I do think it is worth questioning the logic of adding belt fed LMGs. First off the increasing rarity of ammo will make the SAW no more than a larger and heavier M4, if it were possible to acquire belts of 556 the whole loot system would become unbalanced. There's already 4 Nato crash site exclusive weapons adding the FAL and SAW seems to me to be unnecessary variety for such a rare loot point, especially when there's only around 10 different rifles to be found in all the civilian locations on the map.

Black is a hard colour to achieve in real life! It would be impossible to to dye leather a consistent shade of black using the primitive methods in the game, Inconsistent colouring across different items of clothing is realistic and more interesting aesthetically in my opinion.

I play full servers exclusively because I don't enjoy the game if I'm not in constant fear of being shot. I have never got the impression that the 1pp crowd look down on PvP, the only popular 1pp server in Europe right now has a very strong squad play/PvP focus.

This is planned, the vehicle related tools might be usable as soon as the next patch.

As has been said by many people, making all public servers 1pp isn't what Brian was suggesting in the original tweet and making all public servers 1pp isn't what this thread is about. He was talking about making all official servers 1pp which are the servers without owners that server providers are contractually obliged to run alongside the servers people pay for. He posted the tweet you link because lots of people didn't understand the difference between official servers and public servers.

The only reason this is an issue is because at the current stage people generally don't live very long and a significant amount of playtime is spent meeting up before dying and doing it again. If the average life lasted a lot longer then the initial time invested in meeting up wouldn't be so bad.

From my personal experience i found a lot more depth to interactions during the famine of .55, more people wanting to trade rather than risk a gunfight and even when you did get KOSed it was more likely to be for the food than for the fun of it. Once things become more scarce i think that the item damage mechanics will have a big effect on peoples willingness to KOS, if they really need someones supplies they might attempt a holdup rather than spraying them down and ruining all the items. Anecdotal evidence isn't really much to support the claim but I'm pretty certain that making survival harder wont do anything to increase KOS at the very least.

And yea, the seer spake and he said "No Fun Allowed" and thus top banter was banished from the land. It wasn't my intention to persuade or to belittle anyone in this thread, i wanted to see what people thought about the series of tweets Hicks made. What they thought the consequences, if any, of making official servers 1pp only might be, how the new server browser might work and the effect that could have on peoples server choice. What perspective is better is irrelevant to that discussion however when things get Fun i like to have Fun too.

No, i wasn't around in those days and my ancestors never learned the way of the third eye because the spirit father said using the pineal gland while hunting was for casuals. P.S. It's more likely to be a kind of squash or marrow, bananas weren't readily available in that part of the world at that time.

Here's something i found in a Czech cave:

Here's the results of the same poll from reddit if anyone is interested.

Hicks gave us a list of blockers in the last status report, since then Eugene has said that the only one they are still working on is vehicle desync. What more do you want?

Doom 3 does have 3pp, no one plays it because it sucks.

Having all public servers 1pp Isn't what Brian is suggesting though, he is talking about making all official servers 1pp which are the servers without owners that server providers are contractually obliged to run alongside the servers people pay for. The reasoning behind this potential change is that Hicks wants 1pp to be the vanilla DayZ experience, probably because he thinks it is better.

Yes mate, this early access post apocalyptic survival game is totally incomparable with this other early access post apocalyptic survival game that was inspired by it. I'm sure that there is absolutely no cross contamination between these two irreconcilably different player bases and any lessons learned during the development process of one have no relevance whatsoever for the other. Hicks know this well, his absolute refusal to engage with Gary is well warranted as any attempt at information transfer is utterly futile.
-
Which in effect makes 1pp the default gamemode as official servers use default server settings. I don't see this as an issue.
-
This isn't about whether first person perspective is better than third. This isn't an attempt at stopping people who play 3pp from doing so. Its Hicks saying that he wants 1pp to be the default gamemode and 3pp be a server option like accelerated time.
-
Official servers doesn't mean all public servers, only the ones run by BI. What Brian is saying is that he wants the vanilla DayZ experience to be 1pp, which makes sense for the type of game DayZ is. He also said, This implies that the new server browser will be hierarchical, with Official servers most easily accessible which will could change the balance away from (3pp) community owned public servers. The majority wants to play on full servers, perspective really isn't such a make it or break it issue. DayZ is not dissimilar to Rust, there was minimal backlash when 3rd person perspective was removed from Rust and Brian isn't suggesting something that extreme anyway.

Like with the grenades I see the RPG warheads being much more useful used defensively as part of craftable traps for base defense than fired offensively. The optics can fit on an AK too which is pretty cool.

In a status report probably about a year ago Hicks talked about a server setting called 'Hardcore mode' which would allow server owners to change the respawn timer to anything up to a 12 hours wait before respawning after death, I assume that is what they are talking about here.

Nice to see you're still here Vigilante. Your meta discussion videos are still the best around, I hope you'll make some more in that style.

That isn't really true, the creator of the game has always said that he only ever killed one person in DayZ so he obviously didn't initially design it as a PvP (shooting people) game. Yes zombies were an afterthought but the focus was supposed to be survival. One of the best and oldest DayZ mod video series is The Days Ahead, Zombies are most certainly a big factor in that and there's also almost no PvP, only rumors of one rogue group shooting people for weapons. I think there's a lot of people who wish the game was more like these early videos portray it.

Firstly, it's not Russia. It's Chernarus which is a made up country on the edge of the made up Green Sea with a fair bit of made up history, you can't just change the signs and wipe that away. Secondly, we live in a globalized world. In Europe supermarkets can have quite a lot of products (usually western style food or clothing) with the packaging written in English especially in small countries that are unlikely to have there own manufacturing industries for these products. I imagine that most of the items in game have been modeled from real items bought locally in the Czech Republic (on which Chernarus is based), of the non perishable food for example there is four with western packaging and five with Czech. The vaguely alien nature of the map (to westerners) adds a lot to the experience in my opinion, the struggle against nature is paired with the struggle against civilization.

From the First post: So weapons spawning with attachments will probably be in 0.59 stable.

If you read the status report as well as watching the video, you'll see that Brian agrees with you.
