minimum fps boost.
-
That's because the workload is being distributed among all threads/cores evenly by windows it self. You'll see that the cpu usage will never reach higher then 25%/40% inside the task manager. I would overclock your cpu as you have the K version and you'll see your fps skyrocket.

I would swap the i7 4790k for a i5 4670k and use the 100$ on a better graphic card. I suggest you get the Radeon r9 290 or gtx 970 if you are ready to spend abit more. You won't see any benefit from hyperthreading in dayz so i5 would be sufficient.

Can a Macbook pro run on Dayz Standalone?
smochi replied to Bernie_101's topic in General Discussion
Is this mac book pro with intel hd4000 or iris hd 5100? I've tried dayz on intel hd4000 with i7 laptop and on lowest settings possible, its not playable unless u can enjoy 10-20fps. the new one has hd5100 if were talking about the 13" here, as 15" has i7. I do not recommend as you will get around 20-30fps on the lowest possible settings and will give you alot of headache. Intel hd = nono If you want to run dayz on mac book pro okish get the one with 750M discrete graphic card. -
I have no idea how you can play dayz on 4gb ram as sometimes windows tell me to close dayz because of insufficient memory on 8GB when i have chrome open. The performance is slowing to crawl most likely because its swapping the memory to your harddrive. turned off for me for some reason as default.

I don't think the game is unoptimized. The engine was most likely not coded from the ground up to be multithreaded for 2 or more cores, as it was not a popular practice too to have a heavily multithreaded game developed at that time. Many games around that time would not benefit more then 2 cores. Amd could shine in this game like in bf4 if it could multithread efficiently across all 8 cores to make up for it slow single threaded performance. The new render could offer a salvation to people that are limited by the CPU. I doubt this... because arma 3 suffers from the same problem. went from 4770k to 5820k...

This game relies alot on fast single threaded performance. My fps boosted from 40 to 60 average in cities when i overclocked my 4770k to 4.6ghz from stock speed. But still, it's pretty insane to have such overclocked cpu to get 60fps. I started this game with q9550, the same as BubbaJones. I did had problems in cities. My friend has haswell i5 without oc. and he has around 40-50 fps in cities. Also tested with 6 cores intel 5820k and the performance is even worse then my 4770k "Lower ghz from OC" as i suspect the game is not properly multithreaded but can only use 1-2 cores for the main engine thread.
